As I sit here writing this I am feeling very saddened for my home state of Victoria in Australia, wildfires are still out of control in many place of the country, so many lives have been lost, properties destroyed and countless acres of land and wildlife lost.

This has reminded me, that my spiritual teacher once told me that natural diasters were the result of negative human emotions and thoughts. Many people would find this hard to believe, but if you look at the work by Dr. Masaro Emoto on the effect our thoughts have on water you will see that there is some truth in it.

Dr. Masaro Emoto has shown that negative thoughts change the structure of water crystals making them misshaped and murky, whereas positive thoughts gives the water great structure and beautiful shapes. To see some of his photos go to http://www.masaru-emoto.net/english/e_ome_home.html

Dr Masaro also speaks about a very polluted Lake Biywa in Japan going from extremely toxic to almost totally unpolluted due to the gathering of people a few times to meditate, pray and send love and appreciation to the water.

Our human bodies are comprised of about 78% water – so your thoughts are having a major affect on your body and your health.

It has been claimed that over 80% of visits to the doctor are stress related and most stress these days comes from our thoughts and emotions.

There are other studies that show that our DNA is also affected by our thoughts and emotions. Positive thoughts have a lengthening and unwinding effect, making proper replication easier. However negative thoughts shorten and compact our DNA which increases our changes of malfunctions and improper replication that can lead to disease and deformity and early aging.

Do we also have an effect on others? Of course, most people are drawn to happy positive people, being around them uplifts us, makes us feel good, and helps us to see the positive side of life. The opposite is true of those negative whinny people, they drain our energy, remind us just how bad the world can be and we leave their company with the weight of the world on our shoulders.

Everyone we come in contact with is affected to a less or greater degree by our energy and mood, as we are by theirs.

On the other side of the coin is the good news. It has been shown that positive emotions such as love and gratitude can build our immune systems, relax our bodies and make us look and feel years younger and of course make us much more fun to be around.

With so much illness, hatred, fear and natural disasters occurring in the our world at present we need an influx of positive uplifting thoughts and people.

Happy new year everyone. On the spur of the moment last night (New Year’s Eve) I had the urge to do a 4 element ceremony for releasing the old year and anything I did not want in my life and bring in the new year and everything I want in to have in my life this year.

I was joined by four generations of my family to do this, which made it really special.

If you would like to do this ceremony, New Year’s eve is a great time, but if you are reading this and the New Year has already started, you can still do this any time you like and you will still get great benefit from it. You can do this by yourself, or in a group. After you have finished you should feel, refreshed, cleansed up-lifted and excited.

If you are doing this in a group, one person is needed to conduct the ceremony – or alternatively you could have one person lead for each element.

You will need

A pen and two pieces of paper for each person

A candle – you can have more than one if you like

A bowl of water

A rock for each person

A bell – one for each person is good, or you can share it ( or you can use anything that makes a light sound. You could use a wind charm, you could even use your own voice to make a high pitched sound if you want to)

A fireproof dish

Begin by having everyone write two lists on two different pieces of paper. The first list is for the things you no longer want in your life. They can be physical things, emotions, personality traits, people, behaviour of yourself or other people, illness etc. These lists are kept private so everyone can feel free get everything written down that you don’t want or is not working for you. A good question to ask is what am I putting up with, that I would rather have different?

Once you have got down everything you don’t want, start on your do want list. I know many people have so much to say about the importance of wording etc with these things, and if you have a way that you think it should be done, then please do it that way. However for me, your intention is more important than the words themselves so if you don’t have a set way for doing these things, just make a simple list and it will do the job.

Give everyone time and space and quietness so they can get everything they want on there list.

Ok now you need to set up your objects. This is best done outside, weather permitting and only if you feel comfortable doing something like this outside, otherwise inside is fine. But if you are inside try to put some pot plants on the table, this will help you to connect to the earth more strongly.

Place all your objects on a table – a round table is great if you are in a group. Place any individual items in front of each person and the rest in the middle of the table – hopefully within easy reach of everyone.

T he following words are just a guide, please change them as you see fit and if you are moved to say something during the ceremony please feel free to express it.

I will write this as if it is New Year’s Eve and you are doing this in a group. Please adjust it according to your circumstances, if you need help doing so send me an email and I’ll see if I can help.

The Ceremony

I would like to welcome everyone here tonight for this ceremony and blessing of the four elements to release the old year and bring in a wonderful new year.

We will start with the element of earth. If everyone will pick up their rock, your rock come from the earth and is your connection here to the earth.

Hold your rock and focus on it for a few moments. ( Have a few moments of silence)

The earth is our source of strength, energy and protection. Feel the earth benefit your feet and start to breathe up the earth energy through your feet. As you breathe in feel the energy from the earth come up through your feet and all the way up to the top of your head. As you breathe out release anything you no longer want in your life, let it go down your body and out of your feet and into the earth. The earth will transform this energy, cleanse it and bring it back to you as positive energy. So spend a few minutes breathing in and out the earth energy. Bring in the positive in on the in breath and let go the negative on the out breath. (After a few minutes get everyone to place their rocks back on the table)

Ok we will move on to the element of water. Will you all please put your hands in the water and you can splash some over you if you want to. Feel the water and connect to it. Water is the element of emotions. Close your eyes and feel a river flowing through you, cleansing you and helping your release any negative emotions. Let the water flow all around you and then out of you. Let the water take with it any hurts, resentments, any anger or fear, guilt, or worry. Anything negative that has happened to you, or you have done in this past year just let the water wash it away. It is in the past now, it is gone, let it go, don’t let it hold you in a negative pattern any longer, just let the water take it and cleanse you, you will feel so much better afterwards. (Have another few minutes of healing silence here)

Fire is the next element. Fire has the power to create and destroy, it has the power to turn one thing into something else. In your solar plexus chakra which is located a few inches above your belly button, you have a tiny flame. Feel this flame now. Let this flame grow bigger. Feel it get bigger and bigger, burning away any negative emotions that might still be left over. Let the fire burn it up and fill you with passion and energy and joy for the great things that will come your way in the new year. Feel excited about the potential for everything you may create this year. (again have another few moments of silence)

Now take this list of things you want to release and burn it in the flame of the candle – you can say something like I ask for the power of fire and the power of the universe to release these things from my life and I give thanks for having them gone. (let everyone, one at a time burn their list in the flame. Please make sure no one burns themselves, get them to drop the burning paper into the fireproof dish when it is nearly burnt)

Now take out the list of things you want, again we will burn these in the fire. This time we will say something like, I send my requests out to the universe with the power of fire, I am so happy and grateful and trusting that everything that comes to me this year is for my highest good and for the highest good of all. (let everyone, one at a time burn their list in the flame. Please make sure no one burns themselves, get them to drop the burning paper into the fireproof dish when it is nearly burnt).

Finally we come to the element of air. Air is every moving, every expanding and seeks to fill everything and is for clarity of thought. Breath air into your heart now, feel you heart feeling with love, joy, gratitude and forgiveness. Spend a few minutes letting your heart feel and expand with unconditional love , feel the energy of your heart going out to surround those with you, your friends and family not with you and then all around the world to everyone and everything. See a pink glow of unconditional love covering everything. Just breathe this energy in and out, spreading love and joy everywhere.

Now pick up your bell and say something like, we ring this bell to celebrate the air element and bless it and ask for its blessing. Let the air bring us love peace and clarity of thought. Let it help us release any negative and doubtful thoughts and bring us good and positive thoughts now and for this New Year.

To finish I thank all the elements for their powers and blessing and may this New Year bring may blessing to everyone here and to the world at large. And I would like to thank all of you for sharing this special time with me

The End

If you have enjoyed this ceremony please share it with friends. And at the moment I am in the process of putting together two very exciting projects. One is a membership site to help people live from a heart centred space, which is a place of joy, beauty, grace and love, with great connection to people and the world around you. The other is an experiment on spreading unconditional love around the world and seeing the effect this will have. If you would like information on either of these, please fill in your name and email in the form at the top right of this page and I will keep you informed as to when both of these are up and running.

But after awhile, familiarity sets in and the newness of love wears down a little and while life my still be better than before you met your love, the feeling of bliss is reduced by the stress and strain and everyday life.

What if there was a way that your bliss could stay. Away for you to feel the warm fuzzy feeling most of the time. It won’t be there always as this is the physical world and challenges do occur from time to time. But for much of the time you can feel wonderful.

This feeling comes when you live from a heart centred space. A heart centre space occurs when you have an open heart chakra. When your heart chakra is open you are naturally in touch with your compassion, forgiveness, gratitude and unconditional love.

Living for a heart centred space also means that you have a deep connection with everyone and everything around you. Most people live a superficial self-centred life, we are each the centre of our own universe and we reality to the world in only one way, we are only concerned with how situations affect us and if we will benefit or loose from a situations and ultimately how any give situations or circumstances will make us feel.

Anything that will make us feel good is pursued and sort after. Where as anything that makes us feel small and low and unaccepted is to be avoided at all costs.

And there in lies the secret of life – life is not about what we have or what we do. Life is about how we feel. That is it, it is that simple. We do things to either feel good or avoid stress, pleasure and pain avoidance are our basic motivators, any beginning level marketing student knows that.

When we are the centre of universe we take everything personally, we are easily insulted by the thoughtlessness of others. If we notice someone frowning we are sure that it has something to do with us – for some reason they don’t like us or what we are doing. We feel judged and misunderstood by the world at large. Everything that happens is “all about me”. And that is the way we live. But it is a painful way to live full of suspicion, doubt and constant fear of what others are thinking about us.

One of my favourite saying is – “whatever anyone else thinks of me is none of my business”. But to be honest with you people are probably thinking about you a lot less than you think they are. Others are so caught up in our own little dramas and worries that they don’t have much time left over to be thinking about you. And honestly if they are how cares? There thoughts are a reflection of themselves not you. We all see the world through our own filters, but that is for another blog.

When we live from a heart centred space we look out at the world, instead of in at ourselves. We can easily see the other person’s point of view and where they are coming from therefore We don’t take everything personally. We feel a deeper connection to our friends, family, neighbours our pets and plants and even our beautiful planet. We come from a place of forgiveness, gratitude, unconditional love and peace. We are in tune with our intuition and inner guidance. We are awake to the magic and mystery of the world around us.

This is a much saner and happier place to come from.

If you would like to learn to live from a heart centred place then sign up for our free ebook on inner peace and you will also get up-dates on this blog and other programs we are setting up. We are in the process of setting up a very exciting membership site, so sign up and we will keep you informed.

Procrastination is a common problem in most people’s lives. The results of procrastinating can be minimal, a mere annoyance or they can be drastic. Little things that we put off can become major tasks. Put off doing the dishes for a week and it will take you a few hours to wash them all. Procrastinating about major things in life is one of the main reasons that you will not fulfil your dreams.

Why we procrastinate

There are many reasons for procrastination. We may feel that the task is mundane and so we always find something more interesting to do. We are all guilty of this type of procrastination. If the task is important to us then our reasons for procrastinating becomes more complex. It is usually because of one or more of the following reasons

* fear of rejection
* fear of failure and/or
* not feeling worthy or deserving.

The price to pay for procrastination

If the task is a mundane one then if you keep procrastinating you may start to feel guilty. You may not accept invitations to go out and enjoy yourself because you know that you really should (for instance) get that painting done today. And yet somehow, even though you have stayed home to do it, you never quite get around to it. Or if you do go out, the task is still there waiting for you when you return.

Your self worth is likely to suffer.

Your stress levels may rise because in the back of your mind you know you have a task to do.

You may be letting others down.

You may have someone who keeps asking or telling you to complete the task.

If it is a larger task, then you will live with unfulfilled dreams and goals. You may find that you begin to dislike yourself because you do not have the courage to go after your dreams. Your life will become average and mundane and you will

always wonder ‘what if’.

To overcome this sort of procrastination you need to do a little soul searching and evaluating of your life. Work on the exercises to develop the Solar Plexus Chakra. This will help you overcome your fears and build on yourself worth. So you will then be ready and willing to follow your dreams.

Getting motivated

So how do you motivate yourself?

Two things are known to motivate humans

1. fear of pain

2. pleasure

So make a list of all the pain you will gain and pleasure you will miss out on by not painting the house (or whatever it is you are putting off). It could be some of the ones mentioned above.

Then make a list of the pleasure you will gain from having achieved your goal. This could be a sense of satisfaction from having completed something; no more guilt; you can go out and enjoy yourself etc. Make the lists as long as it needs to be and really think hard about your pain and pleasure.

The better the list, the easier it will be for you to get on with the job at hand.

If it is a long-term task review your list daily and whenever you need to throughout the day. Also, if it is a long-term task, break it down into small manageable pieces. Write them down on a list and cross them off as you complete them. This helps you keep a track of your progress and helps keep you motivated. Work with the sacral and solar plexus chakras. The sacral chakra will help with the passion and enthusiasm and the solar plexus chakra will help you build your will, your self-worth and overcome your fears.

Of course the other option is - Just Do IT.

If you want to know more about how to use chakras for your own personal development system go to http://www.exaltedliving.com/sevsec.htm I have written a book called Seven Ancient Secrets for a happy life - chakras. You will find out about it at the above website

We are surrounded by nature’s intelligence at all times. Nature is always there to help and guide us, if we will only take a moment to slow down and listen.

Every culture of man used to be in touch with and honour the spirit of nature on which they totally relied for survival. To early man all nature was sacred and everything worked in balance and harmony.

We often look at early man as being naive and think that we are far superior intellectually. And yes we have made many advances in our society, and most of us do not have to interact with nature to provide our food, clothing and shelter. We have removed ourselves from nature and for centuries have believed that the earth is here for us to do with what we like. We look at earth as a big rock spinning in space and believe that man and maybe dolphins and whales are the only animals with any intelligence.

But what has this isolation and separation cost us? We not only lack connection with the earth, our fellow creatures and plants, but most of us these days don’t even know our neighbours or even ourselves. We are hung up on things with no real meaning like wealth and status symbols. Whereas the important things in life are wellness, deep connection with life and those around us, to love and know ourselves and to learn and grow.

Each aspect of nature can teach us something about ourselves, and we can learn valuable life lessons if only we have the eyes to see. A simple example is a tree is tall and strong, however they have to be flexible in strong winds or they will snap. So the lesson from our friends the trees is to be flexible, don’t be rigid with your ideas and opinions, be willing to listen to others and you might find a better way. By standing firm and refusing to budge you will set up resistance and opposition that could bring you down.

Another example can be seen in my video about sunrise and starting a new day you can view it

Nature also has great power to help us relax and unwind, which is why so many people take weekends away to “get away from it all”. We instinctively know that nature can sooth us and bring us back into balance. A city is full of emotion and thoughts of humans, where as nature is silent and in the moment. There are no thoughts; it is just life as it is happening right now. There is no judgment, no criticism no condemnation. Nature simply accepts us for who we are and embraces us with her silent presence.

Next time you need an answer to a question go outside and go for a walk. Ask for nature to show you the answer or something that will help you find the answer. Then go out keep your eyes and ears open, keep your thoughts still and just see what happens.

I said it many times, but it did not seem to help (by the way if you are suffering from insomnia I did find something that did help, to find out about it head over to my chill out spaces blog http://www.chilloutspaces.com/blog ). When I realised it wasn’t working I took a look at why.

The problem was, I have been an insomniac for over 20 years and whenever I said my affirmation, it was overridden by my negative little voice saying things like – “yeah right, you get enough sleep, why are you so tired? If you’re sleeping well, how come you were awake for hours last night?” And things like that – Problem was I just didn’t believe it.

One of the theories behind using affirmations is that the subconscious mind will start to believe anything you tell it repeatedly. And I do believe that is true, however you have to make sure you are not doing what I was doing and that is negating your positive statement with negatives ones, and the negatives ones usually have more emotion and therefore more power.

When we make an affirmation it is to make a positive change in our lives. And so we make them for something we want to have or be. I have found that they work for me as long as I don’t have any hard evidence that goes against them – like 20 years of not sleeping. So affirmations like “I am worthy of all good things” or just “I am worthy” repeated often have worked for me and have changed the way I feel about myself.

When you start using an affirmation like that, to start with you will probably not believe it and you will get strange feelings when saying it, but if you just keep on saying it something in you should change. I usually go for a work and just keep repeating the statement over and over and over. I don’t leave any room for negative statements to occur, and after a while – maybe 100 times maybe more, maybe less, I feel my energy changing and I hear myself saying – “you know what I really am worthy – so what was all that rubbish about not being worthy”.

So think about something you want to change and make a positive statement about it.

It could be something like “I am now my ideal weight” – Now I know for me that that one would not work – to much evidence in the mirror that proves me wrong. But there are several other statements that I could turn into affirmations that would work for me.

They could be –

“Everyday my metabolism is increasing so I easily burn the food I eat”

“Everyday I am getting closer to my ideal weight”

“I am beautiful just as I am”

“I am now growing stronger and fitter and thinner”

Or you could look at other things around weight loss like food and exercise.

Telling yourself you love carrots may not work – or it may. And if you hate exercise you need to start with something to encourage you to actually exercise. So you could say things like

“I know there is an exercise out there that I will enjoy” this will open you up to new possibilities.

Or “I choose to exercise three times a week”

“I choose to eat foods that are healthy and good for me”

Using the word “choose” puts you back in control, and lets you feel in charge. It is empowering and takes some of the pressure off you and there is nothing to rebel against.

If instead you tried something like “I now only eat foods that are healthy” – (which is the way most people will tell you to make affirmations) You may find that every time you stray you set up a fight with yourself, put yourself down and maybe binge to punish yourself.

The most important thing about your affirmations is that they feel good and make you feel good.

When using the words “I choose” sometimes you will make a choice that is against your affirmation, but let that be okay – you can tell yourself that I usually choose foods that are healthy but just for now I am choosing something else. But always make it a conscious choice and again you will be the one in control.

So I quick sum up

Make affirmations in the positive not the negative ie “I eat healthy food” – not “I no longer eat junk food” The problem with making them in the negative is that you are constantly reminding yourself about the things you no longer want and therefore keep them closer to you.

If they don’t feel good, play around with them and break them down until they do ie adding words like I choose – can make a huge difference.

Try out your affirmation for a few days and if it is not making a difference again play around with it, come up with something closer to the solution.

If you want something but you have no idea how to begin you can even start with an affirmation starting with – I know how to ………” this will give your subscious mind instructions to come up with ways that you can do or have what you want – ie “I now know how to earn an extra $1000 a month”

Make your affirmation realistic – that way you will cut down the negative mind chatter about it. This means you might have to break what you want down into chunks. If you want one million dollars but you have only ever had $10,000 in your bank account, you might need to start making affirmations about having $20,000 and building up from there. But everyone is different so you have to usually check in and see what feels good to you.

So give affirmations a whirl and see if you can start creating a better life.

If you have something big you want to do and can’t get over the negative mind chatter or just want some help please feel free to contact me and together we can get you moving forward to what you want. You can send me an email exaltedl (at) hotmail.com – replace the (at) with @ - I do it this way to stop spam

If you haven’t already done so grab your free ebook - “Finding inner peace to promote world peace” just fill in your details at the top left of this page.

How to have a life you love – Step 1

You are the only one who can decide your perfect life. If you are like most of us your life has been anything but prefect and when you look at it you see lots of pain and struggle.

Do you believe that you can have a life that you love? If you don’t believe it then there is little chance that you will ever have a life you dream of. You might make some half hearted attempts to improve your lot. But if you have an under lying believe that you will always struggle and suffer then you won’t have the motivation and drive to take the actions you need to fulfil your dreams.

One day I had a wake up call and I discovered that I was expecting and believing that struggle and stress were all I had to look forward to in life. I had big hopes and dreams but I did not truly believe that I could achieve them. And this muddied my thinking and made it difficult for me to truly know what it was that I wanted

So the first thing I had to do was install a belief that I could have a wonderful. I did this with affirmations. My first affirmation was – “I can have a life I love” I said this over and over and over, to start with it had no conviction what so ever – I was just going through the motions saying. But as I kept saying it I started to rewire my brain and I began to actually believe that it might be true, and as I kept saying it I started to fill more than maybe it could be true, to I total deserve to have a life I love.

So step one is to find out what is lurking in your subconscious –what is it you believe about your life and your future? Does it look bright or bleak?

You might believe you are not good enough, or worthy enough, or smart enough, or have enough money.

Ask yourself what is the one thing that is holding me back from having a life that I love?

Whatever that is make a positive affirmation of it and start saying it hundreds of times, keep saying it until you feel a shift and start to believe it, then say it some more and then some more.

Next time we will start to look at what you really want in life. Cause you have to know what you want before you can have it.

Do you spend your days working towards that “one day when….”? One day when I have enough money I will be happy, One day when I have the house paid off I will be able to relax and enjoy myself more. One day when I get a better job. These may all seem like good destinations and desires. But when we live in this way we are ‘future living’. Waiting to leave the live we have always wanted sometime in the future. Unfortunately the way our brains are wired can mean that we are as soon as we arrive at one destination it doesn’t seem enough, somehow we are just not as satisfied as we thought we would be and we start going after the next goal.

Don’t get me wrong – there is nothing wrong with setting goals and achieving them, but never think that any one goal will be your ultimate destination that will result in your ever lasting happiness and fulfilment. There will always be something more – something bigger, better more powerful, faster etc. that we will desire.

It is not only the big things in life that we ‘future live’. Most people spend there days getting things done so they can move on to the next thing. We always have destination that we have to get to. And we are not doing the task at hand for its own sake but for the end result and so we can move on to something else. When we live in this way everything becomes a chore to be done and gotten out of the way and the whole time we are usually thinking about the next chore on the list.

We keep going on and on like this until one night we wake up in a cold sweat wondering where our life has gone – why we feel so tired, alone and stressed. Was life really meant to be this hard? We ponder. What happened to all the dreams and plans and energy I had when I was a teenager and thought I could conquer the world and right all the wrongs? Somehow it all got lost under a thick blanket of obligation, survival, getting by and striving but never arriving.

So what can you do to bring some joy back into your life? Start enjoying the journey. No matter what you do, do it to the best of your ability with your focus on what you are doing. If you are walking from the house to the car don’t hurry with you mind on something else. Slow down a bit, take a deep breath, look around you and see what is going on out in the world. We spend so much time lost in our heads we become unaware of what is going on around us.

To really start to enjoy your life now – no matter what you are doing, you need to learn to slow your racing mind down and become fully aware of the present moment. When you wash the dishes do for the joy of washing the dishes and not to get the kitchen clean. This may sound impossible and when you first try it your mind will wander all over the place and tell you how boring doing the dishes is. But if you stick with it I promise you, you will find a sense of joy and freedom any like anything you have every known.

To be able to do this properly you need to get control of you mind. The best way to do this is with meditation. I cannot go into meditation practices here but we will talk more about meditation in other blogs or I have written about meditation in both my books ‘Seven Ancient Secrets for a Happy life – chakras’ and ‘Stress Free Mind – spiritual laws for stress relief’. More information on these can be found at www.exaltedliving.com

After you can meditate sitting still try to take the silence and stillness with you and into everything you do.

Do yourself a favour and dedicate today to enjoying the journey.

Silence in the city

Living in a city means to be constantly surrounded by sound, traffic, trains, construction, conversations, stereo systems, television, arguments etc. Even though we learn to tune a lot of it out of our awareness, it is still there simmering away, adding to our stress levels.

The frequency of all this noise is not natural to your system, in fact it is jarring. The sounds of nature on the other hand are mostly soothing and calming. A gentle babbling brook will bring you peace and relaxation, where as the sound of rain on a roof can help you sleep, the crashing waves of the ocean can remind you how powerful you are. People live the cities in droves at weekends to head for the relaxing aspects of the countryside. And it is the sounds and the silence which can help us get to a quieter place inside ourselves.

Sometimes it is not possible to get away from it all and so for your own sanity there needs to be some ways for you to find this silence or nature sounds while still in the city.

One obvious way is through nature soundtracks, though sometimes this can just be an extra noise in an over ready over stimulated environment.

Another way is through the practice of meditation. Meditation will not remove the sounds around you, but it will put you in a peaceful relaxed state that is in harmony with everything going on around you. To me that is the main purpose of meditation, it is not the actual sitting meditating that is important, but learning to bring that state of peace and relaxation and acceptance of life as it is, out into the world long after your days meditation has ceased.

Meditation is a very simple process, but simple does not necessarily mean easy. I always recommend people start very slowly, even 30 secs if they have never meditated before. When you first start your mind will rebel and in my experience if you sit for too long in the beginning you will find it all too frustrating and give up. So be gentle with yourself and start slowly.

All you have to do is become aware of your breath as you breathe in and out, this is a point of focus for your mind, but then just let everything be as it is. If your mind wanders just become aware of that and in the awareness you will be back in the present moment. If you feel pain, or boredom, or frustration, just notice those too and let them all be ok. When you become ok with everything that is happening in your meditation you will become less reactive in your everyday life, things that used to bother you will have no effect at all. You will simply know that they are external experiences and will no longer have the power to pull you away from your peaceful state.

If you haven’t already done so grab your free ebook - “Finding inner peace to promote world peace” just fill in your details at the top left of this page.

In our last blog, we talked about the importance of self-love. We are now going to look at ways to bring more self-love into your life by opening your heart chakra as well as a few simple other methods.

In our last blog, we talked about the importance of self-love. We are now going to look at ways to bring more self-love into your life by opening your heart chakra as well as a few simple other methods.

The heart chakra is located in the centre of your chest and its colors are green or pink. Start by sitting with a straight back, this helps the energy flow up and down your spine (or you can do this lying down). Take in a few deep relaxing breaths and release any tension you are carrying. As you breathe out let go of any stress and just be present in the moment.

On your next breath, as you breathe in feel the air coming out of your body at the centre of your chest, your heart chakra, both front and back and feel an energy field coming out of your body at this area shaped like a cone, with the pointed end in the centre of your chest and the cone radiating out directly in front of you and one behind you. Feel your breath expanding and filling your heart chakra, bring it lots of energy. You may start to feel a tingling in your chest: let the energy of your heart start to radiate out. Put all your focus on enlivening the energy in your heart chakra. If any thoughts come up just let them go and bring your attention back to your heart chakra.

After a few breaths like that start to see or feel the color green or pink (which ever one feels better) feeling these cones. Again place all your focus on the color and the breath. At this stage you should be feeling light and very relaxed. When you have practiced a few times you will naturally start to feel love pouring out your heart. You will come to a place where you feel love for everything around you, including yourself. But don’t try to force this, just keep doing this exercise daily until it happens naturally.

The next step is to start affirmations, on the in breath say “I am loved” and feel the love from the universe pouring into every cell of your body. On the out breath say “I am love” and feel love coming from your body going out to the universe. The first time you do this you may get your inner critic jumping up and down telling you that you are not love or loved, but that’s ok, you don’t have to believe it, just tell it “thanks for sharing” and go back to your affirmations.

Now for the most challenging part, on the in breath say “I love me” and on the out breath say “I love me”. Again your inner critic will have a field day here, it will start to list all the reason that you are not lovable. But we are not talking about conditional love here, we are talking about unconditional love, you are loved simply because you are. You love your children and your pets unconditionally, so can you extend that to yourself. Some people find it easier if they visualise their higher selves as the “I”

Don’t worry if this feels really uncomfortable at first, with practice it will get easier. And with self love all sorts of magic can happen in your life.

This is a great exercise to do first thing in the morning and last thing at night. If you have had a problem with someone during the day you can include them by saying “I love ……” or “I forgive ……” Forgiveness is a very powerful tool that frees you up to let more love into your love. By holding on to hurt and resentment, you just make yourself stressed and unwell, so forgive others simply to make your life better. That doesn’t mean that you have to put up with bad behaviour from others, sometimes you need to distance yourself from people if they are treating you badly. However remember that you create your own reality and the outer world is a reflection of what is going on inside you. So, as you open yourself up to more self love the world will start treating you differently. Some people will change how they behave towards you and those that are not comfortable with your new vibration of love may drop out of your life all together. As this happens you will naturally attract new friends who are also vibrating at a higher level.
