I will be sharing a vegetarian recipe every Monday, some will come from submissions and some are either mine or family inspired.

This Mushroom Rice Casserole is based on the one my Mimi made when I was little. I had to guess a little as she passed away when I was still very little, but helping her make this dish is a memory I will always treasure.

As some of you know, I’m actually a pescatarian (means I don’t eat beef, pork, foul, lamb, etc. The only “meat” I eat is seafood) for medical reasons but love the idea behind Meatless Monday.

Meatless Monday is a non-profit public health initiative in association with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Launched in 2003, the goal of Meatless Monday is to cut saturated fat intake, which in turn reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer. Going meatless one day a week can also decrease our carbon footprint and save precious resources like fresh water and fossil fuel.

Jewel has always been able to get the guy she wanted. The starting jock on the football team, the team captain on the basketball team, and the lead swimmer on the swim team. Problem is, she didn’t find them the least bit exciting. Was she cold or a she-wolf for guys? Colin thought so, and he’d do anything to bring her down a peg or two. When these two collide on the sandy beach during their mixed up summer vacation, sparks fly, making this a summer neither will forget.

Today we welcome L.M. Preston, author of Thundering LUV, a YA contemporary romance..

Where were you born and where do you call home?

I was born in Washington, DC and live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

What or who inspired you to write? And how long have you been writing?

I’d have to say Dave Campbell (an author I worked with) and my husband. I used to write when I was a teenager. However, all that stopped when I started college, got married, had kids and a job. When I was on a long drive with my family, my husband challenged me to start writing again about six years ago and I haven’t stopped yet.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I considered myself a writer, author, composer of the written word when my first book was published. For some reason I didn’t feel worthy to do so until then. Now I think much differently. You are a writer when you start to write.

What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say?

Thundering Luv, is a summer romance where neither person is quite the way they seem. Jewel Dupree is much more complex than she lets on, and Colin Davies opinion of her is totally off the mark. Yet, they find out the true depth of what summer love brings.

I love reading the warnings on the blurbs for many books. If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an author, what would it say?

Must have mandatory day off once a week or will go loco.

LOL
Have you based any of your characters on someone you know, or real events in your own life?

I’d have to say each of my characters have a tiny bit of resemblance to someone I knew, observed or from myself. I’m a people watcher and tend to tuck away moments that may add some spice to a story.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I’m rather structured. I come up with either a plot idea or a character. Then I outline it which usually takes me a month. After that I start writing a bit of it each day.

How did you come up with the title?

Since this is the 2nd book in the summer ‘Luv’ series, it had to end in Luv, but I knew this romance would be turbulent, so I figured I would key in on a scene in the book and name it Thundering Luv.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Yes, never take people at face value. Try to be sympathetic to the reason people are the way they are and understand that you never know a person until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.

Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?

I’m currently writing book 2 in my YA, Paranormal series, Purgatory Reign. Also, the third book in this summer ‘Luv’ short story series named Double Trouble Luv due out summer of 2014.

Sounds fun!
Who designed the cover of your book?

Emma Michaels designed it. I told her I wanted two people kissing in the rain. She delivered me a beautiful cover.

Oh, I love her covers and her books!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Hawaii! I even based the scenes of my series, Bandits on my travels to Hawaii.

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?

I personally now prefer ebooks because they take up little space and I can get instant gratification when searching for and purchasing a book I want.

What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

Well I write in three different genre’s now, Young Adult, Romance, Scifi, Contemporary Romance and Middle Grade. I’m thinking of tackling New Adult and doing a serial novel, but we will see.

But your mom,” Amy inhaled loudly, “she’s like…hum, like a husband whisperer or something,” Amy laughed.

Jewel lifted her shades to peek out at Amy, “So are you saying guys and dogs are the same?” she jumped up and plopped down on Amy’s butt to tickle Amy’s feet, “You calling my mom a dog trainer,” she giggled.

Jewel’s foot hit’s Meg’s drink and red juice splattered all over her white bikini. Amy’s butt went upward to knock Jewel onto the hard deck.
“I’m trying to help you,” his baritone voice sounded like he was fighting against laughter, and he grasped her hand. His firm muscular shaped arm flexed as he bent to help her.

Sometimes, returning home isn’t about confronting your past; it’s about discovering your future.

Janie McGee, the black sheep of her family, is free-spirited, uninhibited, and never one to stay in the same place for too long. When Janie learns her father, Joe, is gravely ill, she reluctantly returns home to rural Pennsylvania to care for him.

Joe’s neighbor, David Harris, sports a pocket protector, collects coins, and is addicted to Antiques Roadshow. Everything about him rubs Janie the wrong way, from his nerdy wardrobe to his enviable friendship with Joe. And to make matters worse, her father thinks they’re perfect for each other, proof positive of how little Joe knows his own daughter…or so Janie thinks.

A shared devotion to the elder McGee begins to close the gulf between Janie and David, but a burgeoning romance opens the door to new problems and unexpected consequences neither could foresee. Joe, however, remains steadfast in his resolve to show Janie that Daddy knows what’s best for his little girl. Can Janie finally open her heart to David while watching the first man she ever truly loved fade away?

Never him. If she looked at him, all would be lost. Just being this close to him had her heart racing. It was so loud she marveled that he couldn’t hear it.

She brought her eyes to his quickly. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me, Lucien Wolf.” That was when she noticed he’d taken advantage of her not looking at him and was now only inches from her. She stepped back until she was forced against the door.

“You smell so good, Red.” He wasn’t touching her yet, his hands on either side of her head on the door. His lips inches from hers, his warmth emitting from him, the unique scent that was his wafted about, and she groaned. He put his nose to the pulse at her throat, and she whimpered.

“Stop…” It sounded weak even to her own ears.

Of course, he was resistant and didn’t budge. The heat of his skin through his black t-shirt seared her. She drew her hands away and fast.

He grabbed one of her hands and placed it back on his chest over his heart and held it there all the while his ice-colored gaze held hers. He made her feel so small in comparison. At 6’6” he dwarfed her.

“I don’t have time for games, Lucien. I asked her, though it took a bit of cajoling. She didn’t understand how I even knew you.”

“I kept my time with you my secret. I didn’t share it with anyone, least of all Cinda. She and I, if you haven’t noticed, aren’t close. Though that little problem is mostly by my design and Drusilla’s,” she half-muttered to herself.

“Listen, Red, I know I don’t deserve to ask you this, but I want another chance.”

“I’m not the same person, Lucien. You said it yourself. There is no going back.”

“I’m not asking to go back, baby girl. I’m asking to go forward.” He cupped her cheek, and then stroked his fingertip along her earlobe. She shivered. It was his signature move with her and in the next moment his hands were at her throat. He used his thumbs to stroke up and down both sides of her neck as he held her. She bit her lip in reaction. The years slipped away, and she was a submissive to his master again. There was a time when she’d have done anything he asked. Had that changed? It was a question she didn’t know the answer to, least not yet. Part of her wanted to tell him to leave, to never come back. The other part of her wanted to hold on tight to him and never let him go.

“Luc, some things we are never meant to go back to.” All the while what ran through her head was not looking him in the eyes. There was something about his gaze that seemed to capture her soul.

To survive, she must put the past behind her. To love, she must learn to trust.

Homicide detective Leigh McBride’s first assignment with the FBI brings her face-to-face with a past she’s tried hard to forget. And when her temporary partner, a cynical ex-marine, lights a fire in her she thought long-extinguished, her darkest secret is threatened.

Scarred both physically and emotionally, Special Agent J. T. Noble is a man of few words. He prefers to keep people at a distance—until he meets Leigh. He’s attracted to her strength and drawn in by her secrecy. But in their line of work, secrets can be deadly.

When the killer they are hunting aims his vigilante justice at Leigh’s past assailant, the fine line between right and wrong blurs. To heal the past—and find their future together—Leigh and J. T. must learn that only through trust and forgiveness can love grow.

J.T. opened one eye and stared into two small blue ones. There was a question coming. Like why he’d slept on the couch. Other than ‘go ask your mother,’ he had no clue what to say. He rolled off onto the floor to straighten out his bent, cramped torso. He groaned into a stretch. Ethan landed with a giggle.

“Easy,” J.T. pleaded. “Is your mom up?”

“Not really.”

The kid jumped up and down a couple of times.

“Don’t bounce,” J.T. warned.

Ethan turned his head sideways as he studied J.T.’s face. Wide eyed, the boy pointed at the scar with his index finger. He wasn’t surprised. The kid was probably curious.

“How’d you get that?”

“A piece of shrapnel—” He paused and considered Ethan’s age. “I was in the war. A bomb went off and a piece of metal smacked me in the face.”

“Does it hurt?”

“Not anymore.” He marveled at the innocence in Ethan’s eyes.

“Can I touch it?”

“I guess so.” J.T. breathed in and waited. Ethan hesitated, leaning closer.

“I’m not supposed to talk about your scar.”

“Mama.”

“It’s okay. I won’t tell.”

J.T. turned his head to the side. No one had outright asked to touch the constant reminder of a day when his best friend caught the worst of an IUD. Hell, people shied away from his right side. Except Leigh, she looked him square in the face. He lay still while Ethan poked a finger into the scar a couple of times. After a few seconds of investigation, the kid cupped the scar with his small hand and patted lightly. The oddest thing happened to his heart. It swelled inside his chest and then clenched.

“Mama said you were a brave soldier.”

Alien emotions swirled through J.T. and an unexplained urge to hug Ethan put a weird lump in J.T.’s throat. Unable to cope or understand, his mind raced for an idea, anything to end the moment.

Demon Tempted is the story of Eva Jackson and Clay Quinones, star crossed lovers and demons. Clay is determined to win back his love and make her walk the “straight and narrow”. Ms. Prince’s writing truly shines in Demon Tempted! Her world building and characters are so engaging that you find yourself not willing to put the book down until well after the last words have faded.

There is so much going on in this story, but at no time is it overwhelming or confusing. I love the relationships, though the m/m one is painful to read—well, painful in that your heart goes out to one of the two demons. I so wanted to beat the other demon for his actions there, ugh! But Eav and Clay are perfect for each other, even if Eva doesn’t want to agree at first.

This is also one of the hottest reads I’ve read in a while, and while the sex is scorching, it is part of the plot, not instead of a plot. When past, present, and demonic intentions/plots collide, you are left with a delicious story, the need of a cold shower, and a satisfied reader. Can’t wait for more from this author!

He’s searching for a story but finds so much more.

Brad Torrence is next on the chopping block at the newspaper where he works. Hungry for any source he can find, he runs across an ad in the classifieds: For Sale: Nursery Items, Never Used. It’s the lead he’s been looking for. Thinking a piece about the loss of a child will give him the edge he needs to keep his job, Brad follows up. He doesn’t expect a single man to answer.

Rather than being offended, Cory Wolfe finds sharing the story of his grief and pain liberating. He’s even surprised by the spark that strikes, and one story leads to another.

Brad digs into his stories and Cory’s life, eager to know everything about the man who’s caught his attention. But when a lead points him to the hospital where Cory works, he unearths a mystery that might have been safer left buried. Brad’s search for a story could prove deadly….

In Search of a Story is the powerful, moving, and sexy of Brad Torrence, a reporter hoping to save his job, and Cory Wolfe, a man grieving the loss of his child, a child he never even got to hold. When these two men meet, Brad is expecting to do a story on grieving mothers, what he found was a single gay man whose soon to be adopted son died before being born.

As the men get to know one another, their connection deepens and what began as a story becomes something we all hope for . . . love. But things aren’t all happiness and light. Cory is a Dr, meaning he often has to leave leaving poor Brad hanging (yes, when the pager goes off, the Dr runs out the door, no matter what was going on before, lol).

The writing was, well, it’s Andrew Grey so it caught me from the very beginning. The characters, and not just he MCs, were well developed and endearing (yes, even the nasty ones were needed). The situations, sadly, were all to real, but passionately shared. Whether it was sex (OMG *sigh*) or loss and tears, Andrew truly out did himself with In Search of a Story.

This was a story that touched me deeply and I know will touch many others that have suffered the loss of a child. I hope it opens the eyes of those that are close to those that suffer loss as well, because as stated in the story, they often just don’t get it and accidentally end up being callus or unsupportive.

The man on his doorstep was as young as he’d sounded on the phone, with deer-in-the-headlights eyes and a nervous smile. “Hello, I’m Brad Torrence from the Crier,” he said and extended his hand. The kid looked a bit like an excited puppy.

“Cory Wolfe,” he said, and they shook hands. Cory stepped back so Brad could enter and then closed the door. He motioned toward the living room. He waited for Brad to take a seat and then he sat in his favorite leather chair.

“This is a great room,” Brad said with a touch of awe in his voice. Then he sat and waited. Cory got the impression he was waiting for something.

“You wanted to ask me some questions? I’m a little unsure why you’d want to interview me,” Cory said. “But I’ll try to help.”

“I probably should have been more clear: I was hoping to interview both you and your wife.”

Cory smiled. “Nope. It’s just me. No wife.” That simple statement sent a stab through his stomach.

“I’m so sorry,” Brad said.

“Wait, let’s back up. There’s never been a wife. I think we have a misunderstanding of some kind. I’m not married and never have been,” Cory clarified. Brad became jittery, and for a second Cory thought he might hyperventilate.

“But the ad…,” Brad said.

“Yes. Like I said, I never had a wife, but I was getting ready to have a baby,” Cory said. “I had a partner a few years ago, but he wasn’t interested in children, though I was. That and, well, other things, doomed the relationship….”

Brad smiled and opened the notebook he’d brought, appearing distinctly more relaxed.

“Aren’t you supposed to ask me questions?” Cory asked.

“I can,” Brad said. “Your ad caught my attention, and I thought there was a story behind it. I’ll admit that I was expecting to do a story about mothers recovering from grief after the loss of a child. My mother lost three babies after me.”

Cory nodded thoughtfully and then stood up. “Come on,” he said, and Brad stood up. Cory led him up the stairs, and at the small landing, he opened the door and turned on the light. He hated entering this room now. Brad stepped inside, but Cory remained in the hallway, physically unable to enter. “This was to be Adam’s room. I picked out the furniture, painted the walls. I spent days picking out just the right color blue. Then I asked a friend to paint the teddy bears on the walls, and we even added stars to the ceiling.” Cory didn’t look up. Unable to take any more, Cory stepped away from the door and waited for Brad to come out of the room. Then Cory turned off the bedroom light and closed the door. Without saying anything more, Cory led the way down the stairs and back to the living room, where he once again sat in his chair.

“Mothers aren’t the only ones to feel grief,” Cory said flatly.

Brad nodded slowly. “What happened?” he whispered.

Cory wasn’t sure why he opened up, but he did. “About a year ago, I found out my best friend, Eileen, was pregnant. She wasn’t married and was barely able to take care of herself. Eileen was wonderful, but there wasn’t a maternal bone in her body. She’d decided that she wanted to put the baby up for adoption, and I asked if I could adopt the child.” Cory’s voice broke, and he yanked a tissue from the box on the lower shelf of the end table. He never thought he’d keep tissues in various rooms of his house, but for months now he’d needed them. “Eileen was thrilled. She would still get to be a part of her baby’s life, and that was all she wanted.”

“You said his name was Adam?” Brad prompted.

“After we found out she was having a boy, I came up with the name, and Eileen liked it, so we started referring to him as Adam. I bought the nursery things and fixed up the room upstairs. Everything was ready.” Cory paused and blew out his breath. He needed to get himself under control. What he wasn’t prepared for was Brad to reach over and touch his hand. Cory hadn’t been touched in quite a while, and he liked it. The gesture was probably a breach of journalistic integrity and objectivity or something like that, but it was what he desperately needed.

“Please, take your time,” Brad told him. “I’ll listen.” Cory thought he might have seen tears in Brad’s eyes, but it was hard to tell through his own.

“Eileen was about eight months pregnant, and she was at home. I hadn’t heard from her that day, so I stopped by after work. I found her on her kitchen floor, where she’d fallen.” Cory figured he might as well finish the story and get it over with. “The autopsy showed that she had a blood vessel burst in her brain. It was probably a defect she’d had since birth, and it burst. They said she died pretty quickly.”

Brad had taken notes throughout his story, and Cory waited for him to finish. “Did you get any help? With the grief, I mean.”

Cory shrugged. “Some. I actually found a group for people who lost children in Harrisburg—eleven women and me. The thing was, at the time I didn’t consider my grief as bad as theirs. I wasn’t the one who’d carried the child, but….”

“You still lost a child just the same,” Brad said.

Cory nodded. He does understand.

“I have tickets for a comedy show. How about it?” He reached out, gripping my hand again. Glancing down at his fingers as they laced through mine, a soft flutter in my chest made me forget to breathe momentarily. He still had it, his paralyzing charm, I mean.

“Um, yeah. Sounds great.” I forced a smile as I sucked in a breath. I hoped and prayed I wasn’t making a mistake. I had to remember to be the first to run this time.

Yep, I’ll reel him in and then run out the door so fast, he won’t even know what hit him.

So my plan to break his heart was in motion as he softly tugged at my hand, pulling me towards the front doors of the Bellagio. Making it to the sidewalk, he led me to the Taxi line and hailed one. I was curious where he was taking me to, but my mouth was dry as a desert, which tasted of lemon cherry sorbet. My self-doubt was already creeping into my mind before I’d even had a chance to douse it.

“You alright?”

His voice pulled me back to the present as we slipped into the back of the Taxi cab. He scooted in after me and instructed to the cabbie our destination. Hugging my arms in the cold of the AC blasting from the vents, Sasha slipped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer. Frozen, I wasn’t sure what to do. Relax, relax, I kept telling myself. The entire plan would be ruined if I didn’t loosen up. He might even see through my ruse if I wasn’t careful.
