Spring 2008 Registration Continues On Connect!!
------------------------
It is still possible to register for Spring 2008 classes. There will be
a late fee charged for new registrations, but not for those who have
already registered and are now changing their schedule.

Any students who were closed out of courses earlier during
registration, should recheck the courses to see if they have reopened
due to add/drops. The final add/drop date for Spring Registration is
February 15th, 2008.

Please note that Spring '08 Registration will be completed on Connect!

You can access Connect at http://connect.ants.edu using your Username
and Password. This Username and Password are the same ones that you used
for Fall and Winter Registration on Connect. If you do not have your
Username and Password for Connect, please call the Help Desk at
617-964-1100 x314.

There are detailed instructions for Online Registration on the main
page of the Student tab in Connect. Once you have logged in, click on
"Student" at the top of the page. You will be redirected to a page
containing the directions for Registration, Online Bill Payment, and the
Online Add/Drop procedures. Follow these instructions for registration.

PLEASE NOTE: Your Spring '08 Registration is not complete and will not
be finalized until you have filled out the Spring 2008 Registration and
Services Confirmation Form.

the Registration Instructions found on the Student Page in Connect,

NEW ANTS WEBSITE TO GO LIVE!
------------------------
Over the weekend, the long-awaited new website will go live. The
expanded goal of the new site is to help the outside world discover
and support Andover Newton, in addition to providing the information
the Andover Newton community is accustomed to finding. We have tried
to streamline and upgrade navigation and services, and further
enhancements will be rolled out over the coming months. We hope you'll
take time to explore it, and we truly appreciate all the help we've
received in putting the new site together (more than 30 people
contributed feedback!).

We've tried to make the launch as painless as possible. Hopefully,
you'll find the site intuitive and easy to use. Please take a few
moments to surf the site and discover where your favorite sections are
now located. However, if you have difficulty finding things, you might
try the Search function, which is greatly improved over the old search
system. You'll find a Search box at the top of each screen. Links for
Webmail
and Connect are in the footer on every page as well as in the
"Current Students - Online Resources" section.

Content updates in cooperation with senior administration are ongoing
and will continue over the next few months. In a site as large and
complex as this, there may be a few errors, despite our best efforts.
We ask for the help and indulgence of the Andover Newton community in
discovering them. We all want to make this a great website! Please
direct all feedback to webteam@ants.edu. If you find an error, please
forward the relevant page address along with your comment, by copying
and pasting it from your browser's address bar (it starts with
http://). That way we can most quickly find and correct it.

Worship and Preaching Job Search

The Worship and Preaching Job Search Committee is pleased to announce a
finalist for the Faculty Position in Worship and Preaching and Director
of the Wilson Chapel. The Reverend Dr. Kay Lynn Northcutt will be on
campus for final interviews February 13th and 14th. Dr. Northcutt's
public lecture is Wednesday, February 13th, from 12:00-1:00 pm in the
Berkeley room and all are encouraged to attend. Student's have the
opportunity to meet and interact with Kay on Thursday, February 14th,
from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in the new student lounge. Copies of Dr.

New Testament Job Search
------------------------
On Monday, February 11, 2008, the New Testament Search Committee will
welcome Demetrius Williams, a Professor of New Testament at Marquette
University and a finalist for the New Testament position here at ANTS,
to campus. Similar to the interview process for Mr. Lee, all students
are invited to attend a luncheon with Demetrius Williams that will be
held at 12:00 p.m. and then attend a lecture presented by Dr. Williams
at 1:00 p.m. in the Berkeley Room. Because student input is valued in
the process of selecting a new professor to join the ANTS community, we
hope all students who are interested and available will make an effort
to attend these two events.

Ay guey, having a tough time to find someone to speak Spanish? ¡No te
preocupes!

The Latin American Fellowship is pleased to announce that Andover
Newton now has a designated time and place for folks to come and speak
Spanish. The small dining room in the cafeteria has been reserved for
Tuesday, 2/12/08, from 11:30am to 1:00pm (in other words, during lunch).
We plan to make this a regular event, so if you are feeling the need to
come and practice your Spanish, or even just want to listen to some
Spanish, be sure to come. For more information, contact Jason Boyd

Answered prayers: A lathe lost.a lathe found
------------------------
Three weeks ago, my son-in-law, Don, lost his wood lathe in a
devastating
fire. With no means to support my daughter Rachel and their sons Silas
and
Ry, prospects were mighty bleak. Through the miracle of eBay (!) a
replacement lathe was located in Miami and it was delivered to their
barn
last Wednesday. Like her predecessor Big Bertha, Sweet Loretta also
weights
in at 2 tons and is 14 feet long. Maneuvering her through the snow and
into
the sliding barn door was no easy task. It took the efforts of 8 men,
my
daughter and a bucket loader to settle her in. Although we praise God
that
she arrived, until the electrical service is updated, the lathe cannot
yet
be used, hence there is still no income for my family. I ask for your
continued prayers.

The Black Student Fellowship will be holding worship Thursday,
February 14th, at which Rev. Everette Frye, Sr. will be preaching.

The Korean Evangelical meets twice weekly in the lower sanctuary in
the Wilson Chapel. Bible study is at 7:30 pm on Wednesdays and
worship is Sunday mornings at 11:30am.

Take advantage of the community forum at Morning Prayer and think
about offering a short reflection to your friends and family here on
campus. It's been a beautiful and uplifting experience. With

Fellow Students,

Andover Newton will be holding its Conference on Ministries/Spring Open
House on February 22nd and 23rd and we need your help.

We all know that discerning a call to seminary is an exciting, scary
and overwhelming process. Your invitation to a member of your home
church, a member of your field education congregation, or any member
inside of and outside of your faith tradition to attend our Conference
on Ministries could be all that she or he needs to take the next step
and respond to God's call. So, we are asking you to do just that -
offer an invitation to anyone seeking to respond to a deeper call,
anyone looking to feed a hunger for intellectual exploration and
spiritual growth to visit your seminary on February 22nd and 23rd.

Participants in our Conference on Ministries will have the opportunity
to meet our faculty, staff, Deans and President Carter, attend sample
classes, interact with current students in small groups, tour the
campus, participate in roundtable discussions on life after college as
well as the transition back to school, worship, and listen to some great
gospel music while in fellowship with our community.

The Conference on Ministries is a wonderful opportunity for prospective
students to share stories and experiences, meet extraordinary people,
and receive answers to their questions about Andover Newton and a
theological vocation. Attached is a flyer with information on the event

Financial Aid Information:

Northern Baptist Education Society Scholarships-Spring Semester:
Rev. Roger Spinney will be hosting a dinner at the Walker Center on
March 7 for students who received Northern Baptist Scholarships in the
fall. Students should have received an invitation and scholarship
application for the spring semester. The financial aid office needs to
complete a section of the application. Please drop off the application
by February 22, so the application can be completed and returned to Rev.
Spinney prior to March 7. New ABC students wishing to apply for a
scholarship will need to pick up the application from the financial aid
office and will need to meet with Rev. Spinney before March 7.

Colonial Clergy Scholarships for 2008-2009:
The Colonial Clergy will be awarding scholarships for the 2008-2009
award year. MDIV students who plan a church ministry in the manner of
the Colonial Clergy may apply for a scholarship. Students need to submit
a one page letter, writing about their school life and their family, how
summer work relates to their studies, financial need, and future plans.
Please submit letters to the financial aid office by February 22, 2008.

Armstrong/Voss Scholarship for 2008-2009:
$2000 scholarship. Student must be in-care of the Minnesota Conference,
United Church of Christ. Application available in the financial aid
office. Scholarship deadline February 15, 2008.

WAR, MADNESS, and DELUSION
A Juried Exhibit at Andover Newton

Opening Reception for War, Madness, and Delusion
Thursday, February 7, 5:00 - 8:00 pm in the
Meetinghouse Gallery. All are welcome.

This powerful exhibit is on display in the
Meetinghouse and Wilson Chapel Galleries. Addressing
the experience and contested morality of war in our
times, with works from 33 selected artists confronting
the nature and meaning of war, and the challenges of
peacemaking in the midst of conflict.

March 13: Special Symposium featuring Bill Schultz,
former executive director of Amnesty International
USA, with exhibiting artists, activists, politicians
and veterans.

Andover Newton student Calob Rundell writes:

"Today was cold and wet in the Baghdad area. Not near as cold as
winter in New England or Colorado, but cold for a place that will be 120
in the summer.

I'm writing you as the newest, lowest ranking Non-Commissioned Officer
in the Army. Today I was "advanced" (not promoted because I still make
the same pay) from Specialist to Corporal. I'm also the company's
current "Hero of the Month" for serving as my platoon's rotating team
leader.

Things continue to be quiet for us and we hope they stay that way.
Thank you to everyone who was written or sent packages. It means a
great deal to get anything in the mail.

Come one and all to the annual Andover Newton Multicultural Festival.
Friday, Feb. 8, 6:00 pm in the Meeting House. Bring a dish that

Please consider sharing music, poetry, dance, or whatever might reflect
your heritage. This event is co-sponsored by the international students
at Andover Newton and my office. I hope many of you will be with us!

On May 10th Andover Newton is going to host a major conference on the
future of mission as part of our Bicentennial celebration. The title of
the event is "The Majority Speaks: Global Perspectives on Mission in
the 21st Century". Some of the key program elements for this event
are: a keynote speaker and panel presentations from 2/3 World
representatives, discussion groups with international guests for lay
leaders and pastors, to showcase "best practice" missional programs,
to have 20 workshops on mission programs and resources, to exhibit
information on leading programs and agencies, to have a special
missional worship service and registration.

As you can see we have a full day of activities planned and will need
the help of volunteers with mailings, registration, worship, exhibits
and displays, transportation, promotion, hosting guests and clean up.
If you have a couple of hours to spare between now and May 10th and
would like to give us a hand please contact Rev. Miriam Baez at

Recycling Information

As you know, our recycling options on campus have expanded.
Hallelujah!
However, it is important that we recycle properly; when the wrong items
are
in a bin, the companies throw out the entire bin! Please note what is
acceptable and what is not (there has been confusion around whether
the
commingled bin takes cardboard--it DOES NOT. This has been confirmed by
the
company). Thank you!

- Cardboard milk and juice cartons (no other kind)

- NO cardboard, trash, oil or hazardous chemicals, propane tanks,
regulated medical waste, food waste, foam cups or foam plates, paper
cups or
paper plates, plastic bags or plastic wraps, wood waste, rubber waste,
textiles

All containers must be rinsed prior to recycling.

Paper Bin
- All computer paper, magazines, newspapers, junk mail and the like
- No cardboard or phonebooks
- Please DO NOT place the paper in plastic bags

Just a reminder: I'm happy to work with you on anything you might be
writing.

I'm on campus Tuesdays 10 to 3, and alternate Thursdays 12 to 3, in
Worcester 302, and will also be here two Mondays: Feb. 11 and March 3.

Drop in if you like, but it's better to email me for an appointment.
And yes, we can work by phone and email, once we've met in person.

Also note: The small lunchtime writing groups are getting going again,
on Tuesday and Thursday. We welcome a few more people. Email me for
details.
