Every once in awhile, my iTunes music skips. It's fine when I'm listening to the music on my iPod, but if I'm just using my computer, it all skips. What's going on?

A:

First of all, you'll want to check and see how much RAM you have on your computer. Depending on how many songs you have in your iTunes library, it is a very memory hungry program. If you don't have enough RAM to support all you're doing on your computer at the time, it's going to start skipping and you won't be able to fully enjoy your music. Now, if you close out every other application you're using along with your iTunes, it might work properly. You can use the task manager to shut down other programs to see if that stops the skipping, but that's not really too convenient for anyone.

When we're listening to our music, we're usually doing something else as well, like playing a game or working on a document. If you're doing something away from your computer and just want the music to keep you company, then this suggestion makes sense, but otherwise, it may not work for you. You may just have to break down and have some more RAM installed on your PC. But, before you do that, let's look at one other option you might be able to take advantage of.

A lot of times, the skipping problem lies within the QuickTime program that you need to have in order for iTunes to work. There are a couple settings you can change in QuickTime to combat the stuttering issue. To do this, make sure your iTunes is shut down and go to Start, Control Panel. Once in there, double click on the QuickTime icon. (You must be in the classic Control Panel view for this to work).

Once in there, use the drop down menu at the very top of the dialogue box and choose Sound Out. This will allow you to work within the sound output elements of your QuickTime.

Now, under the choice that says "Choose a device for playback," use the drop down menu and select "waveOut." You can then just close the QuickTime window. You don't need to press OK or anything, just completely close it out.

Next, restart your iTunes and your skipping problem should be resolved. You can start listening to your music again, while doing your other work as well, without any further problems. Like I said before, you should try this little suggestion before you go out and get more RAM, but if the problem persists, that may be just what you'll have to do. Either way, it's worth it for your music, right?!

Get Clipmarks - The easiest way to email text, images and videos you find on the web.

what is firefox plugin called "ocplugin"? can't uninstall...

clipped from support.mozilla.com

what is firefox plugin called "ocplugin"? can't uninstall...

I found out what this "ocplugin" was: It was installed when I installed the "WebEx productivity tools", which is only removable via Windows add/remove programs. If I uninstalled these webex tools (from Windows), the ocplugin in FireFox does go away (that seems to be the only way to extract it from FireFox).
There may be other tools that use/bundle this plugin/extension, but I don't know if it is the same one mentioned in the link by cor-el or not. But it'd be nice if the "ocplugin" did have a little more info in its "About" page.

I contacted Webex Support to find out how to get rid of the plugin without removing the Productivity Tools. Remove IE Enhanced Security with Server Manager:

Start -> Administrative Tools -> Server Manager

The root node is highlighted, in the right column, under the Security Information heading, click Configure IE ESC

Disable IE ESC for Administrators and/or Users

Chkdsk.exe is actually a command-line application and can be run from the command shell. (Details on using the command line are given at http://commandwindows.com) There are a number of switches that can be used to modify its functions. The syntax of a command is

Chkdsk [volume[[path]filename]]] [/F] [/V] [/R] [/X] [/I] [/C] [/L[:size]]

Table I gives a description of the various terms and switches in the command.

Table I. This corresponds to the two options in the graphical interface discussed above. Note that running with the /R option can be quite lengthy. If there are unusually large numbers of files, the /F option can also take many hours. The /R switch includes the functions of the /F switch.

Get Clipmarks - The easiest way to email text, images and videos you find on the web.

how-to activate SSH in ESXi

clipped from www.vladan.fr

how-to activate SSH in ESXi

 		Print this post

 		Published: 22.09.08 - 07:28 CET | 1 Comment | 9,228 views views |

<INS><INS></INS></INS>

When you firs install ESXi Server (the installable version), by default the service ssh is desactivated. Tech Support
Mode provides a command-line interface that can be used to diagnose and repair ESX Server 3i hosts. So.. I got a nice new Seagate 1 TB drive so I would have some extra space for VMs and a 16 GB Kingston memory stick just in case. My system's got 4 GB of RAM, and while I know that ESX doesn't really support SATA that well – I've done it before and it normally works fine.

First thing after you get your copy of ESXi burnt to a CD/DVD, stick it in and boot up – you'll get something like this: "Unable to find a supported device to write the VMware ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 image to". Strongly reaks of bad support for the motherboard/chipset right?? Google it up and there is plenty of discussion about other losers trying to put an enterprise class virtual solution on to their desktop PC lol. There are several rather convoluted ways to get around the bad support in this version of ESXi for SATA (specifically for the onboard stuff on the Dell Optiplex 745) – mainly involving installing or even booting it from a USB key. A good resource for determining the level of support is going here – it lists the models, controllers, motherboards and how many other geeks have tried successfully or unsuccessfully to get it up and going. I used a combination of methods that I think will satisfy someone that JUST WANTS TO GET THE DAMN THING WORKING (QUICKLY).

Things you will need:

- Dell Optiplex 745
- VMware ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 ISO image
- USB stick with > 300 MB free
- HD with Windows, Linux or a Linux live CD for tinkering with stuff
- the SATA HD you want to install ESX on
- unopened bottle of kentuck straight bourbon

Making the USB bootable installer:
(follow this guide to putting syslinux on to make it bootable or read the coles notes below)

- format your USB stick as FAT32
- download syslinux here: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/
- uncompress syslinux somewhere
- On Windows run: $syslinuxdirectory$\win32\syslinux.exe -m -a Driveletter: (make sure you put the right one in…)
- On Linux run: syslinux /dev/sdX (sdX being your stick)
- You are now ready for the next step

Getting the ESXi Installer Ready:

- use Winrar or whatever app you want to uncompress the VMware ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 ISO
- copy all of the files from the ISO on to your USB stick that you are working with
- rename the file isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg
- Download the following replacement for oem.tgz – the original post is here
- Replace the oem.tgz with the new copy that will recognize your board

Installing ESXi:

- plug the HD you want into install ESXi on to SATA 4. 745's have 0, 1, 4 and 5 on the board (tested with 0 and 1 and does not work…)
- plug your USB key in
- boot with F12 and select your USB device
- You should now be able to install ESXi on to the drive you want
- It will prompt you to reboot

Crossroads:

When you boot up with your SATA 4 disk you will get a panic message stating it can't find the boot HD…. !

The long and shorts of this is that if you look at the ISO inside install.tgz under \usr\lib\vmware\installer, you will see a file called
VMware-VMvisor-big-3.5.0_Update_3-123629.i386.dd.bz2 or something like that. This is what is installed on the actual machine and it contains another oem.tgz that is dropped onto the system during installation. So while the installer works, the not-so-good version of this file is what gets installed and is what causes it not to recognize your SATA drive on boot. Nice!! You can verify this by using WinImage or any Linux utility that will look at disk images (dd files) and checking the Hypervisor1 partition.

Here is where you reach a crossroads… If you've googled and got a bit stumped or gone down the rabbit hole than I can relate to you. There are several options:

1. Uncompressing the iso, install.tgz and then the VMVisor bz2 and replace the oem.tgz – then pack it all back up neat and tidy in the install.tgz and replace it
2. Boot ESX off a USB key using this article since it will all be in memory anyhow and the VMs will be on your SATA drive.
3. Give up and then drink some bourbon and forget about wasting your life doing geeky shit like installing ESXi on a crappy desktop
4. Follow the next easy easy step and then keep rolling

My next step:

- Shake off the frustration and have a drink, no problems here
- Boot up your Windows HD, Linux HD or Linux live CD (or plop that ESX drive into a system running any OS)
- Mount the ESX drive
- Drop the modified oem.tgz into the Hypervisor1 partition (overwriting what is there)
- Boot up your ESX box on your Optiplex 745

This skips all the mucking around with the installation, saves booting the server from USB, it saves trying to SSH into the ESX server to do it – skips all the headaches that you could go through when all you need to do is replace a simple file and it can even be done in Windows explorer. I'm sure it wasn't that simple for the first person who created the new sample.map but thats neither here nor there.

<div style="margin: 14px 0px; So what to do next? I’m used to “apt-get install”. But this is a .bundle file, so no apt-get for this application. Well the answer was really simple just run the bundle file:

sudo sh VMware-Workstation-6.5.0-118166.i386.bundle

for vmware player do the following:

sudo sh VMware-Player-2.5.1-126130.i386.bundle

belkin f5d7010 wpa2 ?? use: Ralink RT2500

clipped from www.ocforums.com

I did what "the adam" suggested and it worked for me (I'm posting this from my Belkin F5D7010 v3000 using WPA2). Here's what I did:

I installed the regular Belkin drivers for the revision of my card.

In the C:\Program Files\Belkin 802.11g Wireless Card Configuration Utility\Driver directory, there was a Rt2500.inf file. I saved a copy of this file away for safe keeping (and later comparison), and I also saved away these lines from the file:

[Belkin]
; DisplayName Section DeviceID
; ----------- ------- --------
%Belkin.DeviceDesc% = BELKIN.ndi, PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0201&SUBSYS_701A1799
%Belkin.DeviceDesc% = BELKIN.ndi, PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0201&SUBSYS_700A1799

I uninstalled the Belkin drivers.

I installed the Ralink RT2500 drivers (from their web site).

I edited this INF file: C:\Program Files\RALINK\RT6x Wireless LAN Card\Driver\Rt2500.INF. What I did was paste in the special lines above (with the DeviceIDs), then I searched for "CNet" in the file and duplicated those lines, making similar lines with "Belkin" instead of "CNet".

In the end, I ended up with the file attached to this post. (Rename it to Rt2500.INF and replace the existing file in the Driver directory mentioned above)

I inserted the PC Card and when Windows prompted, I pointed it toward the edited INF file (using the Have Disk button), then I eventually selected the Belkin configuration that I just created.

Thanks and good luck.

Get Clipmarks - The easiest way to email text, images and videos you find on the web.

iphone 3gs vs omnia hd

Apple iPhone 3G S 32GB Vs. Samsung i8910 HD

<iframe id='omio_phones_comparison_widget' src='http://widgets.omio.com/widget/compare-phones/apple_iphone-3g-s-32gb%2Bsamsung_i8910-hd' border: '0' frameBorder='0' width='450' height='1900'>

Automatic updates are usually a good thing but there is a serious problem with it.

Sometimes updates need to restart the computer to finish the installation. Until SP2 Automatic Updates would not restart your computer automatically. But this is not the case with SP2.

Once you scheduled Automatic Updates to be installed (by default at 03:00 AM), if the update requires restart Windows will notify you that it needs to restart. If you are not logged in and do not restart within 5 minutes, Windows will automatically restart your computer.

This behavior can cause a lot of problems. Documents you left open and did not save will be lost, downloads you started that have not finished will be terminated, and even hard disk maintenance like defrag that is working will get terminated, which might cause lost of data.

Unfortunately Windows XP Home users can not do much to change this behavior, except saving all the data before going to sleep or disabling the automatic updates.

On the other hand Windows XP Pro users can tell Windows never to restart the computer automatically. In order to do that follow these steps.

In the Start Menu go to Run type "gpedit.msc" and press Enter

Now a Group Policy editor will open. In this window navigate to: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Template -> Windows Components -> Windows Update

Double click on No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installations

In the settings window Choose Enabled and click OK

Close Group Policy Editor

The next time Windows updates your system it will not restart the computer automatically, but will notify you that restart is needed in order to finish the installation.

<INS datetime="2006-08-21T15:55:41+00:00">Update</INS>
Home users can try the following:

Go to registry editor and navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Policies \Microsoft\Windows \WindowsUpdate\AU

Change the "NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers" DWord value to the required number.

0 = False (Allow auto-reboot)
1 = True (Disallow auto-reboot)

<div style="margin: 14px 0px;
