Perfume-Scented Burgers

After grabbing the Wii-motes from my house, my friends and I decided to go order a couple of meals from McDonald's for take-away. Later, when we reached my friend's place and began to dig into our food, I detected a peculiar scent that seemed to originate from my burger. Every time I came to take a bite, I would get a whiff of a something that smells like masculine cologne; the expensive kind that men would wear for theirdishdashas during Eid?

"My burger smells good!", I exclaimed.
"Yes 3baid, that's what food smells like when you're hungry", one of them says.
"No no! I mean really good, like perfume -it's weird --wait it's gone!"

I started to sniff around trying to locate (or at least identify) the scent as my friends gaze and laugh at me like I'm a lunatic. "It's weird; I only smell it when I take a bite...", I concluded, the point at which my friend stop eating, drop and laugh hysterically. I decided to pass the burger around to try to make sense of it all, but they couldn't smell anything odd. What could it be? Was it the pickles? Maybe the place I happened to be sitting at? Nope.

"Oh never mind". I was too hungry to bother so I carried on eating away.

With just a small piece left of my burger, I thought I'd give it one last shot for the sake of curiosity. I was the only person who was able to detect the strange scent after all, right?

My eyes lit up as I discovered that the source of that strong aroma came from none other my hands. The secret was behind the liquid soap that I had used earlier during the day! How could I have not known that?!

More laughing fits emanate shortly after.

Blogger vs Wordpress

Some recent switchers to Blogger Beta have been experiencing commenting-related problems that have enticed the idea of moving to Wordpress. After searching the web for a decent comparison between the two services, I drew my own table to let you decide whether making the change is worth it or not:

In short, if you take blogging seriously, need to check statistics, store multiple pages, upload and update software and don't mind paying for hosting then Wordpress is for you. On the other hand, if you're a casual blogger who simply wants a place to write their thoughts, share pictures, customize their template, not worry about any kind of code/fee/storage limit, then Blogger is for you.

Reminder: Blogger in Beta is not a finished product. Google will be continually fixing and adding new features as they go.

Sweet Hearts Give Blood Awareness Campaign

Shortages in Kuwait's Central Blood Bank has lead to the formation of the Sweet Hearts Give Blood awareness campaign. With hopes of encouraging blood donations, they released a television ad featuring different Kuwaiti celebrities talking about the situation as a national responsibility. I couldn't help but notice its incredible resemblance to the video from the ONE campaign. You can download and watch the short clip for yourself here.

The Secret Behind 'X'

Back in August, I posted a picture of a transformer station in Salmiya because I liked the name, "Salmiya X". I found out last week that the, "X" represents the voltage that a station handles. X means it operates at 330 kilovolts. There are other stations with names like, "Salwa W" where they have a different rating.

Case of the Cute Car-Kitten

Pardon the alliteration. My mom was about to leave the house when the following took place:

Brother: Come outside quick! My mom wants you!
3baid: Wants me? I'm sure I haven't blocked her car, what could she want?
Brother: There's a cat!
3baid: What about it?
Brother: In the car!

And sure enough...

Mom: Isn't it pretty? That sneaky thing; if I had driven off, it'd be dead by now!
3baid: It's so cute! But how did you spot her? It's so tiny!
Brother: I saw her climb through the tire.

I reached my hand to hold the kitty but it hissed and scratched violently in fear. Right before I could go for a second attempt, it hid itself in a very narrow opening.

Mom: Wallah bilshah! (What a dilemma!) I need to go now or I'll be late!
3baid: Hand me a stick, I'll be able to push her out gently.

It's no use. Kitty won't budge.

We thought of pushing the car towards the inclined part of the garage so that it would be easier to reach it.

The kitten was in an awkward position and we were too scared that it might have got caught or possibly injured. But since we couldn't just leave it there, we had to take a chance.

Brother: We could hose it out with water!

The cold wet kitten simply refused to move!

After several more minutes of more pushing and water spraying, the wet kitten finally slipped through the side and dashed its way across the neighborhood unharmed. How many cats have you saved?

Uptime

Since the day I purchased my iMac, there have been only three reasons why I would turn it off:

I need to relocate it,
I want to upgrade its RAM,
Or there's a software update that requires a restart.

Mind you, I use my Mac extensively everyday -and even during the night, I leave it busy downloading over 15 video podcast episodes rather than putting it off into sleep mode. I also thought I could push it over the edge by using the CPU-intensive Folding@Home app for almost an entire month but all that did was make the fans louder. I've never come across this kind of performance on Windows machines so kudos to Apple for their truly solid platform and reliable hardware.

I'm a Copycat

Sony has a spoof off of Apple's switch ads on their wesbite that claims that the VAIO experience is more enjoyable than that of regular PCs or on Macs.

As great as their laptops are, unless VAIOs come with their own OS, this analogy is practically baseless because they still run Windows!

I think it's pathetic that Sony would stoop that low for an ad. The company remains arrogant despite their continuous problems that started with exploding batteries, up to the more recent lackluster sales of the PSP/PS3, and eventually leading to the removal of Ken Kutaragi. If this sort of attitude continues, Sony could easily fall behind its competitors.
