<itunes:subtitle>by Peter Griffin -- One city official is suing another. Or the previous officeholder is suing another previous officeholder. The previous city attorney, Rocky Delgadillo, was the one being sued. He usually represents the city in lawsuits. But since it was the city controller who was suing him, things get kind of complicated. Throw in the fact that there's a new controller and a new city attorney and ARN reporter Richie Duchon will have to sort out the mess for us. Also, school reform in Los Angeles is looking increasingly likely, as parents at 30 troubled LA schools may get the opportunity to decide their schools' futures. But nothing is easy at LAUSD. Dominic Riley has a report from teachers’ union headquarters, where things got a littlee heated today. And finally a feature from Neila Jamee on a dynamic dance school in South Los Angeles.

<itunes:subtitle>by Peter Griffin -- Mayor Antonio Villaraigos announced Deputy Police Chief Charlie Beck as his choice to become the next chief of the LAPD. A routine police stop in South L.A. turned violent as the drive drew a gun and fired shots at officers. The L.A. County Board of Supervisors offered a $10,000 reward in the shooting death of a 16-year-old Long Beach high school student last Friday. We have a roundup of the big election stories on this election day. Legislators are scrambling to come with a package of bills aimed to reform California's water infrastructure. A wildfire ignited near the 60 freeway in Diamond Bar Tuesday afternoon. A forum at Manual Arts High School discussed the close links between mental health and high school drop-out rates. Police Chief Charlie Beck gave an emotional speech after Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced Beck as his choice to lead the LAPD after Chief Bill Bratton resigned Saturday. We have reaction to Beck's selection from some leaders and activists in the South L.A. community. Dean of South Africa's Rhodes University journalism school talks about what it means for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to be held in South Africa and how journalists should cover the story. And a new report about stress levels in L.A. says fewer people are as worried about money as they were in 2008, but more people are unhappy with their jobs.

Now that California has medicinal marijuana clinics, and the federal government has announced that they won't bust those clinics anymore, full legalization of pot might be the next step. Host Peter Griffin talked with UC Davis Law School's Vikram Amar about what that might mean for California. LAUSD broke ground today on a new school, Juanita Tate Elementary, in South Los Angeles. It's part of a large push by the school district to build new schools in Los Angeles. Reporter Richie Duchon was at the groundbreaking. And seafood might just have a chance. Ariel Edwards-Levey was with chefs, scientists and hungry Angelenos to hear about the movement for sustainable seafood.
Producer: Matthew Richmond, Host: Pete Griffin, Live Guest: Carlos Saucedo (ATVN). Featuring instrumental tracks from music by Cat Bag Music, Ne-Yo, and Ryan Amen.

But it's not just brush being burned by the flames - the firefighting effort putting a strain on the state;s already-scorched budget. But what it loses in the fire, the state will make up in budget cuts. California State University students and faculty are reacting to news that the school system will reduce next year's incoming class by 10,000 applicants to cut costs. And the LAPD - no stranger to tight budgets - receives a generous donation from a city councilman that will go toward testing the department's huge backlog of rape kits.
