There is no point at which it becomes irreversible.

Q: Guruji, sometimes i know the solution to the problem although i have never really got an experience of the solution, because of which there are some people who do not listen to my solution. How to make them listen?
A: actually more than a question and answer this was a interesting interaction between the devotee and the Guru.
He said that so you are asking me an indirect question and want me to answer to it directly. (Chuckles)
When you are in that problem and you know that that solution will work then you do that thing at that exact time and place and you get that thing.
There you got an indirect answer to your indirect question.
Then converted that indirect question to direct by asking question to the devotee, are you in love? No? Then are u talking about parents? Yes? Then say like that...
what about them? They are not listening to what you are saying? oh so you have a solution to their problems and they are not listening to you.....ok...so you want to know how to make
them listen to you?

He was playing around with a small gajra of chafha which someone had given me.....
There is a problem here, it is like you are the doctor and know the medicine which will cure the patient, but the patient will not take it.
Then he smiles and says... i am also facing the same problem.... terrorists, naxalites i know what they should do but still they don’t listen....
we are in the boat ...almost! So don’t; worry, you keep saying the same thing and it'll be ok.
He goes on to say that whenever someone comes with a problem to you or when you are advising, it shouldn’t be rigid like this will work for you.
If the opp person is hell bent that nothing is going to work for him then you must suggest that so n so MIGHT work, I have seen it work so you can try and see it MIGHT work for you.
This makes the rigid person in a perspective that ok he is not forcing something on me so i can try and see what is this that he is saying so we are changing the outlook from no to maybe here and leaving it at that. After the maybe you can add that i have never seen it fail!
You have seen this so many times before...all mothers use this on the kids and the kids also coax things out of their parents....

Q: what is peace and how do I get it? I mean spiritual peace i am asking spiritually
A: but I am asking practically to you, have you been to the market? No? You are saying that you have never been to a market? Ok have you been to a noisy place where they play loud music? Ok what happens when you move away from it and come to a quieter place? (He answers that it doesn’t get quieter as the music follows)
ok have to gone to a very noisy place? Yes so what happens when you come back at home and relax? That sign of relief is nothing but peace.
What so you do to someone who is banging your roof for a long time? Please give me some peace? What is peace- it is that moment when you experience relief.
That moment when your mind just rests is called peace, when you sit still and meditate is peace.

Q: personal question about how he was ditched in a love triangle and Guruji had come in his dreams and said "leave her" since then he has avoided her and according to him come back on the path, but he wants to know if he can still be friends as she keeps saying that it was he who she really loved n stuff like that.
A: In between laughter, he said that for some time you can avoid her, till the time you become strong avoid, as if you are vulnerable then you will back to the same place.
About going ahead with her again he said, there is no point in repairing what has happened before as the same story will repeat again so better to move ahead.

Then there was this series of question from the same person about eating non veg as he couldn’t answer his friends when they asked him about plants also being alive.
He first said that you can check out on websites you will get all the info, Jains have done a lot of research on this.
on more pestering he went into a rather long discourse of living things to be of two types...moving n immovable. Do you see vegetables walking around? Do you see kaddus runing around when you go to cut it? Cock runs away, Goat, sheep all of them run when you go to slaughter them. You must look into the eye and then kill; can u look into the eye of a cabbage?
Where are its eyes? Another thing is that pumpkin you throw the seeds and these give you more pumpkin..... It is like that...
he told a story of a country which he wouldn't name where they keep dogs as pets for sometime and then kill it and eat, as someone asked them where is your dog which we saw a few weeks back to which they removed something from the refrigerator.
Essentially one should eat the way they are meant to eat. herbivores have long intestines, elephants, goats, sheep and monkeys as well are veg then why should we eat non veg.
ok if you are eating nonveg why not all the things that are living... eat humans, dogs, cats. No nonveg person will have an answer to that.

He really wanted to meditate and people kept asking him questions so finally he said that we will meditate for a short time and requested people who were leaving to sit for 5-7 mins that we shall meditate for 10 minutes.

Ques and Ans - 3rd JAN,08

Take away 'one liners' from The Master : given on 3rd January-08,Bangalore Ashram!

Guruji: Shoot brilliant questions and take only one liners! (laughter)

Q1: Where do thoughts come from?
Because this question came in your mind, give a pat on your back, know that you
are fortunate. When you enquire where the thoughts come from you become
meditative.

Q2: How do you increase the love?
No Chance, it is full already.

Q3: What is creativity and how to increase it?
Doing something new in everything is creative. I want to be creative, this very
thought will make you creative.

Q4. Guruji I cannot balance seva, family job in my life, can you help?
So you want balance it, is that the question? Just do it. You know how to ride
a bicycle? When you practice, you master, same way you do this also.

Q5. Are there higher energies?
Yes, its there. There is some energy that is governing us. We don't know if
they have any form or name. You know Shiva, means that cannot be expressed.
That which is transcendental. How to express? There is no one like Shiva
sitting there somewhere with eyes closed. It is a tatva and there is a snake
around its neck. Do you know what the snake stands for? Alertness. Its all
depicted in a form.

Q6: Is euthanasia allowed?
Yes it is

Q7: You are so beautiful, that we cant express it!
Hindi: Mein lajawab hun, tum besawal hoo

Q8: So many things are bothering me, cant take a decision. My parents want
something and I want something else.
What is the question, you cant take a decision is that the question? You have a
decision and your parents have another decision. Now I cant take a decision for
you (laugh) then it will be no longer your decision it will be my decision.
That's trouble. Then its my decision vs your parents. What gives you long term
happiness and short term misery is good for you, and that which gives you short
term happiness and long term misery is not good for you. If your parents see
that then you go ahead with that. But if your gut tells you something else,
then you decide with that gut….but if you are still confused, take a pillow and
go to bed….(laughter)

Q9. Do I have enough blessings from you to sustain my whole life
I have already given a blank cheque of blessing to everyone But use it
judiciously. Someone waiting for an auto prays at midnight….Guruji please send
an auto….laughter.
From auto to atmagyan all the blessings are already given. When one desire is
fulfilled, 100 more desires come up. It is only wise to ask for the highest.
You should ask for happiness for all.

Q10: Guruji I have this burning desire to be one with you and that you are
sitting there and I am here, I cant take this separation. I cannot express in
words what is happening to me. I am jealous of Bawa and Dinesh that they are so
close to you. Guruji what can I do to be so close to you. I want to hug you
Guruji.
Its good to have this burning desire, this love is like that, it cannot be
satisfied. The more you get it, it only increases the longing.

Q11: what is the difference between smile and laughter?
You do all the thesis and let me know, so that when another person asks me this
question, I can let them know (laughter)

Q12: Guruji there is so much of problems in this world, like WTO, Bhutto
assignation, you know it all, then why do you it to happen, why cant you stop
it before it happens?
That is why I have created the Art Excel course, the Art of Living course. You
know lack of love makes people commit crime.

Q13: I love you the most, who do you love?
All of you

Q14: Between husband and wife, one is spiritual and one is not, how do you
balance?
Think of all the tricks and tell me which one works so that I can tell
everyone.

Q15: My family is in a debt of Rs 15,00,000/- I don't feel like working and my
mind wants to do seva, what do I do?
No No, if family is in trouble, you must help your family. You must do both,
help them and do seva too. So much employment is available in India, so many
industrialists are coming up and for good people. Lots of opportunities are
available, we have HR department at the ashram, you can make your name to the
HR department. ( humanresources@artofliving.org)

Q16: Guruji, out of all the people in the world, why only a few follow
spirituality?
Lord Krishna said that out of all the people 1000 people think of me and out of
the 1000 people only one reaches out to me. See for example in your class how
many students are there? 400? And out of th 400 how many are here? Only you!

Q17: Why do we need love from everyone, and when we don't get it why do we get
depressed?
Are you depressed now? No. In the process of demanding love, we get depressed.
Live like a big zero. But walk on the right side of the number, because the
numbers are not coming on that side (Laughter)
Q18: Why do we experience bondage in love?
Because love binds you and love binds you from progressing.

Q19: Guruji, is hanging until death the right thing?
No No, it is not the right thing

Q20: Why is there so much poverty in India?
There is so much poverty in India, because of the several attacks India has
faced. The country has been exploited all the times

Q21 Guruji, why don't you become the Prime Minister of this country?
Why do you want to degrade me? (Laughter) I belong to the whole world. Why are
you demoting me to one country?

Q22: Guruji, what is the responsibility of a titcher (teacher)
Titcher (laughter) should not do Kachhar Pachhar (meaning: mess) The
responsibility of a teacher is to spread the knowledge.

Under the full moon - with the master

24th December 2007

Bangalore Ashram

Guruji conducted moonlight meditation… followed by the question and answer session.

Question: Guruji logically there is no reason to be happy. But happy state of mind doesn't follow any logic. Is happiness related to logic?

Guruji: (laughter) The whole exercise in life is to balance the head and the heart. When you are too much into head, u should just let go, and relax, sing and dance. You know your sleep is a gift to you. Do you know that? During sleep the mind gets so much of rest! But meditation is the ultimate rest to your mind.

Question: Guruji, life was becoming weaker and weaker everyday. Then one day you came. You charged up with so much of love and blessings. What is the guarantee that it is going to stay for ever?

Guruji: (laughter) It's a life time guarantee. For many life times. Here u know, the charge never finishes. Its not a disposable cell, what u call it?!!? The sun the moon the starts don't finish. Do they finish? When Lord Krishna said, "I am the sun the moon, the light in the sun… ", people did not understand! The mind is like the rays of the moon. The whole world is made up of one energy. I recently heard something; someone was telling that Einstein had said that, "If u have not studied physics u loose out something, but if you have not studied spirituality you loose out on everything". I totally agree with that. Many are surprised to hear that, but I was not!

Question: Guruji, often I don't realize how seva is happening and sometimes I think I am doing it. Who is it actually who does?

Guruji: Who is the one who is observing? When you focus on that you will know that, First the eyes are seeing, then the mind, then the intellect, go on with this … and you will see that there is nothing! That's why Lord Buddha said "Anaatma". He said, "I could not find the self anywhere, though I searched and searched". Then Lord Shankaracharya came and said, "Its all Maya" temporary". Then he said, "Who is the one who could not find? That is the one"!! He totally turned around the whole picture to a new dimension with a new sentence! You are the one and you are never away from the self! That's why we do, "I am".. Have you done the "I am"process today? Advance course…

During the process you must had several pleasant and unpleasant experience. Its ok.. huh…they come and go, what remains is the self.

Question: Guruji how can I eliminate conflict with my wife. I want to make her happy at the same time cannot agree to everything she says. Can you help?

Guruji: Why do you want a bland life? (laughter) Life should be spicy, interesting. Its absolutely ok to fight! You just tell yourself, today let her scream, I am not going to get angry on her!! You stand like a rock and keep smiling!! See how things turn around! Just one day you do that, and you will see you are so potent to end a conflict or may be begin a new one!! (laughter)!!

Question: Guruji why are there so many spiritual institutions? Do we need so many? Why cannot people follow one institution?

Guruji: No come on… You never ask why are there so many cinema halls? You never ask why are there so many shops, so many restaurants, so many parties?!!? Why do we wear so many different types of cloths!??!?! This question is not relevant at all. There are so many avenues to bring the knowledge. So many different methods to are there to get to the knowledge. Only the Zihadis say such things. We want only one thing! Only one way! Well things may not be the way you want it, but let me tell you they all have their own importance. Rigveda said something beautiful. It said for those who don't believe in him, he is there for them also!! Swami Vivekananda came, he found an institution. Then Rishi Aurobindo came he formed another institution…. We have take up a different way through yoga and meditation…There is no conflict with one another! There is one common thing I think in all and that is meditation.

Question: Guruji I got your blessings today, how long will the blessings last?

Guruji: (Laughter) depends on what you are going to use it for. I am ready to give you a blank cheque. But what will you use it for!??!

Question: Guruji give me bhahma gyan?

Guruji: I am ready to give you and that's what is what you are doing here. Relax and let go. Become hollow and empty. And only when you are hollow and empty you are ready to take it.

Question: How different are you from mother and father?

Guruji: I don't want to get into this conflict. How different am I or how similar am I! You find out all that! Some people find both… so you figure that out.

Question: Guruji what is the best way to serve the society as a future doctor?

Guruji: You know you should keep this question. This is a very good question. How best can I contribute to my society!! But don't try to do something which is not required! (Laughter!!) Have you heard the story of the scout boys? I think I have told it to you before. Ok…ok I'll repeat! There were three scout boys. One day they were given a task to do some service. So they went on the road and were wondering what seva to do?!?! Meantime one of them saw a old lady who was standing across the road. The scout boy came upto her ands asked "Would you like to cross the road?" The old lady said, "No thank you". The scout boy insisted her that she should cross the road! Finally he forced her to cross the road. Meantime the other boy who saw that came running and said, "I am going to drop her back from where she came"> which means the other side of the road. So he forced the old lady to cross the road again. The third boy came running and said "Well I cannot loose out of seva". So he got the old lady to cross the road again!!! (Laughter!!) We have to bring people to knowledge and spirituality and meditation.

Question: Is there a way to handle success without conflict?

Guruji: Yes… yes. You can handle success without any conflict. Because the concept of conflict is there in your own mind. If your mind is free there is no conflict at all!! That's why in Narada Bhakti Sutra it is said, "aatmarata virodhite"… Rejoice in the self without conflict, and that's is real devotion.

:-)

Thanks to Smita Roy(From Ashram)

Aha - A lunch with "Really Fresh Teeth"

Ya,
I know the title must be seeming very strange, but that is true.
During the last stay, Guruji strongly insisted everyone to take good oral care.
Maintaining oral hygiene is very much essential, he said that - not for yourself, but for the person sitting next to you ((especially when you breathe in & out)) :-)

So, for all the ashramites - Dental Check Up/Treatments is going on in a mobile clinic from A.E.C.S. From a car you can see only that far (in your

rear mirror or from the window).

But if you are in a helicopter, you see the whole motor way. So the higher we go in our

own consciousness, broader is our vision. And life is not with one name or one title.

There is so much more than that. So big so vast. But all this you cannot talk to people.

Everybody cannot understand. If someone communicates from a helicopter to someone

in car, and tells him or her that instead of a windy road there is a hill ahead, the person

in the car will start arguing. When they reach there then they agree. But by that time

they forgot what they heard before. That is the thing.

But life is interesting with all suspense and thrills. And in art of living we take

everything with a smile with a joy.

You heard about the terrorist attack in London?

London is shut down. Like 9/11 in New York. Bombs in all metros. 700 people injured.

Al kayda, jihadis struck London. There was also news that Art of living volunteers are

ready with the trauma and stress relief work. We did not need any opportunity like this.

But that is the nature. Remember, I mentioned that this will happen in Europe.

See as I said there are activists (women, human rights and other whatever) these have

many times so much anger. They are not acting with strength and conviction but out of

anger (which is weakness). But the beauty of those who can keep calm yet be active that

is really what is. You are not disturbed. You are calm and yet you are active. You want

justice for women but you are not angry with men who do not want to give justice. This

is a new concept of being proactive without being violent. I say the foremost principle is

that everyone should honor non violence. Non violence not in books but in life. To

counter violence through non violence and not through violence. Because violence will

lead to a chain of violence. This needs real wisdom. How to counter violence through

non violence. That strength, wisdom, spirituality is all essential. That will work.

Q:What do you mean by violence?

A:What? You do not know what is violence.

Q:I do not know.

A:Really? Do you really don't know what violence is. Seeing on the TV you will know.

Anything that is done with a feeling of hatred. You know what is hatred. Then you will

know what is violence.

Anything that you do to harm life for none of their mistake for no apparent gain is

violence.

Just action is not violence. The attitude is violence. When you walk you are walking and

there are many ants underneath your feet, you breath and many bacteria die this is not

called violence. Violence is an inner attitude of frustration, dissatisfaction, hurt and

wound that comes outside with strong negative attitude or emotion. So it is an attitude.

Then in response to another question GURU JI said "Can I take leave from this meeting.
You should give some casual leave."
Then everybody said, no "You are inspiring."
and
GURU JI replied "But I may start perspiring."

You know something. That Russian military has done Art of living course. Do you want
to see the film? Did you see it in the advanced course? OK. Then we will see that
tomorrow. How many of you have seen the tape? What does it say? Are all happy? Is
there good sharing in that? All militaries across the world should do it. That is good no?
The Russians like to experiment. It was not an easy thing to get into Russian military.
But our teachers did not take a no and went ahead. I was in Kremlin. I talked to them.
First time in 80 years spiritual discourse happened inside Kremlin. That is the place
where they took the decision to bring Soviet Union together. That is good. World is
opening more and more to spirituality. And they have to, because spirituality is not a
fantasy or a hobby. It is a solid reality of life. Usually people think it is just sort of a
luxury, pass time, something in the corner without which life can go on, just a vanity
bag, without which you can exist. But that is not the case now. This is the basic reality
in life, truth about life. So much needed everywhere in the world whether rich or poor
everyone needs to have that blossoming. Softness of heart and strength of mind, focused
awareness and happy life. Isn't it?

New Year with a Sankalpa, From Guruji

Tonight, as HE leaves for Germany,,
He gave His New Year message for channels in various languages...
of course His ONE language is c a r e

Giving blessings for the new year, He said in celebration there is 'utsah' -
enthusiasm and
with that also arises a Sankalpa,
HE said this New Year let us all take a Sankalpa
1. To conserve water
2. To plant trees and some vegetables/pulses - there is such shortage of food
in the world
Plant trees - we give out impure air - these trees purify air
So to reduce pollution, it is imperative to plant trees

Let's spread His message at all our Satsang groups
for this New Year resolution..
Jai GuruDev!

Q & A Part 2 "Ashram Bangalore" (Nov 23-25)

(On the previous day Guruji had asked for 'intelligent' questions)
Q: Guruji when we see you we get very feverish. Please don't call this an
unintelligent question.
A: That is not even a question, is it? It's a statement! Yes, it is apparent
(laughing) that there is feverishness. I have come to accept it now.
And people don't realize that when you bend down to touch my feet - the person
behind thinks there is no one in front and bends down also and soon we have a
pile of people (laughter) Sometimes when I am walking very fast and devotees
are trying to touch my feet - it gets very tricky - a few times I have escaped
tripping. It's been very close.

Q: Something about thoughts during meditation
A: Don't be dissappointed if you have thoughts during meditation. Just embrace
the thoughts - don't resist them. Don't feel 'Oh I didn't meditate well today'
- just embrace the thoughts. Accept them.

Q: All that you have achieved - do you look at it as your achievement, a gift
of God, part of nature?
A: I would say - it is a gift of God. Everyone has a role to play, that's all.
Everything in this universe has a role to play - that is actually the essence
of advaita. There is One Consciousness and everything in it is part of That.
See, to make something important you need many things that are unimportant. So
you can say that the unimportant things are important to make the important
things important! Got it? (laughter)

Q: What do you find challenging or something that you don't like?
A: When people who are not intelligent but think they are intelligent ask
questions that they think are intelligent but are not really intelligent.
Unfortunately in today's world such people have a lot of influence - it's sad.

Q: Have you ever committed a mistake?
A: (Smiles) Have I ever committed a mistake? (Chuckles) Sometimes I wonder why
I started all this (puts head back and laughs)

Q: How come some negative actions have a positive result
A: Yes, it is possible. Each negative action can have some positive associated
with it - depending on the way you look at it. Karma is not knowable - in the
Geeta Krishna tells Arjuna this - that Karma is so deep that it cannot be known
- see if you plant a coconut tree - it may take fruit in three years - with
mango trees - it can be a different number of years - if you plant moon - it
will sprout overnight and if you put your hand in the fire - when you will feel
the pain - immediately, no? So karma can be immediate or take some time - it is
very deep and it is unknowable.

Q: What was before the Big Bang?
A: Read this book called "The Parallel Universe" by Michael Kokoc. He talks
about the dark energy - e.g. look at the two stars in the sky - they are
separated by space - so he says that there is a great energy that is keeping
the two stars apart. This is dark energy - and we are aware of only 0.03
percent of the actual universe. It's there in his book - read it. I have only
read 3-4 pages (laughs) but you can read more...

Q: Guruji, I have dreams that come true at times. A few days ago I dreamt that
my mom had died and when I called home - I found that my pet had died. This
disturbs me a lot. What should I do?
A: See, dreams are a mix of our fears, desires, some events or impressions of
the past, some premonitions of the future - so don't be too involved in them.
Just move on.

Q: Guruji, People are very worried at my home that something is wrong. They
asked me to consult you.
A: Haan, don't worry. Just ask the people in the house to change Om Namah
Shivaya - don't worry. Ok?

Q: What is Maya? What is reality?
A: Anything that can be measured is Maya. So whatever you see can be measured,
right? You can say two kilo grams of rice, one litre of water and so on. But
can you measure love? Can you say two units of love? Three pounds of Truth? No?

Q: (the following day there is a follow-up) But even negative emotions cannot
be measured - like misery, frustration.
A: Haan. Yes. But if you look at it. Darkness cannot be measured but darkness
is just the absence of light. Unhappiness is not truth. Your true nature is
love, joy, bliss. That's why I say "fake it till you make it" - it's not wrong
to say that. Because you are faking it right now. Your true nature IS joy, is
bliss. Your problems are not true, your misery is not your true nature - so in
fact when you are sad you are faking it!

Q: We are with you in 2007? Where will you be in 2107? I want to play with you
even then.
A: You are asking in front of all these people. Everyone may get the same idea
(laughs) Where will I be in 2107? I am not so foolish as to make plans for 2107
now. All my plans are made done spontaneously in the present moment.

Q: I am confused? Should I pray to God for what I want or let God decide what
is good for me? What is the right thing?
A: No, it's fine to pray for what you want but also say that if there is
something better than this for me, please let me have that. (laughter) You can
do both!

JaGuDe!
Enjoy the feasts!

Satsangs via posts !

(Missed satsangs are being posted now ... keep watching )
These are from the AMC at the B'lore ashram. (laughs) when you are completely
relaxed, the action that springs from that is intelligent action - when you can
do little but achieve a lot that is smart work..

(Thanks to Sushil Ji..)
JaGuDe!

With GuruDev, In Bangalore Ashram

With GuruDev , Bangalore Ashram!!

*Questions and Answers*

*Question:* Guruji what quality of the Buddha appeases you the most?

*Guruji:* If you look at Buddha's life nothing seems unappealing to you.
Even with Sri Rama and the same with Bhagwan Mahavira!! They all lived in
Satwa, and in total Satwa everything that we do is perfect, every action and
every thought. Your whole existence becomes an example.

*Guruji talks on the Vedas:*

The story of the Vedas happened like this that, Ved Vyasa, one of the most
venerable ancient Guru, went to Brahma for knowledge. Brahma showed him the
entire mountain of knowledge and said, "take whatever you can"! Vyasa went
to the huge mountain but it was impossible for anyone to carry the whole
mountain. He took whatever he could by his hands. There came out the four
Vedas!! They are the Rig veda, Shama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda. In
the Vedas again there are several sub division. There are 18 Angas. Like the
astrology(jotishsha stra), the grammar(vayakarana) , the karanas(logic) ,
Chandashastra (Music), Virukta (words), Kalpa, siksha. And again in the
Shiksha there are 6 upangas. They are Vaisheshik darshana, Sankhya Darshana,
Yoga darshana, Karmadarshana etc.

And in the Yogashastra, there was one called Patanjali, who attained the
height in the yoga. He was the master of the Yogashastra. When we say Yoga,
we just don't mean a few asanas(exercises) , we mean uniting. When the mind
unites with the soul, when the body unites with the breath, and when the
soul unites with the paramatma, yoga happens.

There is this story on Maharshi Patanjili. There were thousands of disciples
of Maharshi Ptanjali. One day they were all at the session with Maharshi.
Maharshi had a rule that there will be a curtain in between Maharshi and the
student. No one was supposed to see the Maharshi. This continued. The
students were taking knowledge from the preceptor and the preceptor
showering the knowledge to the disciples. One day something happened! One of
the students wanted to go to the toilet. He thought why disturb the Guru
anyway the Master will not able to see (since there was a curtain in between
them)!! He silently slipped off the class and went to the toilet. On the
other hand, among the rest of the students, one felt the terrible urge to
see the Maharshi. He whispered to the other fellow disciples that they
should see their teacher, and the teacher being all compassionate will
definitely forgive them and will not be upset on then.

So suddenly one of the disciples got up and removed the curtain. And as he
removed the curtain off, there happened a terrible disaster!! Everyone who
were present there turned into ashes!! All the disciples who were present
infront of the Maharshi Patanjali just turned into ashes!! In the meantime
the only disciple who had gone out to the toilet returned. Maharshi told the
student that he had done a great mistake by going out of the class without
the preceptor's permission!! And now the boy has to undergo a curse!!
Maharshi cursed him to be a Demon(Brahmadaitya) and that he should sit on a
tree and write down all that he learned from Patanjali. The boy immediately
turned to a demon and went up the tree and started writing that entire he
learnt from the Maharshi. He was writing on the leaves of the tree. It is
said that there was a goat sitting at the base of the tree. The disciple who
turned a demon kept writing on the leaf and throwing each leaf on the ground
and the goat started eating all the leaves one by one!!

Now who are those disciples who turn to ashes? Why did they turn to ashes?
Why was that only disciple saved? Why did he become a demon? Why was he
asked to write all that he learned? Why the goat did eat away all the
leaves? These are the questions that you should think and ponder.

There are two kinds of disciplines.

A) Sashana

B) Anusashana

Sashana is some discipline which someone else impose on you. Like you pay
taxes. (laughter) Most of the times you like to avoid such rules. Given a
chance you would like to break the rules.

Anusashana is self discipline. When you impose on yourself. Like you brush
your teeth! No body is going to fine you or take you by hand coups if you
violate the rule. You may loose some teeth maximum that may
happen!!(Laughter! !) Like fasting on Saturdays, or Mondays or some people
don't eat sour taste on the Friday for the sake of the Santoshimaa! ! This is
something that you inspire yourself to do. Do you see what I am saying? That
is anusashaana.

So the first sutra of the Patanjali Yoga Sutra says "Ataha Yoganusashana"

The second sutra says, "Tada yoga chitty Bitti Nirodaha"

There are seven levels of existence. The body, the breath, the mind and
memory, intellect ego and the self. In the mind there is memory. Even when
we close our eyes, we are thinking so much about the other events. Events
that has already happened. Like again in the dream. In the mind when the
thought stops flashing, yoga happens!

The third sutra of Maharshi Patanjali is "Tada drishte swaroope avasthanam"

You know many years back in Karnataka, when villagers used to go for watching
a movie, they used to get so involved with what was happening in the movie!!
Like if the hero was getting beaten up they would be throwing stones on the
screens and sometimes go ahead and tear off the screen itself!! (Laughter!!)
The women would do the entire make up and when they come to the movie and
see that their favorite heroin is in trouble and crying, even they start
crying!! Their entire make up goes off! (Laughter!!) They get so much
involved with the movie. Do see this?

So when the focus shifts from the scenery to the seer, from the object that
you are watching to the one who is watching, yoga happens.

Anybody has any questions?

*Question:* Guruji you mentioned in Asthavakra Gita that gandhiji preached
non violence but he died a violent death. That may be what he believed in
his life. But Guruji even Jesus died a violent death while he was preaching
only compassion and a love and non violence to people. Why is that?

*Guruji:* You know its not just one life. It's about several live times.
Life has many many forces! Also because it carries a lot of impression of
the past!!

*Question: *Guruji what is the relation between Panchakosha and seven layers
of existence?

*Guruji:* You find the relation and tell me. (laughter!) Find whatever
relation you want to!! It is related. Like the Anandamayee kosha is the
inner most in 7 layers but in the Panchakosha it is the outermost.

*Question: *Guruji how can I see you in everyone and everything?

*Guruji:* No need to see me in everyone and anything! Just be natural and be
yourself!! That's enough!

*Question:* Guruji how to be centered?

*Guruji: *First find out what is it that is taking you off the centre?
Living in the present moment keeps you in the centre. When you say "oh that
person has behaved with me like this etc, he is no good", know that you are
not in the centre. Centered means free from opinion. If you have a fight
with someone and the next moment can you go and again stand in front of that
person and forget about the old fight? It's ok if you pick up a new fight!
(Laughter!!) Because if you are picking up the old fight, knows that you are
not centered. Life is a mixture of everything, pleasant and unpleasant. If
you are sticky with the pleasant or unpleasant then you are not centered.
You know people who can love intensely can also hate intensely. It's just an
emotional swing. When you can go beyond love and hate, you can truly be
centered. You everything has its opposite. Like love has its opposite as
hate. Pleasant has its opposite as unpleasant. Only devotion has no
opposite. Having devotion is being centered. Let it be anything. It could be
your devotion towards science, music, to your parents, children, wife, and
husband. Then you are centered!

*Question:* Guruji how to let go in the mind when someone insults you?

*Guruji:* When you see your whole life as a dream then you experience
freedom. Your intellect experiences freedom. And you are very witty when
your mind is free. Have you all experienced being witty at some point of
time in your life? In such a state, you are not angry, you are not
ambitious, and you are not obsessed and fearful. So what is the state of
your mind then? You are calm. So in such a situation, when someone is
actually insulting you, you can be witty, and turn the whole situation! So
it neither affects you nor does it affect the other person!!

Guruji's schedule till mid of March'08

Guruji's schedule (His Holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar)

<table style="background-color: rgb(240, 240, 240); Is interaction possible without ego?

Ans : Yes, it’s possible. Interaction between mother and a child is an example. There is supposed to be no ego between husband-wife. Ego is necessary in case of business and politics. In military there is no ego for the seniors but it exists for their subordinates.

Q. Guruji, We did some good karmas so we got you. But what karmas did you do, so you got us? J

(Laughter)Life is mixture of sand and sugar. Wise picks up sugar as an ant. If you find someone as fool then either you can uplift him or you can get angry. It’s up to you.

Q. What is significance of tortoise in a temple?

Ans: It signifies the tendency to go inward. A series of lamps is kept on his back which tells that when one goes inward knowledge dawns in him.

Alert !

Guruji has told everyone to take extra care while driving vehicles on
17th and 18th of November 2007.

Patanjali, Revisited!

Today, 12th Nov- 2007, Patanjali Yoga Sutras were visited again.. Here what we understood, not the exact verbatim!

One third of our life we spend sleeping, one third in dreaming and day dreaming. We hardly spent any time in present moment except our childhood. Though we have been sleeping for quite a long time but we didn’t get to know about our sleep and our dreams. We never shook hand with our sleep.

When we are dreaming we are somewhere else, when we dream we are at other place,

We live in three Pur (City)

Awake

Sleep

Dream

There is no need to analyze your dreams, nowadays there is a new research going on dreams in America. I’ll say it’s useless. We are sleeping 6-8 hours a day but we don’t know our sleep. Some people sleep even 10 hours or more. Do you see a child sleeping! How innocently he sleeps, do you see?

But a yogi should sleep for 4-6 hours.

Some people can’t even sleep. They would be lying down on bed while tired and in tensions, and would not know when they go into sleep. And when they get up same things again pop up in mind.

If we can know about sleep we can experience that state of Samadhi. It’s not very difficult as sometime we feel while reading scriptures. We had that state when we were child.

Every moment Diwali

Guruji’s Diwali message

“We don’t have to get satisfied with lighting one lamp, We have to light thousands of lamps. Not only one person but also everyone should have smile on their face”

Significance of Diwali

There are four aspects of this festival

1. Laxmi puja ( worship the goddess of wealth)

Inner meaning of it is honoring the wealth you have, We spend the whole time in acquiring wealth and some time we may not even aware of how much we have? So this day we take all that we have and become grateful for what all we have. We feel that abundance in ourselves. When we feel abundance, more come to us. There are 8 types of wealth and nine types of “nidhis”. Water and earth are wealth. And we honor them by not polluting them, not using pesticides.

2. Firecrackers

We accumulate lots of anxieties, frustration, anger. So our heart burst out with the explosion and we become friendly.

3. Sweet and Gift exchange

The inner meaning is that feel the sweetness in you. And speak with sweet voice.

4. Lightening

Light the lamp of talents in you. If you do seva, then learn singing, If you are a singer then do sdadhana and so on. Light the lamp of knowledge, meditation.

Before that we had a wonderful pooja and then unique meditation.

Q. Guruji, What are 8 wealths and nine nidhis?

Sri Sri: I have spoken about it in ashtalakshmi cassette.

Q. I find difficulty in accepting your ways?

Sri Sri: We have mainly five points

i. Accept people as they are

ii. Live in present moment

iii. Don’t be football of others opinion.

iv. Don’t see intention behind other’s mistakes.

So if you are happy not following these points then don’t follow it, but smile. Only thing I care of is your smile.

Guruji said, for fool diwali come once a year but for wise people every moment is diwali.

Q. What we can do for Global warming.

Sri Sri: Plant more and more trees, Consume less fuel.

If anyone remember some more please send it to us

Questions, Answered - Diwali Feast!

8 November, 2007 10:20:04 AM
Q & A with Guruji!

Q: How can I be assured of salvation and a perfect life on this planet?
Sri Sri: You need a warranty on the spiritual path also, don't you?!
Examine how much time you spend on the spiritual path...
Evaluate the seva (service) you are doing...How much are you
meditating? There should be a balance between seva and meditation.
Those who do a lot of service get burnt out, if they don't make time
for meditation, and those, who only meditate, become 'dry', if they
don't make time for service. So you need both - service and
meditation.

Q: What is the best way to reach bliss?
Sri Sri: What is the best way? - One is, by meditating, and the other,
is by serving the people around you - by getting into some service
activity. You know the technique to get depressed is to sit and only
think: "What about me? What about me?" - all the time! That's good
enough to get thoroughly depressed! Seeing God within you is
meditation. Seeing God in the people around you is love, is service.
They go hand-in-hand.

Q: How to pray? I was raised in a non-religious environment.
Sri Sri: Meditation is the best form of prayer. In meditation you
surrender, you say let thy will be done. You may light a candle, chant
Om Namaha Shivaya.

Q: What is more important - career or family?
Sri Sri: When you watch TV, what is more important - the scenes or the
sound? Both! One supports the other. Similarly, when one has no
family, what is use of a career? Career is for supporting one's
family. To support oneself, a career is not required. Likewise, when
one has no career, how can one support one's family?

Q: How can we change our karma?
Sri Sri: By experience and wisdom, and some karma you just have to
overcome it and work through it. Strange are the ways of Karma. The
more you understand it, the more amazed you become. It brings people
together and separates them. It causes some to be weak and some to be
strong. It makes some rich and some poor. All the struggle in the
world, whatever it may be, is the bondage of Karma. It cuts across all
logic and reasoning. This understanding will lift you from getting
stuck to the events or personalities and help you in your Journey to
the Self.

Q: So a thief can say it is my karma to steal?

Answer: Then the police have the karma to catch him too!
Only human life has the ability to be free from Karma. And only a few
thousands aim to be free from it. Only through Grace can the bondage
of Karma be burnt. Performing actions cannot eliminate Karma.

Q: How to overcome homesickness?
Sri Sri: See, I consider that every tree in the planet is in my
garden. When the whole world is your family, there can be no
homesickness. Feel always at home -- it is all your attitude.

Q: Are faith and belief the same?
Sri Sri: Belief is a little diluted, faith is little strong, more
concrete. Our beliefs can change, faith is firm. Faith is yogurt,
belief is buttermilk. Like a child has faith in the mother, the child
does not make the mother into an object of knowing. The child does not
try to know the mother, it simply has faith in the mother. When you
have faith, what is the need to know it? You cannot make love an
object of knowing, if you try to make love an object of knowing, if
you try to know it, it will disappear.

In the same way you cannot make Self, or God an object of knowing.
God, love, sleep, and Self are beyond knowing. If you try to analyze,
doubt comes in and faith will disappear. So whatever you want to have
faith in, do not want to know it or analyze it. The moment you make
something an object of knowing then analysis starts and then doubt
follows. Analysis creates a distance, synthesis brings it together.
Faith is synthesis, knowing is analysis.

Q: Why bad people are happy and good people are suffering?
Sri Sri: This is an illusion. It appears that the bad people are
enjoying. But I tell you it is temporary. Good people need not be
foolish. They can be intelligent. If someone says I put my finger in
the fire because I was so good, I tell you it is foolishness. Good
merits will give good result one day be sure of that.

Q: Which is better, to thank deeply or superficially?
Sri Sri: No, superficially. Thanking needs a separation. Thanking
means there are two. If you are deeply thankful, it means you deeply
feel the separation. Deep within there is no need to thank, because
there is one-ness. But superficially you can thank. Thanks are like
ripples on the surface of the water.

When you say "Thank you," you complete something. You are finishing a
transaction, a relationship, a process. "Thank you" is like "good
bye." You can complete all transactions at a surface level, but deeper
inside is only one-ness.

Thankfulness always exists in relation to something else. You don't
thank for nothing at all, you thank for something. But in this case,
something is less than nothing!

At the deepest level, thanking has no meaning. Does one hand thank the
other hand? The deeper you go, you see there is no "other" to be
thanked.

Q: How come enlightened masters come from the East, especially India?
Sri Sri: It seems to happen like that. There is no reason. There was a
time that lots of merchants came from Europe. And there was a time
that lots of Scientists came from west. In America, there are lots of
Oak trees. If we ask why, what can we say? It seems to happen that
way. East seems to provide Enlightened Masters. But an Enlightened
Master himself doesnt belong to East or West. He belongs to the whole
world. His knowledge is universal !

Q: What is difference between Skill and Manipulation?
Sri Sri: That is a good question. In manipulation, there is
bad/horrible intention. In skill, there is good intention. In
manipulation, there is guilt. In manipulation, you are not honest to
yourself. When skillful, you get a pat from your heart "Go ahead...".
You are honest, when skillful. In skill, your heart will not prick
you. But finally, ONLY YOU know whether you are skillful /
manipulative.

Jai Gurudev
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ----
(Contributed by :Jyothsna)

Thanks Jyothsna, :-)

Patanjali YogaSutras - Live!

We're fortunate!

Listening to Guruji on Patanjali YogaSutras, live!
Exploring the depths of Yoga in his gracious presence is so beautiful.

And thus Yoga sutras are continued:

Talked about Abhyasa or practice.

Habits are nothing but practices done over a period of time so that become your nature.
Good as well as bad practices take time to become habits. The only difference is that bad practices take less amount of time ot become habits. No one likes smoking when they fag for the first time. It is only habituating yourself over a period of time that you really start liking it.
Restraining of thought waves is called dispassion or which you need a lot of practice or abhyasa over a long period of time.

Lalsa kab paida hoti hain, when we smell something. If you want to create the lalsa then you show something that is seen and heard to them. Your mind hibernates when in greed, when your mind has the 'tadap'(longing) towards the materialistic things then it is called a-vairagya (non dispassion). This is because the 'trishna'(longing) is not in our control. When it is in our control then it is called vairagya (dispassion).

Vairagya is like finding treasure in ourselves then there is no need for bothering about things outside. Like when you have 'gulabjamun' then you will not bother about sugar, when you have sunlight then you will not bother about the lamp.

There was a saint who was asked by someone whether he remembers them or not. To which the saint replied that 'muje mere bare main sochne se fursad nahi hain to main aapko kaise yaad karu?'

A sentence which says a lot – 'khud vyakti ke hone par koi parchai kyon dekhega?' (If we're having someone in person, why we'll look for his shadow?) This is called para vairagya which is of the highest quality.

Smashan vairagya is low quality when the things which we do not get we say that we anyways don't need it.

Q: Someone from Corporate Workshop asked that AOL has a lot of research done on the Sudarshan Kriya and other aspects of effect of breath on body and health then why is it not called Science of Living?

Guruji: Look, Art is common to everybody. 6 billion people in the world and out of that atleast 5.99 billion people listen to music or watch movies or enjoy some form of art. Fortunately or Unfortunately he told the Patanjali Yog sutras in Kannada and we were still all smiles and GAGA at the end of it.

The English session began with a question like -
In Astavakra Geeta,Mahatma Gandhi is said to have preached non violence but it is also said that he was very violent on himself/ his body. His death was also very violent. Vishal added that it is similar to Jesus's death, which was also very violent.

Do not know what question he was trying to ask (:-)) but Guruji's reply was like an exclamation mark, "This is for you to Ponder"

Second question followed and this was also related to Astavkra ," It has been mentioned that if you are caught in some sensory pleasure then you are bound but also those are bound who are against it. Is the same applicable to those who are against alcoholism, poverty etc? Gurudev answered: there is a difference between being against something and hating something. If you hate something then you are bound. The Kannada session began again with bits of the Sanskrit in it about the sutras. The again we started in English The TTC of SRI SRI yoga had another question where the relationship between the panchkoshas and the 7 layers of existence was explored?Admist giggles the answer was," you can make a relation wherever you want, All koshas are anyways interrelated. You can play with the relations as much as you want.

Q: What is that which we should be doing so that we see you in everyone?

Guruji: Question was interrupted and answered that you should not try and see me in everyone.
Don't try to do anything, just be natural and innocent as you are (sahajta se) and that will suffice .

Q: How to become centered?
Guruji: See what is it that is taking you out of the center. Living in the present moment is being centered. Holding anything against in your mind makes you decentered. Being free from opinions is being centered. Like when you have a fight, can you go to the person immediately after the fight with a smile without thinking what he or she will say and smile at them and start a new fight? That is being centered. Going from Gyana to Prema, Bhakti and love. Devotion has no opposite that gets you to the center, love has hatred but devotion has no opposite and that is why it takes you to being centered. When you see life as a dream then how can you live it like a perfectionist? When there is freedom to see the past present and future as a dream then your mind is free and your intellect sharpens.
Do you notice when you are witty what is the state of your mind. Dull person or sad person can never be witty, your mind needs to be free so that you can be witty which is nothing but a sharp intellect. Everyone must have experienced this sometime or the other.
See the people who commit crime can never be free, they don't have feelings for others, no compassion. They dont know that happiness is in them and to be free is going more into yourself and realizing that you are Joy and you are Happiness.

Patanjali Yog Sutra:It is a story about Ved Vyas who goes to Lord Brahma and asks to be given some Knowledge. Brahma then gives him the Vast Himalayas and asks him to take how much ever you can take.

So Vyas then takes how much ever he could with his four hand and thus were the four veds formed: Sangitha, Aranya, Brahman and Upanishads.
Sangitha is that which is born out of what the Rishis said when they went deep in meditation and their words were heard and then written thus it was called Shruti- suna hua gyan ( Knowledge which is born from hearing from others)
From the Sangitha the other three Veda's were born. Then there were the Up Vedas and the 6 upangs. Veda is from the upang which is the Patanjali Yog Sutra. Story goes that Patanjali Rishi used to teach around thousand children in the gurukul. There used to be a curtain between him and the students. He used to teach from behind the curtain. Soon there was curiosity that arised in the minds of the students and one fine day they peeked beyond the curtain. As soon as they did that there was a blinding light, which destroyed all of them. All but one, as he had gone on a nature's break so he was saved. Rishiji told him that he was lucky that he was not with them but none the less he will be punished. So he was made into the Brahma Rakshas and was told to sit and write of whatever he had been taught by him. So he sat on the tree and wrote everything on the leafs which then fell down and were eaten by a goat.
Now it is a Paheli which needs to be solved by us as to:
Why all the 999 were destroyed?
Why were they destroyed?
Why not the one who left the class?
Why make him brahma rakshas ?
Why make him sit on tree top and write on leaves?
Why does the goat eat the leaves?First sutra was:
Anushasan : Which means the Shashan which is made out of our will. Generally shasan is rules put by others, which is then not followed fully with 100% and these are the rules, which we try to defy. Thus there should be anushasan. Lucky is the one whose Anushasan is Yog.
Yog is about freeing your mind, ego and intellect from the past impressions.

Acha why do you need to clean this mind every time? Its like a slate and the impressions are like chalk on it. Like in the school if without using the duster you have the English class and the science and then the geography and the math as well then firstly you should be able to write all the classes and even if you achieve that then you really don;t know anything as it is impossible to make things out. Like we use the duster we need to clean or free our mind of this confusion. and freeing your mind of this confusion is called Yog.
You should shift from seeing the view to the viewer. So that you can experience happiness.
Here he said a beautiful thing. Like in a movie there are people who get so involved that they also start crying. That is getting caught in the view, people get so involved that they tear the screen if something doesn't happen the way they want it to be.
So one should come back to the viewer for bliss ( Anand swaroop) .Then He did a revision of Patanjali Yog Sutra.
Aho......

There can't be a dull moment in The Art Of Living

Glimpses of Satsang on 31st Oct,2007.

For us, it was totally a surprise visit of guruji to the ashram and that gives so wonderful feeling when we see him in satsang.
Satsang is filled up with glory, as he moves in! And slowly he takes us to the Knowledge Ride, which is full of fun today...

Someone asks Gurudev regarding his trip to Bombay..
He says : Just Guess, how many programs did I attend yesterday? After a few guesses, he reveals, “14 programs”.. from morning 6 to night 10:30 .. !!
(And as you know, still he was bubbling with joy, smiles and enthusiasm)

Then some fabulous Q-A session goes on like this :

Someone asked guruji about Shiv linga to which he answered:
" linga has two meanings, one is the genitals and it also means symbol or something which symbolizes. Like when you look at a newborn baby the only thing, which tells you whether the baby is a boy or a girl is the genital. That is why it is called linga.
That is the place, which symbolizes the genesis of the being. Similarly one cannot see the divine, it cannot be experienced through the five senses, so to give it a symbol the same linga was used and thus we have the shiv lingam in this particular shape.
There should be a certain amount of sacredness to the lingam so the norms of pati vrata and monogamy were introduced in the religion so that people will respect it with some sacredness. The people who you see are promiscuous do not respect this aspect at all and that is why you have prostitution in the society.
Same person then asks why Shiva was the destroyer and how come Vishnu and Shiva are the same.
Shiva and Vishnu are so to speak two different avatars, but essentially they are the same.
There is no two. Shiva is shankara, which means peace and doing good to all.
Peace is also brought sometimes by destroying.
Someone else asked about how imp it is to eat, Maharaji doesn't eat anything other than ice and banana's?
Guruji goes on to explain that a true yogi is someone who can be balanced.
Not eating too much and not eating anything at all will make you loose your focus in your sadhana. Not eating will increase your Pitta and eating too much will increase your Tamas.
Similarly about sleep, enough sleep is necessary. There are people who don't sleep at all and there are some who sleep a lot. Both is not good.
A true swami is a person who has control over his tongue and mind.
If the mind gives everything what the tongue asks then there is no control.
You keep feeding yourself whatever your stomach asks you that means you have no control over your tongue and if you have no control on this then you should forget about having control over anything else.
He then told a story how he is fed so many times by different people and all will say that it is a small bite for him to take and he lands up having small bites of half a gulabjamun from 5 different people.
Once he knew he will be forced to have lunch so he skipped breakfast and he was hungry when for the lunch they served him only rice and dal as someone had said he likes plain food. The entourage with him was also very hungry and all they got was rice and dal in the plate. Then they asked what the others had eaten and out came all the veggies and other stuff.
There was another time when he already had dinner and was visiting someone in England; he was not hungry till he entered the house. By the time the food was brought from the kitchen to the hall where he was sitting he started feeling hungry.
So one should not do what maharaji is doing. We should do what he teaches and not try to imitate him. Similarly don't try and be like Krishna, bhari padega, krishna ne bataye hue raste pe chalo, usko banne ki koshish mat karo. Log bote hain dekho guruji ko, ek din main chowdah chowdah programs karte hain main bhi karunga. Yeh sab mat karo.

Yogi is a person who can walk the path between the two extremes.

Knowledge under the shadow of moonlight

Oh my lord, all the Icons are born in October.

It was Swami Brahmtej ji’s turn to celebrate his birthday with Sri Sri.

Satsang was in Amphi Theater. Cool breeze was blowing. Sweet Tamil and Hindi bhajans were being played. Moon was spreading its light all around the ashram. Celebration and peace could be felt at same time. Knowledge session in such a climate was giving deep relaxation to mind and energizing body.

Q. Guruji, Why sharad poornima is called “Moh Ratri” ?

Ans: Because it’s so beautiful everyone gets mohit (tempted).

Q. In all spiritual paths there are certain concepts which do not make us feel free forever?

Ans: When you get bound then only you feel freedom. So in order to feel freedom it’s great to realize freedom again and again.

Q. Guruji, What is Viparya?

Ans: When your mind thinks something wrong and than it bothers you, is called Viparya.

You would have felt sometime. You would think that your friend has thought something wrong about you and finally you discover that this fellow didn’t have time to even think about you. :) Here we can also understand Vikalpa. It means totally imaginary which can not exist. Like lotus in sky etc. Vikalpa is something that can not be real while Viparya is something, that you are sure, is there but actually not.

Q. Guruji Why all Dashavatar are male?

Ans: All the scriptures must be written by men. :-) But you see they have come out of nail of mother divine. This is called consciousness.

Q. Guruji, It is said that on the day of sharad poornima, Krishna took as many forms as number of gopis and danced with them. What is your plan?

Ans: You were already dancing. We would do meditation. Dance we have done.

A drop of contentment

Today is the day when a wave remembered its ocean.
Today is birthday of a man of celebration, our lovely… cutie.. Rishi Nityapragyaji (Nitin Bhaiya). And I saw that joy in and around VM. Angels were waiting to see that. Guruji cut the cake gave it to Prasanna ji and Nitin Bhaiya.

We got to listen to some new interesting points.

Q. Guruji, You asked us to offer all the negativities into fire of yagya. I felt relaxed doing so, But after sometime problems appeared again. Is there any permanent way to get rid of it?
Ans: Ok, Tell me one thing. Do you get satisfied by eating once? Do you never want to sleep once you had enough of it? Your body needs cleaning time to time as it gets dirty. So what to say about mind, It would get dirty sooner.

Q. Guruji, What are good karmas and bad karmas. Does “Chitragupta” really exist, who takes care of our karma account?
Ans: You see the meaning of name “Chitragupta”. “Chitra” means “image” and “Gupta” means “secret”. So what ever you do, it leaves an image or impression in your mind somewhere hidden. But when you do “sadhana” then all images are vanished. An elephant’s footstep’s impression would cover all other animal’s footstep’s impression. Same way sadhana would cover all the impression.

Q. Jai Gurudev, Few days back you commented “What you see is only 0.003% of existence” Can you throw some more light on this?
Ans: There is one scientist “Michio Kaku” who wrote a book “Parallel Worlds: A Journey Through Creation, Higher Dimensions, and the Future of the Cosmos” You should read this as it says that there is dark energy in this entire creation which is not visible and governs the world. Like you can not see your thoughts but they are very powerful and make things happen. This enormous energy which you see in universe (sun, stars etc) is only 0.003% of what you can see.

Q. Guruji, Where is Hanumanji nowadays?
Ans: He has entered into your breath nowadays. Rama is self. Sita is mind. Ravana is ego. Laxman is alertness or consciousness. So with the help of Hanuman and Laxman (Breath and Consciousness) Rama (Self) would meet with Sita (mind) which Ravana (Ego) had taken away . And victory of Rama is sure. So everyday there is Dussera or Diwali.

Compiled by Satish

Feeling Blessed Again!

Living in a city like Mumbai, battling the same chores daily, one gets very used to the monotony and the non-stop pace of life. In this never-ending pace, a small break to visit the ashram makes you at peace with your own self.

Today, I reached ashram. And after dinner, it was immediately satsang time. Yippee! A few more insights gained in daily life, as is the case when you listen to anything that Guruji says and I will go sleeping today with a few more bulbs glowing in my brain. Heres a sneak peek into some of the questions asked and some of the answers (This is purely my re-collection. As you all know, Guruji said much more, so forgive this shishya's flaws).

Q. People say 'Adhyaatma maarga Guru aagya kevalam'. Please elaborate.

Guruji: Before commenting, we need to know what is the source of any quotation.

So, I guess it was time for question no. 2.

Q. Sometimes, we feel very pained when we look at a beggar in the street. Is this corect?

Guruji: If you see someone hungry and you feel something in your heart, it is only a natural thing. It only means that you have humanity alive in you. If you do not feel anything, then your heart has become a stone.

But, you should at the same time know that if you start feeling very depressed about it, you have only increased the sadness in this word and contributed to nothing. If you feel sad, do seva. Help these poor, hungry people. Convert your sad feeling into compassion immediately. If you only feel sad and pained about it, it is of no use. Look at the doctor in the hospital. He is amidst patients all days. He cant say that since everyone is so unwell out here, even I should become unwell. Rather, a doctor or a nurse has to remain healthy among the patients and serve the unhealthy people. Similarly, you should not just be sad about this but you should make a difference by doing seva.

Again, at the same time, dont do seva by giving money to all beggars on the street. You might give a beggar a Re. 1 not realizing that he has enough money to give you a loan. People have converted begging into a profession. Dont let such people deceive you. If you see children begging in the streets, take them to a school and get them educated. We, and many other institutions too, are running schools for such children. India, today, has a lot of job opportunities and needs. There is a severe lack of household workers, drivers, plumbers, electricians etc. Today, the number of uneducated unemployed people in India is less than educated unemployed people. Perhaps, its time to look at our education system too, and make it far more application-based. Afterall, what is the use of you studying so much if your PC is not working properly and you cannot repair it on your own. [Everyone around seems to be smiling!]

Q. Today, people have lost the meaning of festivals. How can we revive it?

Guruji: Festivals will have some amount of rituals. You cannot talk about knowledge all the time. A person who has a high level of understanding can understand knowledge. But, festivals are meant to forget all differences at all levels. They are meant for everyone from kids to grown ups. Everyone needs to forget the differences and come together. That is true 'Utsav' or festival.

Yes, but sometimes, we forget the larger picture of things. Festivals have a bigger purpose than merely following rituals. They bring us together, and we should together celebrate with some silence, some music, some sadhana, some seva. We should not forget the bigger picture in following rituals.

Q. We have 1 day for MahaShivratri and 9 days for Navratri. Does that mean that it is easy to please Lord Shiva compared to pleasing Durga Ma?

Guruji[Smiling]: No, this is not the case. There are so many forms of Durga and the 9 days are for the 9 forms of Durga. Afterall, a man becomes a father in one day but the woman feeds and takes care of the child in her womb for 9 months before becoming a mother.

But, if you fast to please Durga Ma, and you eat fried potatoes and puri, it doesnt make sense. If you wish to fast, eat only fruits or vegetables and drink a lot of water. It helps in cleansing your body. And do not fast to please Durga Ma. A mother is always pleased with her children. All she needs is her children to be happy. So, fast to keep your body cleaner and healthier.

Q. Does working in an old age home help me to clean away my sins?

Guruji: Working in an old-age home, children's home all of this helps you clean away your sins. Rather, every second you have an opportunity out here to clean away your sins.

Q. Does destiny exist and has it got anything to do with karma?

Guruji: When things dont work out the way we wanted them to, we call it destiny. And if they work out as we wished, we call it free will. [Smiles again] Yes, ofcourse karma plays a role in all of this. Karma makes you take your decisions - right or wrong and thus, you get the fruits of your decisions based on this karma.

Last question!

Q. What does the spiritual self feed itself on?

Guruji: All the spiritual self needs to feed itself is sadhna, meditation, seva, music, love... That is all that is needed to feed your soul.

I hope after reading this, you too will go back to whatever you were doing with a few more bulbs glowing in your head. I am feeling blessed again!

- Shreyans

One more knowledge session with amusement

He breaks the ice with his usual but very special "Hmmm... " chant, and which gives the same joy to AOL devotees that omkar would have given to our rishis.

He announces to talk in hindi today as for next few days he would talk in English or probably won't talk at all.

When guruji said to ask a questions one lady stood and ask “Guruji When are you coming to chhatisgarh?”

Gurudev “ Don’t ask these question? For this ask at counters?”

Q) What is the significance of "Shradh"*?

Ans) This very world has come out of world "shradhha". Remembering our parents or grand parents who are not in this world is called shradh. This tradition is there across the cultures and continents. In china they they burn currency notes thinking that their ancestors become happy and would return them ten times. At some other place they make cars and other things and burn it. But in India during the shradh we give away something, that was very dear to the passed away person.

We offer food, clothes etc. When we offer food or any thing to someone, he becomes happy and emits positive vibrations. These vibrations are transmitted to our fore fathers because though they are not there in body form but their consciousness remains here. But it happens only when you offer it to a person who is in need.

But when you offer something to a greedy person, he would still want some more and would not help. It’s not the food but that happiness is transmitted. At the same time we don’t give it for the sake of getting these vibrations. They just come on the way. We do it for own sake. When you start giving something, just know, that humanity started dawning into you.
You are the part of this creation.

Q) Do we have to bear our negative karmas of past lifetimes in this birth.

A) If has been doing something wrong for many years he has to bear a fruit of it.
Timeline may vary. But if you do your sadhana, seva, satsang regularly it would burn the seed of all karmas.

Guruji told two incidents that happened during his recent visit to “Kosovo”.
All cops were standing and suddenly a teacher came. Guruji asked “so how is courses going on?” . She innocently said “ No one comes for follow up. Those prisoners have run away after the course” ( Actually one wall of prison was broken or something had happened in prison and prisoners could escape.) How funny it was? In front of all cops.

After a big function guruji met with the health minister of Kosovo. He was very greatful for the work that AOL has done there in last 7 years. So he asked guruji whether he can do anything for him. Normally guruji would say nothing. But this time he said “ Ok, If we can get a place to do courses, kriya, pranayam?” So minister said “ He would work it out once he gets the project plan from AOL?” Then suddenly one teacher curiously jumped into conversation and innocently said “ Can we get that big hall in mental hospital for courses etc?” ( Everybody laughed) Guruji said can you imagine an announcement for course or satsang in mental hospital.

There was a big function organized where the cream of that place took part. It is said to be a biggest gathering in Kosovo. People from all walks of life had come there. Guruji was taking meditation and suddenly cops asked to vacate the hall as some terrorist group had given wrong information about the bomb. So guruji asked them to wait as meditation was going on. (Guruji laughed “ I knew there is no bomb in the hotel.” ) But since they have to perform their duty. Guruji made everyone open their eyes soon and then they evacuated the place.

Cops were stunned as first time they saw such a fearless crowd that was moving out without any hesitation and then talking and gossiping out there. They felt the calmness of those people gained from meditation. Then guruji told the significane of knowledge, satsang and asked us to do it regularly. Even if 2-3 members are their we should do satsang.

On one question he said that we have to take everyone together if they are following some different practices, don’t be against them but add meditation into their path.

You have right to be ignorant

A) Guruji, what’s the difference between luck and action. If everything depends on luck then why I am blamed for a mistake?

Q) Human being have been given intellect to take decision. You are free to take decisions. Animals don’t have this ability.

Cows are called as “saadhu”. They don’t harm anyone . Also they give us many things.

Now I don’t remember some points. Probably Ishan would update it with his inputs.

Jai Guru Dev,
Satish Kumar Suthar

The 'Light' is back!

... He was in Kerala for a couple of days.

Today was the last day of the TTC course. Everybody danced, overflowing with Gratitude and love, and Vishalakshi Mantap erupted with the waves of celebration.

The participants from Middle East were singing a song they specially composed – committed to bring this message of knowledge and love to all people way back in their home.

“We are the angels, we are with you”

Today the Satsang was very vibrant. Guruji hasn’t spoken anything – it was not required. Everybody experienced the connection with him. He is there for everyone, and everyone is there for him. With one heart and one soul, with out any difference.

I felt myself merging and melting into that joy and silence.

And Unni sung that very beautiful song –

“Vrindavanathile Sakhimare, Ningalende Kannane Kanduvo
Hey Nanda nandani Nitya sundara, Shyamala Komala Bala..”

Guruji garladed all TTC teachers including Bawa, Sangeetha Didi, Seigel Didi, Vinodji, Vikram, Dinesh, etc.

Sundarbhayya also got a 'special' garland for his 'astonishing' seva in Kitchen. You know how amazingly he is managing the Kitchen - catering to more than five thousand people three times a day.

More than 130 people were selected as teachers from the TTC batch - and around 100 people were selected as teachers from the Middle East TTC Course.

<media:rating>nonadult</media:rating>
Posts from Ashram
