done today. It was INTERESTING. I have heard from different people in the
company on how Leave a Nest developed and became such a multi-dimension
company. However, in today’s seminar the whole map of the development path was
finally pieced together like a complete jiz saw puzzle. The actual people who
started the respective project spoke on their experiences and I realized that
these people were actually in the same shoes that I am in-as I am starting-up
the Singapore version of Leave a Nest. It was not easy work and only with perseverance
would success come. I felt a little relieved coz’ I am not totally alone on
this and that I am actually working with very very capable partners/friends. We
would make Leave a Nest Singapore just as successful.

The second part of the training program is
on actual business talks and negotiation. New staffs are paired with more
experienced staffs to ‘sell’ their ‘product’ to other industries. This is actually
a role-playing and training session: The industrial people are actually our own
staff and the pair (new staff taking the lead) is to convince the industrial
people that our products are good in their own style and words. To elaborate
further on this training, the pair actually meets the client in other room and
the whole process is showed live in the other room. This is really a good
learning experience on how we could present ourselves to our customers, what
are our (Leave a Nest) strengths and weaknesses also became obvious during this
session.

Looking forward to the next sharing
session!

have to shelf the Miso workshop for the time being. We tried to get ‘Big

that the Science centre took up our proposal for the Singapore Science Festival

workshop in Singapore. This project would be our debut and with our entrance,
we look forward to integrate into the Singapore education scene and make a

Nevertheless, why do we still do sports? Basically, sports are fun and it keeps one healthy. Sports can also be means of social interaction. Many people also do sports for a living and these people are the professionals who participate in competitions at different levels. The more they win the more they earn. Beside the ‘winning’ element, most of the professionals do it out of passion of the particular sport/s.

Professionals, in particular (I think), understand the risks of the sport/s they are involved and more often than not, it’s their willingness to undertake risks that brings them new records/breakthroughs. Japanese figure skater, Daisuke Takahashi, is one such person. In 2008/09, an injury (torn ligament in his right knee) caused him to miss all seasons in 2009. He went through a tormenting ordeal (surgery, therapy and re-training after recovery) and secured a bronze and gold during 2010 Winter Olympics and World Figure Skating Championship, respectively. His tale is inspiring to me and many others. However, it was only recently that I felt I needed his kind of spirit in pursuing my dreams.

Many of the projects I am handling in Leave a Nest are new areas where there are little or no prior experiences which I could tapped from. For example, while we have been running workshops in Japan, we have no experiences with the Singapore market. In any case, I think with perseverance and by tackling each problem fearlessly we would eventfully see light at the end of the tunnel. And, even if I fall and get injured, I would just need to pick myself up quickly and continue to brave through the darkness.

Btw, i only found out recently that William Smith Clark is a plant scientist

My 6th CNY eve in Japan. Back in Singapore, i would already be home this time of the day getting ready for the reunion dinner with my family. After the dinner, we would watch TV together and around midnight we would most probably be heading downtown to the Kuan Yin temple for the first prayers. In Japan, this day would be just another ordinary day. We work today, we work on CNY day and noone in the company would probably mention about CNY. However , something special happened today.

I had a meeting with a professor whom taught me 13yrs ago. 13yrs back, I was studying in Singapore polytechnic and during the course, I had an internship at Tsukuba Plant medical research station for 2 months. For a long time, i had lost contact with the Professor and it was only recently, I chanced upon his name during a conversation with my colleagues. One of my colleagues was also his ex-student and she had kindly help arranged the meeting today.

Today, our reunion meeting was short (2h). Nevertheless, we would be collaborating on a project regarding product development for Pandan leaves (a common plant use for food in Asia). Be it success or failure, this project would (I believe) would meant alot to both of us at different levels.

Wish us luck and Happy Lunar New Year!!

This Professor's name is Shinomura.
