With Manchester City failing to beat Sunderland yesterday Liverpool’s title dream is getting closer to reality with every passing day.

The Reds have some tricky must win fixtures ahead starting with Norwich ,a home fixture against Chelsea ,away to Crystal palace and will wrap the season welcoming New Castle United to Anfield.

Even though winning is all that matters during this stage of the season Rodgers wants his players to play the best football and remember the class and traditions of the club as they bid to win a 19th top-flight crown.

We will try to do it in the right way – I take great pride in winning in the most sporting way we can,” Rodgers

“If you look at us we are top of the Premier League and we are top of the Fair Play League. We don’t surround referees. We want to win, but it shows you a mark of our behaviour.

“They are the values of this club. It’s a club that has won many trophies in the past but had the humility and the class. One word I always had in my mind when I joined Liverpool is ‘class.’ So that is important to me – that those values are restored.

“I believe you can’t affect refereeing decisions. Absolutely. There will be little bits of luck that go for and against you but I like to think as a sporting team and a team that’s trying to work well we’ve got our rewards this year.

With topping the Fair play league and playing some of the finest football scoring 100 plus goals Liverpool are worthy winner of the Premier league medal if they manage to pass the next four hurdles.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard wiped away tears at the final whistle on what was an emotional day for everyone connected with Liverpool football . Anfield remembered the 96 fans who lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster 25 years ago and Manchester City were beaten 3-2 at Anfield inspired by Liverpool’s Captain fantastic Steven Gerrard who was at his brilliant best in the middle of the park.

“Emotional. Emotional, but we need to keep calm,” Gerrard told reporters after the match.

“There’s still four big games to come but that meant so much especially when they got back into the game and you feared the worst at that point, but I think we showed today that we want to go to the wire, we want to go all the way.

“Nothing’s won yet, but that was probably the biggest statement we’ve made so far.

“That was the longest 90 minutes I’ve probably ever played in. I kept flashing back to how long the clock was taking in cup finals and big games I’ve played in before but it felt like the clock was going backwards at some points of that game.”

Liverpool started the match with a spine-tingling rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and as said it turned out to be one of Liverpool’s greatest victories in Premier league. With four games to go lets hope the Reds can keep the momentum and lift the title.

Agger missed last week’s 2-1 win against West Ham United with a knee injury, but returned to training earlier this week.

The manager told reporters

“Everyone is fit – Daniel Agger is back into the squad,” the Northern Irishman explained at his pre-match press conference today.

Indeed, the boss was able to report no fresh injury concerns as his team attempt to further consolidate their advantage at the Premier League summit.

Rodgers added: “Only Jose Enrique is out. We have 20 players fit and raring to go.”

Liverpool and Manchester City will face each other at Anfield on Sunday, a clash which can be termed as Liverpool’s biggest league match in 24 years.

The Reds are now two points clear at the top of the league with five games left — and if they win them all, they will be champions for the first time since 1990

Liverpool have scored 90 league goals, six more than City this season who ranks second in number of goals scored and hence the clash poised to be a cracker of a match with both teams focusing on scoring and getting ahead early on rather than sitting back and defending.

“We will see on D-Day who is better prepared to take the points. “Liverpool defender Sakho said ahead of the fixture

He added: “Of course this could be the biggest league match Liverpool have played in 24 years.

“It’s a match where you win three points — but it’s worth a lot more. It is a match that will place the winner in the best position to go and win the title.

“Ever since I arrived at the club, since the first month, I said it. I told my teammates that we are capable of winning the title. We have the quality and we just have to believe it.

“And voila — as the season progressed we saw Liverpool grow in strength playing such beautiful football.

“We’ve not stolen the position where we are today. We deserve it

West Ham united vs Liverpool FC

Date : Saturday, April 6, 2014

Venue : Upton Park

Kick-off: 16.00 BST.

Recent form

West Ham United: WLLLWW

Liverpool: WWWWWW

Referee: Anthony Taylor. Matches: 17, R2 Y59.

Liverpool will travel to Upton Park on Sunday afternoon looking to move back to the top of the Premier League after both their title rivals securing 3 points Manchester City beating Southampton 4-1 and Chelsea eased past Stoke City 3-0 later in the day.

Six more victories would guarantee the Reds their first championship for 24 years but it won’t be easy with fellow title chasers Manchester City and Chelsea both arriving at Anfield before a decisive-looking April is out.

On team news Liverpool has very few injury concerns and after their 4-0 demolition job of Tottenham changes are likely to be kept to a minimum.

As far as West Ham is concerned, George McCartney is a huge doubt as stated by the manager. Whilst Andy Carroll is fit to face his former side.

“Kevin Nolan is ok. George McCartney is the biggest doubt. He came off with a hamstring problem on Monday night. It’s probably caused by a bit of fatigue and the fact he played three games in a short space of time, so it looks as though he’ll miss out on Sunday”

Probable Starting XI

West Ham (Possible, 4-4-1-1): Adrián; Demel, Tomkins, Reid, Armero; Downing, Taylor, Noble, Diamé; Nolan; Carroll.

Liverpool (Possible, 4-1-4-1): Mignolet; Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Flanagan; Gerrard; Sterling, Henderson, Coutinho, Sturridge; Suárez.

Prediction: Liverpool 2 West Ham 1

Liverpool Boss Brendan Rodgers has praised Brazilian Lucas Leiva’s attitude in overcoming an injury which was initially thought to be a longterm one fearing the 27 year old would not be ready for the world cup .However Rodgers applauded his mentality and determination to force his way back into the Reds’ first team plans.

The Brazilian last appearance was against Aston Villa at Anfield, and was taken off in the 66th minute with a knee injury.

With Steven Gerrard playing the deep lying playmaker role the Brazil international has found himself out-of-favour over the past month, with Rodgers preferring to partner Henderson along with Steven Gerrard in the heart of the Reds midfield.

Rodgers also revealed Liverpool are playing with more attacking intent since Steven Gerrard took over as the sole deep-lying midfielder role, freeing up Coutinho and Jordan Henderson.

“I’ve got to say Lucas has been absolutely incredible in his attitude,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo. “It’s been hard for him because he played a high percentage of the games when he was fit and obviously then got his injury.

“The team has done really well in his absence. Steven [Gerrard] in that role is a world class operator. He has taken to it really well. The difference now is that rather than playing with two defensive midfield players we are playing with one. There is more emphasis on the attacking element.

“But I have to pay homage to Lucas because he’s been first class with his attitude and his work. He has made it known to me that he just wants to help whenever he’s called upon – whether it’s for one minute or 90 minutes he will be ready.

With Gerrard returning to his world class best playing the defensive midfield role, Do you think Lucas Leivas future is over at Anfield?

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season after the reds went top of the Premier League yesterday after thrashing Tottenham 4-0 at Anfield to take advantage on points dropped by main title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City

Carragher reckons there is a belief amongst the players and the fans that Brendan Rodgers’s side can claim a first Premier League title.

Manchester City, who trail Liverpool by four points have two games in hand and still remain the bookmakers’ favourites to win the Premier League

“I think Liverpool will win it now,” Carragher told Monday Night Football.

“The feeling before the weekend was ‘we’ve got a chance’, but those results and the intensity Liverpool played with on and off the pitch has changed that.

“I’m talking about the crowd, I’m talking about the Kop. You heard the roar at the end of the game and you know something’s happening.

“They are chanting for Brendan Rodgers throughout the game and I’ve never heard that before as much. They are normally singing Kenny Dalglish’s name or for Rafa Benitez a little bit, but it was all for the manager Brendan Rodgers.

“After this game there is a major belief that Liverpool will go on and win the league. There’s a banner in the crowd now: ‘make us dream’ and I think they’re making the supporters believe now.

“With the way they are playing – and the pace and energy they’ve got – it will be very difficult for Man City to go there and take three points.

“I can only see Liverpool winning that game.”

If Liverpool continue to play the remaining of the 6 games in the same intensity and desire then its pretty much safe to say the reds are the favorites to lift the league title.Make us dream.YNWA!!

Boss Brendan Rodgers has claimed Liverpool’s strike force Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are more like a ‘soloists than a partnership.

If the Duo manages to score 8 more goals in Liverpool’s final seven fixtures they become the highest scoring strike partnership in Premier League history.

Sturridge last night reached 20 goals in the league while Suarez is currently on 28 goals with one goal short of surpassing legend Robbie Fowler’s record

However, as many label them a deadly duo, Rodgers sees them in a different light.

“I’m not really worried [about the record],” Rodgers told Sky Sports.

“I’m more worried about a great Liverpool team. The two boys are special talents in their own right. They are both prolific.

“They are not a pair, for me. They are individual players that play up in a system that works very well. They’re soloists, they can combine, they do looks for each other but they are more individual talents who play up there.

“The most important thing for me is the team. As long as both of them contribute to the team, both with and without the ball, then hopefully they can both go on to become greats.”

Well looking at yesterdays match it’s quite obvious that Rodgers has given the freedom for both Sturridge and Suarez to try their luck and be selfish like a number 9.Suarez alone tried more than 6 long range shots against Sunderland while Sturridge was able to find the net once out of his 5 long range efforts, a stat in their standards can be termed as wasteful.

Though it worked against a struggling Sunderland yesterday, I believe Rodgers should make slight changes in the tactics how the duo work when it comes to big matches against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.

Liverpool will welcome struggling Sunderland to anfield today and will be looking to extend their winning run to 7 games in a row. A win for Liverpool will take them to second with just one point behind league leaders Chelsea.

Spanish left-back Jose Enrique and Uruguayan Sebastian Coates remains Liverpool’s only notable absentees while Sunderland have quite few injury worries ahead of the fixture with Keiren Westwood , Steven Fletcher out for the tie.

Marcos Alonso will also sit out of the fixture with a ban after receiving a red card last time out opposite Norwich, while Liverpool loane Fabio Borini will be unavailable as he is disqualified from playing against his parent club..

For Liverpool French defender Mamadou Sakho might replace struggling Daniel Agger for a first start since injuring a hamstring in December while Rodgers might also start midfielders Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho,to cause problems against an ageing Sunderland backline.

Possible Line-up Sunderland

Mannone, Bardsley, O’Shea, Brown, Celustka, Cattermole, Ki, Bridcutt, Larsson, Johnson, Altidore.

Liverpool continued their impressive winning streak to six games in a row after their latest 6-3 hammering of Cardiff City yesterday.

Suarez was at his brilliant best again on Saturday marking his third hat-trick of the season and with with just eight matches to play, Liverpool finds themselves firmly in the race for a first league championship since 1990.

With scoring 28 times in the league this term, firing second placed Liverpool to within four points of leaders Chelsea, the Uruguayan is on level with the record of “God” Robbie Fowler

Luis is a remarkable player who has terrific determination, desire and will and he gets his rewards. He is world class player who is enjoying his football,” Rodgers said.

“Look at the runs he makes and the determination to get himself back into position when he doesn’t get the ball.

“Daniel (Sturridge) also shows that great desire. He’s strong and he worked so hard to get into the box to get on to the end of Luis’ cross. The back heel for Luis’ goal was outstanding too.

“Wednesday will be a great night for us. We have five games at home and three away and for us it is about the immediate future.

“The fans can believe in dreams and when you see your side score six goals, you are allowed to do that.”

Defending seems to be the only problem with the Reds now and I wonder whether the carelessness at the back is due to the overconfidence the defenders have on the attacking capabilities of front duo Suarez and Sturridge. Even though it wont be much of a problem against the lesser sides,Rodgers should make sure Liverpool don’t take this attitude when they welcome the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City which are going to be crucial matches if they want to win the title.
