A common post-gig question is, "So, who's Rianne then?" A common post-gig answer to said question is, "Rianne is an abstract drawn from various sources; a quantum probability whom I can only hope to meet one day. Perhaps she's you." A common reaction to this answer is an awkward silence, followed by a hasty retreat.

This is yet another take from my Summer 2011 recording session. Unusually for me, it is quite long, weighing in at about 4 and a half minutes. Next stop prog!

You think I'm joking....

Lyrics:

Oh Rianne
The fact of never having you
took quite a lot of working through
I've previously sung about the worst time we ever said adieu
This story should be done by now
The pages should have fallen out

Oh Rianne
I really really think I am the only one for you
and I would waste a whole life vainly trying to convince you that it's true
I could be your knight in shining armour or your whore

Oh Rianne I will not rest until I'm yours

Oh Rianne
Fate forever forked
This one time in your life just give it up and go for me
My self esteem gets damaged and my heart aches when you see me as plan B
Bring me my rivals and I will defeat them all

Oh Rianne I will not rest until I'm yours

Oh Rianne
I will not abort
Though when I say I will not rest I mean I'll strive to be the best
and either win your heart or self improve enough that I can just restart
Fate cracks a window once it's bolted all one's doors

Oh Rianne I will not rest until I'm yours

In the aftermath of insanity, one cold fact endures

Oh Rianne I will not rest until I'm yours

<itunes:summary>Hello once again, friends. Thanks for the positive comments regarding recent tracks :) I thought I'd start posting little snippets and obscurities inbetween the main download posts. I promise not to shout about these ones quite so much.

Today's delicia is a sneak peak at my current recording project: a concept album! I have the songs written (there will be some old, and some new), and it will tell a story of sorts. I'm really quite excited about it; I'll be recording the drum tracks with Tony from The Lost Clauses over the next few weeks, and from then I will start layering things up. I am determined that it sound epic, and to this end I have started composing brass parts.

It's been a new and interesting experience, but those are the experiences that really enhance one's understanding of the craft. All about pushing in new directions. Anyway, today's download is a sample from one such arrangement, rendered in nasty synthesised brass. Don't suppose you know any brass musicians?</itunes:summary>

		<itunes:summary>"I finally grew up
realised love is a fairy tale
my stomach turned, my face went pale
and then I threw up"

This is a very cynical song. I can't say it really reflects my personality as a whole, that would make me quite an upleasant character, but it does reflect a little part of my (and, I think, everybody's) mind, blown up to horrifying extremes. Lyrically, I always seem to bounce between hope and cynicism. One of these days I will get the balance right. Then I will truly be the poetic voice of a generation, and everything will be ok.

Or maybe everything will always be FUCKED.

Then again...

Lyrics

Show me some warmth
I'm sick of being bored
I wanted love but all I ever seemed to get was ignored

so now I've changed
I've allowed my heart to wilt
I've learned to disregard my feelings and to lie without guilt

I can say you're beautiful

I'm not looking for a show stopper
I'm not asking you to treat me proper
I stumbled from my pedestal, I'm crumpled on the floor
now I'm pretty sure that I can't hope for more
a girl like you to make me her whore
so show me some warmth

I finally grew up
realised love is a fairy tale
my stomach turned, my face went pale
and then I threw up

but now I'm cured
there is no pressure, you can't hurt me
when you callously desert me
so long as I've scored

I've dealt with your type before

I'm not looking for a show stopper
I'm not asking you to treat me proper
I'm cold and I am naked sat here quaking at your door
I'll tell you once more, like I told you before
come over here and show me some warmth
just show me some warmth</itunes:summary>

Here, by popular demand, is my 2007 recording of 'Robin Hood', that featured on my split with Al Baker. This is still one of my most popular songs, and I love playing it, though that galloping rhythm requires a LOT of energy!

I have been told that this song has become more prescient since I wrote it, but I honestly believe that the story of Robin Hood will always resonate as long as people yearn for some kind of social justice. This is kinda the point of the song; that while he may not have been a real person, the legend of Robin Hood is immortal. And really fucking cool.

Lyrics:

You’ll be lazing in your manor when he’ll burst in through the door

he’ll take all of your money and he’ll give it to the poor

take your fancy clothes but leave you rags to keep you warm

He’s the sign of a coming storm

CHORUS

All the common people cheer

This is the dawn of saner years

All the greedy will know fear

Now Robin Hood is here

Now I have heard a lot of nonsense spoken about him

I even heard it said he pledged allegiance to the king

but in my heart I know that Robin Hood did no such thing

Robin Hood did no such thing

Now the powerful and wealthy will lecture you with glee

remind you Robin Hood is just a work of fantasy

but legend will outlive their fortunes and their tyranny

Hooray for Robin Hood

<itunes:summary>Aaaaaaaaand I'm back! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

This weeks song has been in the repetoire for a few years now, and is a rare example of a song that wrote itself.

In fact, I don't think I could have avoided writing it; it forced itself from me like some kind of metaphorical lightning baby. Though ostensibly a sad song (there were tears at time of writing), it is truly life affirming to care about something (and someone) to such an extent, and in my numbest, most reclusive and robotic moments, playing it reminds me that I am a squishy humanoid after all.

Eek is one of my proudest moments, lyrically, and I would love to record it with a full band one day!

Lyrics:

I knew a girl, she knew me
socially, not biblically
but we were very close
she said she liked me most
and the talk was so free
interrupting the TV
the talk was so free

I remember laughter in a near deserted bar
and thinking, 'How can you not know how wonderful you are?'
and feeling like a planet orbiting a star
before gravity smothers its heart

She came to see me before her flight
we drank a lot of vodka and we talked all night
avoiding the mines
deployed between the lines
as we discussed, how the world is so unjust
just so unjust

Her ticket was booked, I knew when she'd depart
but somehow when she said goodbye it almost broke my heart
I had not prepared
I guess I was just scared
Oh so frightened to face
such an ugly waste
a hideous waste

Are we just good friends or did we lead each other on
We have so much in common but the timing was all wrong
The moments we each cried
did not coincide
Yeah, she'd wept for me once
she beat me by a month
but once was enough</itunes:summary>

		<itunes:summary>Hello again!

Time for another cut from my 2007 Christmas single; this time a cover of the classic carol, 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen'. We had a lot of fun putting this track together (as you can probably tell from listening to it) and it really captures a moment for me: a moment of fun, Christmassy chaos!

I hope you enjoy it, and that all your Christmasses are white!

<itunes:summary>Pre-emptive seasons greetings one and all!

With Christmas looming on the horizon like a moon sized pudding, I thought I'd upload the first cut of my 2007 Christmas single for your listening pleasure.

Me and my friend Mike recorded this in our house in my third year of uni, and gave it away to our friends as an alternative christmas card. I still receive messages from friends who have just listened to it around this time of year, so why not introduce it to a whole new audience? It really is the gift that keeps on giving. TO ME.

I hope your last few days of work aren't too arduous and will see you again in a couple of days with more Christmassy music!

Yours,

Trembling Jack Luster AKA Andrzej Stepien

Lyrics:

It's that time of year again when we
meet distant family
pretend to know each other

Line of aunties kiss my cheek and then
say I've grown again
say I'm slim and handsome

It's Christmas Time
I hope yours was better than mine

Angel sitting on the Christmas tree
gazing down at me
gazing down with pity
as sitting round like animals we feed
give presents no-one needs
what a waste of plastic

It's Christmas Time
I hope yours was better than mine

Hollow isolation in my gut
all the shops are shut
I am feeling lonely
Now I'm hanging like the crucifix
dying for your lips
dying for you slowly

It's Christmas Time
I hope yours was better than mine

There goes another year
I hope you are happy

It's Christmas Time
I hope yours was better than mine</itunes:summary>
