X-Games Real Ski is back for 2019. Real Ski is a fan-voted video contest with some of the best urban skiers around. Last year Armada’s own Phil Casabon took home gold and is looking for a repeat in 2019. This year Phil is joined by Kim Boberg and Henrik Harlaut to compete for Real Ski medals.

Tanner’s very first Freeride World Tour event ended in success as he took the home silver medal. After a week of intense conditions, the skies cleared over Hakuba Japan and made for a perfect day on the mountain. The Freeride World Tour is the worldwide circuit of freeride skiing with the best riders in the world competing on the most legendary alpine faces and the most renowned ski resorts across the world. Tanner’s results from the first stop in Japan proved he’s looking for gold and adds a whole new level of competition to the tour. We look forward to seeing Tanner back on the podium for the next event at Kicking Horse British Columbia on February 2 – 8.

Not many people think about the time and effort that go into getting a single 10 second urban shot. Most of the time you just watch the edits and its banger after banger with no insight on what it really took to accomplish. Last year Phil Casabon and Brady Perron teamed up to produce a gold medal winning Xgames Real Street Edit. Now, we are proud to present to you ‘En Particulier’ a Film documenting the struggle and passion it takes to be #1 in the streetz.

“En Particulier details Phil on a lively tour through his home province of Quebec. I was along for the ride as his videographer for a couple months of cold and Franglais. We have been friends for many years, allowing me to shed an honest light onto Phil’s sense of seriousness about craft and performance while maintaining an often-goofy attitude. The expressions of love, hype and struggle found in the flick weren’t meant to be seen by Phil’s audience, just the 90 seconds of action for his winning Real Ski video. After digesting the amount and personality of all the unseen footage, I thought it could be a refreshing Phil film. He let me take the reins and portray some of his h’art layered on top of beats made by his friends in Trois-Rivieres, a neighboring city to Phil’s Shawinigan. Catch Phil Casabon’s iconic mystique unveiled by filmer and friend Brady Perron during their time spent shooting Phil’s X Games Real Ski 2018 winning video. “En Particulier” takes the viewer through Casabon’s passionate process, raw thrill and Quebec roots. His playfulness, determination and coordination play out for 23 minutes of intimacy, struggle and heavy tricks, letting the audience get a closer look into Casabon’s mind and chemistry surrounding his beloved craft.

Joseph starts with a to scale drawing that allows him to properly keep proportions as he works close to the wall. In doing so he can quickly block out areas of shadow and highlight. These blocked colors help guide his final mark making.

Through the use of stencils every application of paint becomes finely guided. By restricting the ways he makes marks he has created a system that builds abstracted illustrations of the natural elements he depicts.

To cap off our collaboration with Evo, Armada’s Art Department dug into the archive of both new and old art. Everything the art Department creates does not always make it onto final skis, or even see the light of day. Evo presented us a unique opportunity with their gallery space to shine light on some of our unseen work, in order to provide insight to what all goes into the final products we make. Often times the original art that ends up on our topsheets or outerwear patterns is as unique as the final products themselves. Through the gallery space we were able to show the art behind the product as well as share stories of the processes that we use when creating our product line.

Tanner hall comes back with another instant classic. ‘Here After’ follows Tanner through his 17/18 season, filled with banger after banger this is one you’ll want to watch more than once. From one of the heaviest street segments we have ever seen Tanner put out, too months of backcountry from his home state of Montana, Tanner was stronger than ever and had one of the best seasons of his life.

Tanner has one of the biggest quivers out of any of our athletes and you can see this throughout the new flick. His weapon of choice is always his signature ski, The Magic J, but Tanner switched it up a bit more this year and can be seen crushing our all new Zero ARV 116 UL. He was stoked on the light weight design and preferred the ARV 116 UL for jumps over anything else.

Tanner still isn’t slowing down. He is tackling an all new aspect of skiing this year and we are stoked to see his unique style in a whole different discipline of skiing. Don’t miss Tanner on the Free Ride World Tour starting in a few months!

There’s one thing you probably know, Henrik is no stranger to the podium. Last year was no exception to that. First up was December’s Dew Tour, in Breckenridge Colorado. Dollo rolled into finals with ease, then secured gold with an insane score of 95. Starting out the run with a mind-blowing left lip rodeo 450 safety backslide, and finishing off with an insane triple 1620.

Fast Forward a couple months to X-Games Aspen. With a slope course that was practically made for the signature Dollo style. Throwing down one of the sickest runs Aspen has ever seen, Dollo came through on his final run to secure an X-Games gold medal. Less than 24 hours later, Dollo did what very few have done before, earning a second gold medal with two of the gnarliest triples of all time in X-Games Big Air.

Then on to one of everyone’s favorite events of the year, SLVSH cup. Held at Henrik’s home park in Andorra, Dollo was fired up and ready to go. Henrik seemed to make it through to finals with ease and paired up against another Armada Rider Quinn Wolferman. Watch the full game here because this is to epic to even talk about.

Henrik’s weapon of choice, his pro model aptly named “EDOLLO”. After being unchanged for years, mostly because Henrik loved it so much, Armada’s ski engineers and Henrik made a few small changes to make it even better. Longer sidewall makes the ski more solid while adding a touch of stiffness to the tail, makes this beast solid on almost any landing. Still with a perfect swing weight to get those triple 16’s around and strong enough to take a beating the “Edollo ski might be one of the best out. Learn more about the EDOLLO here.

Behind the Scenes

It had been a while, but in October 2017 the entire AR family had the chance to get together. It had been a few years since we’d all had that opportunity, but schedules all matched up to allow us all to spend a full week in Park City, Utah. Some travelled across the country, others had flown half the way around the world. No matter the distance travelled, everyone was ready to talk skiing, the state of the brand, new ideas and just catch up with friends they haven’t seen since the previous winter. Mike Hornbeck said it best when he said it was like the band was back together.

But this wasn’t just a reunion, there was work to do. The whole team had a chance to have their say on new design for products, what new products they need and how to improve the products that they use. Athlete driven product is the name of the game and, when the whole team joins in, sparks fly.

Day one, we headed straight to the local watering hole, Park City Brewery. We weren’t there just to sample the beer though, it was the location for the first photoshoots. Kimbo did get some time off and was stoked to get a behind the scenes tour and see how a small American Brewery actually gets down. The good times were flowing.

Besides the “Hard Work” we put these guys through, there’s a lot of fun to be had outside the office. Park City in October isn’t the best place to ski, but there’s plenty of other fun to be had. We took breaks from the office grind to rip the PC skate park every day. One night we took the whole crew bowling, and on the final night we drove deep into the Uinta Mountains to get away from the city and get down in the wilderness.

Taking all the athletes out to the middle of the woods is always a pretty wild experience in itself, but what made it even better was our very own Utah Rep and dependable fixer of good times, Ryan Moore, bringing out his razor for some rallying. Just be careful letting some of these guys behind the wheel, especially Sammy… not surprisingly he went a little too hard in the paint and flipped it over with Tanner in the passenger seat.

Ultimately we came out of this week with a stronger bond and a renewed, shared vision for the brand and ARfamily. We came out with better ideas for products, content creation, and for Armada as a whole. We are a family and we promise to ensure creativity always has a place in skiing. We base almost everything we do around our Athletes, because they are Armada.
