Rollin' with Jrow, a weekly editorial by me about what the fuck I want it to be about. Yes, I just swore in the excerpt! :)
[Topics of interest this round includes Working!!, Beyond Good & Evil and Sankarea.]

So I like doing episodic posts and stuff at Metanorn, but I’ve been thinking of ways to do something different here. I’ve tossed around ideas but never drafted anything. Then tonight as I was looking at the TV trailers steev posted, it kinda hit me. Do something where I can write about what I want to write about rather than the weekly grind of episodic posts since, as I’ve heard confirmed through other bloggers, episodics are tough business. We cover a lot on the podcast, but not everything so I’m making this my little playground where I can highlight what I want to highlight.

I plan on this being a weekly feature, and for the opening round of RwJ, I have 2 topics to start: an anime and a game one. It’s kind of what we do here at Anivision, bring anime and gaming together. :)

Thoughts on Working!!

A cross-dresser taking an order from a man with a rifle. Only at Wagnaria!

Working!! won the poll I posted a couple weeks ago. An anime I had been strongly suggested and in some cases ridiculed for not watching, I marathoned all of the first season a couple weeks ago.

Inami is the tsundere androphobe of the series. After Takanashi, she’s the next main character judging just from how often she was on screen and how much her character “developed” during the season. I don’t have a problem with her weird thing about hitting people, but what I did not like was seeing 9 out of 13 episodes (rought estimate) dedicated to the same drama surrounding it which ultimately merited the same results; not a lot. After episode 2′s meeting between she and Takanashi, too much time is spent with her acknowledging that she has a problem and needs to fix it. “Developments” are made. Takanashi talks down to her dad for raising her the way he did, and they go on a “date” and almost hold hands, but the sheer fact that they try to handle the situation all by themselves at the restaurant is dumb. I get if they want her to stay the way she is hitting dudes, but watching these characters try and work this out was a chore sometimes.

I did like that Takanashi fit in with everyone in the “weird” department. He truly felt like he belonged with them during the series. His youngest sister, Nazuna, a pure sweetheart, was the most level-headed person of the series and I could’ve watched her more often.

But seriously, is the ensemble really that great? Is it just that most other people in Wagnaria seem so secondary to the Takanashi/Inami story that we only get Yachiyo and Kyouko and Satou in spurts, or is it just that they have their 1-2 traits and are really only good for that much? This is why I somewhat hate the amount of time that Inami got, but also wonder if people like Satou, Souma and Yachiyo just squeezed out as much of an interesting story as they could in season 1.

To call the show bad would be wrong. There are good qualities and if I were a scoring guy, I would give it a respectable score in light of my personal concerns with the series. There were a couple real good laughs, but they were few and far between for my taste. Thanks for the recommendation and that extra push in the poll, but I have no plans to check out the apostrophe sequel series.

Holding BG&E2 for Next-gen Consoles – A good idea?

A Kotaku article that features a video interview with Michael Ancel talks about the tech needed for Beyond Good & Evil 2. The article isn’t an exact quote of his words, but the gist is that the game needs better tech from consoles than what is currently available and that, as Kotaku spins it in the headlines, that the game might have to wait until the next generation of consoles.

I feel that this would be a great decision, and an even better one if they can get BG&E 2 ready for console launch on whichever one comes out first, Microsoft or Sony. Just no to Wii U for right now.

Beyond Good & Evil is an awesome game, one of my favorites of the previous generation (I still have the PS2 version and the XBLA HD version). It was met with critical acclaim, but less than stellar sales thanks to Prince of Persia coming out around the same time. Ubisoft did no favors to BG&E, which is why it hit bargain bins as quickly as it did.

The game seems like big enough of a cult classic to piss people off that keep hearing me say, “OMG this game is so great, buy it jerks!” Michael Ancel is a great designer whose most recent game, Rayman Origins, is an absolute delight of a platformer. If they were able to release this as a launch title for a console, imagine the positive buzz that could circulate around it, make it as a reason to go crazy and spend whatever $$$ the console costs, and avoid releasing it now on PS3/360 as a “decent” game. Now the game could bomb, but I have enough belief in Michael Ancel that he can make it good. It won’t be the best the PS4 or Xbox 720 will see, but if done right, it could be a strong quality title that can pave the way and inspire other developers to crank out better next-gen titles at an earlier stage in the generation’s lifecycle.

Anime Pick of the Week – Sankarea 07

Great episode of Sankarea this week. As if we needed more reason to like Ranko. <3

I might do this each week to make it more of a variety post. Great episode featuring Ranko’s backstory along with Chihiro’s obsession with zombie movies. DEEN did a great job with some of the cinematography in this episode and it was adorable seeing a child Ranko scared of a horror flick. Unfortunately, Chihiro is too dumb to even realize that him avoiding the kiss and everything else leading up to it was quite mean. Seriously, catch the fucking signals you doofus and say something.

___________________________________

I thank you for reading, or for scrolling down to the bottom without reading for whatever dumb reason you nincompoop.

Next week is Animazement, so I might get my next post in early before that comes up. The week after, all about my time at Animazement with (hopefully) my good friend Xcom. And do worry, because in that same post, I’ll be mentioning something about NASCAR!

He's gone through about 30 laptops since 2010.

If you have been apart of this website for a long time, you probably know that we’ve been unsatisfied with our web host. We have officially moved to a brand new host, Hawk Host! It was a recommendation from our friend Setsuken from Anime-Evo and it was a great one at that. We also moved to a service called CloudFlare which will boost speeds by eliminating annoying spam traffic. All said and done, Anivision should be operating without problems for the foreseeable future!

There is one downside to moving to the new server.. While the server is great at hosting the website, it does have bandwidth limitations. That means we are having to move our podcasts to a new home. That has been found thanks to our friends at Metanorn! In the next few days we’ll be moving many episodes to Archive.org! We already started to use it for our last two episodes so you might not have even noticed we changed! We won’t be uploading every past episode. Since they are a free service, we don’t want to abuse them. We will be uploading our last 5 regular episodes, our last 2 season previews, and our various special episodes. So there will be an abundance of episodes to come. We will also be looking at releasing some more Highlights episodes in the future, so if you did want to hear some classic Anivision, you’ll get to in due time. Hopefully we will get that done in the next day or two.

Once again, I would like to apologize for all the trouble and inconvenience of our downtime. We hope that the new speedier server will allow for better viewing and more consistent up time. Thank-you for being apart of Anivision!

It is mother’s day and I wanted to do something special for it, so I decided what would be more appropriate than a top 5 list of the hottest Mothers in anime! We did this once in a podcast, but I figured I’d bring it back since my list changed from last time. Plus I get two more choices and that is soo much better.

5) Mari Katsuragi (The World God Only Knows)

Keima is lucky to have such a hawt Mom, but at the same time is unlucky because she is his Mom..

The World God Only Knows has one problem… Keima will never be able to concur his mother! Mari is easily one of the hottest moms around and he will never get the chance to date her. My only dissapointment in the anime is that she doesn’t get much time. I would love a beach episode just so I can see Keima’s mom in a bikini. >_<

4) Masane Amaha (Witchblade)

Normal Version~

Dominatrix Version~

No anime Mother’s list is complete with at Masane from Witchblade. She has the assets and the curves that makes all men drool and get tight pants. To top it off, if you like the S&M play she can transform into the ultimate dominatrix. You can see just enough to get you excited, but not enough to classify it as nudity. It gets the blood boiling and makes you want more.

3) Meme Touwa (Denpa Onna)

If you like girls that don’t act their age, Meme is right for you. The way Meme throws herself at Makoto it just makes you jealous. You also completely understand when Makoto decides to take a whiff of his pillow after she lies on it. If I had an Aunt as hot as her, I don’t know if I could control myself as well as he does.

2) Yuriko Takagi (Highschool of the Dead)

mmmMm. I definitely want you on my side when the Zombies come~

When it comes to killing Zombies, Yuriko is an expert and if I was stuck in a post apocalyptic Zombie world, I would definitely want her on my team. Not only does she kick a lot of ass, she does so in style. Wearing an Elegant Evening Gown as she kills zombies just adds to her hawt level and makes her one of the greatest Moms around.

1) Hatsuho Kazami (Please Teacher)

Would you? With her the answer might not be so easy...

If there was ever a Mom that defined the praise “MILF” it would be Hatsuho. Her daughters are sexy, but she steals the show. One look at her and you’d best believe that you’d go for her instead of her daughters. Not only is she hawt, but she is insatiable when it comes to erotic behaviors. If Kei ever cheated on Mizuho, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that it was with Hatsuho… Greatest Mother-in-law ever~

Which Mothers make your list?

It was good. The bonding scenes with Koko & Jonah were good and the whole panties thing and how Koko reacted was funny.

I’ll be back in action as I normally get to next episode.

We have once again decided to open up forums! Anivision is constantly striving to become a site with an active community here to talk about the things they love. Also with a new staff member willing to help moderate and run them, we figured we could give it another shot. We have moved from the awful Mingle forum system to Simple:Press! Simple:Press is the best forum system around with great features and integration that will make posting easy and fun. Here are some of the features you can expect to find:

Guest Posting

Easy User Registration

Private Messaging

Advanced Profiles

Awesome Conversations

One of the best features of Simple:Press is to allow anyone and everyone to post! That means even if you are a guest, you can come in and post! It is just like posting in the blog, just leave a Name and an Email and you can post all you want! Of course if you do want to register, it is a quick and painless process! You’ll be able to receive private messages and even set up a custom profile, avatar, and signature.

Finally, we are shifting the website into three main systems. We have Blogs, Galleries, and Forums! That way you can converse with friends, check out detailed postings, and view the best images from the latest anime episodes! If you visit Anivision and have always wanted to get involved, now is a great time!

In episode 2 of Nisemonogatari, Arararararararagi visits Kanbaru Suruga. She enjoys reading books and being naked.

The TV airing had some extra books thrown in key spots. We knew this would be uncensored eventually because we’d already seen promo trailers showing as much, but with the series now releasing in BD, we can view Kanbaru’s backside (and just a sliver more) in 1080p.

This is the OP for a visual novel game called Robotic;Notes. The game is scheduled to released this June (28th) in Japan by 5pb., the same company that created one of 2011′s best anime series Steins;Gate.

Robotic;Notes is already scheduled to air as an anime by Production I.G. in Fall 2012 on the noitaminA block. Let’s hope it’s not anywhere near as much a clunker as I.G.’s last show on noitaminA.

Below is another promo vid for the game.

OHZ MY GOD! The yearly Call of Duty game might be something you’ve come to expect and come to loathe, but as a Call of Duty fanboy I must report on anything new coming out. Black Ops 2 is here and it is something no one expected. Black Ops was a game set during the Cold War and it was and still is the best Call of Duty game since Call of Duty 4. Black Ops 2 I was anticipating to be a sequel to Black Ops in that it also would take place sometime during the Cold War and I am happy to say that is NOT the case. Black Ops 2 is set in 2025! The future is Black.

After watching the trailer, I can say that this looks like the first actual sequel since Call of Duty 4. Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 are very similar games, and while I could explain to you how they are different games, ultimately they are just more of the same game. Jumping into the future was not something I expected and I am excited to see how they pull it off. 4 Legged Tanks, Hover Coppers, and futuristic weapons should make this game interesting. Treyarch proved in Black Ops that they have the ability to not only make a fantastic game, but a game that is unique to the franchise. Nazi Zombies is still a mode that is a lot of fun to play. I can’t wait to see how they make the future. I am excited to see the new tweaks to the gameplay and how they will utilized futuristic gameplay in the Call of Duty Franchise.

(Update): After reading all of the news on various sites I have learned much more about Black Ops 2 and I am here to report on it. Black Ops 2′s campaign might very well be the most full campaign to ever hit the Call of Duty franchise. The story is being written by David Goyer, who is most noted for co-wroting the stories for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. It will take place in two eras, 1980′s and 2025, which the majority of will be set in 2025. It will be centered around two protagonists, Alex Mason and David Mason, Alex’s son. Alex, who returns from Black Ops, will be in the 1985, while David will be in 2025. Their task is to stop a mad man from starting a war between China and the US over rare earth metals used in futuristic technology. Raul Martinez is our antagonist and he will be hacking remote controlled drones and robotics causing them to attack LA.

The biggest change in gameplay and in the campaign is that it will have multiple endings… Yes I said it, multiple endings! The game will have different routes that will branch out based on the player’s choices and actions. One of the main ways the story will branch out will be due to the integration of a new type of level in the campaign, which is called Strike Force. Strike Force levels will feature tactical, open-ended gameplay in sandbox-style levels. Based on how you complete the missions and whether or not the player dies in the mission will directly effect the outcome of the game. In these levels you will control a squad giving them commands based on left and right bumper control. You will also control drones and robotic tanks telling them to take positions, defend, and/or attack. These kinds of levels are very cool and will bring a much needed tactical gameplay to Call of Duty franchise that it has never had before. Also I forgot to mention, there will be Jet missions. Much like Battlefield 3, there will be free roaming Jet gameplay mechanics in the campaign mode.

Multiplayer will be based solely in 2025. Zombies will be back and more flushed out than ever. Nothing else has been revealed for the Multiplayer and Zombies modes yet. I am more stoked than ever for a Call of Duty game. They said that they did use Actors and motion capture so it will have top notch quality and acting in the cut scenes. They even brought a horse into the studio for the horse back riding sequences. They also upped all the graphics trying to give the illusion of PC quality to the pitiful 60fps that our consoles put out.

I will be eagerly awaiting more news.

May is the month of Max as Rockstar brings an old, grizzled detective back into action in an elsewise not-so-stellar month of gaming.

Tera (1st on PC)

It’s a big-enough PC game for me to highlight, but fuck, I don’t do MMO’s.

Starhawk (8th on PS3)

The spiritual successor to Warhawk, this time there’ll be a single-player mode and RTS-elements will be introduced with the ability to build and maintain structures to help aid you and your teammates in battle along the game’s standard 3rd-person action.

Sonic 4: Episode 2 (15th on many platforms)

If you want to see an episode III, buy the game and get others to, because Sega is relying on the numbers to see if making an episode III is worth doing.

Max Payne 3 (15th on 360 & PS3, 29th on PC)

Almost 9 years ago I was playing Max Payne 2. This month, Rockstar is bringing back one of the greats when it comes to “Bullet Time”. It looks like Max has aged that much from the last game to this one, and the action appears to be just as fun as ever.

Remedy and Sam Lake aren’t working/writing on this game, but the interesting change is in it being done by Rockstar and Dan Houser. In preparation for the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto V, you can establish a crew in MP3′s multiplayer and carry them over to GTA V.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (22nd on PS3 & 360, June 12th on PC)

So as a Plus member, GR:FS automatically downloaded on my PS3, but I was not able to get online because apparently people aren’t playing it. I’m a fan of Halo and CoD’s matchmaking system and really nobody else’s.

Future Soldier has been in the ether for about 3 years now, so it’s good to finally see it come out. The part that interested me most was Gunsmith, the weapons customization system and how Kinect was implemented to use that mode and the shooting range.

Sorcery (22nd on PS3)

This was one of the first games shown when PlayStation Move debuted at E3 2010 and actually did look interesting, but it’s taken up until this month to get the game out. The marketing philosophy for Move has changed since then, so Sorcery likely won’t sell as much as it could’ve during Move’s earlier days.

Resistance: Burning Skies (29th on Vita)

An FPS for a handheld, but thankfully, it’s the dual-thumbstick Vita. This particular Resistance falls in between Fall of Man and Retribution, both taking place before 2 and is one of the big titles to come out for the Vita since the system’s launch. There is a possibility that this could be Resistance’s last game, so I as a Resistance fan am looking for a fun way to possibly close out my time with the series.

Other games releasing in May:

Mortal Kombat (1st on Vita)

Akai Katana (16th on 360)

Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland (22nd on PS3)

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (29th on most systems)

Silent Hill: Book of Memories (31st on Vita)
