I got a new tattoo over the weekend. I decided to take my son Micah with me so i could talk to him about the significance of the tattoo i was getting. He also wanted to get the stencil of my tattoo put on. so here is some video we took and the pictures!

Dont complain about caches

Ok guys if you are a geocacher i am sure you have you have heard people complain that they cant find cretin caches because they need special equipment like they cant find wherigo because they dont have a garmin that plays them or they cant find a new chrip cache (which is marked as a unknown cache anyway) because they dont have a garmin. Sometimes people say “they should ban LPC’s because they are lame. Guys if you dont like a kind of hide then dont find them. there are plenty of other caches out there to find. If there are not and there are only LPC’s then go place some.

I dont hear those same people complaining about scuba caches or mystery caches that they dont know how to solve. So i am not sure how this is any different. it still comes down to the fact that you dont have the right tools to find a cache. Oh well. Man or Woman up and create more caches of the kind you like. This hobby is so diverse. Let it be diverse!

Last Saturday night Julie and i were watching the news when we saw a news story about a tattoo shop in Elkhart that was donating all the proceeds from Sundays tattoos to Church Community Services Church Community Services is a faith-based interdenominational non-profit agency that assists people in crisis and empowers them to move out of poverty. Services include a client choice food pantry, emergency financial assistance, plus our Soup of Success Job and Life Skills Training Program which empowers women in poverty to make positive changes toward greater self-sufficiency. We also offer public education on poverty. We had been looking to get a tattoo with our kids names on it or something. So we both said to each other. That is an awesome idea. I have never seen a tattoo shop do that. That is about as far as it went.

Sunday we were sitting around watching a movie with our kids, I looked at Julie and said. “Man that is tempting. I really want to go get a tattoo”. I have three other tattoos Julie has none. So we started talking and decided to do it. We called Julie’s sister to come watch the boys. we just told her. we were going out for lunch or something. The boys didnt even know.

So we started designing what we wanted and came up with two stars and a heart with each initial in it. We both got it on our ankle.

The shop raised about $1,500 that day for Church Community Services. How amazing is that.

10! Years Of Geocaching

This weekend Geocaching.com celebrates 10 years of geocaching.Wow it has really been 10 years. Personally we have been caching for 7 Years. We started on July 28th 2003 (my birthday)

Looking back it has been a blast we have gone places that we would have never gone if it were not for geocaching. It has been a blast watching the kids find stuff and trade stuff, Even placing “caches” around the house with what ever they can get their hands on. Wow not only do i geocache but i spend a good amount of time talking about caching on the geocaching podcast. It is because of geocaching that I have this fun hobby of podcasting.

We started caching in 2003 and we are not the fastest cachers. As of this point we only have 444 finds. But then again we do it for the hunt and the memories not JUST the numbers.

This weekend we are attending a geocaching event and it should be a blast. There are several geocaching events across the US this weekend celebrating that 10 years ago President Clinton turned off selective availability and our GPSr went from 100m to 10 m in accuracy.

Julie is in California right now taking her sister to school. Then she is spending time with a family friend. She is only gone one week but wow it is strange how only 3 days into this trip and how much i miss her. It has been real good to be able to spend an extended time with the boys but strange how quickly i miss her and just how much i didnt realize just how much i love her untill she is not around every day. Sorry if i have taken you for granted julie. I love you.

I am getting old

This new years was like no other for me. I realized i am getting old. I couldnt even stay awake to watch the ball drop. I fell asleep 5 min before the drop and woke up after. I was so disappointed. I have ALWAYS stayed awake. But i got over it the next day. I have to apologize to my wife. I was mean to her when i woke up.

No sleep

Last night Micah didnt want to go to sleep. He just kept playing around in his room. Finally he went to sleep. Then about 2:30 eli woke up and wouldnt go back to sleep. finally we moved him to our room floor and and after a while (about 3:30 he fell back asleep) Then about 4:30 Micah came in to our room and wanted to sleep in bed with us. but guess what. You can sleep on the floor so he did. So need less to say then at 6:00 i had to get up and get ready for work. I am tired today. The silly thing was that just that morning i was saying to Julie how it was nice that the boys were sleeping all night again! that will teach me to say anything

New Rules For The Fair

Yesterday my wife and kids went to the county fair with my sister-in-law Mindy. See the fair is kinda a big thing around here. Infact so big is is the 2nd or 3rd largest county fairs in the USA. I like just watching people interact with other people however I realized while i was at the fair enjoying my Fair food and kiddy rides some new rules that need to be in place. If you go to the Elkhart county 4-H fair please follow the following rules

Remember you are not the only one walking. Dont just stop there are people walking behind you.
The walkways are not places for your friend reunion. If you must stop and talk to your friend you have not seen since last fair please find a nice spot in the picnic area to sit down. It makes catching up a whole lot more fun for all
If it is raining remember you have a 3 foot extension on the side of your head called an umbrella. Lets not poke peoples eyes out with it
Walk with the same rules that you drive with. Stay on the right side. If not i WILL run into you.
If you must stop to talk moove to the side of the road quickly and also turn around first to make sure there is no one right behind you.
If it is raining out dont stop just inside the barn and try and dry the rest of the way off while the rest of us and our kids are standing outside getting sick in the rain.

That pretty much summs up the rules. If you can think of more rules please feel free to add them as comments to this post.

Cache Run 2009

We decided to do another cache run this year. We are doing our run tomorrow. It has been two summers since we did a run. we decided that it was far past time. So we decided to raid the same area again. Last time we went to Ft. Wayne Indiana an hit 52 caches. This time we are aiming for 75.

We have mad some change to help us accomplish our goal. This year we are pre-planning our route. From cache to cache to cache we know what is next. This took the most time last year. we have 88 caches in our route hopefully we can hit at least 75

We are starting our run at 7:30 and running late. we dont have an end time

Mean Cachers

Geocachers are normally nice people. That said we have seen a few bad apples in the bunch. Last night I got home and checked my email and saw that someone logged our Lets Go For a Walk Grandma as a DNF. There have been DNF’s on it over the last couple of months. Infact i was going to go out and check on it this week. When i looked at the log the person was very mean. “Its obivious it is gone. why hasnt this been disable to save peoples time from hunting something that isnt there” I shot an email back to them. This is becasue just becasue several people cant find it dosnt mean it isnt there and i was actually going to check on it this week. Then i also saw another log he posted on a cache of mine. He logged a micro that i have that is near a water way and kind of in the woods and it is a micro. He commented that there is no reason to put a micro in the woods especially when there is so much trash. You know what. The cache is a freaking fishing bobber so that was the perfect place for it. I dont like micro’s in the woods either but if they are warented then yes. I guess i am just venting. Please cachers be nice in your logs and the way you talk to other cachers. We are people too!

Tracphone and Email to SMS gateway

I have a Tracphone and last night i wondered if they had an email to SMS gateway. So lets say i sent and email to xxxxxxxxxx@tracphone.com i would get an sms on my phone. So i jumped on google and did a little search. what i found out was this. Tracfone outsources it network to other national providers. If you can figure out what provider yours is you can use their SMS gateway. However there is not a way to go to your phone and figure out what provider you use. However there is a way. What you will need to do is send an email to the following email addresses with your number before the @ sign

Wow i just realized that it has been a while since i have blogged. There really hasnt been much that i have felt the need to blog about. Untill now!

A couple months back i put a job application in to a local company to be their network admin. Didnt think much would come of it. Infact some time passed and i even forgot that i sent the app in. Then I got an email from the owner of the company that i should call him about a job interview. I did right away.

He didnt answer my call so i left a message. Finally he called back and wanted to do an interview. So i took some time off of work went in and interviewed. I had a good feeling about it. Sort of like when i interviewd at Newmar.

A week or two went by and then they called me back. Wow i didnt think i would get a first call let alone a second call. I was excited. I started to really want to get out of my current job. I went to the second interview. I got to see their servers and all the cool stuff. The interview went well. I interviewed with the VP and one of the I.T. guys. When i left the VP said “just to let you know a job interview is about two things, skill and personality. I think your a great fit and are better than the other people. We still have interviews on thursday and friday.

So i go home get realy excited about it. I know the pay is better and it is close to home. I couldnt help but think about how great that would be. The job would be a lot of learning but it would be worth it and i could do it. I left feeling that the other two interviews were more of a formality and they would be contacting me soon to offer me the job.

Thursday and Friday go by so i know they have done the other interviews. A week goes by i havnt heard anything. On thursday i send the VP an email asking “just wondering the status of the job.” I hear nothing thursday or friday. I am starting to doubt but i know how long this process has taken and how sometimes they are not on the ball with things.

Monday rolls around and about 4:00PM i get an email that says call me on my cell phone after 5. My heart skips a beat or 3 and i email Julie and tell her. We are excited. I figure out how much i would need to have them offer me to be worth it. I get out of work and right away call him. Ring….Ring…Ring…VOICEMAIL. So i leave a message. I try a few other times on my way home. Same thing. I get home and i call him. Ring…Ring…Ring…VOICEMAIL. So i just wait. About 6:00 my phone rings. I jump up and run to the back room of our house so it is quiet and i say “Hello” and i hear “well we have good news and bad news” my heart sank. “We filled the position on Friday however in the process we realized that we need to add another person to our I.T. Staff. We dont expect you to wait on us. It will be sometime this summer when we create the position. And you will most likely be hearing from us this summer.”

I know i could have done that job. I know there is something out there better. But what? Why am i at the Job that i am at still. Dont get me wrong i am glad to have a job. Especially when a lot of people around here dont. God i know you know. El Roi

Blood

This past friday i was driving from my parents house to work and it was so icey i saw so many cars slipped off the raod. above you will see a screen shot of the track log and my avg speed and how long it took to go 1.5 miles. The good thing is i did have my gps with me the reason this was good is because when i turned left there i had no idea where i was going but i told the gps to get me to work and it did gotta love GPS

Geocaching

It is funny when you get use to a GPSr it takes you a while to get use to a new one. I have been trying out the the Delorme PN-40 and while i do like most of the things on it there are some things that i dont like. I will talk about that on a future show of the geocaching podcast. It is strange to get use to a new gpsr company and the way they do things. I am a Garmin man threw and threw (as seen from the screenshot from my 76csx on the right). But it is fun to get use to the new things. On christmas we are going down to my parents place and then friday i have to come back and work and then drive down to there again. So i am going to try and take some time and cache also! we will see how that goes.

Giving Blood

Furnace

This year we have been trying to keep our furnace off as long as possible. Today we realized (as it is getting cold) that our furnace isnt working. The gas is dispensing but the furnace isnt firing. So i think tonight we are going to stay at the inlaws. This just comes at a bad time. I know that it will be ok however it is just a bad time. Tomorrow is when the furnace guy is comming out.

I was hired on to do helpdesk support from noon to 8:30 pm and when I started my boss introduced me to the crew and said my hours for now were noon to 8:30. Since I was hired there was a new person hired too. He got 6-2:30 ok what ever. Right after this I sent an email to my boss asking him for new hours when some came available. Right after that someone got fired. So they just hired a new lady and guess what she has 8:00 – 4:00 GRRRRRRR. I am trying to stay positive however it is hard. Yes I am glad for a job.

Last night while I was at work Julie and the boys went to our small group. Micah saw one of the other guys from the back and said really excited "Daddy" then when he realized it wasn’t me his face turned from excitement to disappointment and sadness came over him. Julie said that he clung to her for about 45 minutes then. This breaks my heart. I would love to be off this shift from noon to 8:30 I miss so much of what is happening with my family.

Today when Courtney got to our house to drop off her son she told us that they got word that a person in the church that we use to go to passed away last night. He had a heart attack. He was fairly young. It is just so weird when someone dies that is unexpected like that. It makes you remember that death can come at any time. Don’t expect that you will be around tomorrow. Please say I love you to your kids and spouse tonight

Julie and I gave blood on saturday and then we went on a geocaching date. We found 8 caches. We were successful. we didnt have any DNF’s. it was a lot of fun. I love caching with my family kids included but it is a whole differnt thing with the kids. It was nice to just hang out with my wife. find a few caches. No worries about pulling all the kids out of the van. We hit some very interesting caches.

I twittered this morning that I should blog but I have no idea of what to blog on http://twitter.com/jeepin_idaho/statuses/943574113 said that I should blog on Christmas lists. So here it is. This year I don’t really have a Christmas list and the answer to why I don’t is a simple one. I really don’t NEED anything. Christmas shouldn’t be about what I want. It should be about me wanting to give stuff to other people. Nothing feels better than if you help someone in need. Yes I am getting some stuff for my kids and wife. But I don’t want anything. I just want to be able to help people who are less blessed as me

This weekend

This weekend we went to my parents house. We had a fun time. We did some caching and hit 7 finds and 2 DNF’s on Saturday. On Sunday we went fishing. I caught one carpe. Not sure how I did that. They are not worm eaters but I did…It got away but that is ok because we wouldn’t be good eating. We caught several Blue gill. I caught a 15 inch bass and Julie caught 2 14 inch ones. We had some good dinner of fish last night. We had a great weekend. We should go there more often

Camping

This weekend we went camping. Wow that was fun. We went to chain o lakes park and camped. The boys loved it. The funny thing is on Friday night Eli woke up in the middle of the night and was crying and a pack of coyotes started howling. It was actually quite entertaining. Saturday we went boating and did a little caching…well we tried to cache but failed on Saturday. I only had the Garmin 76csx and I had all the cool codes for the waypoint like GCNUM FFFF TRN which would be the GC Number. The last four logs i.e. Found Found Found Found. Then Type and Size and bug(yes or no) and the most caches in the park were RUN which was Earth Unknown and no bugs. I forgot that R was earth so we were looking for a box….not good. And Julie always says I need a cheat sheet for the waypoint names. And she is right! So then on Sunday we did find a cache called "Timber Of The Possum" waypoint GCK0W6. it was a good cache. We had our friends Joel and Jackie with us and this was their first cache.

Job hours

So I finished my first day working the afternoon/evening shift. It went ok. It nice to have the morning with Julie and the boys. However it was kind of strange just getting home and then having them go to bed. It was also strange last night going home and it being dark when I left work. I don’t think the evening shift will bother me as much as I thought. I mean I will still be able to see my family. As far as the social aspect…oh well.

It is Friday. Its kind of dreary outside. It is raining and there really isn’t much going on. I am glad it is Friday. Not much going on but it is Friday. Next week I start my normal shift here at work! It will be Noon – 8:30 PM. My co worker is like a drug dealer (not literally) but yesterday he convinced to buy lunch from this Mexican place. WOW it was good. No idea what I was actually having but it was good. It was eggs and steak and some sort of salsa and avocados and wow good. Today he is like are you sure you don’t want something from Fernando’s the cheese burger is awesome and I said not today and he said are you sure…..

Ok so I am trying to update my blog from work via email. It should work. I have email. So we will see. Today so far has been better I haven’t lost any calls. So that is good. Julie and the boys still aren’t feeling well. Micah threw up yesterday. Eli is still running a temp and Julie just doesn’t feel right. We might not be at group tonight it just depends on how the day went. We don’t want to infect anyone with this junk. So we will see.

I would hate it if i called a call center for something and the person i was talking to hung up on me. Yesterday at work i hung up on at least 5 people. I got them all called back but that wasnt the point. I still hung up on them. See here is the problem i have two ways to *put them on hold* i can do just that put them on hold and to get them back off hold i need to push the line button that they are on. or i can just mute the line. and to get them off that i just push the mute button however if you forget they are on mute and push the line button it hangs up on them. Yeah i kept forgetting. I need to remember how i have them *on hold*. We will see how today goes. it is 8:25 and i am about to go on the phones again

First day on the phone

Today was my first day on the phone at the new job. wow it was interesting. I didnt have too much trouble. I was nervous right before i went live, but all was ok. I only had one person who was hard to deal with and that was due to the fact that she said that she didnt have any time for me to try and figure it out. oh well now i know how to fix it. i think. we will see tomorrow

Today was the first day on the new job. It was good. However the
helpdesk there moves so fast sometimes you don't have time to finish
one and a new one starts. I think that once I get trained I will be ok

So we attended Midwest Geo Bash the other week. It was good to meet the names i have seen either due to the caches we have hit or threw the podcasting community. And also catch up with old friends. Oh and it was good to go caching to with the family. and also hook up with floating spots for one cache. I hope to make it to more mega events. Also on our trip we got to hit several caches.

yesterday i picked blueberries for the first time. it was fun. I think we ate more blueberries than we put in our bucket. We got there and they give you a bucket to strap to your waist and put the berries in. There is something about picking berries right off the bush and then eating them. it is just cool how god provides. you dont think about it until you actually see it that all the fruit and veggies that you eat are actually grown. what is cool is when you grow or pick them your selves because you have even more of a connection then. and feel like you worked for your food.

So it is starting to sync in. I dont have a job. I dont have my cell phone anymore because that was from work. I still have my laptop. I talked them out of that. however i think oh i should tweet. and i cant because i dont have a phone. I am not worried about finding a job i am more worried about. I know that i will get a new job soon. It may not be in IT but it will be something. I also know that a it job will come soon. I am sad that i cant go on the road trip. I was so looking forward to it and now i cant. even if i get a job i wont have vacation time so i wont be able to just ask off. oh well.

So my fears were right. I was laid off yesterday. This is the first time in i dont know how long that i havnt had a job. And so the search begins. I know that i CAN get a job at this machine shop. its not what i want to do but it is a job at least for now while i can continue to look for another job.

Worried

Some may have seen my post on twitter “worried”. This is why. Newmar (the company i work for) announced layoffs and so far it is only production. However i heard that some other people are having pay cuts. That is something that i just cant afford right now. I am glad to have a job but at the same time i am skimping by barley i have already cut out all of the non necessities in life. I dont know how much more i can cut out. I know it will get better and i know that God has everything in his hands but at the same time all i see is tough times!

Yesterday was our 4 year anniversary. I found the best place to eat. It is called TheVine. They are Italian. I had some good Cajun shrimp and a pino noir. Julie had some other pasta thing. Of coarse i didnt just want to drive there and eat so i gave her the coordinates and made her get us there. It was a good dinner and then we went back and picked up the kids. It was nice to have a nice date out. I think that the vine is our new favorite dinner place

New Cache and a DNF

This weekend my mom was in town so we took the boys for a walk. This provided a perfect time to place a new cache in our “Lets go for a walk” series of caches. We walked from The Mill race down to Tommy’s Kids Castle and we placed this cache on the way. We called it lets go for a walk Grandma.

Last night i saw a cache published close to work. put it on the watch list and this morning no one had found it so i decided to go for it. Got there and searched a little bit. It is by a business. Then a person on a scooter came up and kinda chased me off i got in my car before i was confronted however they stopped moving once i left. so i am thinking this might not be the best place for a cache. click here for my DNF log.

This past year our company laid off some people and i was working like 47 hours. They told me that i can only work 40 hrs. Ok that makes it hard for us. Today the summer help started and he is doing IS helpdesk work. I thought that i couldnt work more than 40 but they are hiring someone else…grrr. I need a new job.

This weekend should be good not much going on. Tomorrow i am helping my grandpa pick up some mirrors. Why you ask…because my mother bought mirrors from habitat…so we need to pick them up

I havnt been treating julie like she deserves…and it is the little things…the actions that i take….my attitude….I have also found that i dont spend enough time with God and i make an excuse as to why. And i dont want to do that.

Locked out

So I am just sitting here in the driveway blogging on my phone. Why am I blogging on my phone in the driveway. Well glad you asked. We were at the inlaws today and I was going to come home and work on my resume and the dishes. Julie was going to go to the store with the boys and her mom so she took the van and I took the inlaws car. Almost home and I remembered my keys were in the van and the garage code opener is out of batteries. So I thought while I am waiting for julie I would blog.

Sunday services are going well. I am enjoying doing the podcasts. http://podcasts.exodus-community.com I realy enjoy the community that we have there it is real and I miss it when we are gone for the weekend. That is how community is suppose to be right. I know that each and every exodus person cares for me and my thoughts.

Other things we were planting our garden this today for this summer. There is just something about growing your own food. Inafact it would be great to grow our own beef too but since we can’t do that we will just grow food in the garden. It is cool to see that god helps grow the stuff your eating.

Weekend sum up

This weekend i went with exodus community pastors to Grand Rapids Mi to the Dominican center. On friday night we got there at about 8:40 and then went out to eat at Uchellos then we went out to Founders Brewery. After that we went back to the place we are staying at. we got up at 8:30 on saturday and we had our massages. (click to see the one i had) and we also had time to pray. Then we had our time of planning. then about 3:00 we went for lunch at san chez where i got to drink some smoked lapsang tea. then we went back and had more planning. then about 9:00 pm we went back to dinner at red robin then went to finish watching the game at Buffalo wild wings. then on sunday we went to mars hill for church then IHOP for lunch then went home…it was a good weekend

Why is a church’s success (if that is what you want to call it) is based on how many people you have attending your meetings. I was talking to someone on the phone today who knew that we helped start a church and they asked…hows the church going. I knew he was asking “How many people do you have?” so i made a point to not say…i just said it is going well…then he said. “how many people do you have?” I almost said it isnt about how many people that we have that makes it successful but i didnt. i told him.

I have seen way to many BIG churches that have no depth to them but they have the numbers. numbers dont make the church!

what are you thoughts on this? do you feel the same as i do? if so what do you say to people when they ask hows your church doing. meaning size, give me numbers!

I have tried other services before that you can use to send big file. they require you to sign up then they spam you with spam. I have found a service that is better. thanks to darrylw4 it is called drop.io what makes it cool is you dont have to sign up for anything. you just put upload your file. then you can set all sorts of cool stuff. think of it as more a place that work gets done. you can call in audio you can email it fax it. upload it widget it. it rocks. you can even tell it when you want your space to expire so it deletes it….

Justice and injustice

When thinking about injustice that goes on in the world. we must do something, but what There are so many things out there good worthy causes. but what can we do i dont know anyone in most of the other places in the world that there is injustice going on with. And there are so many. I have been trying to figure out what to do. I think we need to take the stance that xxxchurch.com has. They say there goal isnt to eradicate porn from the world. That isnt going to happen. They want to educate people on the dangers of porn and help them out if they want. Same thing with injustice. I dont think that you can expect to eradicate the world of injustice. It just isnt going to happen. I need to find something i am called to do to help out.
