Adidas Japan Anthem Jacket - progress

Continuing with the Japan designs, and Adidas templates, here is the process sketches for my hypothetical Japanese anthem/walk-out jacket. Inspired by cool Japanese jackets with elaborate stitched patterns on the reverse. The type along the top is the name of the Japanese FA, and the bottom is the national side's nickname "Samurai Blue."

Mr Porter Football Club

Creating the visual identity for a football club that resembles the mrporter.com brand aesthetic was quite a fun task. Mr Porter love to play with humor so there was alot to play with. Classic football badges with interlocking initials was the first port of call as the Mr Porter typeface plays quite a strong part in the branding.

Added in the elements such as a blower hat and dickie bow with a football, and I think the classic football team feel is acheived. I created a couple of options, the below design of the gentleman with the ball face, is a play on the fact Mr Porter like to create an anonymous character.

This design has stemmed from a project I have been working on with striped football shirts for a brand I have recently began working with (more on that to follow)

These designs started off being inspired by Arsenals infamous 'banana shirt' voted ugliest shirt of all time (Thought I would try and resurrect that monstrosity and bring it to the 21st Century) With Man City's football kits being supplied by Nike next year I thought I'd give an Away shirt a try, Juventus' design is just to show a variation on how the design can work.

Mr Porter Bomber Jackets Feature

This week The Edit Bomber Jackets story I designed was launched online. It was a story that allowed me once again to introduce vector illustrations in the magazine. Something I once did before for a Car Shoes story.

The subject being Bomber Jackets allowed me instantly to look at manuals for Spitfires, and old fighter jets' manuals for inspiration. If you look at my football kit designs its easy to see my influence from illustrated car manuals.

With six Bomber Jackets to illustrate for, including brands such as Schott, D&G, Burberry, Private White, Givenchy & Sandro, it was cool to have variety in each of the designs. Making the task not only easier, but more fun, as each design and style was so different.

Below, is my initial cover page design (Clearly based on the old school manual designs) which was unsurprisingly rejected because it doesn't really show product. Also the final illustrations.

Angelo Trofa X Fabio Paolucci - Issue #3 Sneek

A couple of months back I announced that I was working on a collaboration with my good friend Fabio Paolucci, for my 3rd issue(which I aim to release at the end of March)

This is the final image I will release of the issue, which I think will be the best yet! Fabio is a whizz with the pencil, and can create photo-realistic images like I couldn't dream of doing, so he was the only choice for my Greek statue concept. Over the next couple of months, we will develop a series of bigger, bolder illustrations to go in the issue, so till then, enjoy, and spread the word.

Antique Watches Illustration

Monaco Marlboro Nike Design - Revisit

This is a re-visit of a design I did in 2009, Its one which I have been looking to update for a while (it also gave me a chance to tweak my template in time for issue 3) Its a design which I know would never happen, but always fascinated me.

Marlboro as a brand and package always made me think of the Monaco kit, so I thought, why not design a mash up of the two!

The artwork to the left is by Evan Hecox who is an illustrator whos style I admire greatly. And I think he's captured all the angles and the essence of the package I wanted in the design.

Man United / Newton Heath Nike 2013 Football Kit Design

This is something that I have been working on, on and off for my friend (and United fan) Krish. Inspired by the 'Busby Babes' shirt and the re-issue which is modelled by Ronaldo above.

The away is obviously a nod to United in their Newton Heath days, an iconic shirt that I think should be re-worn by United. Not only is it iconic but also because frankly, its much cooler than the standard white away shirt.

This is a special at the request of a friend who is a Chelsea fan, I couldn't resist...a perfect replacement surely for the ageing Ferdinand? *note: I'm not a Chelsea fan, and this is just for banter.

England Nike Football Kit Update

This is the update I have been working on in my spare time for what I had entered into the design football competition. I wanted to finish off the shirt design which I envisioned for the design. In these illustrations I wanted to show how there would be not buttons, rather a stitched front, creating a shirt look.

Inspired by the shirt of the 30s (as modelled above by Sir Stanley Matthews) - More on this design to come

Memory Lane Part 2 - Fiorentina Diadora Kit

Another design taken from my sketchbook from back in 2004. It's a Diadora template for Fiorentina, but you can see where the inspiration came from...*cough* Nike Total 90 *cough* abit of a crazy concept, but I tasked myself with not changing any of the design.

Looking back I do think (as with the previous sketchbook concept) what the hell was I thinking with that gradient!? But as I haven't designed anything with one *ever* since....and with Nike designing FC Barcelona's gradient kit, I kind of think "I did it first".
