Nokia N9 springs up in glossy white, gets a software update

With all the Windows Phone devices Nokia announced today, the Espoo company also revealed a new color for the N9. The MeeGo-running smartphone that got many excited, will now be available in white, alongside its black, magenta and blue siblings.

Unlike them, however, the white N9 will come with a glossy finish rather than the matte finishes of the other N9 models. We're glad the white finish didn't took Nokia years (*cough* Apple *cough*) to develop because it looks stunning. Here's Frank Zilikens, head of product marketing, explaining why the N9 wasn't available in white right off the bat:
“The manufacturing process for beautiful white products is quite complex and we wanted to make sure we deliver the best possible quality for our consumers."
The Verge managed to get their hands on one of the white N9's lying around. Here's how it looks like in person.

Along the white colored N9, Nokia also announced a software update coming for the device. It will bring usability improvements such as:

Nokia has launched the new Symbian Belle smartphones, Nokia 600, Nokia 700 and Nokia 701 in India. These phones were announced last month in Hong Kong, and they come with single-tap NFC pairing and sharing capabilities, 1 Ghz processor and 512 MB RAM. The Nokia 600 has powerful loudspeaker with the audio output of 106 phon and FM transmitter and FM receiver. The Nokia 700 is the thinnestNokia smartphone which is just 9.7mm thick. The Nokia 701 features the brightest display on any smartphone,2 Microphones for stereo audio recording. All these phones come with common connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, USB OTG support and A-GPS.

UPDATE: Nokia had roped in Shahrukh Khan to launch the device.

Close on the heels of their worldwide launch, the three new Belle handsets from Nokia’s stable, 700, 701 and 600 made an entry into India through an event held in Mumbai yesterday. The latest devices run on the recently launched Symbian Belle operating system.

The handsets integrate the ‘Just Tap’ with NFC feature. Nokia has also tied up with the forthcoming movie, Ra.One, a Red Chillies Entertainment production. This will not only facilitate the promotion of the movie but also help in developing NFC services in India.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. D Shivakumar, Managing Director, Nokia India stated, “The Indian smartphone market is growing at an exponential rate. The Nokia 600 and 700 smartphones are priced at Rs. 12,999 and Rs. 18,099 respectively. They will be available through leading mobile retail stores in India from next month. The Nokia 701 is available for a price of Rs. 18,999.
