Verizon has confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that the iPhone 4 will indeed be eligible for their $30 unlimited data plan. The news comes as Big Red has been somewhat redrafting their current data plans, such as axing the $15 for 150MB plan.

It should be noted (although we’ve heard this before) that the WSJ is also reporting that unlimited data will eventually be going the way of the Dodo in favor of a tiered pricing structure. We will have to wait and see on that one, but for now Verizon customers eager to get their hands on an iPhone will be pleased to know that unlimited data is part of the equation.

As for the A5, it is anticipated the A5 will feature a dual-core processor at speeds of 1GHz or above much like Nvidia’s Tegra 2. Apple’s current A4 processor is based on the single core Cortex A8 ARM processor and powers the existing iPad, iPhone 4, and Apple TV. It is expected the dual-core A5 processor will find its way into the iPad 2, iPhone 5, and future Apple TV devices.

We were pretty positive that it was coming, and sure enough Verizon formally announced the iPhone 4 at their NY press event earlier today. The Verizon iPhone 4 is nearly identical to its older brother on AT&T, but does suffer from a couple setbacks.

Verizon’s CDMA network does not support simultaneous voice and data, so you can forget surfing the web while talking on the phone. The antenna design is slightly different, again due to CDMA requirements, so there is a slight change in where the volume and mute buttons sit (meaning this will probably require its own case). Software wise, the Verizon iPhone 4 comes with a five user WiFi hotspot functionality, a feature that is standard on Android phones.

For me personally, the biggest disappointment  is that they did not hold off to make this an LTE device. With all the advertising Verizon is doing for their LTE network, and not to mention the four LTE ready Android devices that were just announced at CES, one has to wonder why they chose to keep this a CDMA device. However, this is not going to stop millions of Verizon customers from picking up an iPhone beginning next month. Will you be one of them?

Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork, and professional software. Apple recently released the Mac App Store on Thursday, January 6th. Within a 24-hour period it has distributed more than 1 million app downloads despite having only 1,000 different apps available. Steve Jobs is happy with the launch, and so are developers.

Evernote, makers of a to-do app, have seen twice as many users signing up for their software through the Mac App Store, but Apple is winning over gamers more than anything else.

Richard Garywood at TUAW says it’s mostly games being downloaded. Roughly 1/3 of all downloads are games with  Flight Control HD and Air Hockey being among the more popular.

Google is in aggressive talks with publishers to compete with Apple’s digital newsstand market. Apple currently takes 30% commissions from digital sales through iTunes. Google, however, in an attempt to undercut its competitor is offering less than 30% , and has also proposed giving publishers certain personal data about app buyers to help for marketing purposes.

Apple is not going to take this one sitting down, and has already started preparing for a confrontation. For starters, they are making it easier for publishers to offer discounts on long term commitments. Furthermore, they are offering to share personal data with publishers with an opt in program. Publishers are less content with an opt in because they believe consumers are unwilling to share their personal data. While the move by Google is a smart one, especially with the slew of Android tablets coming out this year, it certainly remains to be seen how their offering will hold up against Apple’s.

We have some good news for all of you Apple stock owners out there. Not only did the company’s stock hit the $330 mark, but the overall market cap has now surpassed $300 billion. Market capitalization is the value of a company’s stock, and is calculated by multiplying the total value of the stock by the number of stock that has been sold.

Apple is set to release their fiscal first quarter results on January 18th, which analysts predict will reveal the record holiday sales that are surely fueling the increase in stock value. 2011 looks to be off to a great start for Apple, and be sure to check back for all the details of the fiscal report on the 18th.
