This way the collar has perfect fit, it is neither too loose nor too tight. Shoulders - For measuring the shoulders, measure from the most exterior end of one shoulder to the other, taking the take over the shoulder blades. This gives the best measurement for the shoulders. These should not be loose to make the shirt saggy from sides or too tight, that it won’t fit. Sleeves - For taking the sleeve measurements, the tailor should ask the client to hand the arm loose and clench their fist. Then place the measuring tape on the nape of the neck and passing it on the shoulder, end-drip rag the tape to the middle of the knuckles. Now subtract an inch and a half from it. That should be the perfect measurement for the shirt sleeve. Cuffs and biceps- The cuffs are the easiest to make and one should keep two fingers underneath the tape while taking the circumference measurements of the wrists. This way the cuffs are neither too tight nor too loose but fit perfectly. Similarly, for the biceps keep the margin of around one to two inches for a perfect fit. The front and back of the shirt – From the front of the client, take a measuring tape and place it on the neck crack (side of the neck). Then, let it fall freely till the bottom of the customer’s rise. That’s how long the front of the shirt should be. The same goes for the back of the shirt, place the measuring tape at the nape of the neck and then let it fall till the bottom of the seat and that is the best measurement for the back length of the shirt. Of course all these measurements can vary depending how tight (fitting) or loose a shirt, the customer wants, according to occasion and body structure. To do this, we just turn sideways to measure you and one needs to find the shoulder bone and put the tape measure a half a millimeter above that shoulder bone. We measure both feet towards the elbow and then down towards the wrist. The third measurement is called the halfback measurement and again we just turn to the back and find the inside of the arm and just measure along to halfway across the back from the inside of the arm all the way over to the halfback. The most important measurement of the jacket is the chest measurement and for this we ask that you stand to attention with your legs together and ask you to raise your arms gently. Then moving around to the side of the body arms down, we measure where the fingers meet. Taking five measurements for the trousers is necessary if you wish to have them made perfectly. The first measurement we take is called the side seam so getting the body sideways to the tape measure standing to attention with your legs together and just raise your right arm slightly so you can bring the tape measure in from your hip, all the way down to your heel. For the second measurement for the trousers, we take the inside leg measurement and for that we measure from the upper area all the way down to the heel on the foot. For this measurement, we ask you to stand at attention with both legs apart. We just find the upper apex measurement all the way down to the heel.The third measurement we take for the trousers is the trousers’ waist measurement. For this, we ask that you stand at attention with your legs together and just raise your arms slightly so you can bring in the tape measure for this around your waist.  It's careful to note that the tape measure should not catch on the trousers so it's just sitting above your normal trouser position. We make sure that it's not catching on anything and then you give it a gentle tug and where the tape-measure meets itself on your tail bone and waist is measured there. There is no finger in-between the tape measure and the body and that makes the trousers snug closely to the body. Taking a closer look at the jacket's collar, you should know that your collar should lie against the back of your shirt collar, which in turn, should lie against your neck.You want to make sure there's no significant gaps in between your jacket collar and the collar of your shirt. Moving onto the shoulders, you want to make sure that your seam hits where your shoulder ends. There shouldn't be any wrinkling. Sometimes, cheaply made suits will wrinkle right at that point, and there shouldn't be a divot in the shoulder. Divots usually happen when the shoulders are too tight. Make sure that the shoulders aren't too tight or too large because it's going to be pretty costly and difficult for a tailor to fix again. With regards to arm holes, luckily today, most suits are made with higher armholes. Make sure that it's not so high that it's literally cutting into your armpits.A lot of the older suit styles had the arm holes cut bigger and it actually made the jacket look extremely broad and terrible. However nowadays, you don't have that problem, but just be careful. You want higher arm holes, but not so high that it cuts into your armpits. With your jacket sleeves, you want to make sure it's a nice tailored fit throughout the arm. You don't want it to be so tight that it's hugging your muscles but not so loose that you lose the shape of your arm.With regards to the perfect sleeve length, a great test which has been used for years is to bend your wrist with your palms facing down. The jacket sleeve should end a quarter of an inch above the bend of your wrist. That way, half an inch or lesser of the shirt sleeve cuff can peek through which makes any suit look contrastingly sexy. Also make sure that the jacket lightly hugs your midsection making a Y or V (for upper torso) shape. It shouldn't create a nasty X or an O. It will simply mean that it's too tight if it creates this kind of X or too loose with the O shape. Since, this is the winter season, let’s see some of the wools harvested from various animals and how they differ from each other and are better or less qualitative in comparisons.Alpaca hair (wool)Alpaca wool is less heard of in many countries of the world but is one of the best wools from which fabrics can be made. It is harvested from a smaller camelid species of llama (basically Huacaya and Suri) which had been domesticated over a time period of thousands of years. The best thing about the hair (wool) of alpaca is that its fibers contain lesser microscopic scales than that of sheep’s wool. This makes the wool very smooth and also makes it naturally waterproof. The tensile strength of this wool is more than that of sheep’s wool while the average diameter of the fiber is between 18-25 microns. Unlike sheep’s wool it is free from animal oil (sebum) etc. making is hypoallergenic and useful for everybody. Like all good things have a little negative factor, this wool also has a negative factor. It is difficult to dye like all the other camelid species.CashmereCashmere wool is quite famous for making sweaters and originally hails from the Indian state of Kashmir and named after it with different spellings. Cashmere is harvested from a native Kashmiri goat, biologically named as Capra hircus langier. The wool used in making threads and yarn is not the primary coat but the secondary coat which is more of an undercoat and is very soft. These beautiful and smooth coats are collected by shaving them simultaneously or from flora (plants, bushes etc.) where these are left in their thorns or branches while the sheep move among them grazing grass and herbs. The separation of the hair fibers is to be done manually and that is what makes it so laborious and expensive.  These woolen fibers are known for their extreme softness and natural gloss, adding to these attributes it their being light weight which makes this wool ideal for making lighter yet warmer clothes.ChinchillaPeople outside America may not have heard of this wool but it is harvested from a rodent, the size of a squirrel called Chinchilla. There are mainly two types of Chinchilla species, one is called the Chinchilla chinchilla and is stockier than the large eared one called Chinchilla langiera. Both of these species bear beautiful silver colored coats of very thick wool since they grow 65 hairs from every hair follicle whereas we humans just grow one. Washing too often can cause damage to the fabric, and as with any clothing investment, it’s important you don’t expose it to too much wear and tear.If a suit is to last, it must be seldom cleaned, and cleaned properly. To ensure your suit is dry cleaned carefully, we can recommend specialist dry cleaners who will sponge and spot-clean each garment individually, putting less strain on the fabric.Suits may also suffer if pressed at too high a temperature. You have invested in your suit, so if you want it to last, you must treat it well and not expose it to excess heat.We strongly suggest not putting heavy items in the pockets of your suit jacket as this will pull the suit out of shape. With this in mind, it is also recommended that you unfasten your jacket buttons when you sit down to stop it from pulling.When you buy your new bespoke suit, consider getting an extra pair of trousers.
