Haven’t posted for a while… made some small changes to this site (namely the new flickr), content on Dragon Interactive and launching the new Dragon Labs which is kind of a chunk of what the new April Zero was supposed to be.

April 2ero, Mark III Drafts

Picking up where we left off.. Yuri and I decided it was missing something. Ultimately I decided it was time to pull out the big guns and to use an idea I had been saving for the new Dragon Interactive—tan stone. It would follow the same shape but add texture in order to make things more interesting. Smooth and black is cool but the grey was getting a bit dull…

So without further ado:

There were two main options for the navigation: to the left like in some of the previous drafts, or as a bar across the top (ie. the current version of aprilzero)

Problem with having it at the top is that assigning the buttons colors clashes with their category assignments. Also, it doesn’t do much for the overall shape of the site.

Starting to shape the site and try out new things.

Rounding off sharp corners and adding shadows/highlights.

Starting to experiment a bit here with the nav and elements. A bit of a 3d pad for the column icons, as well as a way to travel through time a few months back and forward.

And at the end of the day, after a bunch of other small decisions and changes…

and starting to fill up the content part…

Some images to whet your appetite..

I didn’t really like the direction things were going, though the icons are usable and the column details are pretty much finalized. Ultimately I decided to go with a 3d design, like a white counterpart to Dragon Interactive.

Not really sure where to go now, it’s a bit stuck. I sort of like it but I don’t think it’s ready to actually be workable. Perhaps some more illustration and texture is needed. Thoughts?

mac pro fan control

A way to control the fans on a Mac Pro. Stuff like smcfan and other typical apps only work right on macbook type things and are configured for much smaller, higher rpm fans.

April Zero Logo Mk III

After a few years of development, I think it’s pretty much done. I might make a few small changes to the fire and the green, but this will be more or less the final logo for April 2ero.

Then there is the Z2 concept which surfaced at SXSW on business cards, I’m not sure if that’s going to go anywhere now that the actual logo is done.

Thoughts?

Iron Man was easily one of the best movies I’ve seen. I might be a little biased since it is also my favorite comic and I really love the character, but it was definitely the best movie Marvel has ever made and one of my all time favorites.
