DIY Lemon Juice Toner

Lemons are no secret. There are plenty of DIY beauty secrets out there with this magic little fruit sitting happily on their list of ingredients. So with beauty products and cleansers add up to big bucks, why aren't we taking advantage of an easy, super-inexpensive way to even, glowing, beautiful skin? Used as a toner every day (or every other day for those with dry or sensitive skin) can noticeably improve your complexion by lightening dark spots, dissolving bacteria (which will prevent blemishes), and tightening pores.

What is a toner?

Toner: An astringent liquid applied to the skin to reduce oiliness

and improve its condition.Its typically used after a cleanser

is washed off and before a moisturizer is applied.

What to do:

By mixing lemon juice with water and applying it to your face sparingly with cotton balls (apply more on blemishes, scars, and dark spots) you will see a noticeable difference in your skins appearance within just 4-6 weeks. Try 3 parts lemon juice one part water. Feel free to adjust accordingly based on skin type (more sensitive skin might need less lemon). And remember: natural is always better, so freshly squeezed is ideal as apposed to bottled juice. Also feel free to add a few tablespoons of honey to your toner- its a natural antiseptic that can be used to soothe burns, heal acne, and moisturize your face!

What Lemon does for your skin:

Lemon juice helps to restore the pH balance (the measure of acidity and basicity) in your skin, which needs to be slightly acidic (and less basic). Skin with a balance that is slightly acidic is shown to to be clearer, less dry, and even ages slower in some cases. This is because a higher acidity helps the skins acid mantle (a barrier on the top of the skin) keep the bacteria at bay while keeping all the good things (like moisture) in. Lemon juice also helps to tighten the pores and make them less visible.

What honey does for your skin:

Honey contains alpha hydroxy acids: acids that increase elasticity and stimulate collegen production which help to decrease the effects of aging. It also helps to attract and retain moisture. Hydrated skin is happy skin!

Fashion Apparel Companies Graded on Child Labor, Worker Rights, and Traceability

Its crazy to think that in the 21st century, our favorite industry is still subjecting its workers to low wages, child labor, and the inconceivable thought of what is, essentially, modern slavery. And after reading Refinery 29's recent article highlighting Not For Sale's apparel industry trends, we are just as surprised as you are.

The companies were graded on multiple indicators (all having to do with monitoring, worker rights, and the traceability of the supplies used for their products) and given a "yes", "partial", or "no" for each one. After all of the indicators, the companies were given a letter grade based on their score. And I'm sure we are all disappointed to see that some of our favorite companies like Aeropostale, Ambercrombie & Fitch, Timberland, and Forever 21 received D's & F's. What is a beautiful dress, or the perfect scarf if made in these conditions?

But we were happy to see companies like Maggie's Organics, Good & Fair, and Hanesbrands; companies that lit up the board with yes'es and received A's. And H&M, Gap, and Adidas were among the companies scoring a B. So maybe there is hope for humanity (and the fashion apparel industry) yet. And perhaps we as consumers can change the current trend conditions by voicing our concern. Or even making a point with our purchasing decisions. (Not For Sale, Refinery 29)

6 Tricks to Bigger, Brighter Eyes

Makeup is meant to help us highlight our best features (and maybe cover a few unsightly ones). Use it to your advantage with these six easy tricks that will help make those gorgeous eyes of yours look bigger and brighter. No fancy tools or makeup artist skills needed.

1. Highlight your inner corner

This is instantly going to make your eyes appear bigger and more awake. Just take a white, or very light colored shadow or liner and trace the "v" in the inner corner of your eye pointing to your nose.

2. Curl your lashes

Curling your lashes will open up your eye, and help you look more awake. Everybody knows this, but you have to take the time to do it. Start at the base of the lashes and "walk" your curler to the tips by releasing and pressing until you get to the ends.

3. Line your Waterline in White

Instead of lining your waterline with your usual brown or black, swap it out for white. Then use a darker color inside, or just below the lash line.

4. Wing your liner, and your Mascara

When applying your liner, carry it a little past the lash line. The winged liner will help draw the eye out further, helping it to look longer. You can wing your mascara by first applying normally, and then using the wand to add a second coat to the lashes in the outside corner, pulling them outward as you apply.

5. The Marilyn Trick

Too make Marilyn's eyes look bigger during photo shoots makeup artists would highlight the outer corners of her eyes with a white eye shadow or liner in the shape of a triangle. When it caught light, it helped the eye appear longer- giving her those large, sultry, almond eyes we're all envious of.

6. Get the Blues
Blue hues will cause the whites of your eyes to looks whiter, and your eyes to look brighter. So don't be afraid to swap out your usual picks for a blue eyeliner.

The Twitterverse: Is It Possible To Predict Trending Topics?

What if you knew what was going to trend before it happened? If you're an avid tweeter, this could mean great exposure, and more followers. If you're a brand, this could mean a chance to grow your following and bump up those lovely little profile numbers, which means more potential to influence consumers. According to MIT, who recently created an algorithm that predicts twitter trends, it could very soon become a reality.

Trending topics are selected automatically depending on the number of tweets and how often the topic is being mentioned. MIT's new trend predicting algorithm is able to predict trending topics hours before hand with a 95% accuracy. Now is that awesome, or is it awesome? Yeah. We thought so, too.(source)

Helping Hurricane Sandy Victims

Here on the west coast, the voices of Endear are safe and dry. But our friends on the east coast haven't been so lucky. After seeing the devastation caused by superstorm Sandy, we are without words. So many memories, so many iconic places, so many people affected by the Hurricane. We are so thankful for the people that were spared, and the wonderful souls that have set out to help those in need. After seeing the images like the ones in the video above, how can you not?

Here on the west coast, so far away from the area of devastation, and so far away from our friends, a lot of us feel pretty useless. But even if we can't be there to volunteer, there are many ways we can still lend a hand.

NYC Service has tons of information on how you can donate, give blood, and volunteer.

Occupy Sandy also shares ways to donate, a list of items needed according to location, as well as drop-off locations, and places you can go to help if you're in the area.

The Red Cross is always in need of donations, and this disaster is no different. You can find ways to donate to them on their site.

Rockaway Help has a list of items needed, a list of locations for those that can volunteer, and even provides transportation directions for those who would like to help.

The Facebook "Want" Button

Is it true? Are the rumors that Facebook is about to become even more a world of e-commerce marketing actually going to become a reality? Facebook Inc. recently tested the "want" button with retailers such as Micheal Kors and Victoria's Secret. The button would allow users to "want" certain items, therefore making them visible to friends, much similar to the "like" button. The item will then be added to a collection of items the user wishes to possess. In addition, changes will also be made so that users can buy products from retailers through Facebook. Imagine, we'll never have to leave!

Honestly, the "like" button should be enough. The idea is great for birthdays and holidays (don't know what to get them for their birthday? Check Facebook!) but won't seeing every one of your friends' wants all over your timeline going to become a bit bothersome? Users are already a bit perturbed about the constant advertisement as it is. I can't imagine all the snarky statuses that are sure to irrupt once this is added.

But should we really be surprised? Since Facebook stalk took a big fat dump (definitely didn't see that one coming at the time. Considering anyone and everyone was suggesting it as a great investment and the perfect gift for every 2012 grad) they are in need of something to prove that Facebook can be a long-term money maker. The feature will gradually be offered to all of its U.S. users. Lucky us. (source)

The Infamous Black Diamond Nails

If you haven't heard of Kelly Osborn's $250,000 manicure worn to the 2012 Emmys last Sunday, it's probably because you were either stranded on a deserted island in the middle of the pacific, or you were busy saving the world.
Osborn's nails were undoubtedly the star of the evening- and probably the most talked about moment of this years Emmy Awards. Can you imagine showing up somewhere with $250,000 in your hands? It would definitely be the most exciting/nerve-racking thing you've ever done, right?

Well as invigorating of an experience as it was for Kelly, it seems it wasn't so for fans. Many fans were upset, and downright outraged at the manicure; causing Osborn to apologize via twitter last night.

On first thought, its was baffling that she would even need to apologize for something like this. She was chosen by Azature for the opportunity to wear the one-of-a-kind nail varnish- and I'm sure most girls would have had the same enthusiastic reaction if put in her place. So why would fans be so upset? Well we think it has something to do with what this gal is saying:

And she makes a good point: with so many financial issues going on all over the world, a manicure that expensive really does seem like a waste. But if Kelly didn't pay for it, and simply just wore a polish that was already created by Azature, and not her, should fans really be offended? If anything, shouldn't they be talking about the creator of the nail polish?

No doubt that everyone in the industry wants to be present at Fashion Week. First covers, backstage incites, interviews, and connects galore is nothing to underestimate. But it seems that there are some fashion gurus out there asking if Bloggers even need to be present at fashion week. IFB takes up the discussion.

Daybreak Crochet Dress by Nasty Gal

There's nothing like the feeling of slipping into something that feels as if it was made for you.. and that is exactly the vibe we get from this dress. The crochet detail and peeks of skin are just too much for us to turn away. Listed at $180, its a bit of a splurdger. But we think its definitely worth saving up for.

LULUS Exclusive Party Don't Stop Black Dress

This is the perfect little black party dress. At $40 its completely affordable. And sporting Lulu*s "just ours!" circle in the top left hand corner makes it just a little bit more special.. the less places it can be found, the less likely anyone else will be able to look as good as us in it. Except for you of course. We wouldn't dare not share this steal with you loves.

Nova Cutoffs by Shop Goldie

If you've been seriously digging the cutoff trend.. these shorts are denim made in heaven. Bleached, distressed, studded, and perfectly worn. It is a little expensive at $89. But hey.. your butt looks good. Your legs look good. And they'll look great with probably half your closet. We think that's a win.

Metal Stretch Skinny Belt from Nordstrom

No closet is complete without one or two fantastic skinny belts. And $16 is definitely worth spending on a good one. This belt is guaranteed to look chic on any outfit. We dare you to find one that it doesn't.

Carole Twist Head Wrap

Nothing says Summer (or even pre-fall) like a printed head wrap. We have to admit that Nordstrom has done a terrific job stocking up on some really cute ones.. but this was by far our favorite. $10 dollars for something that literally makes an outfit. It doesn't get much better than that.

Ten Must-do's before Summer Ends

With two thirds of our Summer done and gone, we're thinking more about the things that make summer magic, and less about the opportunity to spend stress-free, frivolous days. We got our hair done and our nails done, our skins glowing, and we're enjoying the sun. But with August at our door, and September right around the corner, our grips on these last few Summer days are getting tighter and tighter. So much adventure is still out there waiting.. it would be a shame to but such a good time to waste! Here are things we recommend NOT missing out on this year.

10. Find The Perfect Bikini

Every girl needs to experience the feeling of slipping into a swimsuit that seems as if it was made for her. You may have to try on a million suits, and you may not find it until the end of the summer. But even if you only wear it once this season... the feeling of knowing you are some serious hot stuff is totally worth it!

9. Big changes

Maybe you've been thinking about dying your hair, or switching up your wardrobe. Maybe you've been toying with the idea of moving across town, into a nicer apartment, or a completely different city altogether. Whether its updating your appearance, or taking the next big step, summer is the perfect time to make a big change. You should always have time to improve your life; you've got time. Put it to great use! Upgrade lady!

8. Some water time

Whether at the beach, the lake, the river, or your bestie's huge heated pool (complete with all the pool toys a girl could imagine, of course), Summer wouldn't be the same if you didn't spend some of it in the water. Take the time to plan a beach bonfire or a lake trip. Maybe spend a Saturday or two inner-tubing down the river. Just be sure to lather on plenty of sunscreen. And, of course, bring a few cute boys for good measure.

7. Learn how to Dish it out, and eat it too

There's nothing more rewarding than knowing you can make a kick a** meal. Your friends will love you. Your taste buds will love you. And nothing wins people over quite like food. In need of some recipe inspiration? Just take a few minutes to scroll through Pinterest. I guarantee you won't be leaving your kitchen the next few days.

6. Hit the music scene

We should all take a moment to just get completely lost in music. Hit a festival, or finally go see your favorite band play live. Go see that artist you've been telling everyone you're going to see for the last three years. Not all of us have the funds (or the transportation)- it happens. But that shouldn't stop you from checking out the local music scene, or picking up an instrument yourself. Just listen.. and let yourself get lost.

5. Have a Summer Photoshoot

You don't have to have an expensive dslr with fancy lenses to be a photographer. You need an eye, a muse, and something to capture a story with. Summer weather is too beautiful for you not to take advantage of it! Get your girls, your swimsuit, your favorite dress, and a camera (or phone) and have your very own fashion shoot. Memories you already have pictures of!

4. At least one Wild Night

Going all Project X might be a little extreme. But I'm a firm believer that every Summer should have at least one totally unpredictable, out-of-control, sleepless night. Spend it not being afraid to do exactly what you want, exactly when you want.

3. Give your time

Doing something for someone else in need creates a ripple effect. When the person you did something kind for sees someone else in need, you know what they are going to do? They are going to think of you- and in that moment you will have just inspired someone to do something kind for someone else. Help a friend or volunteer at a local shelter. It doesn't matter how you do it. At the end of the Summer you'll be able to say you made the world a better place. And you'll earn some serious points from everyone you know.

2. Summer romance

There's something about summer that can make the time you spend with someone magical. Have a summer fling. Fall in love. Reconnect with your significant. Fall in love all over again. There's nothing quite like a Summer Romance. Even if it has to come to an end, its one of those life experiences you simply can't do without.

1. Go on an Adventure

It doesn't matter where, and it doesn't matter when. Go on a road trip with your girls, or explore that part of town you've never had time to check out. I actually recommend just getting in your car and driving- with no map, no GPS, and no plans. Just drive any street you've never been to before until you have the urge to stop and check something out. Learn about yourself while exploring the unknown.

Beach Beauty and the Beast: Bring the Visor back?

Its always been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but I don't think it has ever rung as true as it does above. Scarlet Johansson looks absolutely fantastic. The always gorgeous starlet really out did herself this time- looking fabulous in a teeny-weeny white bikini while sun bathing on a private yacht with tall, dark, and hunky (the Huffington Post believes its her bodyguard. They may be on to something. But either way, good for her!). If all that wasn't enough for us to be in total awe (or maybe pure jealousy) of her life, the actress is also expected to make $20 million for her role in the sequel to blockbuster hit The Avengers.

But you know what really gets us about the super hero babe? The confidence to bring back the one accessory as dreaded as the fanny-pack: the visor. In the crisp, clean beige its perfect for summer- and she totally pulls it off. But that's really no surprise; if anyone could, it would be her.
