10 Years of IMANOFUTU

What could happen to the environment and life on the Earth in the next century?

I published the first volume of my futuristic science (open) fiction series IMANOFUTU (Imaginary Nation of Future) on 14 October 2013. Can’t believe ten years passed after that! Subsequently I wrote two more volumes. IMANOFUTU series envisions the changes that could happen to the environment and life on the Earth because of climate change. All volumes carry creative commons open license CC-BY-SA and available on Google Books for free reading and download.

Since I was completely absorbed in envisioning models that could evolve in the next century, and became impatient to share it with the world, I must confess, I did not invest much time for language editing. Therefore, at times, you may have to encounter unfamiliar use of language 😊But I am sure, the narration of envisioned models and events shall appease you and retain your readership. And you will find it worthy to ponder on.

Read, copy, adopt and rewrite – you are free to do all these – because only intention here is sharing of ideas and exploring the possibilities of ensuring a better world for all.

Sub-theme: Fostering Lifelong Learning

Learning is the core competency required by the human beings, all living things, and even half-organisms like viruses, to survive in this world. Learning continues throughout one's life. When learning stops, it is almost the end of life. This fact remains explicit for anyone who observes life closely. Review of literature on progresses, innovations and overall successes of individuals, societies and organizations reveals that such achievements are greatly facilitated by the effective and efficient management of the lifelong learning process. Management of lifelong learning involves facilitation of all the life-cycle events of learning specific to various contexts in life like childcare, formal education and preparation for employment, employment, entrepreneurship, and active aging. That is why almost all international organizations, like UN, WHO, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Commonwealth of Learning (COL), universities across the world, organizations that promote entrepreneurship, government establishments, industries, skill development programmes etc promote strategies, initiatives, and platforms to nurture lifelong learning.

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 of UN sets the goal ‘Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’. Moto of WHO Academy is ‘Transforming lifelong learning for health impact’. World Bank has a lot of reports published on the importance of lifelong learning.

In the above context, further research was conducted into the management systems and processes that facilitate efficient lifelong learning experience to help the world to develop models that can be easily adopted. It will equip the mankind with capabilities for tackling the present and future challenges of life; especially as the world anticipates tremendous escalation of foreseen and unforeseen challenges due to the cumulative effect of climate change and socio-economic factors. The graduation of learning from the individual level to organization level and broader societal level also studied. The study has been conducted based on the literature available on the internet and the learning from hundreds of capacity building sessions facilitated by the authors over a long period of time.

The study identified learning management strategies that facilitate identification of the right learning path by individuals and preparedness of individuals, organizations and societies to remain proactive and agile are vital factors in promoting lifelong learning for sustainable development.

Towards Developed India - Aardram Mission of Kerala State

In continuation to the thoughts on Reading :6: Healthcare on #TakeoffChecking for #DevelopedIndia thought series, I think, the Aardram Mission of Kerala is a potential game changer, which the entire country can pilot.

Mission AARDRAM of Kerala State Government, #India aims at creating "People Friendly" Health Delivery System in the state. The approach will be need based and aims at treating every patient with ‘dignity'. Through the state of the art investigation and intervention protocols it envisages transforming all Primary Health Centers into Family Health Centres as a first level Health delivery point.

The FHCs provide enhanced services like pre-booking for OP, patient reception with state-of-the-art amenities, latest clinical diagnosis facility, higher quality inpatient amenities, fully equipped pharmacy, pre-check counselling, non-communicable disease clinics, yoga and wellness centre, etc. In Kerala, it is in the advanced stages of successful implementation.

As discussed in reading 6, this kind of an approach would definitely make primary intervention very effective and efficient. This along with community outreach initiatives would enhance the general health status of people in the catchment area of each FHC and there by would harness the ever increasing need for secondary and tertiary services.

When implemented nation wide this will also provide opportunities for exploring the possibilities of PPP models for speedy implementation and support for upkeeping. PPP can also be thought about for #HealtcareLogistics, especially in inventory management.

Developed India; Takeoff checking - Healthcare

Reading : 6 : #Healthcare

Public system is the predominant healthcare system in #India. There is also an ever growing system in private sector. The public system is classified into primary, secondary and tertiary.

As per press release of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India dated 18/09/2020, as on 31.03.2019, there are 30,045 Primary Health Centers in the country (24,855 rural + 5,190 urban).

There are also more than 1.5 lakh Sub Centers. Sub Centers are the most peripheral units that provide community healthcare.

Now taking the example of Kerala, the state has 931 PHCs in the above list. It progressed from there further with more than 1065 in primary care, 80 in secondary and 45 on tertiary now.

I would take Kerala's counts as a comfortable number considering the fact that Kerala was not got shackled even during the surge of #Covid19 cases because of the strength of its public healthcare backbone.

Another noteworthy fact about Kerala is that the total number of Village Panchayat + Municipal Councils + Municipal Corporation is 1034. The local body count and the count of primary care institutions are matching. That is, minimum 1 primary healthcare institution is ensured in all local bodies. If it is taken as a desirable status, since Healthcare being a state subject in the Constitution, all states of India should achieve this kind of a matching number in next 5 to 10 years, so that India will have almost 8 times more PHCs than the present count. As all of us know, the importance of Primary Care is that it helps a great deal to prevent diseases and ensure community health. That is why I stressed primary care here. Moreover, in the event of both endemic and pandemic, it forms the frontline defense.

The secondary and tertiary should also increase proportionally.
Getting Indian Public Health Standards #IPHS implemented across the country is also vital. There are many and highly promising federal as well as state government initiatives to achieve all aspects as discussed above.

It will be substantially augmented by around 43 thousand private healthcare institutions currently present - which would also increase during the course of time along with achieving enhanced competencies.

The strength and reach of public health care network becomes critical in the event of Health emergencies like #Covod19, during which these institutions along with Secondary and Tertiary would form the unbeatable Healthcare Army that can integrate the services of Private providers also. Since the climate situations are getting deteriorated day by day, in fact, all countries in the world would require such a network.

Now coming to super specialization, research, pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturing sectors, India has already started to showcase the competencies of a #DevelopedEconomy through independent contributions as well as international collaborations.

Another factor we should consider is, during the proposed 15 years takeoff period for attaining a Developed Economy status, a betterment of readings in Housing and Education would definitely harness the ever increasing demand for secondary and tertiary health services - along with most other readings we are yet to discuss. That is, harnessing the ever increasing need for services with better health, which reinforces the basement of developed economies. No time to rest actually, all States of India should march ahead with solidarity, soldierly discipline and precision to get the needle tick the ideal for Reading 6.

Reading : 5 : Education

With 1.5 million schools, 40,000 higher institutions, about 1000 universities, law for free education upto 14 yrs & the latest education policies covering all aspects of child development starting from lifeskills, #India's takeoff preparations to attain Developed Country status are very promising. Data available online shows India surpassed the most populous Country, China, in the number of schools. Federal and state government schemes for further development of capacity and infrastructure are also getting more intense day by day. More than 40000 classrooms across the state have been made high-tech very recently in the State of Kerala alone. It can be taken as an indication of pace. Public sector Infrastructure financing institutions like #KIIFB are passionately keen to ensure that availability of resources never becomes a challenge in this respect.

Country's higher education system have enough trained and expert intellectual capacity to excel in quality, but it has to be more proactive in innovation and building collaborations with educational, scientific and industrial organisations in the country and abroad with vision and vigour.

With all these #India is almost there, with more push on quality by all.

Towards a Developed India; Housing for all

Reading : 4: Housing for all

After food, ensuring housing for all is a very difficult challenge before almost all Countries in the world. Population explosion and migration always keep this task unaccomplished.

Let us start from Home ownership rate. It is the average percentage of homes that are accupied by owners in a place. Though a higher percentage of it cannot be taken as a direct indicator towards higher percentage in housing for all context, it reduces the chances of people getting homeless in difficult times and hence substantially contribute to achieve housing for all situation. As per 2011 census #India maintains 86.6% in this factor, that is, the Country is among the first 15 Countries.

Within a Country, normally, urban housing would be the highest challenge because of the population density. In India, total urban population without house is only 0 .9 million as per 2011 census. For a Country with more than 1.25 billion population (it is almost 1/6 th of world population), above rates are fairly good status.

As in the case of food security, while taking Federal Govt. & State Govt. Schemes together, and considering the volume of resources earmarked for the same along with policy/ legal backups, in India, opportunity for all to have own house is better than many already developed Countries.

However more thrust is required in ensuring quality of living environment by decrowding through appropriate area development, creating better livelihood opportunities locally to reduce internal migration etc. It will help India attain the ideal reading for take off in this aspect.

Towards a Developed India; Food self - sufficiency

Reading -3: Food self-sufficiency

We should have started by checking this basic reading. But we decided to consider other two readings first for reinforcing the goal of this discussion [please read the earlier posts].

Is #India food sufficient? Definitely Yes. Because, India produces sufficient food and it has the technology and resources to boost it further to tackle the future challenges. Then why a lower food security index? Probably, the major contributor of this lower index is supply chain issues aggravated by the large size of population and the high degrees of diversities existing in the living environments. Even those who assign lower food security index to the Country do not deny the fact India is producing sufficient food.

There are many schemes by both federal and state governments to ensure agricultural production and food security along with policy and legal backup to protect and enlarge cultivatable land. Now, the takeoff requirement is, these schemes have to be streamlined to remain mutually complimentary/ supplementary so that the stakeholders get a converged output. It will ensure ideal reading for the takeoff.

We should also understand broken or weak supply chain is a global challenge in the #agricultural sector and therefore finding a solution for it is a global need. If India can test successful models and share it with the world, it would contribute for a better "Reading 1" and "Reading 2".

Being a developed Economy would also mean increased responsibility to serve the world better. A satisfactory Reading :1, in fact, leads to a satisfactory Reading :2.

Why? and How?

Business of a Developed Economy is almost in the global village situation. During the course of a Country's graduation to a developed Economy, its stakeholders, and hence its commitments -everything - get spread all over the world. Hope it answers the 'why'.

Now the 'how' part. Successful tackling of challenges (as in Reading:1) would facilitate serving the Country in a better manner with an #IndiaFirst policy, that in turn would enhance the capability to serve the world better. Because, a powerful Economy back at home would become a relentless source of inspiration, energy and resources to serve the world better. In short, #IndiaFirst should mean a guarantee for better service to the world - a paradigm shift from the usual connotation.

We know, these are not easy as said. But we also know #India has already covered a comfortable distance in both of the above scenarios. Therefore we can definitely run the remaining distance confidently within the 15 years time span that we are considering here.

As in the case of Reading: 1, here also I would propose a double checking to enhance the pace.

A Developed Country status is not a fanciful matter. #DevelopedIndia would mean welcoming more and more challenges and finding more and more fortune out of it through more and more innovation, hardwork, quality, superb business strategies, investment, skills etc. #IndianIndustry has already acquired substantial potential in this direction. However double checking is essential to ensure it can contribute sufficient lift for the take off as #India is approaching Developed Country status - the threshold is within 15 years vicinity!

Soaps from the world would be lesser (it is quite natural), but it should be replaced by more and more rightful and hard earned business returns.

The radiant vibes of it mesmerized all

Still neither the student

Nor the singers he heard

Recognized the poet much

A teenager and youth

A middle aged and old aged

There are plenty of authentic and very beautifully created Open Educational Resources (OER) in the Cyberspace. You needn't distort it for the sake of change and fear of copying. Copying is the most respected thing for OER. When you find something at its perfection, use it as such. In majority of cases, you can give attribution to the source and use it freely. In some cases there shall be restrictions for changes and commercial use. Just visit the license links at the source and read the conditions. Wherever Creative Commons standard license templates are used, the license text will very easy to understand.

If you are an academic content developer for institutions in the public sector, you will get greater freedom and support from other OER developers. Be bold to collaborate.

Urban Agriculture; the way forward

Hello #Swiggy, #Amazon and #Flipkart, don’t you see some business scope in collecting and selling small quantities of agricultural products produced at urban homes in excess of their domestic requirements? May be two roses, some banana, a few Mangoes, 4-5 guava – A business for the future!

Urban agriculture methods are being adopted in many parts of the world. Concerted efforts for innovation and implementation are required, anticipating further adverse climate conditions for large scale open field farming in the coming decades. It should be clubbed with improving urban living environment.

Going forward, in the next decade, all the Mayors of City Councils across the world are likely to get targets to produce a fixed minimum % of agricultural products that are locally needed by promoting urban agriculture. Those walk ahead of time will be cited and honoured as pioneers for others to follow. Now you can decide whether you want to be a pioneer or pushed one.
