ON JULY THIRTIETH KING COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL STARTED GETTING COMPLAINTS ABOUT
EXCESSIVE NUMBERS OF ANIMALS IN
UNSATISFACTORY LIVING CONDITIONS AT THIS HOME

<media:text>back to health in wood county after months of extreme neglect."i think its probably one of the worst cases we've seen in a long time. five horses were handed over after a raid on a home in wood county. sheriff's deputies and an officer from the humane society served the search warrant wednesday morning on a home on bays road, south of rudolph. there they found the sick dog and emaciated horses who had apparently not been fed for months.fox toledo's heather miller is live to tell us what's happening with the animals and whether the owners will face any consequences.a humane agent with the woo county humance society tells me she been seing a lot of animal abuse cases lately where people just can't afford to feed there pets, but this has to be one of the worst. she says if a tip wouldn't have led her to them they more than likely would have died. 33:16 "you could see their ribs and their sides were caved in."that's how authorities found these five horse. according to the wood county humane society, the horses had been put out to pasture for the past three months, with no feed or hay supplied by the owner because she was broke. 33"54 "it was a divorce situation and she claimed that the husand was responsible for buying the grain and the hay and i talked to him and he said he had no intention of doing so and she could do it herself and so the horses sufferend."the five horses are currently recooperating at a place called the healing barn... a non-profit horse rescue group based out of millbury.39:43 "they are very much underweight and malnourished. they've got some sores on them. they are quarentined right now as you can tell. and they'll be quarentined until the sores are all healed up. the baby is running a temp of 105 with a foul order coming out of her so we've go issues going on i don't think they realized."the good news is the healing barn says the horses have already put on weight and filled out since they arrived here yesterday. they will stay here until they have completly healed are are ready for adoption... but that will take time and money.41:47 "i'd have to say per hourse $300 to $400 to get them back to where theyu need to be and maintain them" if you'd like to help these horses... i've posted the information on where you can donate on our website, fox toledo.com.meanwhile, the horse owners signed non- prosecution agreements and will not face</media:text>

<media:text>a case of animal cruelty tonight. a passerby discovers a dog that was tied up and shot. dave d'marko has reaction from the dog's owner in a story you'll see only on 2. julianne whitacre thinks the shooting is retaliation for her dog getting loose. even though in some cases it is legal to shoot a dog on your property, authorities say this person might have taken things too far. <cc>"he was missing wednesday night about 8pm and we went looking for him."</cc> julianne whitacre loved her dog she went door to door in her springfield township neighborhood passing out 250 fliers which included a 750 dollar reward fo2 and a half year old murphy's safe return. but murphy was found along side of the road and authorities were called to investigate. "<cc>once i came out here and identified dog found some possibilities dog had been tied up and shot in the head." </cc> <cc>"i don't kn how anyone could shoot a dog in the head he's part of our family, you know he's part of someone' )s family how inhumane."</cc> whitacre says neighbors have threatened acts like this before if her beloved pooch were to get onto t property. but authorities say it could be criminal if they found the shooter already had the dog corralled, then decided to shoot and aim for the head. <cc> "to tie it up and actually shoot it is not the way you want to do it."</cc> <cc>"he is part of my family my heart is brok these people to know what he did to my family."</cc> the dog warden says anyone who finds a trespassing dog should call the owner if you can safely see tags... or the humane society if it appears to be a stray. live ddm</media:text>

<media:text>to call the erie county sheriff's office. also tonight.. we're learning new information tonight about a heartbreaking case of animal abuse in buffalo. news 4's rob macko brings us the latest.. rob. throughout the day on news 4, joe arena and lorey schultz explained how the dog was first discovered two days ago, but not picked up until today. tonight we have the autopsy results and tell you where the investigation goes from here. spca investigator michael armatys retrieved the dead dog friday morning after news 4 called the spca. ((michael armatysspca chief investigator - dog appeared like it may have starved to death. it was skin & bones.)) his initial suspicion was right. the spca says an autopsy friday afternoon confirms the three year old female lab-pit bull mix died of starvation. spca investigators are now actively looking for the person who left the dog in a cage beside a building on winslow avenue. ((barbara carrspca executive director - let's not forget we still have certain people in this community who really need to be brought to task for their lack of care for their animals. because it's illegal to abandon your animal and if we catch you, we will prosecute you.)) barbara holland says her associate called 911 wednesday when he saw the dog in the cage. the call was transferred to the buffalo animal shelter, but nothing happened for two days. ((paul sullivancity streets and sanitation director - the call came in from 911 but it was so badly garbled that we couldn't make it out.)) ((barbara hollandconcerned resident - that dog was moving around and barking in that cage wednesday morning, they told us not to go near it which i understood that, but come and take care of it.)) city officials promise to investigate the 911 system and see what went wrong. abandoning an animal is a class</media:text>

<media:text>this morning... it happened in the san carlos park area. kevin doerr is facing felony charges after shooting the bear twice and killing it. the man's family says the bear was walking toward it and doerr did it in self defense, however officials say the bear was not acting aggressivly at all. some neighbors say the homeowner was justified because he has three children who play in the yard. all of this comes on the heels of officials looking for another black bear seen digging thourgh dumpsters in south fort myers. black bears are not carnivores. and there's no record of a black bear attack in florida. if you see a bear call fish and wildlife at 1 888 404 3922. they will take care of the animal. the investigation continues this</media:text>

<media:text>GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE. I'M ROD WOOD. I'M CARRIE LAZARUS. GIVING UP AN ANIMAL IS NEVER AN EASY DECISION -- BUT NOW MORE CENTRAL NEW YORKERS ARE DOING JUST THAT. AND IT'S NOT JUST DOG AND CAT OWNERS-- BUT ALSO HORSE OWNERS. MORE AND MORE ARE TURNING IN THEIR ANIMALS TO AUCTIONS OR IN SOME CASES EVEN ABANDONING THEM AT LOCAL FARMS--SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD THE UPKEEP. TONIGHT OUR AUDREY WASHINGTON TELLS US-- HOW ONE ORGANIZATION IS TRYING TO HELP OWNERS IN NEED, KEEP THEIR ANIMALS. THIS IS THE CONDITION CANDICE CANGEMI FOUND--HER ADOPTIVE HORSE, GOLDIE IN AT A LOCAL AUCTION. her ribs stick out, her hip bones stick out. GOLDIE WAS STARVED BY HER OWNER. NOW CANDICE IS NURSING HER BACK TO HEALTH-- BUT SHE SAYS THAT STILL DOESN'T SOLVE THE MORE WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. were constantly taking in horses that need help, especially out the saddle barns, the auction barns, the starved horses, neglected because people can not afford to feed them. SO -- THE OSWEGO COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY STEPPED IN AND CREATED A WAY TO HELP FINANCIALLY STRAPPED OWERS OF NOT ONLY HORSES, BUT COWS AND GOATS AS WELL. AS PART OF "THE ANIMAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT"-- OWNERS CAN GO TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY AND APPLY FOR TEMPORARY HELP. we would provide assistance to the animal by providing hay, grain, possibly, some supplements maybe that sort of thing. in addition to food, the project also helps with vet bills. The owner of this horse had to sell him because he was unable to pay for routine care. that's a huge expense. Vet bills, to get their basic shots. My three horses cost me about 350 dollars. WHILE THE ASSISTANCE MAY BE TEMPORARY -- ANY HELP OWNERS CAN GET -- WILL HOPEFULLY HELP REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF NEGLIGENCE AND ABANDONEMENT CANDICE SEES MUCH TOO OFTEN. they're given a chance to say okay, I'm going to have help and I can keep my horse, he's not going to suffer, it's a win/win. AND A BETTER CHANCE AT SURVIVAL FOR GOLDIE AND OTHER HORSES LIKE HER. IN WEST MONROE, AW, NC9. IN ORDER TO GET THE ASSISTANCE FROM THE HUMANE SOCIETY... FAMILIES NEED TO PROVE THEY ARE IN FINANCIAL NEED. ONCE APPROVED -- THE HELP IS AVAILABLE FOR UP TO 30 DAYS AND CAN BE RENEWED IF NECESSARY FOR AN ADDITIONAL 2 MONTHS.</media:text>

<media:text>man's under arrest.. and facing felony charges. action 3 news reporter dave roberts is live. this is where neighbors say they found pompoo suffering from internal injuries. the beating of the rat terrier in this backyard, investigators say, is enough to put the accused in prison. kevin cleavenger's mug shot resembles the same displeasure he expressed two weeks ago. "the old man's lying because i didn't slam it towards the ground like he said i did and he's making me out to be a crazy man." talking only to action 3 news, cleavenger says pompoo's barking bothered him but he never attacked. "the dog has been keeping me up and i have complained about it and i've called the police ." the dog's owner michael snyder says otherwise. "the man took him, took him by the leash like this and hit him on the ground ." the douglas county attorney believe's pompoo's owner. he and the nebraska humane society say, the dog's beaten body proves cleavenger slammed it to the ground more the once... in nebraska, that's felony animal abuse. "one of the elements is repeated beating to the animal. in the investigation, it shows that the suspect repeatedly slammed the dog to the ground." "if this box happened to be an animal, that beating would be considered a felony under nebraska law. a single swing however, and an officer would only cite you for a misdemeanor." "sadly, that is probably the case. the state statute causes for repeated beating to the animal over a quick successive time period." but a misdemeanor doesn't neccescarily mean an easy sentence. another man.. carson smith.. hit his dog with a single golf club swing.. and got 30 days in jail, plus two years probation and madatory participation in a nonviolence program. if convicted, kevin cleavenger faces five years in prison and a ten thousand dollar fine. reporting live.. dave roberts, action 3 news. a home invasion</media:text>

<media:text>sunday morning at county highway c-c near kaukauna. fox 11's lindsay veremis has the story. < > it's an alleged act that's drawn outrage.. and has police concerned. mike: a caller reported that someone had apparently thrown a dog out of a moving pick up truck on highway 41. captain mike jobe with the outagamie county sheriff's department says officers first thought the dog was seriously injured or dead. mike: it was just lying in the traffic lanes but every time the officer and the other officers assisting him tried to approach the dog it would get up and run, run for 20 or 30 yards and then lay back down. jobe says officers tried catch the dog.. a dark brown or black huskie, with a white face and belly, but it slipped away. lindsay: the sheriff's department does not know the extent of the dog's injuries but the fox valley humane society says most dumped animals, especially those in places like this don't stand a chance. deb: that animal is most likely going to die and it's going to be a painful and horrible death. it's going to starve to death, it's going to be hit by a car.. shelter director deb lewis says pet dumping has become more common, but can easily be avoided. the fox valley humane society will take animals, no charge, no questioned asked. it also has a pet food pantry to help owners keep animals in tough times. meanwhile, the sheriff's department says it's possible the dog jumped, but unlikely.. mike: you would think that if someone's dog jumped out of their vehicle they'd turn around and come back, that didn't happen in this case. li the sheriff's department is looking for a green pickup with partial license plate.. 7-5-0. if you have any information you are asked to call 832-5605. government inspectors looked</media:text>
