Often, we end up with a stock pile of designs no one wants…..no point looking into the reasons for that, for – they may vary.

Anyway, instead of discarding them or selling them for cheap on forums as PSD files….why not spend a little more effort, and convert them into themes?

Clever Andy – See your designs turned into fully-functioning sites and then earn commission on the total sale price.

Templamatic – Upload and sell your own website templates.

CMS Market – Sell templates, extensions and more for Joomla and WordPress (Drupal will be added soon).

Digital Point Buy, Sell or Trade Forum – Sell templates or entire sites on this forum. (A lot of scamming has been happening here lately, but oh well….those are perils we must all deal with)

Well now with Cisco WebEx Meeting Center, you can pop out early and still pop into your web-based meeting, making your boss or client feel like your first priority when you’re actually out on the golf course.

The WebEx iPhone app is free and offers pretty much all the same features you would expect from the web-based version. Meeting attendees can simply access the WebEx via an iPhone join link in the meeting invitation.

Once you’re in, you can view content, which includes documents, applications, and screen shares with annotations, from any computer. You can also see who has joined the meeting, participate in individual or group chat, and adjust audio. I’m so impressed with the application’s offerings that I really want to be invited to a WebEx meeting just so I can see it in full force. Got anything good I can join?

So next time you’re running a tad late too the office and are stressing about hitting traffic, re-evaluate your options and consider taking that meeting while relaxing in bed with your pajamas on. The app, however, doesn’t support scheduling meetings from the iPhone, so you while to tear yourself away from your bed and bust out your laptop for that activity – but hell! You can do THAT.

The company, consisting of several small web portals and web hosting businesses, will have to liquidate its assets and return approximately 50 Million Euros to its faithful investors. Sadly, however, anything from 500 – 700 people will be rendered jobless. US-based Lycos Incorporated is a totally different company and is not directly hit by the end of Lycos Europe, but yes, it’s also a far cry from its glory days when its front page was the most visited frequented page on the web.

Looking at this case, one naturally wonders, “how many titans/giants must fall prey to this current which if I may add, worst global recession before we see any signs of stability coming about ?”

Also, if one were to go down memory lane by a mere 7 or 8 years, you’d remember that names like Napster, AltaVista and a few others which were once kings of the internet – they are just names now.

Coming to think of it, ever since Google came ’round, even a company like Yahoo has been displaced from the pinnacle it once sat on. Okay, it is HUGE still, as far as internet brands go, but hey! – thats about it. The way Google (with its monopolistic streaks) is taking over the internet, one can see where the internet will be 2 or 3 years from now – a Google dictatorship will be born (and we thought that the likes of Hitler were dead).

The fact of the matter, however, is that, the recession (with its current magnitude) won’t spare even companies that are raking in cash currently…. It is safe to assume that companies, especially old, tired companies which have been losing cash now for quite some time, will be forced to either sell out to the bigger fish, or be wiped out completely.

It is an excellent case study for economists, but – for the common man, it is a time of absolute mayhem, and uncertainty.

The story, even for big fish like Google, Microsoft (MSN), etc doesn’t look good.

Only time will tell what fate befalls the present leaders.

Although they DID support 16:9 ratio earlier, it was not standardized (unlike now).

Well! Now that YouTube.com has implemented yet another cool feature, can one suggest that this is a measure to consolidate their popularity ?

Obviously, like most Google services, YouTube.com can not be paralleled by a newbie website offering same services – but, at the same time…it doesn’t make sense to have a Google video running? (Why not merge the two?)

….and talking of competition, how can one forget Yahoo Video and the video services offered by sites like MSN and MegaVideo. (MegaVideo, is by the way, gaining a LOT of popularity). Anyway, thats a topic I shall talk about at a later date

This couldn’t come at a better time, considering the fact that the latest version of vBulletin (vB4) is due to come out – the fact of the matter is, would IPB 3 be able to overtake vBulletin 4 in terms of popularity and features ?

Now, from discussions on popular forums like vBulletin.com and DigitalPoint.com – we can make a safe observation that vBulletin has always been a version ahead of its contemporary IPB software. Call it brand value or a result of a better coding team, but the general trend has been

IPB 1.x = vB 2.x
IPB 2.x = vB 3.x

Now, however – with the rumours increasing by the day, could we say that the newest IPB 3.x will parallel vBulletin or possibly overtake it?

It is anybody’s game for the taking.

Navigation of links on your site plays a big role in determining the stickiness of your site (how long your visitor stays and explores your site). Ask yourself this, What do visitors do as soon as they open your site? They would probably read the content of the present page and then look around to find any other page that interests them.

• Clean Layout Design

A clean layout that uses a lot of white space enhances a site’s looks. Try to keep the focus on your content, use a template for this. Use fonts that will be available on all computers to prevent your site looking messed up.

• Optimum Load Time:

Make sure your load time is low.

For this you must:

Minimize Graphics, Flash and scripts: They hugely increase your file size.
Optimize your HTML & script code: Make sure that your site doesn’t have any unwanted tags or unused scripts.
Use Server Side Include (SSI) files where ever possible. SSI files once called from the web server reside in its cache so on subsequent requests they load faster.

• Design for all Screen Resolutions:

A site that is easy-to-use always encourages visitors to stay and read your content. For site with long pages of content this is very crucial as the amount of scrolling required is reduced. Suppose your site doesn’t look good for a particular resolution it is very probable that the visitor will close the browser window feeling that the web page is not for their viewing. Designing stretch layouts that fit any screen resolution ensures that you know all your visitors see a visually appealing and professional site.

• Ensure Web site scalability

Make sure your code and design is scalable. As technology advances and configuration of computers & their monitors keep increasing and varying it is impossible to test your site in all screen sizes and platforms.

• Cross Browser Compatible :
  • Make sure you check your site for Internet Explorer 5+, Mozilla Firefox 1.0, Opera 7.0 and Netscape Navigator 6+ as they constitute 95% of the worlds browsers.
