"It all puts the National Civic Art Society in a somewhat awkward position," Goldberger writes, "It seemed at first like the society had found in Trump its ultimate patron, a president whose claim that he would give traditional architecture more prominence would turn this small, little-known nonprofit group into the administration’s de facto architectural adviser. But Trump’s idea of classicism is not dignity and order but over-the-top gaudiness and excess—not Jeffersonian decorum but super-size Las Vegas vulgarity. Trump does not join movements; he hijacks them and remakes them in his own image."

The site’s dual exposure to high-quality natural landscapes defines the core design approach—creating an interactive and permeable architectural space rather than an enclosed and isolated one. Adopting a “weaving” concept, the design uses small-scale, porous volumes and a pavilion-like ground floor to establish a human-scaled spatial experience, allowing the architecture to blend lightly and transparently into the surrounding landscape.

The elongated site, stretching north–south and narrow in the east–west direction, is not treated as a constraint. Instead, through the strategic placement of four tower blocks, the design maximizes southern exposure while controlling building depth to ensure that natural light evenly reaches all interior spaces, fostering a harmonious coexistence between nature and users.

Defined by its 12 eight-storey towers surrounding a central public atrium, the structure’s tapered forms create a distinct silhouette often compared to a beehive.

The series captures the dialogue between the building’s heavy concrete mass and the atmospheric light emerging from its 56 cornerless classrooms at dusk. By focusing on the textured facades and illuminated staircases, the photography highlights the interplay of raw materiality and the haptic warmth radiating from the interior during the evening hours.

The Munich-based digital artist, who left a career in London’s banking world to immerse himself in contemporary art, approaches artificial intelligence not as a shortcut but as a collaborator — one shaped through custom-trained models, iterative experimentation, and the tactile influence of hand-drawn sketches.

In our conversation, Nadler reflects on the tension between authorship and automation, the enduring value of human intuition in digital practice, and why he believes meaningful AI art still demands patience, craft, and a strong personal point of view.

Lifted on piles and wrapped in a continuous veranda, the building appears light and grounded, creating a clear transition between the architecture and the forest floor.

The structure is based on a simple and honest post construction, where roofing felt covers both the roof and the exterior walls. By omitting gutters, the house maintains a sharp, monolithic silhouette that allows the dark surfaces to recede into the shadows of the pines, making the building feel like an integrated part of the woods.

The interior is organized into two distinct atmospheres. To the west, the house opens up to the forest in a space designed for social interaction and engagement with nature. Large glass sections and a dedicated sitting niche allow the family to gather and observe the shifting light and the life of the forest from a comfortable vantage point.

The project will mark visitors’ arrival into the centre’s living historical universe and strengthen the storytelling of the nearby city Ribe's central role in the Viking Age.

Rather than acting as a historical backdrop, the building offers a contemporary interpretation of Viking Age building materials, building traditions and the close relationship between architecture and landscape. With a design vocabulary of timber, clay, sculpted daylight and exposed joints, the architecture itself becomes an active part of the storytelling and of the transition visitors experience as they enter the centre.

The clients purchased the site with a modest mid-century house and initially considered a remodel, but were instead able to move the original structure to a nearby lot, where it continues to serve as a home for a new owner. Their vision was to create a new family home anchored by a large kitchen and gathering space, emphasizing year-round indoor-outdoor connection, taking full advantage of the site’s westerly views, and offering flexibility to accommodate extended stays from family.

Though modern in form, the house is rich in tactile detail. A finely scaled steel canopy marks the entry, and articulately detailed wood at the covered patio brings warmth to the home’s main gathering spaces. At the heart of the home is a generous, light-filled great room anchored by a chef-grade kitchen. Located in the southern region of Portugal, within the Mediterranean landscape of the Algarve, the project rebuilds an abandoned late 18th-century vernacular cabin using traditional techniques, adapted to contemporary living while preserving its historical continuity.

The intervention is defined by a material continuity that strengthens the relationship between architecture and territory. Original self-supporting walls built from local volcanic quartz are restored through artisanal processes, integrating past and present into a unified expression. Natural stone extends across interior and exterior surfaces, accompanied by lime-based finishes that allow light to articulate the atmosphere. Two programmes within the School of Architecture approach these challenges from unique perspectives.

Below, Christina Leigh Geros (Head of Programme, Environmental Architecture MA) and Dubravka Sekulić (Programme Lead, City Design MA) reflect on how their pedagogic approaches support students to engage with the future of practice.

Announced on May 1st, the rule classifies Master and Doctor of Architecture degrees as graduate rather than professional programs, placing them under lower federal borrowing caps than fields such as law or medicine.
All it takes is a plant, a garden, to spark an architectural project. It was from this garden on the ground floor, listed for its heritage value in Paris’s local urban planning regulations, that 19 ADN was born.

From this nature and composition, a vertical creation project took shape: a conversation between Parisian architecture and a Japanese garden, where one moves up from the ground level to the architecture.

This place, protected by the City of Paris for its heritage value, becomes a space for subtle dialogue between two architectural cultures.

The elegance and delicacy of Japanese detail are integrated into Parisian architecture: limestone on the street side, wooden extension on the courtyard side. Rigour, serenity and respect for the Parisian urban context are at the heart of the project. On the street side, the project develops a sober architectural identity, in harmony with its urban context.

The award was given “for his rigorous and passionate architecture criticism, using wit and expertise to amplify his opinions and advocate for city residents.”

“Of all the irresponsible, ill-conceived, short-sighted, counter-productive, cynical, philistine and downright dumb ideas I’ve heard in my time writing about Dallas, the prospect of razing City Hall stands alone,” Lamster wrote last year. “Demolishing architect I.M. Pei’s iconic building would be an act of epic mismanagement, indefensible on aesthetic, environmental, financial or moral grounds.”
