On the heels of his recently released viral video 'Stayin' Live', Fortunato keeps the momentum going with his new video 'DiaTribe'. The track features production from Chuck Strangers, a member of New York's Pro Era label and best known for his work with Joey Bada$$. It also showcases emerging Hamilton, ON artist Good Apollo who's been creating a buzz online for his work with his production partner Spaceship Nick.

"I keep trying to find ways to uplift young artists in Canada" says Fortunato. "They're the future and when I was coming up in Toronto, the OGs offered little guidance. I'm trying to break the cycle." Good Apollo caught the ear of Chuck Strangers online "He had a really unique style so I sent a beat pack" said Strangers. "He told me he got a feature for one of the beats and that's when I heard Fortunato, he killed it!"

The next step was creating visuals, Fortunato didn't hesitate to enlist one of his go to directors Patrick Younger of RA Photo + Video. "Since Built For This, he's just been getting better and better" said Fortunato. "Patrick has done some of my most creative videos and iconic photos, and being a former rapper himself gives him insight that most video guys lack."

Shot on location in Hamilton, the video incorporates graffiti culture and also plays tribute to a city that is often overlooked in Candian Hip Hop. "Steel City is my home" says Good Apollo. "A lot of great artists have come from here, I just want to carry the torch."

DiaTribe is part of a 5 song EP from Good Apollo called The Art Of Words coming this fall.

With the pandemic hitting the music industry hard, many Hip Hop artists have had to put their projects on hold, but not Fortunato. One of the game's hardest working MC's is staying true to form, preparing for the release of a new EP with Newfoundland rapper Decay and blessing us with the premiere of the first single "Stayin' Live". The two met each other during Fortunato's Atlantic Antics tour of Newfoundland last year and have been working on music ever since. "when he jumped on the mic and started rapping the words to my song with Sean Price during my set, I knew we had something" Fortunato recalls.

Decay has been making a name for himself, winning the So You Think You Can Rap competition and touring with Evil Ebenezer. When asked about what it's been like working with Fortunato Decay said "It's been lethal working with the man rarely do you meet genuine artists' that you can develop a true friendship with beyond the mic."

Stayin' Live is also the name of their upcoming EP and it's entirely produced by Decay, featuring scratches by Sipset DJ Uncle Fester. When asked what makes this project unique Fortunato said "it's Toronto meets Newfoundland, I don't think there's ever been that dynamic in Canadian Hip Hop on a collaborative project" Decay told us " I consider us to be old school lyricists at heart but this EP will blend modern sound with a vintage vibe that all Hip Hop Advocates can fuck with!"

HIP HOP LEGEND JERU THE DAMAJA LIVE IN TORONTO

Toronto, June 5, 2012 --- Legendary hip hop emcee Jeru the Damaja (Brooklyn, NY | Gang Starr Foundation) will be performing in Toronto at Revival Bar (783 College Street) on June 11, 2012 (doors at 9pm).

Supporting acts will be a diverse roster of Toronto hip hop talent, including performances by hip hop duo Angerville, up and coming artist MC FÜBB featuring some of the best emcees from The Cypher, highly acclaimed emcee Relic over a live MPC performance by Juno-nominated producer Fresh Kils, and Calgary recording artist Dizzy. Music will be provided by DJ Xplisit throughout the night.

Jeru the Damaja

Born in Brooklyn, New York, hip hop emcee Jeru the Damaja aka the Dirty Rotten Scoundrel wrote his first rap lyrics at the age of ten. He began working with now world renowned DJ Premier and Guru (Gang Starr) in the late 1980s, and released his album The Sun Rises in the East (produced exclusively by DJ Premier), which is widely acclaimed as one of the best hip hop albums of all time. Known for his “hardcore conscious” style of rap, Jeru released The Wrath of the Math in 1996, earning him the title of “the saviour of hip-hop” by many due to his honest and straightforward critique of the state of hip-hop music and culture. He has since released three more albums and toured extensively and consistently throughout the United States, Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa. Between tours, he has collaborated with Grammy nominated UK group Groove Armada, DJ Cut Killa, French actor Doudou Masta, Japan’s DJ Honda, and Polish hip hop group Slums Attack.

Jeru the Damaja is currently working on a collaborative album featuring some of the best hip hop music producers and emcees from Poland and the United States, and his sixth official solo album is in the works.
