This phone I’m quite proud to review. Mostly because I own a Galaxy Mini and this is the Galaxy Mini 2. I will try to review it in comparison to the first Galaxy Mini to see if anything has changed at all ( and if any, how much it has changed ).

Processor : 800 MHz, Adreno 200, Qualcomm MSM7227

RAM : 512 MB

AndrodOS : 2.3 Gingerbread

Camera : 3.15 MP

Display : 320 x 480 pixels, 3.27 inches (~176 ppi pixel density)

Let’s get down to business, shall we. The phone itself isn’t much bigger than the original. Actually, they are the exact same size. It does, however, have a few differences. Some of them are major improvements, but then again, the Mini 1 was also quite a good phone ( granted it was among the older ones ). They both weigh the exact amount ( 105 g ) and they are both the same size ( 110 x 60 x 12 mm ). The main difference to be observed here is the lack of buttons on the Mini 2. While the first Galaxy Mini had 3 buttons : the menu, back and Home button, the Galaxy Mini 2 only has the Home button as a press-able button. The other two are touch sensitive controls.

The screen has also been improved in the color department. Not too many differences in the resolution or type of screen, but the color modification was direly needed. The screen remains a TFT Capacitive Touchscreen, but this version has 16 million colors, instead of the 256 K colors the other one had ( which really makes a difference ). One can’t help but say that an AMOLED may have done a better job than a TFT, but then again the TFT does its job right and is reliable nonetheless. The resolution of the screen reaches 320 x 480 pixels and the screen is 3.27 inches big. The pixel density revolves around 176 ppi for this one. It also has multitouch, just like the last one. Granted, the resolution is higher than it was on the Galaxy Mini ( the first one ) and so is the screen and pixel density, but this one does not have the TouchWiz UI that the first one had.

As far as memory is concerned, the Galaxy Mini 2 overtakes the Galaxy Mini 1 in every way possible. Be it about internal memory, RAM or anything else, this phone is better than the last ( which was the idea in the first place … just saying : I’m glad they’re doing it right ). The Internal storage space is now up to 4 GB of storage ( which is more than the 160 MB that the Galaxy Mini had ) and it also has more RAM. This phone has 512 MB of RAM ( a good number, but not as good as 1 GB – still, no point in making the Galaxy Mini 2 too overpowered ). Still, it’s a step forward, considering the first Galaxy Mini only had 384 MB of RAM. Don’t take me wrong, even with 384 the phone still runs superbly, but there is always room for improvement ( such is the nature of our technologically advanced world ). If by some unholy reason 4 GB of storage is too little for you, feel free to buy a MicroSD card for the phone. Anything works as long as it doesn’t exceed 32 GB ( if that is even possible for a MicroSD card ).

Moving on to the camera. There are no changes here whatsoever. The camera is the same as the Galaxy Mini’s camera. That’s no problem for me, however, since I never plan on using a phone as a camera. Why on earth would you buy a professional camera in the first place if you were planning on using the camera of the phone to take snaps or record video with it. The main camera is a 3.15 MP one and the secondary camera is nonexistent. The main camera can take snaps at a resolution of approximately 2048 x 1536 pixels and has no other feature besides geo-tagging. The video option of the camera only records in VGA quality and at a steady 25 fps. The exact same goes for the camera of the first Galaxy Mini.

Moving on to the hardware side of the phone : there have been some minor modifications done to this part. One of them is the fact that this Galaxy Mini 2 has a stronger processor than the Galaxy Mini 1. The rest of the changes are sort of nonexistent. The processor isn’t much stronger, however. You’ll notice that the numbers don’t make much of a difference, but the difference in performance is highly noticeable. What I’m talking about is the fact that the original Galaxy Mini had a 600 MHz processor, and the Galaxy Mini 2 will have an 800 MHz processor. The GPU will be an Adreno 200, just like the first Galaxy Mini ( still, it’s better than no GPU at all ). The chipset is also similar to the first Galaxy Mini, being a Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset. The sensors are more or less similar, this phone having and accelerometer, a proximity sensor and a compass. However, there isn’t too much to be impressed about on the sensors part, since all smartphones have those sensors. Same saying goes for the multitouch thing.

On the final part of the review / preview we shall talk about the Operating System that this phone comes with. While the first Galaxy Mini came out with 2.2 Froyo and was update-able to 2.3 Gingerbread, this one already comes out with 2.3 Gingerbread and there is no news whatsoever if it will ever receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update. Odds are it will, through some method or another, considering that the more talented developers out there managed to make ICS for the first Galaxy Mini, and that’s a pretty weak phone compared to the other ICS supporting phones. However, Gingerbread is sufficient for me, since I don’t really plan on using the phone to do who knows what complex actions such as cracking multiple data-bases, hacking Swiss banks or remote-controlling Transformers.

Since I’ve decided to add a bit more to my reviews, here is a short list of the features you can expect to see on this phone :

SNS integration

MP4/H.264/H.263 player

MP3/WAV/eAAC+/AC3/FLAC player

Organizer

Image/video editor

Document viewer

Google Search, Maps, Gmail,

YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk, Picasa integration

Voice memo/dial

Predictive text input

With this our little review ends and I can honestly say that I can’t wait for Q2 of 2012 to see this phone up close and personal. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it and if you feel there is something I have left out and is of utter importance, feel free to leave suggestions in the comments below and I shall try to consider them for my future projects.

Normally I do not really like the Huawei series of phones and up to now I have seen them as weak compared to some of the more popular ruling giants around. While looking as some of their latest products, or, to come phones, I feel that I should rethink my opinion of their merchandise. It’s clear to me that their phones are rapidly getting with the times and advancing to levels previously thought unreachable by their products. Furthermore, I shall be seeing many more of these Huawei phones if I remain this country since the old Nokia factory we had here was sold to Huawei and we’ll see quite a lot of them soon.

Moving on to the actual review / preview of this particular phone.

Processor : Dual-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9, PowerVR SGX540, TI OMAP 4460

RAM : 1 GB

AndrodOS : 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Camera : 8 MP

Display : 540 x 960 pixels, 4.3 inches (~256 ppi pixel density)

See, as I’ve said before, a pretty strong phone indeed.

Let’s get this show on the road with the preview of the display of this phone. We’re looking at a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors. The screen is 4.3 inches big and has a screen resolution of approximately 540 x 960 pixels and the pixel density of this particular phone revolves around 256 ppi. The screen of this phone also has multitouch, but no other details than that ( details such as how many fingers can simultaneously touch it or stuff like that ). The screen itself also has a really good protection method – the Corning Gorilla Glass display, which is an extremely powerful method of protection in my opinion ( and in other people’s opinions as well ).

On the memory side, the Huawei Ascend P1 has 1 GB of RAM and an internal storage space of approximately 4 GB. If for who knows what ungodly purpose you require more space than 4 GB, I suggest you purchase a MicroSD card for the MicroSD card slot takes anything up to 32 GB. Not much more to say about this …

The camera is pretty impressive too. We’re looking at an 8 MP camera capable of photographing at resolutions as big as 3264 x 2448 and has a bunch of features as well. Some of those features include autofocul, dual-LED flash, geo-taggging and HDR. The video recorder is quite a potent one too, being able of recording at 1080 full HD at a steady 30 fps. The Huawei Ascend P1 also has a secondary frontal camera of 1.3 MP. No more info about the camera apparently, so let us move on.

As far as hardware is concerned, the specs of this phone are quite promising. It’s quite powerful, I can say that much. The processor is a Dual-Core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9 processor and is accompanied by a TI OMAP 4460 chipset and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU. As I’ve said before, quite powerful indeed. This hardware configuration can allow the Huawei Ascend P1 to be able to run a whole lot of applications and games and not crash while doing so.

Moving on to the final part, the Operating System. This phone surprisingly comes out with pre-installed Ice Cream Sandwich ( or Android OS v4.0 if you prefer it that way ). Either way, quite an impressive feat considering that the Huawei series used to be pretty weak.

In conclusion this phone may be worth all of its hype and even more perhaps. It’s definitely quite strong and well-worth its price. No idea about any release date, however. You can expect to see it out somewhere in 2012, either in Q1 or Q2. Nobody can tell for sure. On a side note, however : when I say release date, I mean the release date on which the phone will come out officially and everywhere without any contractual restrictions. I’m saying this because there are cases in which a phone comes out earlier but it can only be purchased at the time via a very expensive contract between you and the service providers.

Actually, on a side note, HTC also has a great reputation if releasing awesome 4G phones. Ever since the iPhone 4 came out, the HTC phone producers released the best of phones, managing to overtake the phones which were considered the best of the best. And the best part of it all, not only are their phones extremely powerful, but they are also 4G ( which frankly only impresses those that actually know what 4G is and most importantly, have use of the 4G option ).

That’s enough of an introduction, let’s get this preview / review on the road, shall we ?

Processor : Dual-core 1.5 GHz, Adreno 220, Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon

RAM : 1 GB

AndrodOS : 2.3 Gingerbread

Camera : 8 MP

Display : 540 x 960 pixels, 4.5 inches (~245 ppi pixel density)

Just by glancing over those brief system specs you can deduce that this phone is far from weak. It may even be one of the really strong ones of 2012. But that can never be certain, since the technology market keeps evolving at an alarming rate ( which isn’t at all a bad thing ). Still, the fact remains : was this phone to come out a few months ago, it would have ruled the market. Still, better late than never.

On the display note, this phone has an S-LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors. The screen resolution reaches 540 x 960 pixels and the phone has a screen which is 4.5 inches big. The screen’s pixel density revolves around 245 ppi. The screen of the HTC Velocity 4G also has multitouch and the HTC Sense UI v3.5. There is no information about any relevant screen protection such as any type of scratch-resistant surface or Gorilla Glass Display. Still, even without those, it’s a pretty good display. The only downfall would be that the users will have to be extra careful not to drop it or else they might regret it.

On the memory side, the phone has an internal storage space of approximately 16 GB, but out of which only 13 GB are user-available. That’s more memory than I would have required, but if you somehow require even more storage space, the MicroSD card slot is there to help you. It can take any MicroSD card of up to 32 GB in order to turn your phone into a small mobile hard-drive. The HTC Velocity 4G also has a 1 GB of RAM allowing for quite a bit of multitasking. The RAM is currently the maximum amount of RAM available, but it may not be for long. After all, with all the advancements of technology nowadays one can never be certain. Seeing as how each and every new piece of technology is smaller and yet stronger, in the future we can imagine that there will be enough room on the phone’s chipset as to add another RAM slot in order to make it more powerful.

Moving on to the camera of the Velocity 4G, we’re looking at an 8 MP camera which can photograph at resolutions as high as 3264 x 2448 pixels and has a whole lot of features. Some of there features may include : autofocus, dual-LED flash, geo-tagging, image stabilization, face detection and last but not least, instant capture. That’s more than enough features than I myself would require, but I suppose they could be useful for the aspiring photograph on the go who prefers to use their smartphone, rather than buying a really expensive professional camera. The video recorder is capable of recording in full HD at 1080p and with a power of precision so great that it can easily run at 60 fps. Either way, that’s more than good enough, considering that the human eye can only perceive up to 65 fps. For those of you that have actually played computer games before, you probably noticed that the better your gaming unit, the more frames per second you will have. People tend to believe that 60 is low. That’s wrong considering that anything above 65 is perceived as 65 by the human eye, no matter how high it may be. The HTC Velocity 4G also has a secondary 1.3 MP camera which is capable of recording at 720p. I keep seeing this more and more and can’t actually understand how a 1.3 MP camera is capable of recording in HD ( even the 720p one ), but then I remember what hardware specs it has and I realize that it is probably boosted by the hardware in order to reach such performance.

As far as hardware is concerned, this phone is a regular powerhouse, being able to overtake even some of the older PCs. The processor of the HTC Velocity 4G is a wonderful Dual-Core of 1.5 GHz power called Scorpion. Since Scorpion processors usually keep a distinct company, you can expect to see a Qualcomm chipset and an Adreno GPU ( no matter where you look, whenever you see Scorpion processors you can expect those two to follow ). And it seems I am right since the chipset of this phone is a Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon and the GPU is an Adreno 220. See, as I said before, a regular powerhouse.

Moving on to the Operating System of this Android Phone, the Android version it comes equipped with is Android OS v2.3.7 Gingerbread and there is a planned update in the nearby future to v4.0. Normally I’d comment something against newer phones coming out with older OS version, but since the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is coming soon to this phone as well, I will just shut up and move on.

Now this concludes my little preview / review of the the HTC Velocity 4G. I hope it has covered the points which you were looking for and if you have any suggestions for any other phones I should review next, feel free to leave them in the comments below. If you feel there are any other things I should include in my reviews feel free to leave your suggestions below and I shall include them in my future projects. As for the release date of this phone, nothing is certain. There were expectations for January 2012 but since it’s not out yet, the most we could say is Q1 of 2012. Time will tell …

I haven’t done one of these phone reviews in quite a while so I might not be up to par with all the new tech available. Excuse me if my analysis of the phone seems wrong to you and if my opinion of the phone’s capabilities is somewhat judgmental but I haven’t done this for a while and I’m trying to re-get the hang of it. The reason why a review for a phone has been so long delayed is simple. There has been a slow period in the phone market when all of the announced phones were nothing but re-makes and re-boots of the already existing ones. Either adding some improvements to the screen, the size or the specs of the phone by a little, they managed to milk out as much of the industry as possible doing nothing but creating the same phones but with a Plus or an HD in the name. I’m not saying those phones are bad, after all, if you liked the original, you will surely like the modded version as well. Of course that does imply something which leaves you feeling like a bit of a sucker. You know that awkward feeling you get when buying a costly piece of technology (since all of them are expensive) and the next month the same piece of tech you bought (with some slight modifications) appears for a more attractive price. In the world of technology, this happens quite often. But it’s good on one half, because it implies change.

Enough dilly-dally. Let us begin out small review shall we ?

Processor : Dual-core 1.5 GHz, Adreno 220, Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon

RAM : 1 GB

AndrodOS : 2.3 Gingerbread

Camera : 12 MP

Display : 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.3 inches (~342 ppi pixel density)

On the display side, this phone has an LED-Backlit LCD with a capacitive touchscreen and 16 million colors. The screen resolution reaches 720 x 1280 pixels and the screen itself is 4.3 inches big. That implies that the screen pixel density can reach an awesome 342 ppi. It also has an impressive multitouch option, working fine with as much as 10 fingers. The screen also has a scratch-resistant glass so no need to worry too much about it.

On the memory side, it has an amazing internal storage space of 32 GB and 1 GB of RAM. It allows for quite a bit of multitasking and storage, but the disadvantage of it comes to the ones that want to use the phone as a mobile hard drive. You see it has no MicroSD card slot. In other words, you have to stick to what it gives you. But that’s not a problem for me, or many other people. I am satisfied with 2 GB and that’s about it.

The camera of this phone is amazing. Were it 2011 again, this camera would have been unheard of. I’m referring of course to a 12 MP camera which can photograph at resolutions as high as 4000 x 3000 pixels. It also has a whole lot of features, such as : autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, 3D sweep panorama and image stabilization. It also has a video recorder which works fine at 1080p with a steady 30 fps and has continuous autofocus and video light and also a video stabilizer. The phone also has a 1.3 MP secondary camera capable of running at 720p at a steady 30 fps. The reason why I’m so impressed with the camera is that it’s a small step towards the future. I’ve once seen a “rumored” Galaxy SIII with 2 GB of RAM, Quad-Core and 12 MP camera. At the time it seemed impossible. But just look at the phone world now. Quad-Cores exist and are being used more and more, the 12 MP camera is already here and the 2 GB of RAM isn’t all that hard to achieve. Why ? you may ask. Because with the advancements of science and technology, each and every component keeps getting smaller and smaller. With the smaller pieces, you have more room to add a secondary RAM slot, so problem solved. Either way, this proves that greatness is not far beyond.

Time to move on the hardware part of this wonderful phone. It has a really powerful hardware, considering all that has been said. The chipset is a Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon. Since Qualcomm chipsets always come paired with Adreno graphical processing units, this phone is no exception. The GPU of this one is an Adreno 220 ( which frankly isn’t all that strong, considering my Galaxy Mini also has one, but with all of the rest of powerful components, it more than makes up for it ). The processor is a Dual-Core 1.5 GHz processor. Not that impressive of a processor since I’ve just said, it’s impossible to view the Dual-Cores the same way when you know there are Quad-Cores around which are twice as good as these ones (literally). Still, all and all a very powerful configuration.

When this phone will come out, it will be equipped with Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread. Normally I’d comment against a new phone with that strong of a configuration coming out with an older OS version, but a planned update to 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is around the corner. Also, while on the topic of the Ice Cream Sandwich update, there have been certain rumors that in the second quarter of this year a new version of Android will be announced. Most phones don’t support the 4.0, but they are already planning on releasing 5.0, which will be called Jelly Bean ( since Google has a habit of naming all of its OS versions after sweets ).

That’s about it for this phone. I honestly hope that it has helped you make an idea of how the Sony Xperia S will be and has made you sort of want it for yourself so you can see what it can do first hand. Keep a lookout for the release date since no news about the release is absolutely correct and no rumor is to be trusted, unless it has solid evidence to back it up. This has been the review / preview of the Sony Xperia S.

Do you ever wanted to switch networks but failed because your phone was locked ? Well, this is a common problem. Despite there is a lot of pressure on carriers to ship unlocked phones, I don’t think this will happen to soon. But, I have good news for you. With smartphones and advanced phones, the unlock procedure can be made only by software, if you know what to do or if you have the right tools.

Every manufacturers use different locking techniques, but they are all software. This mean that they can be changed either manually, or with a program that you will run from your phone. How to find the right tools ? Well, you can do some search and find what others with your same device and operating system done to unlock the phone, or, you can use Global Unlock. It will provide you with the right tools and knowledge to unlock your phone yourself.

Everyone has heard of this program at least once in their lives. I’m sure that, at some point in your life, you’ve used this program to fix one problem or another. Heck, you might even have it installed right now. And you’d be right to keep it around since it’s quite useful to the people that have use of it. For those who don’t know what this program is however, let me enlighten you in as few words as possible : it is a third party access program through which you can access the computer of the person that has given you the necessary data ( or the other way around ) in order to repair a problem or another. In short, a pretty handy thing to have around when certain problems which exceed your technical prowess occur.

If you have never used this program before, let me enlighten you with a few examples of a few situations when I, or some of my friends, have had to use this useful program. Take for instance, as I’ve read on one website, if you’re a student and your parents want to keep in touch with you via Skype or some other video chat program and their PC starts going on the fritz and acting really strange. You made sure to install an anti-virus before leaving and give it a clean slate, but nothing good lasts for ever. Still, with Team Viewer you can connect to that PC remotely and fix it as if you were right in front of it. It’s that simple, and if you aren’t near a desktop to use it, you can use the Android mobile version whenever you want. Or let’s take a look at another example. Say that you have a Private Server for an Online Game ( there are many people playing on such servers since not everyone is keen with buying a game with 50+ euros and then paying another 15 euros per month to play it ). Since a Private Server demands a high amount of resources, usually you don’t get to do much on the PC which serves as the Server. In order to rectify that, you can have a PC used specifically as the Server one and control it via remote with Team Viewer. Thus, you have a computer taking care of all the hosting and you’ve got a free computer on which to do your work.

Here is a short list of the features :

Both spontaneous support for friends & family and access to unattended computers (Windows, Mac, Linux) are possible – also during a telephone call

Conveniently control remote computers using the multi-touch gestures: left click, right click, drag & drop, scroll wheel, zoom

Complete keyboard control incl. special keys such as Ctrl, Alt, Windows®

Meets highest security standards: 256 Bit AES Session Encoding, 1024 Bit RSA Key Exchange

Effortlessly access computers behind firewalls and proxy servers

Automatic quality adjustment

Remotely reboot the computer

Overview of friends and computers that are online – via the integrated computer list

Tablet ready

Is available for Android 1.6 and higher

You can find this neat little App on the Android Market, or download it from their main website, or get it from wherever the hell you get your apps. Just know, it will be of no use to you unless you actually need it.

The Android Market is a truly phenomenal piece of work. It is a website which was integrated into most Android Devices in no small part due to its functionality and reliability.

Many people tend to believe that they can find more apps or even different apps from the Android Market in other places, so I have decided to lay out some of the best ( yet, rather few ) alternatives to this great website.

The best I could find myself ( my results being based solely on the number of daily visits and total traffic through meticulous scans with certain Google created plugins ) are as follows :

Android Apps : the second one I found after Android Market, so if you are to judge by the position it occupies, you can classify it as a rather good one. Attention though, I cannot vouch for the quality OR quantity of its apps and content since I haven’t really had time to search it to its full potential and see what it is capable of.

Android Zoom : this is the one that follows the previous, already mentioned alternative. Again, I can’t really say too much about how good its content is or how much content can be found on it since, due to severe lack of time, I could not exploit it to its maximum.

Now, after mentioning the two alternatives out there ( I don’t feel like I should write any more about them, since if you are truly interested, just click on the link and see for yourself ), I shall try and enlighten you on why I do not approve of these alternatives to the Android Market.

It’s nothing personal, just the fact that I’m stuck in the older way of thinking. Perhaps you need some more information. Here’s how I, and most people actually, view things. Once someone has managed to make it to the top, through whatever way necessary, that someone will get a certain degree of respect and some credibility. Other people will see that particular someone as reliable and trust-worthy ( unless they are politicians ).

Now bear with me on this one. The Android Market may or may not have been the first to enter the Internet, but it certainly proved to be victorious. Such was the case of the Android. It came AFTER the iOS, yet it managed to surpass it. To make things even more relevant, people trust in the Android Market since it is older and has more traffic and content, thus, people tend to believe that it is more reliable and more trustworthy than some of the newer alternatives to it.

This is our human nature. We always consider things that are older to be better than the newer ones in no small part due to the fact that we have come to rely on those things and are slow to embrace change. That is why, in our society, newer things will always be treated with a certain dislike and distrust. No need to believe every word I say though, instead just take a look out the window and see for yourself.

Take doctors, for example. Say you have to undergo a very complicated procedure to your, let us say, limbs. Say you’ve had, I don’t know, nerve damage, and you want to salvage or repair those damaged nerves. Although it would be a simple procedure and there are busting young lads out there specially trained for that precise procedure, our average Joe will go to the doctor that HE knows for quite some time, or to the doctor which is older since he thinks that that doctor will do a better job. Common misconception, but it is so common that almost everybody in this world thinks like this. Human nature, you just can’t change it.

Or, here’s an even more relevant example. Say you are an entrepreneur at the beginning of his career. You have managed to create a product that will revolutionize SOMETHING and you want to market it. You have already started mass-production since you know for a fact that it will be a huge success. You can’t market it yourself, since you’re too busy managing the production of that item. What do you do in that situation ? No need to think about that. The most logical thing to do in that position is to hire a professional who can handle the sales so you don’t have to get your hands dirty with such things and keep your nose to the grindstone. Now here comes the most important part : who to choose ? You have a choice between a really big sales agent who has a history of bringing great success to most people who deserve it, and someone that says they’ve done the same, but you haven’t really heard anything about. Honestly now, WHO would you choose ?

That’s my point. When given the choice whether or not to pick the Android Market or the Alternatives, most app producers will chose the Android Market just because they have that extra feeling in their gut that they can rely on it. And I understand them perfectly. After all, when you create an awesome app, there is no guarantee that someone won’t just steal your project. They aren’t that hard to dissect for someone with a bit of skill, and you may not meet the financial demands to patent that app or object or creation to your name. And when everything is said and done, you might be left alone with nothing to atone for and all of your work squandered by some person that just copied your creation and never even bothered to say even a simple Thank You. And all that because you didn’t want to place it on one of the big dealers. Now I’m not saying that project stealing doesn’t happen on the Android Market as well. It may, who knows. After all, anything is possible. What I am saying though, is that chances are it will happen LESS there than in other places.

Now all the large paragraph was about things to consider if you are and app maker. If you’re simple an app-user and searching a lot for something and the Android Market says it doesn’t have, odds are you won’t find on the other alternatives either. Keep in mind what I said earlier. The Android Market is always the first to get the good stuff, then come the others. If, however ( and I’m saying this because it happened to me once ), the Android Market has found you the app you are looking for but is telling you that your device is not compatible with it, it is right. Take my case, for example. I used to search for an Adobe Flash Player, just for the sport of it. I was bored of the YouTube app and was trying to view some online audio files from a website of mine and needed Flash Player to do so. The Android Market told me it wasn’t compatible and thus didn’t let me install it. Naturally, I got mad and started searching for an alternative. I found the flash player, in the end, and installed it successfully. The problem was that the audio files I was previously trying to access were still not working. That’s when I realized that the Android Market was right. It worked well enough, but it wasn’t fully capable of doing everything it was supposed to do. So if you’re in the position of getting warnings and “errors” from app providers, they are always right ( or most of the times, anyway ).

This concludes our small “presentation” of the existing alternatives to everything we have, and the end of our brief view into the fabric of the human nature. In the end, I hope I managed to make you a bit more intelligent and self-aware of the flaws of the world we live in.

When your PC freezes and starts acting up, you usually do the old Ctrl+Alt+Delete or Ctrl+Shift+Esc to solve the problem. Well Android is no different. Except it’s built on Linux and the PC is running Windows. So if your Android device starts acting up really badly, just hold the HOME button and click on Task Manager to go do some fixing, the old fashioned way.

Most of them are structured on certain Tabs through which you have an easier time using it. If you really want to save up some battery life click on the RAM tab and choose to end all apps that are using any RAM memory.

Still, if you must try, you can find all sorts of Task Managers on the Android Market. I can’t vouch for any of them since all of the free ones I have tried tended to beat around the bush and be completely off when it comes to simplicity and practicality. That’s why I chose to keep with the normal, already included task manager since it tends to do everything all the others do and it does it more efficiently, more user-friendly and is easier to user.

So if you must, just search the Android Market for Task Manager and try your luck with whatever you find. I’m sticking with the basic one.

Ah Twitter. The perfect app for the stalkers that want to follow the activity of their favorite celebrities / future victims. How can you not like an app such as this one ? This app does exactly what the website itself does. More precisely, it helps hone your stalking skills. You know what they say, you can’t be a normal citizen without stalker skills.

Well leaving all that stalker bit aside, this is an app that helps you connect to an Anti-Social Network ( more commonly known as Social Network, but due to the amount of Anti-Social freaks of nature that populate these websites, I have taken the liberty of calling them Anti-Social Networks ). The Social Network it connects you to is Twitter. If you don’t know what Twitter is, don’t ask me. I haven’t created an account on that website and probably never will. However, what Twitter commonly does is help you “level up” you attention whore skills by letting the whole world know what sort of color, texture and size your stool was. Well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but not entirely far from the truth.

With this app you can “follow your interests” via instant updates from your friends, industry experts, favorite celebrities and stuff. Pretty much a stalker program, but let’s keep going. This app permits the receival of short bursts of timely information and small updates about the stuff you’re interested it.

Apparently, according to the original description, this app has two simultaneous operations. The real-time revealing search engine which shows all of the breaking news and at the same time all trending topics show what has been happening around the world. You can view trends, browse your interests and see suggested users in several categories such as fashion, entertainment and travel. Also, you can search to find out what people are saying about such topics that you care about.

Features :

Browse interests

Find & follow friends

Retweet

Favorite

Follow

Exchange Direct messages with your followers

Share photos and web pages

Real-time search

Trends

Well that about wraps up this app. Feel free to download it from the Android Market if you like this sort of social network thing. Nothing for me to do here.

This is oriented towards the people that actually use the Android device for their work. Be it only to open some PDF documents or to edit .doc or .docx or any other extension of file you can imagine from the Microsoft Office.

If somehow the original Quick-Office that is already integrated on your Android device when you get it is not enough to satisfy your greedy needs for Office, I shall now show you a few alternatives to it.

Quick-Office PRO

Well if Quick-Office wasn’t good for you and you found it boring, then I suggest you not touch this one either. This is the PRO version of Quick-Office offering a lot more content than its predecessor, the FREE one and it’s really good for all sorts of things. This is also the only PAID program you will see in this short article, so if you aren’t planning on spending a bit of money to get some really high quality merchandise, than don’t bother reading this.

Without need of saying, you can create, edit and even share Microsoft Office documents, spreadsheets and presentations, as well as open PDF files ( normally you would need a reader or something but Quick-Office PRO has one already integrated ). The most recent updates of this app include Office 2010 support, Evernote, Catch and Egnyte access. You can also merge or split cells and there are new sharing partners available. There are more new features than this one, but if you want to see them, try it out for yourself.

The Quick-Office app is recognized by Google as the Top Developer ( that’s you it’s already pre-installed on many Android devices ) and it offers the most connected and comprehensive mobile office suite available for Android. You can work with Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations while easily accessing files remotely with the enhanced Connected File Manager. Through it you get easy access to sharing files from your device or your Google Docs, Dropbox, Box, Evernote, Catch, Egnyte, Huddle, SugarSync or MobileMe accounts. So as you can see, quite a large list of sharing options. As I’ve mentioned before, there is also a free already included PDF viewer.

A list of features for those who don’t like to read large paragraphs :

Create, View and Edite Microsoft Word documents, Excel Spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and more.

Access Google Docs, Dropbox, Box, Evernote, Catch, Huddle, SugarSync and MobileMe with ease.

Access and manage files from your device with ease.

View Office and non-Office files within the file manager with ease.

Create, copy, move, delete or rename files and folders with ease.

Share files via E-Mail, SMS, Bluetooth, Cloud services and Social Media with ease.

Browse zip files and copy files from zip folders to other directories with ease.

So for an easy and efficient Office, choose this one. Still, if aren’t interested in Paying for an app, keep reading to see the FREE alternatives. However, word of the wise, they are somewhat inferior to this Premium one. But that’s how life is, you always get more with Premium quality.

Kingsoft Office

This is a very complex Office application which does nearly as much as the Quick-Office PRO one, but is lacking quite a few of the Premium features offered by it. Still, it is a good FREE alternative.

Kingsoft is known as the most user-friendly Office for mobile devices : it’s good no matter the size of the screen, be it for a Cellphone or a Tablet. It also offers a lot of features and is free to boot.

Main Features:

View & Edit DOC, DOCX, TXT files;

View & Edit XLS, XLSX files;

View & Edit PPT, PPTX files;

View PDF files;

User-friendly & nice UI;

Built-in file manager that can automatically organize your office document;

Tight integration with the mail application: you can open the attachment, and can directly send after modification;

Support the cloud storage services with WebDAV protocol;

And we will continuously update the App, adding new features!

Well since the time that it has gotten those features, it has also been updated, and it now holds quite a few more features. Some bigger than the others, some not so important, minor tweaks and stuff like that. Still, it’s interesting to see that the people who made it keep updating it despite the fact that they receive no monetary gain from sales.

Writer:

Support copy and paste between Apps

Can view and edit documents in Page-Layout or Web-Layout

With Reader mode, you can easily switch to reader mode after open the document

Full screen reading mode

Display DOC documents headers and footers, comments and revisions.

Display tables wrap effects in the DOC files.

With the paragraph Indents and Spacing function, you can easily adjust the paragraph indents and spacing.

Spreadsheets:

Auto-Filter

Search function

Sort function

Full screen reading mode

Freeze panes

Quickly display the calculated results of the selected area (sum, average, etc.)

Display charts, view chart details

Select cells by trackball and keyboard arrow keys

Open the encrypted documents.

Display the AutoShapes in XLS files

Display the radar charts, separation pie charts, composite pie charts, ring charts, etc. in the XLS files

Presentation:

With thumbnails list like PC Office, for convenient slide switch

Support Play mode

Support laser pointer when playing

Display tables

Display charts

Overall features:

Support external Bluetooth keyboard and USB keyboard input

Support external keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V, Ctrl-S, etc. And we are adding more)

Display history files as photos wall

Well, there you have it. You have your choice between a FREE one and a PRO one. While some are inclined towards the PRO one simply because it’s premium ( and premium usually offers more benefits than free ), you can also get the job done with the free one as well. The differences aren’t too big between them, in the end. But don’t take my word for granted, instead, try them out for yourself.
