Daney, thanks for your comment. Alabama Cooperative Extension System Director Gaines Smith says "We should honor and celebrate the past; accept and adjust to the current situation; and position ourselves to prosper in the future".

His thoughts are that we should not forget our rich and important past, but we must adjust. Like you, evolve faster.

Thanks @(76) to answering the question yesterday. I find explaining Twitter is difficult sometimes. Truth be known, I was taken a back a little with the Twitter vs Email question.

1) The question indicated he had at least heard of Twitter.

2) He wanted an answer to convince one to stop using one for another.

These new tools seldom take the old tools away. Rather I think the new tools give us better fitting tools for particular tasks. For instance, wikis are much better for collaboration than sending email attachments.

Email is still needed and useful. Twitter will not replace it. Though Twitter is better for establishing authenticity and conncetions, as well as all the things everyone mentioned.

Thanks Anne for bringing a bit more attention to Creative Commons. I hope CC will continue to grow in recognition and use. It just makes so much SENSE.

In one encouraging move, the University of Minnesota's VP for Academic Affairs & Provost endorsed Creative Commons in a November 2008 announcement to faculty and staff.

Onward and upward!

(BTW, a slightly better way to access my Flickr forestry photos is via the Minnesota forestry collection. Thanks for the mention!)

Mobile applications for Facebook and Twitter are good ways to send messages that are not tied to a phone number. Other than using email or mobile applications, I am not sure there is a good solution for your request.

Thanks Devon, I thought it was a good list. Once a quarter, I teach a workshop to a group of adults--most are senior citizens who live in rural areas. This list will come in handy.
