I am beyond excited about this. I’ve been reading (and assigning) work from NIGHTMARE for over a decade and I’m thrilled that soon my own work will be published with them soon. The online speculative fiction magazine Strange Horizons published my short story “Feeder Fish” today! It’s a work of dark speculative fiction (or maybe horror-lite?) set in Morro Bay. Even though it has absolutely nothing to do with dragon boating, the inspiration really came from my experiences dragon boating with the Central Coast SurviveOars in beautiful Morro Bay in California. It’s my own weird kind of love letter to those waters, which may sound strange given that it’s technically a work of horror fiction…but still. Horror + nature writing + ghost story = “Feeder Fish”? (You can read just my short story, or the entire issue on the Strange Horizons website.)

I’ve never published a creative work before…but now my essay “What Are You?” is out in this gorgeous collection of essays by Asian American women. It’s a weird experience to put something so personal out there, but it was really fun to write and I’m super excited that it’s finally in print! The stunning cover is an added bonus — hats off to NYU Press’s design team for that one. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
