Sky Tracker bygger på väderprognosdata från SMHI:s nya högupplösta meteorologiska modell.
En stor skillnad från den tidigare modellen är att gridavståndet är betydligt kortare, ca 2 km istället för 11 km vilket resulterar i en mycket bättre lokal väderprognos. Sky Tracker skickar dina geografiska koordinater till SMHI:s API och svaret blir 10 dagars väderprognos inom 2 kilometers radie. Denna prognosmodell uppdateras i ett fyra timmars intervall, dygnet runt.

Eftersom väderprognosen kommer från en matematisk modell, har vi tagit oss friheten att ignorera nederbördsmängd under 0.5 mm/h. Detta motsvarade bäst vår känsla om hur vi människor uppfattar nederbörd. Om du vill ändra detta så går det bra att göra det i appen Inställningar.

Om du pekar på vädersymbolen kan du ta en titt på den obehandlade rådata som kommer från SMHI:s API.

Så här skriver SMHI på sin webbsida:

"Väderprognosdatabasen, PMP, är en av SMHIs grundprodukter där meteorologerna på väderprognosavdelningen bygger en komplett prognos för de närmaste 10 dygnen utifrån olika modelldata, statistiska anpassningar och manuella editeringar. Denna prognos är sedan grunden till en mängd produkter, exempelvis ortsvädret på smhi.se och i SMHI:s väder-app. Nu finns ett öppet API tillgängligt för att nå denna prognosdata.

PMP beräknas på nytt minst sex gånger per dag och tidssteg (datas upplösning i tiden) finns upp till tio dygn. För de första timmarna finns data för varje timma, därefter finns data för var tredje timma, därefter var sjätte timma och för de sista dygnen i databasen är tidsupplösningen 12 timmar."
