Users can download it from their respective app stores. From what we can see, there weren't many major changes to the app itself, so you should still get about the same experience on your Kindle Fire or Nook device. The WordPress team announced this via a blog post, and they seem quite excited about the release.

Have any Kindle Fire or Nook users out there downloaded the WordPress app? What are your thoughts? Sound off in the comments!

Whether a kid carries Windows Phone 7, an iPhone, or an Android, the cut of their jib is measured by the strut of their phone. This of course brings into question all sorts of concerns for parents, given the amount of information and communication available with these devices. Symantec, known for their Norton computer security software, would like to appease both parties with its Norton Safety Minder product.

Norton Safety Minder is an application that parents can install on their child's smartphone that allows the parents to monitor and, if needed, block the activities on the phone. Parents can also adjust the criteria of what exactly will be monitored or prohibited based on the needs of their child, which includes text and MMS messages, web use, and even which apps are downloaded. Now it's worth mentioning that the app itself is free, but this is a service (like all of Norton products) and that only the web use monitoring and screening is free with this service. To use the rest of the features of the app and service, there's a yearly fee of $49.99, though they're currently running a special of $29.99 for a year of service.

As a parent, I can definitely see the merits of Norton Safety Minder, and were my kids older and carrying smartphones, it's something I would definitely consider, based on their behavior. As stated previously, Norton Safety Minder is available for free in the Android Market. Click the Market link below to check it out for yourself and read on for the official presser.

Is this something that you would consider for your own kids? Let us know in the comments! The full press release can also be found below.

There is no doubt that Android will continue to grow, with over 700,000 activations a day. But mobile technology is not where Google is stopping, and Android is growing and will be used in a plethora of devices. From cellphones and tablets to appliances and automobiles, Android is spreading its wings wherever it can. It seems that Samsung is taking off on a new adventure, with the possibility of manufacturing an Android-based camera.

Samsung has just filed a trademark for a "Samsung Galaxy Camera," with the USPTO. This leads us to believe that the Korean manufacturer may be thinking of releasing an Android camera in the near future. As usual with Trademark filings, though, this may never happen. But the idea of it can be enticing.

We saw Polaroid's SC1630 at CES. It's essentially a camera that runs Android and has phone capabilities. This device was not very enticing, mostly due to its lackluster specs. But Polaroid mentioned that this was just a placeholder, and the final product will be much better.

If a company can hit the right spot for photographers, this could be a great trend for picture lovers. Imagine a camera with the flexibility that Android offers. We could pick whichever camera app we prefer, as well as editing and social network apps for sharing. It would definitely bring a whole new meaning to "smart photography." And if we can take Google's mobile OS to the next level, we could even see Android DSLR cameras. But, great hardware requires great software to create a better experience.

As already mentioned, we don't know if this is something Samsung will follow through with. We've seen companies file for trademarks they never use, but that won't keep us from dreaming. We surely hope Samsung can pull this one off.

So what features do you think Android possesses that would make an amazing camera experience? Let us know by leaving a comment!

AT&T wants you to know that they do not have any plans in place to throttle data users once they cross a 2GB threshold. Speaking in an phone interview with the New York Times, AT&T's Mark Siegel advises that only the heaviest of users are crossing that mark and those are the "top 5 percent" types who may see a slowdown in speed. What's more, he advises that even if you do happen to get that high and find yourself among the data hogs, chances are "very good" that you would not be slowed. As Sigel indicates, only 1 percent of the users on their network were impacted by the plan change.

You may recall hearing earlier this week that AT&T had been sending out notifications to their subscribers for data consumption that barely exceeded 2GB. We, like many of you, found it hard to believe that only it only took 2GB to put someone in the top 5 percentile. In an age of grandfathered unlimited plans and HD video streaming services, it surprises us to hear that it's not somewhere in the tens of gigabytes per month.

It's worth pointing out that AT&T will only throttle you (or threaten) if you are on an unlimited plan. Those of you with bucket plans have nothing to worry about - you can go about your business, consuming more data than those on the grandfathered rate, without worry.

Verizon just dropped us a line to advise that both models of the Droid Xyboard tablets will be getting software update. Once downloaded and installed, this update will enhance browser performance, touch response and get them ready for global roaming. Yep, that means you will be able take your Droid Xyboard with you to more than 200 countries.

More specifically, the global roaming feature will be integrated over a two step process. This first update will add the global support to the hardware whereas the other half comes from an over the air update pushed to the SIM card. Look for the second, software update to roll out within two weeks of receiving the hardware update.

Customers who have signed up for e-mail alerts will receive an email notification after the second update alerting them that the tablet is Global Ready. Before traveling outside the United States, customer will need to power on the tablet and establish a data connection on the Verizon Wireless network for 15 minutes to ensure the update takes effect and also enroll in a Global Data Plan that fits their travel needs at www.verizonwireless.com/global.

Here we go again! Google is rumored once more to be getting into the hardware business. A new Wall Street Journal report tells us that Google has been working on a consumer electronics device with a home music streaming system set to debut later in the year. According to their source, Google plans to market the system under their own brand. Sounds like this is more confirmation of those rumored entertainment devices that broke early in the week.

It is being said that the Android team has been working on the music streaming system for several years now and that it will likely take on Apple's Airplay, Sonos, and Logitech's Squeezebox. It's not hard to envision the finished product being all that different from the Project Tungsten stuff demo'd at last year's Google IO. As to what the device is being called remains to be seen; AndroidAndMe is hearing that it could be called Android Hub.

Wonder if the Motorola merger has anything to do with the forthcoming product.

More on this as we can gather it!

A second Google Wallet vulnerability has been found today, hot on the heels of the previous reports of a PIN number exploit. Initially thought to only be a flaw in rooted phones, this new vulernability affects and and all users running Google Wallet.

According to TheSmartphoneChamp it is very easy to get around the PIN number from the NFC payment application. It's as simple as clearing the data under application settings. Let's pretend you just lost your phone for a moment, shall we? Upon opening the app afterward, the user is asked to enter a new PIN. Once a new PIN has been created the bad guy can add a Google Prepaid Card tied to the handset and then potentially access available funds. In other words, it's like as if someone had found your real wallet and was then using the money or cards to pay for things.

Google was already aware of the initial problem but we get the feeling they will be issuing an update in short order. Even though it affects a limited number of users, it's scary to think how easy it is to get around at this time.

User your noodle, boys and girls. If you don't have a password-protected home screen or PIN number keeping you safe then you'll want to add a layer of security to your apps.

HTC, in a Facebook post from today, has outlined new details as they pertain to Android 4.0 and some of their smartphones. The handset maker has officially added three new models to the list of phones expected to see Ice Cream Sandwich. Those of you who own the HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD will be pleased to learn that Android 4.0 is coming your way "later this year".

In addition, we can confirm Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades will be coming later this year to the HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. Stay tuned for more updates on Ice Cream Sandwich releases in the coming weeks.

Additionally, HTC has given more specific time frames for some of the already-promised models. Look for the Sensation, Sensation 4G, and Sensation XE to receive Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of March, followed "soon there after" by the Sensation XL.

A new post on the Wall Street Journal advises that Google is getting much closer to announcing their cloud-based storage drive. Expected to be called Google Drive, it's the rumored personal G Cloud that we've been expecting for more a rather long time. Citing sources familiar with the matter, Drive would allow users to share documents, images, photos, and other files much in the way Dropbox, Box.net, Amazon, and other like-minded services.

It is assumed that Google will offer all users a set amount of free storage, possibly in the realm of 5GB or 10GB. One thing we'll be interested to see is what level of integration Google Drive has with Android and other applications. Will it be tied directly into Gmail, Docs, Google+, or even with Android at a base level or will it just be another option for sync and share.

As to when we might see Google Drive rolled out, the clearest we have is weeks or months. If it is the latter then this would make a prime service to announce at this year's Google IO, which takes place in late June.

UPDATE: One of our readers, Nick, sent the following screenshot. All he did was poke around in the source code in Google Docs to find that there is a button hidden for adding to My Drive.

Coming straight outta Compton!!! Oh wait that's a different story. Let's change that to Big Bear Lake in California where FarSight Studios calls home. These guys have been making games since 1989, winners of several awards over the past 23 years. They've created games for every major console including the original NES, and continue in today's world of the PS3, XBOX360 and Wii.

The Pinball Arcade is the most accurate and realistic pinball videogame ever created. Building on FarSight's critically acclaimed pinball franchise, The Pinball Arcade features licensed pinball tables from Bally®, Williams®, Gottlieb® and Stern®, and includes the most popular historical and modern tables of all time. Four tables will be available at launch: Tales of the Arabian Nights®, Ripley's Believe It or Not®, Theatre of Magic®, and Black Hole™.

Each month two new pinball tables will be added to the lineup and players will be able to sample free versions of each release (including the launch tables). Paid versions of each table will be available individually or in "themed" packs which will be released over the next several years as downloadable content. "With the licenses we're acquiring, we'll be able to re-create nearly all of the highest-ranked tables in pinball history. Our goal is to make The Pinball Arcade the definitive pinball game franchise of all time!" said Bobby King, FarSight's Director of Development and Lead Designer of The Pinball Arcade. "We are building an online community of virtual pinball players using shared leaderboards, friends leaderboards, and coming later this year, head-to-head online play modes and cross platform tournaments. All tables are recreated and played in stunning 3D, presented as photo-realistically as possible, and played on the most advanced pinball physics engine ever developed. The gameplay, visuals and sound effects are all authentic."

I thought that was pretty neat, release 2 new tables each month to keep the monotony at a minimum. Looks like they have some cool ideas and plan to launch this on several platforms, in what appears to be an all-or-nothing idea. In March 2012 they will release this for the XBOX 360, PS3, Macintosh & Playstation VITA. This video below might bring back some old memories...

A senior engineer of zvelo has found that Google Wallet has a "significant security vulnerability" which could reveal users' PIN numbers. Sharing the findings on their blog and posting a demo video for the world to see, zvelo indicates that Google has already been notified of the situation. While this might sound like a terribly scary situation and a blow to Google's NFC initiative, it's worth pointing out that this affects Android handsets which have been rooted. Also, bear in mind that Google Wallet is not widely available yet as it's technically only offered on one phone on one carrier.

As mentioned above, Google is already aware of the situation and is said to be working on a fix for the bug. In the meanwhile, zvelo offers up a number of precautions that one can take to ensure security.

The zvelo study was conducted on their own phone on which they disabled the security mechanisms that protect Google Wallet by rooting the device. To date, there is no known vulnerability that enables someone to take a consumer phone and gain root access while preserving any Wallet information such as the PIN.

We strongly encourage people to not install Google Wallet on rooted devices and to always set up a screen lock as an additional layer of security for their phone. - Google

What Wallet Users Can Do Today
There are some steps that Google Wallet users can take today to help mitigate the risk of this vulnerability.

Do Not “Root” the Cell Phone – Doing so will be one less step for a thief.

Enable Lock Screens – “Face Unlock,” “Pattern,” “PIN” and “Password” all increase physical security to the device. “Slide,” however, does not.

Disable USB Debugging – When enabled, the data on mobile devices can be accessed without first passing a lock screen challenge unless Full Disk Encryption is also enabled.

Enable Full Disk Encryption – This will prevent even USB Debugging from bypassing the lock screen.

Maintain Device Up-To-Date – Ensure the device is current with the latest official software. Unfortunately, users are largely at the behest of their carrier and cell phone manufacturer for this. Using only official software and keeping devices up-to-date is the best way to minimize vulnerabilities and increase security overall.

NVIDIA has shot out invitations to their upcoming Mobile World Congress announcement, promising access to the latest quad-core innovations. Since we've already seen the quad-core Tegra 3 in the Transformer Prime, it's a pretty safe bet that we'll getting a look at smartphones using the chipset. Not like we're surprised really, there are plenty of rumored quad-core handsets on the horizon, most of them expected at MWC. Also, the invitation has a guy playing with a phone...on a roller coaster. We'll be following the news closely and will be only too happy to share the news with you guys and gals.

There was the Galaxy S III, and more recently the Galaxy S II Plus, neither of which were confirmed. Well, we finally got our hands on some official news from Samsung, but it's not revealing much. All that we know at this point is that Sammy won't be holding any kind of big press event at MWC, which tells us that they may be up to something that they'll throw a bunch of marketing into somewhere down the road. Of course, Samsung will still be at MWC, at least to our knowledge, to show off some "exciting new mobile products."

This could mean that either Samsung is planning something big for MWC, and is keeping it under wraps, or that they're putting more effort into something for after the event in Barcelona. In any case, only time will tell. More on this as it develops.

So what do you think Samsung could be planning? A new tablet? Something for Google TV? Sound off in the comments!

Symantec, widely known for their Norton antivirus software, has just released a blog post that caught our attention, and it might even worry you as well. Apparently, Symantec has discovered a botnet that's aimed at Chinese users on two specific networks (although the names of said networks weren't mentioned). You can take a look at the extensive post by Symantec, but essentially, it's bundled into a normal application, one that's not on the Android Market as we suspect that Google would catch something like this.

Basically, once the application is installed, a clean version of the software, along with a "malicious application," are installed. The latter, Android.Bmaster, then triggers a connection between the infected phone and a remote server, where the initial application downloads an APK. This APK, a Remote Administration Tool (RAT), begins running, which allows the server to issue commands to the device itself. The malware can then send user data to the server, including IMEI numbers, IMSI numbers, Cell IDs, area codes where the phone was pinged recently, and mobile network codes.

According to Symantec, this vicious malware has been available since September of 2011, and the infected devices appear to be in the hundreds of thousands. Not only that, it's also somehow gaining revenue from each device. Android.Bmaster is generating $1,600 to $9,000 per day, and if those numbers continue, it could earn over $547,000 per year. There's no clear path as to what Symantec (or the Chinese carriers whose devices are infected) plan to do about this malware, but we'll keep you posted if any new information comes in.

So is anyone surprised by this malware? Do you think more should be done to protect Android users from such attacks? Let us know by leaving a comment!

They plan to also use the Tabs at the U.S. Airways Center, to show fans the different seating arrangements around the stadium, which will help they better choose a ticket to buy. But Phoenix isn't done there, as they plan to use the tablets to connect more with the Suns' fans through social media during games, press events, and more.

In addition to all this, head coach Alvin Gentry and his staff will make the Galaxy Tabs an important part of the team's preparation, both on and off the court. Each player will receive their very own Galaxy Tab, and every one of them will be preloaded with the Phoenix playbook, team videos from practices and games, travel itineraries for all trips, and scouting reports for upcoming opponents.

Phoenix's President, Brad Casper, had this to say:

Our organization has always placed a priority on remaining at the forefront of digital innovation within the sports industry. Utilizing the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network to integrate the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 into our daily operations is yet another great digital milestone for the Suns.

Alvin Gentry said that today's announcement "marks the beginning of a new era in the NBA, where I think teams throughout the league will want to integrate a tablet into their operations."

So, do you think other teams will follow suit and adopt a tablet for their organization? If so, what tablet would you tell your favorite team to use? Let us know in the comments! The full press release can be found below.

Of the myriad benefits to going Android, one in particular affects every user: the choice of hardware. Unlike with Apple devices, Android users have a wide range of different styles and form factors to choose from to fit their individual needs. Android's open nature in this respect also allows it to be the chosen software for hardware makers who like to break the mold, which is what he UK's Kieron-Scott Woodhouse has done. He's crafted the ADzero, a beautiful Android phone, using bamboo as the housing, rather than the traditional plastic or metal. Before you get worried about how that would hold up in daily use, the 4-year old bamboo has been treated to ensure durability. While one would assume that this would mean protection against water, it isn't mentioned.

Woodhouse plans to have the phones across the UK and Europe by the second half of the year. Beyond the obvious housing difference, the phone also features a new type of ring flash, wherein the camera is surrounded by a ring that happens to be the flash itself. According to Woodhouse, this should provide even lighting and less dramatic shadows when using the flash.

He originally was targeting the Chinese market, where bamboo is plentiful, but his concept caught a lot of attention at the London Design Week last year. There's no word on if or when any UK carriers have picked up the AdZero, but we'll most likely hear about it pretty quickly if it happens.

So what do you think? Pointless gimmick or elegant beauty? Personally, I love the balance of mixing tech and nature, but be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

LG has begun teasing the internet with their next big smartphone, posting a short and mysterious video online. When we say big, we mean Galaxy Note and Dell Streak big. According to the details, this new LG Optimus Vu is a 5-inch Android smartphone with a rather unorthodox 4:3 aspect ratio.

Additional hardware rumors suggest that the handset is not just massive, but it's also as powerful as anything on the market. Specs include a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, an 8-megapixel camera, and NFC support. Expected to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the Optimus Vu's screen is said to be a 1024x768 IPS display. Considering the four buttons across the bottom and the aspect ratio, we're not only betting on the 2.3, but we're also extremely intrigued.

There is no indication as to when we might see the Optimus Vu but you can bet we'll be paying extra attention at Mobile World Congress. Check out some of the images we pulled from the YouTube video below. We've brightened them up quite a bit in order to get a better look at the handset.

Microsoft OneNote is part of the Office suite many professionals use on a daily basis. OneNote lets you create, store and share ideas or information in a single, easy-to-access location. According to the OneNote blog, it seems as though you fellow Android users have been begging to use this on your phones and tablets. Now you can while on the go from any of your Android devices.

Assuming you are already using OneNote, you'll have full access to all that information wherever you are. Using your free Microsoft Skydrive account you can sync your "notes" to the cloud and easily share them with anyone.

There is a caveat in all this "free" stuff from Microsoft.. Would you expect anything else? They are going to let you have up to 500 notes on your Android mobile application for free. After the 500 are used up, you will need to fork over a one time $4.99 to unlock the application for unlimited use. They claim you will not be able to edit or create anything past the 500 notes without upgrading, but will allow you to view, sync and delete them.

Find the application in the Android Market at the link below.

From social networks to banks accounts, smartphones carry our most private and delicate information. For this very reason, security is one of the hottest topics in the Android ecosystem, andthe newest threat reported is marking the beginning of a new malicious era - mutating Trojans.

There are different opinions regarding mobile security. Some believe that it is not a significant issue, including a Google employee that went as far as to call mobile anti-virus companies "charlatans and scammers" that play with your fears for profit. Google has recently announced Bouncer, which has lowered malicious app downloads by 40%.

There is also those who believe it is not very relevant right now, but might feel differently in the near future. Hackers and virus programmers focus on market share. They target the OS that has the most users, hence the fact that most viruses developed are aimed towards Windows computers. Android is growing rapidly, and it is the most popular mobile operating system in the world (comScore reports almost 50% market share in the U.S.). Undoubtedly, security will become a bigger issue in the future.

The newest member to the Trojan family has just been reported by Symantec. It is called Android.Opfake, and it mutates every time it gets downloaded. This allows for the Trojan to bypass anti-virus detection, and according to Symantec, all of them are distributed by Russian websites. Vikram Thakur from Symantec had this to say:

As with malware that affects traditional computing devices, the level of sophistication of the polymorphism used can affect how easy or difficult the threat is to detect. More complicated polymorphism requires more intelligent countermeasures.

This Trojan is not as advanced yet, as only certain parts of the app are modified every time it gets downloaded (server side polymorphism). But future threats could be designed around local polymorphism, which would modify the app's very code every time it gets executed.

It would be harder to for any anti-virus app to detect it, and such companies would need to exercise more complicated processes in order to stop them. After attending a presentation from avast! Free Mobile Security, I learned that their app works differently, compared to many other security applications. Their system is not a simple black-list. Rather, it actually looks at the coding within the analyzed applications. Such practices could be a better option for the future of morphing Trojans. Here's some sound advice from Tim Armstrong, a malware researcher at Kasperky Lab:

If antivirus vendors place their detection on the executable and non-changing sections, all files would be successfully detected. However, if the Trojan's executable code were also polymorphic, the challenge of detecting it would be more difficult.

This, along with many other advancements in malicious apps, should keep Android users on their toes. The future for the little green robot looks very bright, but also more dangerous. So what should you as a user do to protect yourself from these Trojans? Well, make sure to stick to good practices - only use trusted application stores, read reviews, and take a look at the ratings. Be a careful consumer, and things should be fine for now. But we may soon have the necessity to download anti-virus apps. Right now, they are only an extra layer of protections, and are mostly used for their anti-theft or loss features.

For the past couple of years, Rdio has been one of the major players in the cloud-based music scene. Along with their lovely website player, they have apps on Android, iOS, and Windows Phone 7. Over time though, it seemed like the website and the iOS app were getting the majority of the development attention, as the Android app remained mostly unchanged.

Fortunately, Rdio has rectified this situation by bringing a huge update to their Android app that includes a lot of features that the Android fanbase has been clamoring for. These includ a new releases page, a top charts page, the ability to search for Rdio users, and a page that shows recommendations based on your collection and listening history. One additional feature that the Rdio release doesn't mention is that searching actually brings up recommendations as you're typing. The UI is also looking a bit more posh. You can have a peek at the screenshots below to get an idea of what the new look is all about.

Check the press release after the break for a full list of Rdio's new features, and click the Market link to download the app and try it out for yourself!

The Lenovo ThinkPad, released last year, is currently running Honeycomb, but word on the street is that Lenovo will officially launch an Ice Cream Sandwich update for the ThinkPad in May, so expect to see a notification update in May.

The update will be over-the-air and it will bring all those amazing features that we've come to know from ICS, like face unlock, an improved browser, voice input, a faster and more stable platform, and a better user experience. Now, we know that May is quite a ways off, but patience will have to win out for a lot of users on this one. Hopefully the update will be well worth the wait.

Any ThinkPad users out there? Are you excited to be getting some ICS love? Let us know in the comments!
