I’m all over being friendly and welcoming and offering my help whenever it’s asked for.   Folks are always welcome to come in and sit and knit or bring me a problem whether it be personal or knitting-related.  I don’t mind if you come in and knit with yarn you didn’t get here, or if you just want to come in and hang out and not even knit at all.

We have Wifi for a reason, so please ask for the password if you like.

That said, over the last little while, there have been a few occurrences that have  made me rethink my openness.  I won’t go into what those are, it’s irrelevant and there is no point in pointing fingers - even if they are at people I don’t know and therefore can’t identify.  I’ve just been feeling a little . . . used.

But when I go back and replay those situations, there really isn’t much I’d do differently.  I’ve thought long and hard about whether or not I need to close up a bit, draw some lines in the sand, lay down some boundaries.

The conclusion that I’ve come to is that a welcome mat IS a doormat, and you can’t have a welcome mat without it getting stepped on, at least a little bit.     The community aspect of this store is too important to me for the welcome mat to get rolled up and put away, and I really enjoy helping and being available.

So has anything changed here?  Nope.  The welcome mat is still out, even if it is a little worse for wear.

Okay.  I’ll be thinking about mowing my lawn so my neighbors don’t file a missing persons report with the city.

thank you Easter Bunny for bringing us wonderful springtime, pretty flowers and tonnes and tonnes of chocolate. In honour of you, dear friend, Ariadne will be shutting Sunday, April 4. However never fear, dear knitters, for we will be open again bright and “early”, 11am on Tuesday, April 6. (Any basket leftovers would of course be welcome indeed!)
