If you don’t like the new Timeline feature on Facebook and want to view profiles in the old style, then TimelineRemove is the perfect extension for you. This tiny, but handy tool disables the new Facebook timeline feature and restores the classic look, without changing the timeline behavior for other visitors of your Facebook profile.

The extension basically works by hiding the timeline, so you can view your own and others’ profiles in the old style.

TimelineRemove works automatically once installed, and a button is added to the toolbar that lets you toggle the timeline on and off, whenever you want.

Sending SMS from Gmail

You can send SMS messages to your contacts’ mobile phones using Gmail Chat. To do so from Gmail:

Enter your contact’s number in the ‘Search or invite friends’ box in Chat, and select Send SMS from the box of options that appears to the right of your contact’s name. Or, if you already have a Chat window open for this contact, just click Options, and select Send SMS.

In the dialog box, enter a phone number in the ‘Send SMS messages to this number’ field. This feature is only launched in selected countries. Click here for the list of supported countries and operators. If you are not located in one of these countries you can still use it, but you won't see the SMS option in Chat until you enable it manually in the Chat settings page.

Click Save.

A Chat window appears. Just type your message as you would normally. When you hit Enter, the message will be sent to the phone number you entered.

>>     If your contact replies, the text message response will appear as a reply in Chat. These conversations are stored in your Chat history just like regular chats (but keep in mind that you can’t go off the record while communicating via SMS).

>>     Note regarding mobile phone subscribers in North America: depending on which mobile plans your contacts in North America have, they may be charged by their mobile providers for receiving text messages.

>>     Note regarding phone subscribers of Pelephone in Israel: your contacts on the Pelephone network will receive your SMS messages for free, and will be charged for replying according to Pelephone's pricelist for core service. Special rates and packages do not apply.

>>     Note regarding mobile phone subscribers in Zambia: your contacts in Zambia will receive SMS messages for free, and will be charged for replying according to their operator's price for sending an international SMS to the USA.

Replying to SMS messages

When you receive an SMS message from a Gmail contact, add the incoming number to your phone's address book (this number is associated with the sender's Gmail account, so you can use it to send Chat messages to that person in the future). Then, you can reply to the message as you would any other text message, and your reply appears as a Chat message in your friend's Gmail account.

Block SMS from Gmail

If you receive an unwanted SMS message from Gmail Chat, you can block future messages from the sender. Just reply to the message with the word 'BLOCK'. If you change your mind about that sender, you can send a message with the phrase 'UNBLOCK' to the phone number from which the message was sent (the SMS messages sent from Gmail Chat have their own number associated with the sender's email account).

Start or Stop Receiving SMS from Google Chat

If you no longer wish to receive SMS messages from any Gmail user, you can text 'STOP' to the system number of your carrier. When you text 'STOP' you will receive a message confirmation and you will no longer receive SMS messages from any Gmail user. To reactivate the service text 'START' to the system number.

SMS in Chat commands

Here are some commands that might come in handy for you down the road when using SMS with Chat:

HELP: Text this command to any Gmail SMS number and you'll get a response reminding you of some of the basics of SMS and a refresher of some of the other useful commands
STOP: This command will block all SMS messages from Gmail
START: Re-enables you to receive SMS messages from Gmail if you're currently blocking them
BLOCK: Send to the code number for a particular contact to block messages from that specific person
UNBLOCK: Allows a blocked contact to send you SMS messages in the futur.

Abuse prevention with SMS

If you send too many messages from web to mobile, without mobile responding, the web user will get blocked. To prevent abuse, any Gmail user who sends an excessive number of SMS messages from Gmail, without getting any responses in return, will be blocked from sending further SMS messages.

SMS in Chat didn't work

If you send an SMS message to a friend who doesn't receive it after a couple of hours, you may want to try again. Text messages can be a little flaky at times, and occasionally encounter some delays before reaching their recipient. If you see a message telling you that 'Something went wrong,' it could indicate that your message is taking a while, or that it might not go through at all. So, your best bet in this case is likely to try again.

Receiving SMS from Gmail

Gmail users can send SMS messages to their contacts through Gmail Chat. To write back, reply to the message as you would any other text message, and your message appears as a Chat message in your friend's Gmail account.

How can I start sending SMS messages from Gmail?

Anyone with a Gmail account can send SMS messages to their contacts in certain countries through Gmail Chat. To start texting, turn on the Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat labs feature in the Labs tab of your Gmail account settings. Once the lab is enabled, you can send text messages to your friends' phones.
If you don't have a Gmail account, you can create an account at http://mail.google.com/mail/signup.

SMS credit in Chat

SMS credit is an allocation of SMS (text messages) that you're able to send to a mobile phone:

Initially, you're granted a credit of fifty messages.
Every time you send a message, your credit decreases by one.
Every time you receive an SMS message in Chat (for example when a phone user replies to one of your messages) your credit increases by five, up to a maximum of 50.

If your SMS credit goes down to zero at any point, it will increase back up to one 24 hours later. So, you won't ever be locked out of the system.

"Buying" additional messages

Keep in mind that if you'd like a higher message credit, you can always send an SMS to your own phone, and then reply to that message multiple times. Every time you send a reply message, your SMS credit is increased by five. Effectively, you're buying more messages by paying your phone company for these outgoing messages.

What is Messenger?

Messenger is a new app that brings Facebook to your desktop. While you surf the web or use other applications on your computer, you can:

Messenger lets you use Facebook without being on www.facebook.com. You will now be able to stay in touch anytime, no matter what you're doing.

What kind of computer operating system do I need in order to use Messenger?

You can set up the app if you use Windows 7 on your computer. We are currently working on a version of this app for Windows Vista. Please note that we do not currently support Windows XP.

How do I log in and log out of Facebook Messenger?

When you download and open Messenger for the first time, you will be logged in automatically. From then on, you'll need to log in from the app and not from your browser.

Logging In

To log into Messenger

Click on the icon in your Windows system tray
Once the app opens, enter your email and password

Note that when you click on messages, notifications or ticker items, you will be directed to your browser. If you aren't logged in, you’ll need to log into www.facebook.com to view this content.

Logging Out

To log out of Messenger

Right-click on the icon in your Windows system tray icon in your Windows system tray and select Log out

When you log out of the app, you'll still be able to view your content on www.facebook.com. Logging out of the app will not interrupt you from viewing an active Facebook session on your browser.

What’s the difference between Exit and Log out in Messenger?

Choosing Exit will close Messenger, but keep you logged into the app. You can open the app again by searching for Facebook Messenger in your Windows Start Menu. When you do, you won't have to enter your email and password to start using it. The app will also open when you restart your computer.

Choosing Log out will completely log you out of Messenger. The next time you open the app, you'll need to log in.

Can I minimize or collapse the sidebar in Messenger?

If you’d like to close the sidebar but still get notifications and chats, click the ‘x’ at the top-right corner. If you don’t see an ‘x,’ make sure the app is undocked.

Note: Closing the sidebar will still keep you logged in. When you want to log out of the app completely, right-click the Facebook icon in your Windows taskbar (by the clock), then click Log out.

How do I dock and undock the Messenger app?

Click the icon at the bottom-right corner of the window to undock the app. Click to dock it again.

By default, the app is undocked so that you can easily move it around your computer screen (just click the top of the sidebar and drag it with your mouse). When it's undocked you can also close the sidebar by clicking the 'x' and still get notifications and chats.

When you dock the window, it stays on the right side of your screen.

Can I chat with a group or video call with friends on Messenger?

Not yet. You can chat and message with individual friends, see what’s going on in ticker and get quick notifications about Facebook activity in Messenger. Chatting with multiple friends, video calling, limiting chat availability and editing settings are not currently available through the app. You can still do these by going to www.facebook.com in your web browser.

How does privacy work for Messenger?

The same preferences you’ve set in your privacy settings on www.facebook.com apply when you’re using the Facebook Messenger for Windows app.

How do I uninstall Messenger?

Before uninstalling: If you have the app open, first exit the app by right-clicking the icon in your Windows taskbar (by the clock) and choosing Exit.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program
Select Facebook Messenger from the list
Confirm that you are sure and if prompted, choose to automatically close the app

If the app is still running after you uninstall it, just click Exit. The app won't be installed anymore.

In Unix-like Operating system the ' /etc/passwd ' file is a text-based database of information about users that may login to the system or other operating system user identities that own running processes.

The file's name originates from one of its initial functions as it contained the data used to verify password of user accounts. However, on modern Unix system the security-sensitive password information is instead often stored in a different file using shadow password, or other database implementations.

The ' /etc/passwd ' file typically has file system permissions that allow it to be readable by all users of the system (world-readable), although it may only be modified by the superuser or by using a few special purpose privileged commands.

File Format :-

The ' /etc/passwd ' file is a text file with one record per line. Each describing a user account. Each record consists of seven fields separated by colons ' : ' symbol.

Seven Fields Are:-

1. Username:

The First field is username.
It is used when a user log in.
It should be between 1 to 32 characters in length. Case-sensitive, usually all lowercase.

2. Password:

The second field stores information used to validate a user's password.
An 'x' in the password field. It's mean the actual encrypted password information being stored in a separate shadow password ( '/etc/shadow' ) file.
Setting this field to an asterisk ( '*' ) is the typical way to deactivated an account to prevent it being used.

3. User Identifier ( UID ):

The third field is the user identifier.
The number that the operating system uses for internal purpose.
It does not have to be unique.

UID 0 (zero) is reserved for 'root'.

UID 1-499 are researved for system users.

UID above 500 are use for normal users.

4. Group Identifier ( GID ):

The fourth field is the group identifier.
The number identifies the primary group of the user. All files that are created by this user may initially be accessible to this group.
Usually the group id will match the user id.

5. Gecos Field (General Electric Comprehensive Operating Supervisor / System ):

The fifth field, called the Gecos field.
It is commentary that describes the person or account.
Typically, this is a set of comma-separated values including the user's full name and contact details.

6. Home Directory:

The sixth field is the path t the user's home directory.
The absolute path to the directory the user will be in when they log in. Usually '/home/username' ( eg,:- '/home/nish' ).
All user's personal files, web pages, mail forwarding, etc. will be stored here.

7. Program or Shell:

The seventh field is the program or Shell that is started every time the user logs into the system.
For an interactive user, this is usually one of the system's command line interpreters (shells).
Often set to '/bin/bash' to provide access to the bash shell.

Ex-girlfriend sex videos, browser plugins and Facebook survey scams

Scammers are up to their old tricks on Facebook, tricking users into visiting revenue-generating

survey scam websites by appearing to offer sex videos.

Using a thumbnail which suggests a link to a sex video, messages posted on compromised Facebook users' walls attempt to lure their unsuspecting Facebook friends into clicking to see more.

And if the use of a saucy snapshot of a naked man and woman in an intimate pose wasn't enough, the messages also include a variety of names (obscured in the images below) - presumably these are the names of the afflicted users' Facebook friends.

If you are fooled into clicking on the link, however, you are taken to a third party webpage which claims that you will only be able to view the sex video once you you have installed a DivX plugin.

Hopefully regular readers of Naked Security would know better than to click on the link to install the plugin, but if you did it would attempt to install a script into your browser.

This script subsequently takes your browser to an all-too-familiar survey webpage - and the more people who complete the survey (presumably the scammers hope that their victims have committed so much effort into viewing the video by now, that they're unlikely to give up now) the more commission is made.

What is GNS3 ?

GNS3 is a graphical network simulator that allows simulation of complex networks.

His ardent fans believe that nothing is impossible for South Indian superstar Rajinikanth, who in his reel-life avatars has stopped speeding bullets with bare hands and oncoming trains with the flick of a leg.

Now, in a real-life dedication to the cult figure, a web service firm has created website that runs without Internet -- yes, you read it right. It may sound like another of the millions of Rajinikanth jokes that abound the worldwide web, but a new website dedicated to the superstar runs 'without an internet connection'.

www.allaboutrajni.com is developed by Webchutney's creative director Gurbaksh Singh. As soon as visitors log onto this particular website, they get to read message that says, "He is no ordinary man, this is no ordinary website. It runs on Rajini Power." To proceed further into this specially designed website, visitors must disconnect the Internet connection as stated on the website.

Once they disconnect Internet connectivity from their systems, the website takes visitors to another screen that greets with a local Chennai-Tamil slang, which is an informal term to address a buddy: 'Aye Macha'.

As the website is devoted to south India's Thalaivar, Rajinikanth, it carries the all information related to him. It has included, Rajini's life story, inside scoops and best Rajini jokes on Internet. Overall, it's all about Rajini, and only Rajini.

The site is designed in such a way to keep the morale of the visitors high throughout one's stay. With vibrant combinations of colour, foot tapping music, it welcomes readers with funny quotes and illustrations, and other features making a mere resemblance to Rajini style as it sets visitors-on-a-joy-browse. Thus, it comprises all the elements to be hit amongst Rajini fans.

When mischief visitors try to defy the basic rule of this Rajini website by reconnecting the Internet, they happen to meet with a humorous error message that reads: "Aiyyo! That was unexpected. To keep browsing, switch off your Internet."

According to website designer Gurbaksh Singh the website has received a phenomenal response and has gone viral with several thousand hits and counting, along with innumerable shares and mentions across the web, especially on popular social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

What is Wireshark?

Wireshark is a network packet analyzer. A network packet analyzer will try to capture network packets and tries to display that packet data as detailed as possible.

You could think of a network packet analyzer as a measuring device used to examine what's going on inside a network cable, just like a voltmeter is used by an electrician to examine what's going on inside an electric cable (but at a higher level, of course).

In the past, such tools were either very expensive, proprietary, or both. However, with the advent of Wireshark, all that has changed.

Wireshark is perhaps one of the best open source packet analyzers available today.

Some Intended Purposes :-
