After hundreds of teachers in my school district lost their jobs, I decided it was time for me to retire. I secretly hope that one day I’ll find another job teaching AP English, or working with home-schooled students, or teaching education courses in college.

Five Points for AP English Language Review

I had hoped to teach for one, two, or three more years. Unfortunately, since the economy is so bad, next year Cobb County will lay-off over 500 teachers. After a great deal of deliberation and prayer, I have decided to retire at the end of this school year.

Write at least one kind remark or comment to each person in the class. What will you remember about each person? What is the best thing you can say? Be serious and not sarcastic. Download the file below. When you are satisfied with your comments, submit the file to Turnitin.com.  If you are stumped for something to say to a person you don’t know well, think back to the person’s speech, panel presentation, and letter to the class at the beginning of the semester.

 I will compile all of the comments and give each student a sheet with all of the comments that each student has written about him on Friday, May 14th.. I will also include your name on the comment. If you choose not to participate (party pooper), that’s fine; however, I will not give you the kind remarks other people write about you.

Don’t forget that your research paper is due at the beginning of class on Wednesday. Please print a copy and bring it to class and also submit your paper to Turnitin.com.  As you prepare your paper, please check the file below to learn specific suggestions about how to improve your paper.

Problem and Solution Paper Tips

For your panel presentation, you must create a synthesis assignment in the same format as College Board synthesis assignments. The assignment must include an introduction, the assignment, and six sources (or parts of sources). ONE SOURCE MUST BE A VISUAL!

Because you will be reading articles about controversial issues, you may find some sources that contain bias. Here’s a website that will help you learn to detect bias in the news.

Remember:  You need to find scholarly sources. Stay away from encyclopedia, including Wikipedia, and blogs (unless they are hosted by experts in the field). Use the school databases to find sources. You might also like to look for sources on  Google Scholar
