I promise not to shout about these ones quite so much. Today's delicia is a sneak peak at my current recording project: a concept album! I have the songs written (there will be some old, and some new), and it will tell a story of sorts. I'm really quite excited about it; I'll be recording the drum tracks with Tony from The Lost Clauses over the next few weeks, and from then I will start layering things up. I am determined that it sound epic, and to this end I have started composing brass parts. It's been a new and interesting experience, but those are the experiences that really enhance one's understanding of the craft. All about pushing in new directions. This weeks song has been in the repetoire for a few years now, and is a rare example of a song that wrote itself. In fact, I don't think I could have avoided writing it; it forced itself from me like some kind of metaphorical lightning baby. Though ostensibly a sad song (there were tears at time of writing), it is truly life affirming to care about something (and someone) to such an extent, and in my numbest, most reclusive and robotic moments, playing it reminds me that I am a squishy humanoid after all. Eek is one of my proudest moments, lyrically, and I would love to record it with a full band one day!
