A New You for 2010

Congratulations in the New Year to all of you who are making the commitment to lose weight and/or reshape your body during 2010. While the health benefits of weight loss are well documented, the resulting sagging skin is an unfortunate side effect. Often, individuals who complete their weight loss and exercise program are very happy with their final weight, however they would like to have the excess skin removed so that their clothing fits smoothly and they can wear a bathing suit again.

We now have excellent techniques for reshaping your body with surgery designed to remove excess skin and tighten the underlying tissues. The breasts, abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs and arms can all be addressed with these procedures. Many individuals require only one or two of these areas to be treated and this can often be accomplished in one surgical procedure. Some patients wish to return for a second operation to address additional areas. All of these procedures are performed in a fully accredited hospital, and overnight stays are available if required.

Update on Cosmetic Tax

We are pleased to tell you that the tax on cosmetic procedures has been removed from the Senate Healthcare Reform bill. Members of the Senate heard from tens of thousands of people around the country who objected to the tax.

Cosmetic Tax

We at APS encourage you to get involved in opposing the proposed cosmetic surgery tax which is now part of the Healthcare reform bill being considered in the Senate. This tax would not only include cosmetic surgery, but Botox and dermal fillers. This tax is trying to put cosmetic procedures in the arena of a vice such as tobacco and alcohol which are taxed because of adverse health effects. It discriminates against women as well as the middle class since the average income of a cosmetic patient is now $60,000 per year.

The reporting of this tax is a violation of your right to privacy. Similar taxes at the state level have failed to collect the expected revenue. New Jersey actually lost $3.39 for every $1 collected in cosmetic taxes over a 2 year period.

The possible effective date is Jan 1, 2010, so the time to act is now.
