It’s no secret we were a fan of the Molekule Air Purifier when it first came out. We were one of the first publications to get a test unit, and we just loved it’s simplicity and quiet operation. We also liked the concept behind Molekule, which works differently than traditional HEPA-based air filtration units.

Instead of focusing on super fine filters in a race to capture the most air particulates, Molekule focus’s on destroying the air particulates. It does this by way of it’s PECO technology, where a chemical reaction is triggered on the filter membrane itself – oxidizing the particulates as they become trapped there.

Molekule Air and Molekule Air Mini side-by-side comparison

Molekule Air Mini

Enter the latest addition to the Molekule family, the smaller sized Air Mini. If the original Molekule was a hard sell because of the price point, the new Mini may be the unit for you. At only $399, it’s half the cost of the full size Molekule unit but cleans the air just as well as the original.

This unit is perfect for small rooms, 250 sq ft and under. Small and white, with a metal housing and the same easy controls – the Molekule mini setup couldn’t be more simple.

It comes wrapped in a beautiful cloth travel bag. Once unwrapped, there is only a single power button the top of the unit to clue you in on the controls. There are five different fan speeds to choose from, but to clean the air in your room quickly you will want to set it on high at first. Then you can drop it down to one of the lower speeds and it will run quietly all day long.

The control panel is similar to the larger Molekule, as it is run by a touch control button on the top of the unit. To turn the unit on or off, just press and hold the power button for a few seconds.

The Molekule Mini also doesn’t emit light like it’s larger brother. The light diodes are placed in the core of the unit, and they case UV rays on the black PECO filter, so very little light escapes from it’s enclosure. This is a big plus – as the few complaints we would hear about the Molekule Air was the amount of light it would cast in a room.

The replacement cycle is every 3 months, and replacement filter subscription is $99/year which will get you 2 filters every six months. Replacing the filter is simple. You simply turn off the unit, press down on the outer shell and twist. The outside case unlocks and slides off.

The PECO Filter in the Air Mini

We’ve been using the Molekule Mini for about two months now in our kids room and it appears to be working well. It’s quiet and unobtrusive.

The mini model does not use any app, it functions more like a standard air filter with the on/off/speed switch. There are little LED status lights at the top to let you know what speed you are on, or when it’s time to change the filter.

Final Thoughts

For $399, this is all the technology of the full size Molekule unit in a much smaller package. Yes, the fan and filter is smaller, but this is a filter geared more towards bedroom use. Overall, we are pleased with the operation of the Molekule Air Mini and will continue using it in our kids bedroom.

Whether you spend hours every week cooking for yourself (and maybe your family) or only use your cookware to reheat leftovers, anyone that spends time in the kitchen understands the importance of owning and using durable cookware. While long-lasting cookware is rather unquestionably an asset, the cost of these items often gives potential consumers pause because honestly – is it worth it? The more expensive of these “lifetime” cookware sets can be upwards of $2,000USD, averaging $200USD or more per item. With $20 and $30 pots and pans available at every turn, is it even necessary to invest the cost of a vehicle (albeit, a used one) into your kitchenware?

Is NanoBond really worth it?

Hestan Cookware, created by Stanley Cheng (whose hard-anodized cookware invention helped bring about nonstick cookware in the marketplace), is not only a well-known kitchenware company but also the sister company of Hestan Vineyards, an award-winning winery located in California.

In this review, we’ll explore the pros and cons of the 8.5-inch NanoBond technology-equipped skillet from Hestan, one of the highest rated household cookware brands available. Although this skillet is actually on the cheaper side of the higher-end pans available – it’s listed on the Hestan website as $149.95 – at just over 8” this pan is more expensive than many of its larger counterparts. Expensive cookware is often touted as a necessary addition to any kitchen, but many potential consumers become stuck on the price versus usability.

While it’s obvious through raving consumer reviews, from both professional and home cooks, that Hestan has created a superior piece of cookware. Let’s explore the technology that has made this brand so popular among kitchen aficionados.

This technology, accomplished using a high-heat vacuum chamber, bonds titanium and chromium in thousands of layers to a stainless steel base producing a finished product that is six times stronger than stainless steel. Branded by Hestan as “the first true innovation in stainless steel cookware in over 100 years”, NanoBond cookware may very well become a household standard – taking the place of stainless steel and cast iron.

Hestan Pots and Pans Set

Design and Usability

Hestan’s expertly crafted 8.5” open skillet is designed to give home cooks a professional feel with chef-inspired features such as flared rims and an easy grip French-style handle. How many commercial cookware brands can boast that their products are being used in professional kitchens and are standing up to the constant, every-day usage that professional chefs require of their cookware? In addition to its design features catered towards giving users a more professional feel, this little skillet is heat safe up to 1050F and still lasts up to five times longer than traditional cookware.

Flush rivets make for easy cleanup and prevent food and oil buildup like regularly fitted rivets

Although it is lighter in weight than traditional skillets, this model offers 20% more cooking area than its counterparts, allowing you to make full use of your cookware. All NanoBond products are oven and broiler safe making them ideal for stovetop to oven cooking – with uses for everything from searing the perfect, juicy steak to making your grandmother’s pan-roasted pork tenderloin! Each NanoBond product is designed with flush rivets both inside and out, making hand washing easier than ever – no need for intense scrubbing to remove food or oil buildup. While this skillet is designed to be easy to clean, Hestan has also made it dishwasher safe for those lazy clean-up nights. No more worrying about putting your “good pan” in the dishwasher and ruining it!

NanoBond technology has made each product scratch resistant from steel wool and other harsh cleaning tools, resistant to staining and salt-pitting, and Hestan has added a lifetime warranty to support their claims of durability. This skillet’s scratch resistant nature means that metal utensils are not off-limits (no reason to buy new cooking materials!) and its stainless-steel base makes it induction cooktop safe.

Final Thoughts

Finding negatives for this product is honestly a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack. Some consumers complain of the loss of shine that occurs with continued use of this product, however, Hestan solves this problem by including a personalized cleaner that renews the glossy shine of the polished stainless-steel exterior and interior with just a couple of drops and a rinse with warm water.
Since induction cooktops became commercially popular, they have grown to become one of the more preferred cooktops in the household appliance world.

An induction system uses neither thermal conduction or direct flame to heat cookware but instead heats cookware electrically through magnetic induction (hence its name). Due to their increased popularity, many appliance manufacturers have created multiple induction cooktop lines, with each line vying for the top spot among consumers.

Two major appliance companies, Miele and Wolf, have released 36” inch induction cooktops that seem relatively similar in style and function – but are they really? While both units are the same size and have the same number of rings/burners, each unit comes with its own list of separate pros and cons.

So, between the Miele KM 6370 and the Wolf CI365T/S induction cooktop units available, which one is worth your hard earned dollars?

Before we do a quick compare and contrast between products, let’s introduce both cooktops and lay out some product specific elements for each model.

Miele Induction Cooktop – KM6370

Miele’s induction cooktop is a 5-ring model with EasyClean ceramic glass and an impressive spread of safety features. Two of the five rings available are PowerFlex capable, with two connected rings combining into one zone (9 x 15’’) when the PowerFlex setting is activated. This feature is said to be intended for use with larger cookware as it enables heating of more significantly sized pots and pans ‘quickly and easily’ (as per the website).

Miele’s 36″ induction cooktop, the KM 6370

The Miele KM 6370 also has a keeping warm function which allows you to maintain a low heat temperature to prevent burning or overcooking on dishes that are not yet ready to be served – perfect for multi-dish meal preparation. In this same vein, there is a Stop&Go setting, which automatically sets the desired zone to level one power with the ability to return the zone to its previous power setting simply by touching another button.

This setting comes in handy when it becomes necessary to step away from the cooktop briefly, although no longer than a few minutes is recommended, helping to avoid the need to turn off the burner or remove the pan from the heat while away.

Wolf Induction Cooktop – CI365T/S

The 36″ Wolf induction cooktop also comes outfitted with 5 elements, four separate medium-sized elements, and one large element. However, this model is designed with five zone bridging options, giving the consumer, in all, 10 different cooking configurations to choose from with a possible cooking zone area of 17″ x 17″.

Wolf’s Latest Induction Cooktop – CI365T/S

This feature is perfect for kitchens where a larger cookware tool such as a griddle or a grill is used frequently – even providing enough space for use of these items on the cooktop at the same time.

Melting chocolate for desserts? Cheese for fondue? Wolf even has a setting for that. The impressive ‘melt’ feature turns the power level on one burner to the perfect temperature needed to melt (and not burn!) foods and to keep them at melting temperatures for as long as the setting is engaged. Need to keep a dish at a low heat for a long period of time? Use the ‘true simmer’ feature to maintain a low simmer temperature, perfect for use when making soups or stews that require low heat over a long period of time.

Design

Both models are equipped with ceramic surfaces that are designed and manufactured to prevent scratching and scraping and to reduce the effects of general wear and tear.

Miele’s KM 6375 display touch settings

Black in color, the Wolf and the Miele both boast sleek, simple designs and allow for seamless flush-mounted installation onto countertops. Each unit allows for standalone installation, independent of an oven, giving consumers additional flexibility when planning their kitchen areas.

Standard induction cooktops are made with cookware detecting abilities, meaning that once a pan is placed on a ring there is automatic size detection. The main aesthetic design difference?

The Miele KM 6370 contains zones of different sizes – the smallest detection area is around 6″ with the largest being 9×15″ (when the two elements combine to create the PowerFlex zone as mentioned earlier).

Wolf’s CI365T/S design leaves each element separate from each other – there are four distinct 8″ rings with the largest ring being 10.5″. Both sets of 8″ rings can be bridged together, and when bridge mode is activated, the controls of one will automatically sync to the other.

We found the Wolf’s control panel to be the easiest to use, both in it’s speed and finger touch accuracy.

We found the Wolf’s Control Panel is a better design for us.

Safety

There are at least five major safety features on the KM 6370 – including overheating protection and a safety turn off feature.

Safety features allow use of non-heat resistant materials on and around the cooktop without fear of causing damage

A residual heat indicator alerts users to prevent injuries from areas that are still hot to the touch and to prevent accidental burning of non-heat resistant items. Both units have a control lock or safety lock feature that allows the cooktop to be locked until the setting is disengaged.

This is especially useful for households with children as it prevents accidental or unauthorized activation of the cooktop. As with all induction cooktops, neither unit can be used without the appropriate cookware, which helps prevent damage through misuse of the units.

This feature speaks to an innate safety feature of all induction cooktops – only specific cookware (generally cast iron or magnetic stainless steel) can react with the magnetic coils used in induction technology. Relatively speaking, both models carry standard safety features, however, Miele marketing of these features definitely comes out on top.

Speed and Performance

Another commonality between the units is their ability to redirect power from other burners to ‘power boost’ a capable burner in use. This is a standard feature among induction cooktops, however, this setting is often only available on one burner at a time (and sometimes only available on a single burner or ring on the cooktop), with power being pulled from one other burner for additional power.

Miele KM 6370 is a solidly built, extremely slim cooktop.

Straying from the norm, the Miele induction cooktop can pull from two burners at once (the 9″ x 15″ PowerFlex bridge burner) providing an incredible 7,700 watts of power – over twice the 3,700 highest wattage possible on the Wolf induction cooktop. This creates an obvious disparity between the power available from the Miele and the Wolf with the KM 6370 outperforming the Wolf unit on power output and efficiency.

Click for Details

To its credit, unlike the Miele unit, the Wolf CI365T/S has three burners with power boost capabilities versus the two available with the KM 6370.

In addition, the Wolf model uses four small induction coils on each burner, whilst the Miele unit only utilizes one larger coil on each burner.

This allows the Wolf unit to spread heat distribution more evenly in the pans, with each burner able to simmer to a low heat and one burner to a “Melt” setting.

Warranty period is different for each as well, with Wolf besting the Miele in this regard.

The Miele comes with a 1 year Full warranty out of the box, while the Wolf unit comes with a Full 2 year warranty, with a 5 year limited warranty on certain parts thereafter.

Another difference between these two units is their price.

The Miele unit is retailing for $3,399. while the Wolf unit is selling for right around $2,900. So the Wolf model is currently quite a bit cheaper, at $500 savings over the Miele.

Both the Miele and the Wolf units come out on top in different important areas, with Wolf outperforming Miele on exterior design, it’s control surface, and warranty – with Miele besting the Wolf in burner output and more effective safety features.

Click for Details

One common issue with both units (and with touch capacitive glass in general) is their controls are sensitive to moisture and can change settings when they come in contact with water or a wet towel.

Many home chefs like to use a wet towel to pull hot pans out of the oven, and then work them on the cooktop.

When a wet tower rubs across the control surface, it can activate the controls, changing the setting or shutting off the burners – to the chagrin of the chef.

All in all, for us the Wolf’s CI365T/S unit just edges out the KM 6370 in the battle of the induction cooktops, with the biggest deciding factor being the price for performance.

What you get for the money on the Wolf makes it simply one of the best induction deals around in the high-end appliance space.

Verdict: Wolf, by a hair.

Towards the top of the list of popular Miele appliances are the W1 washing machine and T1 dryer systems, sold separately, but often bought together as a set.

The W1 front-loading washing machine (model WWH860) and its partner, the T1 heat-pump tumble dryer (model TWI180), have such long feature lists that they make other washer and dryers (even the newer ones!) seem outdated and simple.

Miele Laundry Review – W1 Washing Machine and T1 Heat-Pump Dryer

The latest versions of the Miele washer and dryer systems, the W1 and T1 are created to be installed side by side or stacked, with interchangeable door hinges on the W1 making it even easier to find the perfect location for these units in your home.

LED Lights up the interior of the W1

Miele claims to be the only manufacturer that uses enamel to finish front panels on their washer/dryer systems, with enamel being scratch proof and corrosion proof, in addition to being easy to clean. Whether this claim is true or not, the addition of sleek, modern Lotus White enamel provides a beautiful finish to these units that is undeniable.

Both the W1 and T1 systems are equipped with scent technology (TwinDos and FragranceDos, respectively) intended to infuse clothing with fresh scents throughout each cycle.

W1 – TwinDos dispensing

According to one of the website’s informational videos, TwinDos is a unique dispensing system with two phases, Ultra Phase 1 (detergent) and Ultra Phase 2 (detergent enhancer), in which detergent and enhancer are automatically dispensed during a load in the correct proportions for the size and color of the clothes being washed.

Miele Twindos Dispense System

Eco-Friendly Designs

The W1 washing system is made for convenience and ease of use. Just one example of this is the SingleWash cycle, which allows you to wash a single item (up to 1.1lbs) with the machine automatically adjusting the duration of the cycle, along with the energy and water consumption needed.

No more feeling guilty about not washing a full load! Miele has made quick, single item washes eco-friendly and simple.

As further testament to Miele’s dedication to environmentally friendly appliances, the T1 tumble dryer, using EcoDry technology, is a long-term low energy consumption appliance with significantly shortened drying times.

T1 – FragranceDos technology

T1 – FragranceDos eliminates the need for standard dryer sheets

FragranceDos is a system that uses scented pods during the drying cycle, much like traditional dryer sheets, but without the hassle of adding pods to each new load.

The level of intensity of the fragrance for each load is adjustable, which makes for easy customization of each individual load.

Most incredibly, Miele has managed to create a drying system that is eco-friendly and still efficient – the T1 tumble dryer has 6 temperature settings and 18 separate drying cycles. Let’s bring the focus back to the W1 washing machine for a bit.

Not only does this unit come equipped with the aforementioned TwinDos, but there is also CapDos, which allows you to use detergents, fabric softener and any other additives via pre-portioned capsules.

Miele’s T1 Dryer is surprisingly spacious

The W1 has a delayed start (up to 24-hours) complete with a countdown timer that lets you know when the cycle will begin and an EcoFeedback option that allows you control over electricity and water consumption during use.

‘Outdoor’ and ‘Proofing’ wash programs allow you to properly wash your heavier duty outerwear without compromising the integrity or usefulness of the items (such as water repellent and thermal clothing).

Referring back to the T1 tumble dryer, the SoftSteam feature is definitely worth a mention.

Water reservoir allows dryer to be installed where there is no drain.

SoftSteam is stated as being an alternative to ironing; the dryer steams and heats items, smoothing them and removing wrinkles before they are removed from the dryer.

Used in tandem with the W1’s ‘pre-ironing’ feature, these W1 and T1 system features may well eliminate ironing from your life entirely!

Internal ‘honeycomb’ design

Designed to prevent wear and tear

Both the W1 washing machine and the T1 tumble dryer are designed from the inside out to clean and dry clothing without causing excessive wear and tear. Each system is built with internal ‘honeycomb’ style drums – specially designed to allow for gentle, even washing and drying.

The T1 dryer also comes with a feature called ‘perfect dry’, which simply (but amazingly!) detects the mineral content of the water that was used to wash the clothing and modifies the drying process accordingly. Let’s not forget to mention the lint filter that uses a clear text indicator to inform the user of the need to ‘clean airways’!

Just when you think that these units can’t get any more efficient, Miele has outfitted both washer and dryer with WiFiConn@ct. WiFiConn@ct is used to connect Miele appliances to the internet via a standard Wifi router. Download the Miele app (through any app store) and instantly get access to the status of the appliance, receive notifications (e.g., your detergent running low), or place orders for new products through the Miele store.

Close-up of the W1 display screen

Pros and Cons: Is it really worth it?

Of course, after a lengthy run-through of the pros of these two appliances, it would be foolish to not be realistic regarding the cons (and there are always cons!). Both of these units come with features that include Miele specific products. That means that in order to operate either of these units to their full capabilities, you’ll also need to commit to buying Miele only products (detergents, fabric softeners, enhancers, etc.)

Although not a necessity, the website strongly hints that Miele appliances work best with Miele products – which does indeed make sense. If you aren’t picky about using household or name-brand products, then this may not be a concern for you.

While the many features mentioned above are impressive, a quick look through the website gives the sense of almost too many bells and whistles – with information on some features being hard to find or non-existent completely. Potential buyers wanting more information may need to contact Miele directly or find the information indirectly through 3rd party websites.

Miele Connect App

All in all, the Miele TWI180 WP tumble dryer and WWH860 WCS washing machine are both incredibly impressive appliances. They join the wave of new eco-friendly, modern, internet-capable household appliances.

While these systems are more expensive than standard washing and drying appliances, $1,799 and $1,999, respectively (as stated on the website), they are reasonably priced for the number of features included in each separate unit. While these are one of the most expensive washing machines out today, keep in mind they are also by far the most advanced in features and tech.

Consumers looking for an efficient, compact, modernized washer/dryer set can’t go wrong considering these two units.

At first glance, the Plum wine dispenser looks relatively straightforward and unassuming. Although built to match its nearly futuristic features (which we will address later in this review), the exterior of the dispenser is crafted of simple and sleek stainless steel that flows into a beautifully molded ebony front panel.

In fact, the Plum wine dispenser is so simple in its design you may well wonder what all the fuss is about.

A quick peek inside the unit reveals a different picture. Engineered to impressive standards, the Plum wine dispenser boasts features that seem almost too good to be true.

Plum Wine Dispenser Review

Plum’s website describes it as (https://www.plum.wine/) “the first automated cooling, preservation, and serving system for wine”. Now we have to note, other manufacturers have made this claim before. Most notably, Napa Technologies, which has been selling their large wine dispenser preserve for over 8 years now, both direct and branded through Dacor.

But the Napa Technologies unit didn’t always live up to its promises. A simple search through the Napa Technologies website will turn up quite a few claims regarding the features of their Winestation dispenser, including the cooling system, automated pouring, and bottle changing (just to name a few).

Our Test Unit from Plum, Wrapping Still On

Napa Technologies wine dispenser promises everything from advanced cooling ‘thermo-electric coupling technology’ to hotel room key integration – impressive features, but ultimately unimportant against the way the wine itself is preserved by the system.

In our re-world testing, we found it to be far less impressive than promised – with only up to 1 week of preservation until the wine was noticeably different in taste. With such a short preservation period, which incurs more frequent cleaning and maintenance, upkeep on the machine turns out to be far more work than home consumers are willing to embrace.

The Plum Wine dispenser is the first system we’ve tested that actually lives up to all the hype. The Plum Wine Dispenser is a “smart” device, and therefore requires internet access to function. To this end, it utilizes built-in WiFi connectivity, an ethernet port, and an integrated speaker.

Back of the Plum Wine Dispenser is Where the Venting Happens

Internal Identification and Cooling System

Each internal wine chamber is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera which immediately scans the label of wine placed into the dispenser and verifies the wine’s identity through a database of over 6 million different wines.

It then determines the ideal temperature the wine should be chilled to and adjusts the settings on the machine. All of this is said to be done with a 95% accuracy, which, if the data is correct, is a phenomenal average!

Two cooling chambers.

Features and Connectivity

Once the Plum wine dispenser identifies the type of wine and its characteristics, simply approaching the dispenser will light up the 7-inch, full-color IPS screen. On the color display you will find all the data collected about the bottle of wine. You instantly become knowledgeable on the details of the wine – including the region, the type, and interesting facts regarding the composition of the wine.

Serving

The Plum can hold any two unopened bottles of standard sized 750ml wine, both chilled to their ideal, separate temperatures – at the same time.

Although the dual cooling system is a great feature, my main question was, “How exactly does the Plum dispense the wine without it needing to be uncorked?”.

Well, the Plum uses a patented double-cored needle to pierce through the cork of each bottle – without destroying the closure – and withdraw the wine.

Plum’s UI is Very Impressive for a V1 Product

After the needle is inserted, its automated system allows you to choose between a full serving of wine, a tasting portion, or your own custom selection. And how long will that glass of wine take? From the selection of your serving size to a full, ‘ready to drink glass’, the Plum takes only 12 seconds!

Preservation

For many, a large deterrent to opening a bottle of wine is the possibility that the bottle will not be finished quickly enough to preserve the wine’s integrity. Wine that has been left too long without proper storage loses much of its flavor and often ends up down the drain not long after opening.

With the Plum wine dispenser’s modern preservation system, each bottle stored in the Plum dispenser is preserved for up to 90 days after it has been opened. How? Remember that double-cored needle used to puncture the cork for serving?

Our Wine Tasting Area at The Kitchenworks

After piercing the cork to serve the wine, each bottle is immediately filled with argon gas and the needle is not removed until the bottle is empty or replaced – ultimately preventing the oxidization of the wine and preserving its taste.

With one reusable canister of argon gas, the Plum can preserve up to 150 different bottles of wine before requiring a recharge! This means you spend less time worrying about an empty canister and more time enjoying your newly minted sommelier skills.

Storage

The Plum is relatively small compared to the breadth of its features, measuring in at only 15”x17”x20.5” and weighing 65 pounds (approximately 29 kilos). This dispenser was created with size in mind, as it is just compact enough to be placed on a kitchen counter or bar and yet is spacious enough to hold two full bottles of wine without being bulky or too heavy.

Pros and Cons

While the Plum dispenser is certainly one of a kind, it most definitely is not cheap. With a retail price of $2,749 USD, if you are not a serious wine drinker (or aiming to become one), the Plum may be overkill for you.

On top of its hefty price tag, the Plum wine dispenser comes with only a one year limited warranty, which – for the price of the item – doesn’t feel long enough. That being said, the unit we tested feels extremely well-built. The technology within is tried and true and we do not anticipate this being a high-incident service item like a dishwasher or washing machine.

When compared against its nearest competitors however, the Plum Wine Dispenser and Preserve is a steal. Both Napa Technology and Dacor have products that only fulfill half of their promises in regards to preservation, but their prices over twice the cost of the Plum machine.

Whichever way you fall on the debate of the usefulness and practicality of the Plum super-automated wine dispenser, one thing that can’t be denied is the innovation and uniqueness of this product. To buy or not to buy – I’ll leave that up to you.

Dirty laundry is one of the inescapable reality of modern life. Most American families averages between 8 to 10 loads of laundry each week, which drives many household to invest in a quality washing machine and dryer.

To answer this need, many appliance manufacturers offer a broad range of features and designs. Sometimes it can be hard to demystify the benefits and drawbacks associated with terms like top loading, front loading, high efficiency, and recently developed smart features.

Samsung Washer Dryer In-Home Review

Samsung Top Load Washing Machine WA40J300AW

Choosing to purchase both a washing machine and dryer at the same time is often convenient for delivery and installation. Of course, shouldering this significant initial investment often encourages some families to look for soft price points and sales promotions.
Samsung offers a wide range of different washing machine and dryer combinations.

Many have attractive prices while also accommodating the need for large capacity and high efficiency.

High Efficiency and Large Capacity Help Tackle Large Loads

The Samsung WA40J300AW top loading washing machine pairs several key features its large 4.0 cubic foot. At first glance it can be a good choice for a family with multiple children or a child in college with a tendency for showing up to family events with an empty stomach and a heap of dirty laundry.

The Samsung comes with 8 different wash cycles

The high efficiency unit comes with 8 different wash cycles to address a variety of situations and fabric types. It includes four load capacity settings ranging from small to extra-large, which allows you to select the appropriate volume of water.

The lid has a soft close feature and locks securely before engaging the cycle.

A Stainless Steel Drum Offers Several Advantages

The WA40’s drum has several features worth comparing. It is made from stainless steel and does not have a classical agitator in the center. Instead the wall of the drum employs a crosshatch diamond pattern designed to reduce the physical stress on garments as well as helping to prevent damage to delicate fabrics.

Washing machines with a heavy steel tub glazed with porcelain are often prone to chipping, which creates rust spots inside the drum over time. This can lead to damaged fabrics, and mild discoloration. Washing machines with a plastic drum can become increasingly vulnerable to surface abrasions caused by repetitive contact with buttons, zippers, and clasps. Over time the rough surface of a plastic drum can further cause excess wear on fabrics.

Our Drum After a Year of Use

The stainless steel drum of the Samsung WA40 not only reduces physical stress on garments, it also capable of a very high speed spin cycle.

This helps to efficiently remove excess water from garments making them easier to dry, which can be especially helpful if you get distracted by other tasks while washing laundry.

The WA40 also includes a self-cleaning feature to remove trace bacteria and other materials before unpleasant odors can start to develop in the drum. The feature relies on a combination of soaking, and bursts of rotation to loosen any stray matter before the high-speed spin cycle clears it away.

It means you can prevent and clean away unwanted odors from the drum without the use of harsh chemicals.

How Does the Price Compare?

Appliance manufacturers and retailers frequently offer sales and promotional pricing, which often includes matching units such as this. So, it’s always a good idea to shop around and watch for special event pricing.

As a standalone the Samsung WA40 can often be found around $565. This is slightly higher than comparable models offered by Kenmore $530, and GE $540.

Does It Stack Up in the Real World?

In my personal experience this washing machine does a very good job of executing each of its preset cycles. It can gently clean delicate garments and other special care fabrics including things like light weight nylon sleeping bags. At the same time the heavy duty wash cycle is truly capable of handling significant grime and trapped debris.

One recurring issue we’ve come across: The unbalanced load safety feature.

The 4.0 cubic food drum capacity might tempt you to overload it.

In my experience, very large loads and highly absorbent thins like microfiber blankets can sometimes become so saturated with water weight that the mass triggers the unbalanced load sensor. When this happens the machine automatically stops during the spin cycle and issues an alarm.

At that point you’ll have to remove some of the soaking wet clothing out or wring out the heavy blanket by hand before restarting the machine and setting a new spin cycle.

If you sometimes forget one or two items at the last second, the locking door feature might also be a bit of a nuisance. However, it’s a safety feature that can be especially important if you have small children in the home.

PROS

Large capacity

Stainless steel drum to reduce wear on clothing

Self-cleaning system

CONS

Heavy loads can trip the unbalanced load sensor

Samsung Electric Dryer DV40J3000EW

A Matching Dryer for a Consistent Laundry Room

The Samsung DV3000 electric dryer pairs well with the WA40 washing machine and was designed to have a similar appearance. The 7.2 cubic foot capacity allows you to dry large loads of laundry and can hold anything the WA40 can handle.

The dryer is also designed with an easily reversible door which allows you to physically set it up according to the characteristics of your laundry room. The lint filter light also helps to remind you to clean the trap after every dryer load.

The DV3000 includes four different heat settings to address special fabrics that may need to be dried under low or very low heat. Depending on your preference you can choose to use the integrated dry moisture sensor, or you can choose to use the timer and adjustable temperature features.

Interior Drum of Our Samsung Test Unit

Wrinkle Release Lives Up to Its Name

The wrinkle release feature is designed to tumble the clothes without heat to help soften the fabric for easy folding. It can be especially helpful if you need to take a wrinkle out of dress clothes, or a fitted sheet that has become tangled and wrinkled.

Large Loads May Confuse the Moisture Sensor

In my personal experience this dryer has very few drawbacks. However, when you dry very large loads or wet blankets the moisture sensor sometimes ends the cycle before everything is 100% dry.

Control panel for DV40J3000

The easiest way to deal with this is to turn to switch to the timer settings for another 20-minute burst of medium or high heat. If I try to look at the glass as half full, this minor foible gives me the opportunity to add a new dryer sheet for vibrant smelling laundry.

How Does the Price Compare?

When sold individually the DV3000 can often be found around $600. This is higher than the comparable Kenmore model at $476, yet significantly below the GE version selling for $699.

PROS

Large Capacity

Quick Drying

Effective Wrinkle Release

CONS

Moisture sensor isn’t always accurate

One other minor thing to note with both the WA40 washing machine and the DV3000 dryer is the programmed musical component. After finishing a cycle both will play a very lengthy song. While it isn’t technically a drawback, it seems a little strange to have my appliances celebrate triumphant victory over the evils of soiled laundry with such zeal!

Interior Capacity is Large, but Unit Can Throw Errors When Filled Up

In Conclusion

Samsung has tried to offer the best of both worlds with these machines: extra large capacity and lots of cycles and load options. We found the units didn’t live up to all they’re promise. Yes, the tub is large — but if you truly fill it to capacity you may find yourself fishing out a soaking wet comforter due to the strict unbalanced load sensor.

Not a fun time.

This unit, as a pair, will run around $1,200. At that price point, we would like to see the tub be able to handle a load size that corresponds to the massive drum size. Warranty on the Samsung units is generous at 2 years, but we know from experience that service can be spotty.

Our Verdict: PASS

Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer Dishwasher Review

The model we tested is the DD24DCT9XN

For 2018, Fisher & Paykel Appliances has revamped it’s line-up, with updated styling and a new series of DishDrawer models.
One Word Sums Up This Dishwasher: Versatility

Unlike any other dishwasher on the market today, the Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer is really different things to different people.

To the above 60 crowd, it’s a dishwasher that doesn’t require bending over. To the eco-friendly crowd, it’s Energy Star rating and ability to run a true “half-load” is a must-have.

The ability to run a half-load of dishes is a key feature.

We installed this dishwasher in our showroom commissary, where every employee goes to make their lunch and wash their dishes each day.

This was the perfect place, we thought, to not only put the dishwasher through it’s paces but also see the various reactions people gave while using it.

Our team does not take the time to load a dishwasher properly.

Our Team’s Reactions and Notes

“It looks a LOT better than the previous model.”

Stylistically specking, the new models are a home run. The previous model had a two-step control panel operation, with cycle setting controls on the inside of the unit, and start/stop and lock settings on the outside of the unit. It was a little confusing and clunky.

This years redesign, while not perfect, is a big move in the right direction.

Now all your cycles, start stop, and drawer selection can be handled from one panel.

The new control panel is better than the previous generation.

“It’s quieter than I would have expected.”

Fisher & Paykel rates the sound level at 44 db. Our simple decibel measuring app detected between 48-53 during our wash cycle use. This was still more than tolerable and what we would consider to be a “quiet” dishwasher.

“I’m surprised by how many dishes this thing can hold.”

It’s true. When you use the DishDrawer unit, you get the feeling you are able to fit a more dishes inside than you normally would be able to in a standard dishwasher. Is this true? We aren’t certain and we haven’t yet tested it out, but we can’t help shake the feeling when we’ve filled it that it holds more than we could easily get into a regular drop down door dishwasher.

The Fisher & Paykel DD24DCT9XN in White

Gripes and Nitpicks

The control panel redesign was indeed a welcome development. The only downside? Because both dishwasher drawers are operated from a single control panel, it can get a little confusing and hard to read at times.

On multiple occasions I have started the bottom dishwasher when I meant to start and select the top. And this is just down to not being able to easily see what each button’s function is.

We chose the integrated handle version.

In future design iterations, we would like to see this control panel get larger and perhaps use some kind of lighting indicator to let you know which drawer you are currently setting modes for.

Also, one element that is still mostly missing from the inside of these dishwashers is stainless steel. The tubs are made of plastic, and while they do get the job done, at this price point we feel that a stainless steel tub is not too much to ask.

Conclusion

Fisher & Paykel’s Double DishDrawer is still a unique product.

Fisher & Paykel Double DishDrawer in Stainless Steel

It’s unique in the fact that it is now the only dishwasher drawer design on the market in the United States. Here in South Florida, we’ve found them to be very popular, especially in condominiums where owners rarely have company and there is rarely a need to run a full-load of dishes.

The versatility this dishwasher offers is amazing. You can run one load on Intensive Sanitize, while your run a second load on Delicate, all at the same time. It is, quite literally, two dishwashers in one.

Finish options are Black, White, and Stainless Steel. Hats off to the design team for making both the Black and White variants look just as high-end as their Stainless Steel counterpart. At $1,369. for all variants, Fisher & Paykel has priced this model right for the features of the unit and the premium target market.

Cooking is an art that is practiced in each and every home, and outside homes as well. Much like any other art form, cooking has been progressing over the years with the introduction of new recipes and techniques. Innovations in the world of appliances have been coming less and less these days.

Now, Miele has vowed to change cooking forever with their new Dialog Oven.

Let’s take a look at the “future of cooking.”

Miele’s Revolutionary Dialog Oven

Miele Dialog Oven

Boasting its own M Chef technology, the Dialog Oven claims to change the way we cook by giving chefs the tools to further enhance their recipes. Moreover, it also invites chefs to make new innovative recipes and dishes with the immense control and precision that the Dialog Oven offers.

Moreover, Miele’s new premium also happens to offer Wi-Fi control. Using the Miele@mobile application you can supervise the cooking process no matter where you are and provide new instructions to the oven. It offers you complete control of the oven and its cooking right at your fingertips.

Features

The Dialog Oven offers a number of state of the art features that allow you to experiment with your food and develop fantastic dishes. The bold features of the Dialog Oven are as follows:

Fully Connected to Your Smartphone via Miele@Mobile

Revolutionary Technology

The revolutionary technology developed by Miele used to create innovation in the kitchen like never before. The precision and the control it provides means you can cook food like never before. Directed RF energy combined with next-generation computing sensors brings this oven to a whole new level.

The Dialog Oven is like NASA decided to create their own version of a TurboChef.

Their signature demonstration – at the IFA trade show in Berlin – was cooking a piece of fish inside a block of ice. At the end of the cooking cycle, they pull-out the still-frozen block of ice and open it up to reveal a perfectly cooked fillet of fish.

The RF solid state cooking method employed in the Dialog oven uses radio frequency as a heat source. It’s a generational leap forward when compared to traditional speed cooking methods that combine microwave technology and traditional oven elements. RF solid state cooking allows for much higher precision due to the RF signals providing a feedback loop. They respond back and help the oven understand and target specific zones within the cooking cavity.

Hence the name: “Dialog”

By regulating the oven’s heat in one place, you can cook the fish while the ice stays frozen. Another such example is making cooked and raw salmon at the same time, by focusing the oven’s action at specific areas of the salmon.

Note the specially angled insulated door. Photo by: Kissa Castañeda

RF Solid State Cooking

Utilizing this incredible new cooking technology, Miele has become the first appliance company in the industry to use Goji Food Solutions Solid State RF Cooking technology.

Conventional cooking systems heat the food from around and do not happen to act on the inside of the food. Using the Dialog Oven, you can now program the heat to go from the inside out, heating your food like never before.

This allows you to craft quality ingredients and dishes and ensures that every single meal that you make using the Dialog Oven happens to be a gourmet one with the best taste possible.

How RF Cooking Works

Programmable Procedures

Making a multi-course is easier than ever with the programmable features that Miele has provided in the Dialog Oven. You no longer need to worry about the many different steps and processes you need in a multi-course meal.

Simply program the Dialog Oven for each different meal and get the results you need without any sort of effort.

Speediness

Using the best technology available in every single feature, the Dialog Oven gives results and makes food faster than any other oven, food processor, or traditional methods.

The Dialog Oven makes food faster than conventional methods by an unrivalled 70% while ensuring the quality you obtain from the most strenuous conventional procedure.

Goji’s RF Solid State Cooking Tech

When Can You Get It

Having recently been developed, Miele’s Dialog Oven is awaiting a launch. They are currently holding exclusive events with major chefs to showcase how the Dialog Oven works and how it can revolutionize your kitchen.

As a promotion, they collaborated with a 100 top chefs to craft new dishes using the Dialog Oven, that are now available in a cookbook that comes with the oven.

Expect Miele’s Dialog Oven to reach the States sometime in 2020. We expect it to command a hefty price tag, likely somewhere in the $9,000-$10,000 range.

Special thanks to Kissa Castañeda at Singapore Tatler for allowing us to use her photographs of the Miele Dialog oven.

Samsung’s new front control dishwasher is a slick appliance, perfect for a stainless-steel kitchen but also available in white and black, so there are options if you have a specific look you’re going for. The LED panel on the right-hand side in black lettering against its stainless-steel buttons is a great touch and an indicator of its quality exterior.

Quiet Is Key

The best feature of Samsung’s 24 in. front control dishwasher (model DW80J3020US) is that it is very quiet – much quieter if you’ve had an older dishwasher and are used to it making a significant amount of noise.

It’s the quietest dishwasher in its class, operating at only a 50db noise level, which makes a good choice for offices or other environments where noise level could be a factor.

Energy Star Rated

It’s designed to be energy efficient, so you’ll help cut back on your water usage, and also has a digital leakage sensor to detect water leaks. This means no leaking onto the floor, and also prevents things like electrical shocks, and damage to the appliance.

If you’ve ever been frustrated by a dishwasher that has leaked into the flooring, this feature is a huge bonus — and often only found on higher end dishwashers with a much larger price tag.

Samsung’s Upgrade to Full Stainless Tub Is Great!

Stainless Steel Tub

Because the Samsung dishwasher has a stainless-steel tub, it’s also easier to clean than an older or cheaper model with a plastic tub that collects dirt more easily – plastic also tends to hold on to food odors, so this model won’t have that funky aroma that some dishwashers get over time. Additionally, the dishwasher features a hard food disposer, eliminating the need to clean a filter.

Control Panel is On Front

Everything Comes at A Price

At $429, this is considered a cheaper, entry-level dishwasher. Noticeably absent is some of Samsung’s newer features like the WaterWall wash system and WiFi connectivity found on the higher end Samsung models.

And while this is one of the few dishwashers in this price category to come with a stainless steel tub, the bottom rack feels a bit flimsy and weak – with no ability to fold down a section. Two silverware baskets also take up too much space for our liking in the bottom.

Common Customer Complaints

The heater seems to be a common issue with this machine. Many consumers have reported that it seems as though the model doesn’t function properly. Dishes are not often emerging dry.

If you don’t mind drying your dishes after they come out of the dishwasher you might not be bothered, but they do tend to remain wet, even after the 3-hour wash cycle. The product description does claim it has a hidden heat element to protect against damage to the plastic parts, but it appears this function have made the heater less effective at drying.

Interior of Samsung Dishwasher DW80J3020US

Additionally, while it’s an energy-saver, this also seems to mean that the dishes don’t get cleaned as thoroughly. People who have replaced their older (and louder) whirlpool models with this one says they miss the effectiveness of the whirlpool model at cleaning and drying their dishes.

In fact, it seems as though the unit is fragile; several owners of the product have mentioned that the leak light comes on which means it needs servicing – which will cost extra. That’s not the only additional cost it tends to incur, either. Customers have often had the frustrating experience of replacing cheap plastic parts that break easily — specifically a little plastic clip that holds the plastic leveling feet on.

Samsung’s Bottom Rack Here Left Us Wanting

Another part that seems to break easily is the nozzle, which is one of the reasons why the dishes don’t get washed thoroughly; the water pressure isn’t the same once the nozzle is broken, so many people have reported food or stains left on their dishes after the wash cycle is over.

Samsung Customer Service Still Needs Work

There have also been numerous complaints about Samsung’s customer service, from people who say it’s difficult to get someone in to take a look at the issues in the first place, and that the company doesn’t replace parts for free due to normal wear and tear. So once the warranty expires, you might be paying more to replace damaged parts.

Conclusion

All things considered, the Samsung DW80J3020US looks pretty and sounds nice, but all the bells and whistles aren’t a substitute for quality. Unfortunately, durability is what’s lacking in this product, making it a less than stellar choice for those of us that like our dishes consistently clean.

Bagless vacuums are a modern miracle. You get to see how much you’re cleaning and no longer have to purchase expensive vacuum bags. Today we are going to take a long, hard look at the Miele CX1 Blizzard and Dyson Big Ball MultiFloor bagless vacuum cleaners.

**BIAS ALERT: At The Kitchenworks, where we sell appliances daily, we are a Miele dealer. We do not sell Dyson products. However, I’ve done my best to put forth an honest comparison between these two units. I’ve used my own hard-earned dollars to purchase both of these machines at the same time to specifically to test them side by side in my home and office.

Miele CX1 vs Dyson Big Ball

To have any chance at offering a worthwhile review on these units, I first had to come up with a list of features I want in a vacuum.

Miele’s CX1 Bagless Takes It’s Canister Design to a Whole New Level

I had to ask myself: What does the perfect vacuum cleaner look like to me?

A couple of features on my personal wishlist:

Bagless Design

Easy to roll on any type of floor surface

Long power cord

Easy to clean dustbin

HEPA exhaust filtration

Built to last a minimum of 5 years

Adjustable heads for various types of carpeting and floor surfaces

Dyson’s Big Ball Multifloor Resembles Space-Aged Concept Art

Two Vacuum Cleaning Icons – Head to Head

Now that I had my wishlist, I ordered one bagless vacuum model from each brand. From Dyson, we bought the Dyson Big Ball Multifloor Canister Vacuum at $399.

For the Miele, we opted for the CX1 Electro+, as it was the cheapest model to come with a rotary brush head for carpeting. At $799, it was twice the price of the Dyson.

Each was shipped via UPS in their respective manufacturers boxes and both made the journey without issue thanks to excellent packing design.

Initial Impressions on Each Vacuum

The first thing I noticed when unpacking these appliances was the big difference in the build materials used by these two manufacturers. The Dyson was made almost entirely of plastic. And not just any plastic, but that cheap, injection molded plastic you find in Chinese made appliances reminiscent of Shark or Bissell.

The Dyson’s reliance on cheap feeling plastics was our first gripe.

Every piece felt hollow and delicate. The rotary brush head – the one part of the vacuum destined to be smacked into chairs and walls during use – was constructed of far too thin plastic. I have little confidence it will stand up to regular abuse for long before cracking.

The Miele, by contrast, feels solid. Smooth lines where different materials meet, the Miele uses a combination of heavy duty resin, smooth glossy plastic, and stainless steel. And the placement of the various materials is purposeful.

Miele’s hard resin bottom makes Dyson’s thin plastics feel fragile by comparison.

For instance, a tough, resin-like material makes up with bottom skirting of the vacuum — where the machine is most likely to make contact with rough surfaces and wall corners. The rotary brush head is likewise constructed of the same, tough resin plastic. The arm is built of stainless steel, with a very satisfying extension mechanism.

It’s here we assumed the Dyson Big Ball would really shine. After all, the entire premise of the “ball” shape design was it allowed freedom of movement and a self-righting, anti-tip canister shape.

In real life, we found those marketing promises unfulfilled.

On paper, the Dyson writes checks that it just can’t cash in real life.

Pulling the Dyson around the house was not a smooth enterprise.

The bottom of the machine is only supported by (3) fixed, plastic wheels. These wheels have no free movement. The only way the unit turns is by leaning into one of its large half-ball side wheels. But these wheels are constructed of hollow plastic and the lack of heft keeps it from continuing the inertia.

What results is the canister starts to tilt and drag in an odd half turn.

You’re constantly pulling on the hose to drag the Dyson Big Ball around corners. It’s tedious, in-elegant, and nothing like they show in their commercial.

Brush Head

The Dyson Turbine Brush Head spins very fast.

It is not motorized and instead uses the suction power from the vacuum to turn the brush wheel. Because of this, the head is smaller than the Miele, and smaller in width than most regular motorized brush heads.

Dyson’s Brush Uses No Motor, Only the Suction Power

A couple design elements of the brush head caused us stress right out of the gate. For instance, we found no adjustment on it for varying floor heights.

Odd for an appliance with the word “Multifloor” in it’s name.

This “MultiFloor” Brush Head is Anything But

Also, since the Dyson does not have variable suction speed, it’s always pulling at full-power, and we found that it would get too rough with the pile on our medium pile rugs in our home. It would end up ripping out more carpet fibers than dirt.

Bottom line: the Dyson brush head is not designed for medium to high pile carpeting. It will be overly aggressive with these types of carpets and wear them down over time.

If you’re like me and live in a home with women, be prepared to detangle hair from the brush head on a regular basis.

Hair is a problem for all vacuums, no doubt. But our Dyson seemed particularly vulnerable to performance degradation from even small amounts of hair slowing the rotor spin. Thankfully, Dyson does make it easy to clean the rotor by providing access through a side port on the rotor head.

Dyson does not include a parquet floor attachment with the Big Ball Multifloor.

Dyson sells a Parquet Floor Attachment Separately

If you take the brush head and move it to a hard floor surface it makes squeaking and scraping noise that hurts your ears. It sounds like it may be scratching the floor and even struggles to pick up dust. No one in their right mind would use a turbo brush head on a hard floor.

What was Dyson thinking?

Dyson does sell their parquet floor attachment separately for $50. In my opinion, Dyson should not be calling this a “Multifloor” vacuum if they aren’t including that parquet floor attachment in the box.

Cleaning Out the Canister

Cleaning the canister after each use is easy. One button releases the canister from the ball, allowing you to take your dust bin to your nearest trashcan. A plastic clip will release the bottom of the canister and all the large dust will immediately fall.

A red purge button on the side of the canister extends the filter down, purging with it finer dust that has gotten stuck in the center area.

Emptying the Dyson’s Dustbin is Easy, Cleaning… Not-So-Much

Where we found difficulty on the Dyson was on our first “intensive cleaning” of the canister. After a month or so, dirt begins to cake up in the crevices and on the gaskets of the canister. At this point, its probably time to give your canister a more intensive cleaning with soap and water.

This is where I found some frustration with the canister design. There is no way to open the top section of the canister so that you can flush water through the machine. Instead you must spray water up through the bottom of the canister and use a rag to try and clean the caked dirt from all the side walls.

In the center there is cylindrical air intake that gets quite dirty and due to its location and size, I found it impossible to get clean. I could not get more than a single finger inside it, and after cleaning it would continue to leak dirty, black water into the canister area – driving my OCD nuts.

Air Filtration

At the top of the Dyson Big Ball, there is a plastic door which you can pop open to reveal the air intake filter. It is a heavy-duty cloth filter which can be washed and left to air-dry.

Intake Air Filter Is Easily Accessible from the Top of the Unit

We found it gets dirty quickly, and cleaning it is a bit tedious as the filter holds water very well and must be squeezed hard in order to get it to air dry in any reasonable amount of time (24-48 hours). If you do not squeeze as much water out as possible, it will likely mildew before it is able to completely dry, resulting in a not-so-nice smell.

On their website, Dyson claims that there is a whole machine HEPA filter somewhere in the Big Ball, but I could not locate it, nor did I read about it anywhere in the manual. Right now, I’m assuming it must come on a different model than the “Big Ball Multifloor” unit I’m reviewing here.

The Miele

Miele’s CX1 Reshapes the Old C3 Design into the 21st Century

Right away, we noticed the Miele moves around the home with ease. Four, 360 degree casters on the bottom of the Miele CX1 keeps the vacuum gliding effortlessly on hard floors and even carpeting. No matter what angle you tug on it, it finds a way around to you.

Brush Head

The Miele comes with a Electro-powered Brush, a parquet floor attachment, and three additional accessories out-of-the-box.

Miele’s Electro Brush is Wider than the Dyson and Adjustable

Unlike the Dyson, the Electro-brush is adjustable to 5 different heights, so you can find the right height for each carpet pile thickness. In our home, that meant keeping it set to 3.

Using the brush is much more enjoyable on the Miele vs. the Dyson as the electrical motor powering the brushes also seem to pull the head along with you. Where using the Dyson brush head feels a lot like work, the Miele moves with far less input and is much less tiring to use.

Cleaning Out the Canister

CX1 Dustbin is Easy to Use, Easier to Clean!

We found the Miele canister design to be a step above the Dyson, for a couple of reasons:

The release mechanism is a spring button instead of a flimsy clip.

The fine dust filter at the top can be removed and the entire canister can be flushed with water easily.

No center, cylindrical air intake means no place for dirt to hide that you can’t get to. We were always able to clean the Miele canister spotless, with little effort.

Fine filter pathway is removable and easily cleanable as well.

Air Filtration

This is one area that I was impressive. Miele’s Lifetime HEPA filter is a great feature.

But even more interesting is their intake filter, which is a much improved, self-cleaning cylindrical filter design.

Sitting in small section behind the canister is a large, tall filter in the airflow chamber, attached to gears.

The Miele CX1 Vacuum will automatically use the gears to rotate and vibrate the filter so that all the fine dust particulates it captures fall out and are sucked back into the canister for dumping.

Miele CX1 Blizzard Intake Air Filter

It’s a well-thought out design, requiring no work on the part of the user outside a once a year washing.

Conclusion

Put simply: We found the Miele trounces the Dyson in every feature set that matters. In fact, the Miele bagless vacuum was the only one that managed to meet our feature wish list.

One thing is for sure: The Dyson is the cheaper machine.
