Advanced Pain Management (APM) today announced that Carrie Voss, NP, has joined the physicians and staff of APM as a nurse practitioner. Voss will be seeing patients at APM’s Sheboygan pain clinic located at 2124 Kohler Memorial Drive every Monday, Wednesday and Friday; APM’s Fond du Lac pain clinic located at 210 Wisconsin American Drive every Tuesday and APM’s Appleton pain clinic every Friday. 
     Carrie was born and raised in Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an undergraduate degree in social work. Before pursuing her nursing degree, Carrie spent six months studying abroad at Dunmore Lang College in Sydney, Australia. Upon return, she completed an undergraduate degree in nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where she obtained her master’s degree in nursing. She has been working in pain management for over six years.
     Carrie is nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is certified by the State of Wisconsin as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber. She is an active member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Pain and Comfort Team of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Yolanda discovered that in Sheboygan, Advanced Pain Management was the place to go for most advanced treatments for pain. She met her doctor and her treatment, a series of minimally invasive epidural steroid injections, really did the trick to help reduce her pain.

#1: Ice, Ice, Ice!
To help reduce inflammation, use ice to relieve pain in the first 48 hours following an injury. Ice can be applied for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. After 48 hours you can try alternating between ice and heat. Again, stick with the 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off approach. Alternating ice and heat is a great way to help reduce inflammation and regain range of motion.

#2: Keep Moving
You might think that lying on the couch will help you relieve your back pain, but the truth is you should keep moving. You body was designed to be in motion, so a reduction in motion, even for a few days, can be counter-productive leading to increased pain. You can certainly take it easy, but don’t stop moving altogether. You can even try a workout in your chair! Try our desk exercises.

#3: Stay Strong
The best way to avoid back pain is to ensure that the muscles in your back and the muscles that support your back are healthy and strong. Doing strengthening exercises regularly for the abdominal, hip and pelvic muscles will not only help improve your posture, but they will also help protect your back.
