Sehari-hari dalam pekerjaan saya di digital sejak 15 tahun lalu, pasti ada kalanya saya membutuhkan data yang berada di parameter UTM (yang ada di URL) untuk dibawa ke dalam sebuah sistem analytics atau database CRM (Customer Relationship Management), untuk mengetahui source dari conversion tersebut.

Contoh URL di bawah ini:

Misalnya saja website saya adalah website yang mempunyai goal untuk lead generation / mengambil lead – misalnya untuk pinjaman angsuran mobil. Sebagai digital marketer, kita harus tahu campaign atau sumber mana yang berhasil mendapatkan lead, dan bahkan sampai ke bottom of the funnel dimana lead tersebut berhasil mendapatkan settlement / funding / dana pinjaman.

Untuk contoh URL di atas, kita ingin tahu bahwa campaign social media kita di Facebook yang berasal dari campaign artikel bulanan, tidak saja berhasil menjadi lead, tapi juga berhasil untuk mendapatkan sejumlah settlement / funding.

Web Analytics

Dengan tool-tool web analytics seperti Google Analytics atau Adobe Analytics, kita bisa tahu dengan mudah, lead yang berhasil di convert itu datangnya dari mana. Namun yang biasanya sulit untuk didapatkan adalah data setelah interaksi online, misalnya jika interaksi selanjutnya semua terjadi secara offline.

Sering terjadi dalam perusahaan-perusahaan yang bukan murni di digital, misalnya setelah lead di-capture:

• Call-center / tim sales menelepon lead tersebut.
• 2 hari kemudian, lead berhasil mengumpulkan semua dokumen yang dibutuhkan, lalu di-submit ke tim aplikasi kredit.
• Selang 2 hari lagi, aplikasi kredit dari lead baru di-approve.
• Lalu konsumen/lead tersebut baru memutuskan untuk mengambil pinjaman 2 hari kemudian.

Jika tidak ada data loop dari interaksi offline ke tool analytics yang kita pakai, maka sangat sulit untuk men-track ROI (return of investment) dari aktivitas yang kita jalankan.

Capture Data di UTM ke Dalam Database

Salah satu cara untuk menanggulangi masalah di atas adalah dengan meng-capture data parameter UTM yang ada di URL ke dalam sistem database atau analytics. Jika anda menggunakan sistem CRM seperti Salesforce, Hubspot, atau lainnya, kita bisa menambah data yang kita mau ke dalam form di website. Data-data yang bisa membantu menganalisa ROI dan aktivitas kita misalnya:

• Data parameter UTM
• Varian experimen halaman – jika kita melakukan experimen (misalnya a/b testing)
• Tipe device (ini hanya contoh saja: misalnya saja kita bisa menemukan bahwa pembeli dengan telefon genggam bisa menjadi lead, namun settlement ratenya sangat rendah; Sementara pengguna desktop jauh lebih tinggi funding rate nya)

Jadi data-data di atas ini bisa membantu kita untuk memutuskan aktivitas apa yang kita harus fokuskan lagi, dan target audience mana yang kita bisa tingkatkan – berdasarkan data settlement/funding.

Kode JavaScript untuk Mengambil Data Parameter UTM

Berikut kode JavaScript yang bisa dipakai untuk mengambil data parameter UTM ke sebuah variable JavaScript:

• utmTerm untuk term

Data-data tersebut bisa kita pakai lagi di misalnya:

• Di expose ke form untuk dibawa masuk ke database
• Di save ke cookie browser

Verifikasi Variable JavaScript

Jika anda klik salah satu contoh link URL di bawah ini (link mempunyai parameter UTM), halaman ini akan me-refresh dan anda akan bisa melihat form di bawah akan terisi dengan data-data UTM dari URL.

  Pengunjung yang berasal dari mesin pencari seperti Google – dan mereka klik listing yang tidak berbayar.
• Paid Search
  Pengunjung yang berasal dari mesin pencari seperti Google – dan mereka klik listing iklan berbayar.
• Social
  Pengunjung yang berasal dari social media seperti misalnya Facebook atau Twitter.

Semakin populer website kita, makin banyak pula traffic yang mengunjungi, dan juga semakin banyak pula sumber trafficnya.

Arti Direct Traffic yang Sebenarnya

Di artikel kali ini, kita akan membahas apa arti sebenarnya dari “direct traffic” di tool analytics yang kita gunakan, misalnya Google Analytics atau Adobe Analytics.

Secara umum, pengertian direct traffic adalah user yang mengetik alamat website kita langsung di browser mereka. Ini termasuk dari para user yang telah mem-bookmark website kita.

Namun yang tidak banyak diketahui oleh para digital marketer – biasanya mereka yang masih baru di bidang digital – sebenarnya direct traffic adalah cara dari Google Analytics untuk menyatakan bahwa mereka tidak tahu sumber traffic ini berasal dari mana.

Jadi selain skenario user mengetik alamat website langsung di browser mereka, kemungkinan lain termasuk:

1. Email – Klik dari link di email yang tidak di-track.
2. Aplikasi Mobile – Klik dari link di sebuah aplikasi mobile (misalnya app social media) yang tidak di-track.
3. Dokumen / PDF – Klik dari link di sebuah dokumen (misalnya PDF atau Microsoft Word) yang tidak di-track.
4. Website lain – Klik dari referral website lain yang secure (https) ke website non-secure (http). Ini memang sengaja di design seperti ini untuk segi keamanan. Namun jangan khawatir, kasus ini tidak akan ada untuk:
   • http ke http
   • https ke https
   • http ke https
5. Landing page yang tidak di-track – Referral dari halaman pertama (landing page) traffic yang tidak mempunyai tracking tag ke halaman lain.
6. Redirect – Sistem redirect yang “menghapus” atau menghilangkan parameter tracking di URL.
7. Short URL – Traffic dari shorten URL yang tidak di track
8. Lainnya – Traffic dari campaign marketing lain yang tidak di-track

If you hear the lyrics, it is about two people who commit to love one another, forever and ever. And whatever things may come, they will overcome it together. All love, butterflies and rainbows.

But I actually wrote this song when I was so down and desperate and lonely and all those things. It was probably the unconscious side of me that brought up this inspiration of a song.

Anyway, 20 years later, here it is. And I obviously use a picture of my wife and I for this album.

Oh by the way, I actually made a music video of this song when I was in London. It was a true life moment when a good friend of mine proposed to his girlfriend and she said yes. All these were recorded and made into the video.

HOWEVER, just to make the irony even more is they have now separated (with two kids). It is maybe for the better, and I do hope they are much happier now (they seem to be actually). And to respect them, I have removed the video from the wider net.

The actual story about this song is people tend to build an invisible wall or protections around themselves, that only allows them to be surrounded by like-minded people – based on their own version. But this actually prevents them from being happier.

These protections can often be in the form of religion, race, social status – where they only want to hangout or date (or sadly, allowed to date) with a certain group.

And on the other side of the story, for someone who is seen as an outsider to the group, just need to be patient as happiness is just waiting around the corner, where and when other people will accept them as they are.

Anyway, enough of the deep story BS and remembering my old sad moments.

Quite funny if I remember those moments when I consider myself to still be a child compared to present time, the excitement to see that someone was online in instant messenger, saying hi and just checking in.

The hollow we feel when the person is away and not available for the whole day.

Anyway, this song is “Half the World Away”. I actually made a music video of this song for one of my uni projects, back when I was living in London. I got one of my best friends Ingvild and my flatmate Juan to star in it. And the song was the acoustic version, while this version that I put up to Spotify is sort of an indie-electronic version.

Some people were lucky enough to go far away and leave for a longer period of time, years or even decades.

When this leaving event is planned, all the excitement and worry heading up closer to the time usually messes up with our mind in both good and bad way. For me at least, it gave me ideas and inspiration to write a song.

This song “Pergi” was about me leaving Jakarta, Indonesia, to go to London back in 2007. Thinking all the people I was leaving behind. And I was not seeing anyone serious at that time, so this song wasn’t about anyone specific except for my mum perhaps.

Back in 2005, after I finished working at Hard Rock FM, I rejoined the Indonesian national baseball team – but this time as an official. And once that was done, that is it.

Well I knew that I eventually will go somewhere abroad to do my master’s degree (finally went in 2007 to London), so there was this 2-year limbo period.

I still make my own money though, through:

• Singing at weddings, around 1-2 times per month.
• Composing games background music in midi once-per-month for a friend of mine who was contracted by a company in the Netherlands to make games for them (he was a Java developer).
• I worked on a project basis at 2 event organising companies.
• Official scorekeeping for baseball tournaments.

So overall it wasn’t much, but it kept me going.

Honestly, this period was both the darkest moment in my life, but also (and likely the cause of) the most productive song-writing period in my life.

Even now (at present time) – when I have decided to do music again, I am at a relatively low point in life. But more on that sometimes. So I do believe that people tend to be in a fucked-up state to be creative.

Don’t die with your gifts still inside you.

Hits me directly in the nerve.

If you have known me well during my 20s, you’d know that I have been writing songs since then. Throughout these years, I’ve written around 35 songs (yeah some of them are crap). But I have only produced like 12 of them into recordings.

If you live in Jakarta, you probably have heard some of my songs. As around 6 of them have been aired by radio stations between 2005-2007.

Okay, it wasn’t 100% based on merit, cause I worked there at the radio network. And knowing the music directors also definitely helped.

I can’t believe I’ve been postponing this for years. Even last year, a good friend of mine asked me why I do not put my songs on Spotify. I have been asking myself the same question.

So I finally release my first song..

• Why today (1 June)? It is my mom and late dad’s anniversary.
• Why is the name of the label Mangosteen Records? Our first and longest family home was at Mangosteen (Manggis) Street.
• Why did I choose Everyday is Like Sunday as my first song? Cause it was the first of my song that was aired at radio stations back in 2005.

I haven’t really told anyone about this, apart from my wife. Apparently the usual process of a Spotify release is:

• An artist releases a song.
• (processing time)
• Once the song is on Spotify, the artist can “claim” the artist page.
• Once successful, the artist can put up images, write bio, etc.
• It won’t show up instantly, it can take days.
• Even now I still can’t even find my own artist page from the Spotify search. I do have the direct link though.
• Then I assume everything will be right (still waiting).

Anyway, heads up, I will be posting more of my music here and into the streaming world. I’ll start with my existing songs before I release new ones.

If the sound engineering quality of these songs are not in par with other songs in your playlists, I do have to apologise in advance as these are recorded at home with cheap home studio equipments, and these are mixed & mastered by… yup, yours truly. This being said, I am also learning on how to do these better.
