Earlier today, game developer Arnold Rauers (Tinytouchtales) announced a release date of March 26th for Card Crawl 2. 

Over the years Rauers’ one-man studio, Tinytouchtales, has crafted some truly amazing card-based solitaire games with engaging mechanics and a whimsical art style.

It all started in 2015 with the solitaire dungeon crawler Card Crawl. Then in 2017, he released both the stealth solitaire game Card Thief and a solitaire potion-brewing game called Miracle Merchant (perhaps my favorite). 

Four years later, Rauers followed these up with a deckbuilding roguelike called Card Crawl Adventures. This was a much more complex game than his previous titles.

Now, nearly 11 years after the original Card Crawl was released, it is time to grab your deck and return to the tavern to battle it out in the official sequel, Card Crawl 2.

For me, any title that has Arnold Rauers’ name attached to it is an instant buy, and all of the aforementioned titles have had permanent spots on each of my iOS devices since their respective launches, so, needless to say, I am beyond excited for this sequel.

According to the App Store description:

Card Crawl 2 is the official sequel to the beloved original. Once again, you’ll face Hoerni and his friends in clever solitaire-style card battles.

This time, a brand-new core mechanic is introduced. Instead of just 4 dungeon cards, you now play with up to 16 cards stacked across 4 columns. Sort, equip, and sell cards to outwit every monster in the deck. Harness plenty of new spell cards and, for the first time, add equipment items to your runs, which add a whole new layer of strategy.

Grow your collection and take on a variety of offline and online game modes that will test your skills with each of the newly added hero types.

For a number of years now, all of the Tinytouchtale solitaire games have followed a free to play model (or have IAPs to purchase additional content). 

In a recent Discord post, Rauers mentioned that Card Crawl 2 will have in-game ads. When asked if there would be a ‘buy the game indefinitely without ads‘ option, he responded: 

“No, Ads will be an integral part of the game. Mostly rewarded ads, not forced ads. Purchasing anything in the game will disable interstitial ads forever. Rewarded ones are only removable for $5 per month…This game will lean towards f2p monetization, but I think it’s still a very mild version of it. But everyone will have to decide that for themselfs.”

Card Crawl 2 is currently available for pre-order on both iOS and Android.

No release date or pricing has been announced yet, but Clank’s other expansion, Sunken Treasures (which was released in physical form in 2017) got a digital port last May at a price tag of $8.99.

I’m hoping that maybe I’ll be able to get a sneak peek of The Mummy’s Curse later this month at PAX East (if it still hasn’t been released by then).

Dire Wolf always seems to have some digital project in active development…so now that both of the original game’s expansions will soon to be released, hopefully they will set their sights on Clank’s standalone sequel, Clank! Catacombs for a digital port as well.

This week, the Epic Games Store has just released two new FREE games: Return to Ash and STALCRAFT: X Starter Edition.

Now through 10:59am on February 26th, you can grab both of these titles for absolutely nothing. Its worth noting that STALCRAFT is already a free to play game, but the Starter Edition provides players with “everything you need for your initial raids: a 7-day Premium, weapons, armor, artifacts, and cosmetics”.
