Die Bundesverfassung wird wie folgt geändert:

Art. 175 Abs. 2 ?7

2 Die Mitglieder des Bundesrates werden vom Volk in direkter Wahl nach dem Grundsatz des Majorzes gewählt. Sie werden aus allen Schweizerbürgerinnen und Schweizerbürgern gewählt, die als Mitglieder des Nationalrates wählbar sind.

3 Die Gesamterneuerung des Bundesrates findet alle vier Jahre gleichzeitig mit der Wahl des Nationalrates statt. Bei einer Vakanz findet eine Ersatzwahl statt.

4 Die gesamte Schweiz bildet einen Wahlkreis. Gewählt ist im ersten Wahlgang, wer das absolute Mehr der gültigen Stimmen erreicht. Dieses berechnet sich wie folgt: Die Gesamtzahl der gültigen Kandidatenstimmen wird durch die Zahl der zu wählenden Mitglieder des Bundesrates geteilt und das Ergebnis halbiert; die nächsthöhere ganze Zahl ist das absolute Mehr. Haben nicht genügend Kandidierende im ersten Wahlgang das absolute Mehr erreicht, so findet ein zweiter Wahlgang statt. Im zweiten Wahlgang entscheidet das einfache Mehr. Bei Stimmengleichheit wird das Los gezogen.

5 Mindestens zwei Mitglieder des Bundesrates müssen aus den Wahlberechtigten bestimmt werden, die in den Kantonen Tessin, Waadt, Neuenburg, Genf oder Jura, den französischsprachigen Gebieten der Kantone Bern, Freiburg oder Wallis oder den italienischsprachigen Gebieten des Kantons Graubünden wohnhaft sind.

6 Ist nach einer Bundesratswahl die Anforderung nach Absatz 5 nicht erfüllt, so sind diejenigen in den in Absatz 5 bezeichneten Kantonen und Gebieten wohnhaften Kandidierenden gewählt, die das höchste geometrische Mittel aus den Stimmenzahlen der gesamten Schweiz einerseits und den Stimmenzahlen der genannten Kantone und Gebiete andererseits erreicht haben. Als überzählig scheiden jene Gewählten aus, welche ausserhalb der genannten Kantone und Gebiete wohnhaft sind und die tiefsten Stimmenzahlen erreicht haben.

7 Das Gesetz regelt die Einzelheiten.

Als hoffnungsvoller Proto-Gemeinderat muss man, nun ja, seine Gemeinde überzeugen. Es hilft viel, wenn die Leute die Kandidatin oder den Kandidaten kennen, und sei’s nur vom Neujahrs-Apéro oder der lokalen Gewerbeausstellung. Gut machbar, was auch die große Zahl an parteilosen Gemeinderäten breit über die Schweiz verteilt zeigt.

Bei der Bundes-Legislative wird der Kreis größer, nun muss man eine Mehrheit im eigenen Kanton hinter sich bringen. Das heißt einerseits Klinkenputzen, andererseits Werbekosten. Den grünen Nationalrat Balthasar Glättli kostete es mindestens 85.000 Franken, andere sollen weit über 300.000 Franken für den Wahlkampf ausgegeben haben. Man hat’s, oder man hat’s nicht.

Im Schweizer Ständerat sitzt genau ein parteiloser Parlamentarier: Besitzer, Geschäftsleiter und Verwaltungsratspräsident einer Kosmetikfirma.

Auch wenn man im Dorf oder dem Stadt-Quartier von allen mit Handschlag begrüsst wird, ein paar dutzend Kilometer entfernt ist man, sofern man nicht bereits aus anderen Gründen eine «öffentliche Person» ist, genau eines: unbekannt. Und Unbekannte werden nicht gewählt.

So, und jetzt kommt diese lustige Initiative und verlangt in Artikel 4 einen gesamtschweizerischen Wahlkreis. Das sind dann nicht mehr 2.000 oder 100.000 Leute, sondern über 5 Millionen Wahlberechtigte. Ich mag ein Zyniker sein, aber ich bin mir sicher: Eine Mehrheit gemäß Absatz 4 erreicht man nur mit vorherigem Medienecho (ob positiv oder negativ) oder einem Haufen Kohle für eine schweizweite Werbekampagne.

Und das über vier Landessprachen, den so genannten «Röstigraben», das Gotthard-Massiv und das Stadt-Land-Gefälle.

Hohe Kosten, damit zum Beispiel ein Thurgauer von einer Kandidatin aus der Waadt überhaupt weiß, plus großer Zeitaufwand für persönliche Auftritte, damit die Wähler einen auch kennenlernen. Der Schluss ist meines Erachtens klar – das heißt Dauerwahlkampf mit potenten Geldgebern oder einem eigenen dicken Sparbuch im Rücken.

Vergleiche mit Wahlkämpfen für den National- oder Ständerat sind unsinnig: Viel kleinere Zielgruppe, gleiche Sprache, das Interesse von Regionalzeitungen statt «Blick» und «NZZ» wecken.

… und dann kommen Abs. 5 und Abs. 6 und legen die Hürde noch höher: Man wurde gewählt, lebt aber im falschen Kanton, wird also nicht Bundesrat. Das heißt für Kandidatinnen und Investoren Lobbyisten Spender ein größeres «Risiko», was zu höheren Kosten in der Werbung und mehr Vorort-Terminen führt. Man will das Risiko ja minimieren, auf einem der beiden letzten (deutschsprachigen) Plätze zu landen.

Die Schweizerische Volkspartei hat eben wieder ein neues «Extrablatt» an alle Schweizer Haushalte angekündigt, als Abstimmungsempfehlung. Die Kosten des letzten «Extrablattes» beliefen sich auf eine runde Million Franken.

Welcher Kandidat kann etwas Vergleichbares ohne dickes Sparbuch oder potente Geldgeber stemmen? Wie sehen dann im zweiten Fall die Abhängigkeiten aus? Wie sollen das bereits gewählte Volksvertreter parallel zu ihren bestehenden Verpflichtungen durchführen? Wie ein frisches Gesicht, ohne Job oder Firma zu vernachlässigen? Und das passend für potentielle Wähler aus dem französischen, deutschen, rätoromanischen und italienischen Sprachkreis?

Ich glaube nicht, dass damit die fähigsten Menschen unsere Regierung bilden würden. Heute wird der Bundesrat von «Peers» gewählt, stammen aus dem Umfeld, den die Wahlberechtigten, eben: kennen. Leute, mit denen man im Parlament zusammengearbeitet, vielleicht auch mal ein Bier oder einen Kaffee geteilt hat. Menschen, die die Wahlberechtigten einschätzen können. Ganz ab von Werbung, Parolen, geküssten Kleinkindern und einer stabilen Geldinfusion.

Ja, es ist nicht sicher, ob besagte «Peers» anbetracht möglicher Mauscheleien und Kadavergehorsam immer eine fähige Exekutive zu stande bringen. Aber aus den genannten Gründen bin ich der Meinung, dass diese Volksinitiative das (möglicherweise) bestehende Problem mit einem sehr viel größeren, realen Problem ersetzen würde. Deshalb werde ich am 9. Juni 2013 ein dickes, fettes NEIN in die Urne legen.

You saw the light: Aperture Priority mode is just shite, as it takes away control – your control over your creative decision. Same with Shutter Priority mode or, gods forbid, Program mode. You know that with anything but Manual, the camera will try to guess what you intended, measure the light and set one or more exposure controls automatically. Automatically! How could a computer know what you’re shooting? Canikosonic must believe you’re stupid!

So you wised up and have gone Manual mode exclusively. As a Real Photographer™, your goal is to expose correctly yourself, with nothing but ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. And it’s not even that hard, just make sure there’s no single triangle showing up in the viewfinder, neither ▶ nor ◀ on its own. Turn wheels or rings or press buttons until, depending on your camera, both and/or a dot appear, and you’ve got perfect exposure. Simple!

Chrissakes. Learn to use your camera’s exposure compensation, or go all the way and run around with an external light meter. And if you want to be really hardcore, buy a camera with no built-in meter. There’s uses for M mode, yes. But to simply copy what Satan’s Little Helpers aka automatic modes would have done, well, automatically, just to feel all rad? Sorry. No cookie for you.

Es ist nur all zu menschlich, dass man schwer zu erfassende Ereignisse mit Hilfe von Halbwissen (fast hätte ich „… von Vorurteilen“ geschrieben) begreifen möchte. Dass sich angesichts eines Schulmassakers gleich die halbe deutsche Medienwelt auf „Autismus, oder eine andere Persönlichkeitsstörung“ gestürzt hat ist jedoch auf mehreren Ebenen unglücklich:

• Nein, Autismus ist keine Persönlichkeitsstörung.
• Nein, Autismus ist auch keine psychische Erkrankung.
• Nein, Autisten „sind“ nicht gefühlskalt, noch „haben“ sie Probleme, Empathie zu Mitmenschen zu empfinden.
• Und nein, 100 dokumentierte Savants sind auch nicht dasselbe wie „weltweit 100 hochintelligente Autisten“. Während Asperger-Autisten gleichzeitig „oft“ Lernschwächen „haben“.
• Und ganz besonders nein, zum Zeitpunkt der dpa-Veröffentlichung und der nachfolgenden Verwurstelung durch Spiegel Online, Tagesanzeiger/Newsnet, Blick und BILD war keineswegs belegt, dass der Täter eine Entwicklungsstörung im Autismus-Spektrum hatte.
• Und ganz besonders² nein, eine Korrelation ist auch keine Kausalität.

Aber für die schnelle Schlagzeile scheint für zu viele Verlage journalistische Sorgfalt wenig zu zählen. Dann kopiert man lieber eine unbelegte Aussage aus der Agenturmeldung, streicht die Konditionalform und lässt die Praktikantin zehn Minuten im Internet nach „Autismus/Asperger“ googlen. Daraus macht man dann einen mehrspaltigen Artikel, der von weiteren Qualitätsmedien dankbar als Quelle für weitere Artikel aufgegriffen wird. Man macht eine Liste von „gefühlskalten“ Serienmördern und Amokläufern, und damit es fundiert wirkt kopiert man noch Passagen aus dem ICD-10 in den Artikel.

Und wenn man BILD heisst, macht man dann noch so etwas.

Sind das die unangenehmen Auswüchse des Newsticker-Journalismus? Oder der Versuch, mit griffigen, kompakten Schubladen die Welt erklären zu wollen? So ähnlich, wie es die „Sendung mit der Maus“ für Kinder macht?

Und wollen wir als Leser, Betroffene und Angehörige so abgespeist werden? Ist es sinnvoll, ein solches Unvermögen und Abschreibverhalten auch noch mit einem Leistungsschutzrecht zu zementieren? Welche Leistung? Minderheiten-Bashing und Volksverdummung, basierend auf einem Satz einer eingekauften Agenturmeldung sowie Abschreiben bei der Konkurrenz?

„War nicht so gemeint, Tschuldigung.“ Das hilft den Tausenden von Betroffenen und deren Angehörigen nicht weiter, wenn bloss die Schlagworte und das Misstrauen bei den Konsumenten hängenbleiben. Bezeichnend die Suchstatistiken bekannterer Autismus-Blogs, wie zum Beispiel hier bei autzeit gefunden:

Gratulation, Qualitätsmedien! Ihr rockt, hart!

Disclaimer: Ich bin nicht selbst betroffen, aber Angehöriger. Und ich habe die ganzen Artikel extra nicht verlinkt, noch mehr Klicks sollen diese Publikationen nicht erhalten. Wer nachlesen will kann sich bei den Aspergerfrauen der Linkliste bedienen. Auffällig ist so oder so: In den amerikanischen Medien, besonders in denen aus Connecticut, spielt das Asperger-Autismus-Gerücht kaum eine Rolle. Ein weiterer Spaltpilz in der Bevölkerung scheint dort unnötig zu sein, oder die Medien zeigen wenigstens ein modicum an Relevanzverständnis. Und gutem Geschmack.

Computer games are about killing things or collecting things, sometimes both at the same time. They also are a threat to adolescent minds, at least if you read too many press releases by politicians that studied too many Jack Chick cartoons. But then, there’s people that enjoy pushing the envelope without rocket launchers, Zombie hordes, or brainless Farmville grinding.

Bientôt l’été is the latest offering by Belgium-based studio Tale of Tales which I’ve mentioned quite often in this blog. Yes, The Path left a lasting impression. Sue me. But as much as I enjoy brainless hack-n-slays I love something that makes me go WTF? Something that makes me question whether we computer geeks truly understand what mighty tools information technology and the Wobble are, apart from ordering crap online, or tweeting about one’s lunch. Or killing Zombie hordes, but I digress.

Online, yes. Where Bientôt… really shines is in the encounters with random human beings who happen to play the “game” at the same time. It’s like a chat-room with predetermined phrases (and cigarettes). And as your counterpart is as much in the dark as you are, and has only collected a couple of phrases during the “game”, this makes for a both surrealist and suggestive conversation. And the outcome will determine whether and how you “progress”, and I’m not necessarily talking about a flock of dead seagulls.

Is there interactive art aside from weird installations in museums? Yup, there is, and as The Path suggested, Tale of Tales know what they’re doing. So if you like your gaming’s bees’ knees tickle your brains – and emotions – Bientôt l’été is where it’s at. And who knows? Perhaps there are Zombies in it somewhere, too. And if yes, you can be sure you won’t just stumble over them. You’ll experience it. I don’t think there will be any Zombies, but if there were you’d sure as hell think about what sad creatures they are and how to deal with zombification in your too humane life, or whether you’re supposed to be the Zombie, and what the fuck relationships have to do with it. Or something.

But let me look at the RAW processor market, as is, ca. 2012. You could just as well discuss video software, word processors, or kitchen appliances. The message is the same: If you need something, say, for supporting your beer habit or the cat or – gods forbid – a family, you’ll damn well make sure it will be around in the future and won’t push you into the Pony Level vendor lock-in. Unfortunately, just as a cook might need a replacement Kitchen Aid™ because there’s tons of specific add-ons in the drawer already, photographers may remain loyal to one platform. But there’s limits to loyalty, and the limit to end all limits is: will the bloody thing still be supported when I buy a new camera or computer?

Hasselblad releases one abomination after the other, and only gods know how long they’ll still support Phocus after bundling Lightroom with their bread-and-butter cameras. They’re primarily a hardware company, after all. Phase One might be idealists, but in the end, they too want to sell digital backs. MediaPro and CaptureOne are needed to push their hardware, to justify their “everything works with everything” approach. In the light of full-frame companies turning more and more into middle-format competitors, or other middle-format dudes besides Hasselblad bundling Lightroom, well. Where to invest your limited resources? And why, if you’ll make much more money from the 15 odd K for a new digital back than from a price/feature war on software?

Don’t get me started on Apple’s Aperture. Seriously, don’t. You’ll find all my answers to all possible “but …”s here, save the copious cussing.

And, well, then there was Lightroom 4. It’s bloated as hell, it’s from Adobe, but still: I want continuity, and I rather enjoy a non-destructive workflow. So here I am, foot-in-mouth firmly inserted.

Bugger this for a game of soldiers.

We also know it’s incredibly difficult to take a shot with a lens that doesn’t go from 14 to 400 mm. You’d have to walk closer to your subject, or further away – what a harebrained concept! You’re a photographer, not some bloody athlete! Carry around a selection of faster primes and switch them as necessary? Ridiculous. Hell, modern cameras crank up to ISO 128.000 or something! Hence, wide-open at f/3.5-8 is just the way things work™ nowadays. You bought your camera with its kit zoom, so that’s what the camera is all about, so it bloody well better deliver results fit to be put on billboards, and then scrutinised with a magnifying glass.

To make sure your money was well spent you compare 100% crops of black cats yawning in coal cellars. Even if you only plan to put photos on Facebook, graininess at a measly ISO 3200 is totally unacceptable. Your cat may not be the most interesting subject in the world, but you simply need to blow her up to fill your living room from end to end. In print, if you actually printed to such sizes, not using explosives. Err.

So it’s just natural you always look for the next camera to end all camera hunting. Working with what you’ve got, playing within (and with) its limitations? What for? The next high-ISO body has just been announced, and if you immediately put your now-crammy camera on eBay you won’t have too much of a loss.

For decades, photo-journalists and artists dealt with a maximum sensitivity of 200-800 ASA in colour, perhaps pushed to a very grainy 1600 ASA. But who cares about the likes of Steve McCurry, Martin Schoeller, or William Eggleston? Were they alive and kickin’ today, they wouldn’t bother with such laughable specs.

Oh, wait …

And now you defend your new-ish way of life with teeth, claws and the odd airborne pro-gamer mouse because Blizzard is fixing the game, making sure it plays the way they intended, without too many loopholes and bugs. Because, well, you don’t want to play a hack-n-slash, or Diablo, no, you want to play Farmville.

You bitch about the game developer removing bugs such as “you shall not walk over this weaponry” because, well, that’s what you play the game for. Reached level 60, beat Diablo @ Inferno difficulty? I.e. beat the game? No matter, you want to farm more and better gear so you can sell it for real money in the Auction House. Or because you enjoy running through the same “runs” again and again and again, hoping for the odd “Rare” or even “Legendary” drop from the same mob you already have farmed 42 times.

Blizzard says: “We don’t want people to farm bosses, we want them to play the bloody game” (paraphrased), and you moan about too few high-level items popping up after you’ve killed the same enemies again and again and again. You’re at level 60, killed Diablo in Inferno difficulty, The End™, but you still feel cheated because them monsters don’t deliver the goods, i.e. gear you didn’t need to finish the fucking game to begin with. Rather than replaying the game, you complain Act 3 isn’t “worth it anymore after the latest patch/nerf” as the items found in Acts 1 and 2 are on-par. Or whatever.

How about playing Act 3 because you enjoy playing Act 3?

But yeah, I understand. For you, Diablo III is like a job next to your day job. Farm lots online after getting home, sell the gear online, profit either monetarily or with a push to your self-esteem because you feel l33t. Blizzard nerfs your very existence, because you need to run through the same mobs again and again and again. You paid 30 Quid for the game, it simply needs to cater to your every whim, even though you’ve already spent 100 hours on it and, well, finished the bloody game.

Wait for the add-on, if you enjoyed Diablo III. If you didn’t find it too engaging, as you can’t farm enough, well – there’s always Farmville. I’m told there’s even a cow level.

So you think a rehash of a 30 years old lens design it worth a couple of thou more than what you’ve toted the best there is™, the ultimate sharpness in 50mm™? Fine by me.

Because I don’t really care.

I enjoy black-and-white photography, a lot. I also enjoy the Summicron even more; it’s reasonably fast in a small package. But dudes! What were you thinking!

I guess your thinking went along these lines:

“Well, they cough up no matter what we ask for, so, eh.”

But that’s the approach that killed Loewe, Grundig, Braun, and many other manufacturers. Their brands to be gobbled up by multinationals betting on sales due to “traditional” names.

But then, not to worry, you have not one, but two Hermès special editions at the ready! No Panasonic or Minolta will take you over, na, you‘re too cool for them sharks! You pamper your audience with calfskin leather, after all. Or Hermès is, for that matter. For people less inclined to Bling you make sure to feature the launch with a renowned BnW-only photographer. And Mr. Liefers, because Wagnerian TV pathologists are Teh Real Shit™.

(I should mention I really like what @JanJosefLiefers does, especially music- and Tatort-wise, but that’s just me.)

I might not care for your new products, but I do care about where you seem to be headed. I’m all for solutions that are out there, no worries. But, seriously, Leica – there’s a limit to bullshit even proverbial milk cows will take. And, personally, I won’t go moo just because you tell me to. Even though I love your stuff. Bugger.

Oh, wait. You just paid helluva lot for that wide-aperture lens, hence you damn well see the world at f/1.4 or below, so that’s fine. Pinpointing what matters™, highlighting it in gloriously shallow depth-of-field. After all, there’s the Bokeh to consider, the creamier, the better. Unless you bought a cheapo lens and the out-of-focus areas are kinda hard, in that case that’s the statement you truly wanted to make. The harsh reality outside of what normal people perceive. The human condition, rendered in two inches of sharpness, the rest in uncomfortable blur. You even got an ND filter to make sure you won’t get tempted to stop it down in brighter conditions. Because the shallowness is what it’s all about.

For example, how could the following photo profit from a stopped-down lens? Juxtaposing the mercantile marketing world represented by the discarded Coke can to newspapers ready for disposal? As a somewhat ironic comment? Are you bloody kidding me?

Yeah, that’s what you need f/1.1 for. Exactly this.

Na, the message is: the “% sodium” label sits in the same focus plane as the twine on the right. Because that’s what you can do with this fucking lens, that’s what it’s there for and what you’ve paid for. It’s huge, it’s heavy, it’s expensive. It’s irritating the manufacturer still bothers with aperture blades! Such lenses are made to be shot wide open, so you’ll do your damnedest to only use it wide open. Always. No exception. The Bokeh will make it a good image by default. No?
