At its WWDC 2025 keynote, Apple announced the latest watchOS update for the Apple Watch. The new software sees more AI elements than ever land on the watch, as well as a major aesthetic redesign.

And yes, as expected Cupertino has switched from traditional version numbers (the previous update, watchOS 11, was the 11th yearly update) to ones based on the year when the software will primarily be in use. The new update, which will launch to the public in September and carry on until the following fall, is named watchOS 26 after the year 2026.

Apple CarPlay is used by thousands of American drivers who prefer their phone's apps over the built-in apps of their car's infotainment system. Now it's getting a major upgrade as Apple introduces CarPlay Ultra.

The software platform integrates an iPhone's capabilities into a vehicle's system, allowing drivers to use both smartphone and vehicle features. It effectively makes vehicles more user-friendly, changing the driving and ownership experience completely.

How to stop dust, dirt, and lint from getting into your iPhone charging port

Keep your phone in your pocket or backpack and dust and dirt will certainly enter your phone’s most vulnerable point of entry—the charging port. Once enough fluff is in there you will find it difficult to properly insert the charging cable and you will have to rely on wireless charging.

Don’t delete that ‘Lopez Voice Assistant’ email — it’s about Apple’s Siri settlement

If you’ve been wary after getting an email with the subject line “Lopez Voice Assistant Class Action Settlement,” that’s understandable — but it’s likely a notification that you’re owed part of a $95 million payout over allegations of Siri-enabled spying on private conversations.

The settlement is related to Lopez v. Apple Inc, a 2019 class action lawsuit that alleged that Apple violated user privacy by recording their conversations and forwarding them to third-party contractors. Apple agreed to the settlement earlier this year but denied the allegations. Several of us at The Verge received emails about the settlement in recent days, sent from info@lopezvoiceassistantsettlement.com. Mine included my name, claimant identification code, confirmation code, and a description of the settlement.

A website has been set up to distribute the funds, allowing Apple device owners in the US who experienced an unintended Siri activation during private conversations between September 17th, 2014, and December 31st, 2024, to submit a claim.

FBI Warns Apple Users of a New Fraud Scheme

We recently wrote about the FBI’s warning to iPhone users about scammers impersonating toll road collectors and package delivery services. At the time, the Palo Alto Networks’ Unit 42 had identified frequent occurrences in at least 10 states.

This hacking attempt was primarily in the form of text messages, AKA “smishing” (SMS+phishing), and it’s still ongoing. I received two texts from my local “toll roads” in the past few days. Nonetheless, the FBI issued another warning about some new scammer tactics.
