Thursday at Hye Camp - Week 4

Thursday was an awesome day. It actually sprinkled a little early in the morning which made it a bit cooler than the rest of the week. Our youngest girls are on their way to becoming avid fishers and archers and are dominating in those two areas. The camp was a buzz with talk of the talent show all day. Our participants delivered! They showed off their many talents and had the audience at the edge of their seats. We closed out our day with a traditional campfire and off to bed…lights out!

Wonderful Wednesday

Wonderful Wednesday

Today was a day filled to the brim with fun
It started out at chapel where we were greeted by the sun
Then breakfast, cabin cleanup, and morning classes made up our schedule text
The day seemed pretty usual with no indication of the excitement that was to come next.

The first ever Hye Camp Dunlapian Games started at lunch,
All of the cabins were mixed up to group new friends in a bunch.
Each team competed and no one wanted to make a mistake,
The reward for the winning team was sweet…getting to throw your counselor in the lake!

Then everyone washed up and got their hair nice and smooth
Anticipating the May the Forest be with You dance to show off their moves
As the sounds of campers singing and dancing echoed and the arbor twinkled with lights
We can’t help but stop and be thankful for our beautiful camp and what was a most memorable night.

Tuesday at Camp

Our day began with fishing at the lake,
About 40 campers woke up early to see who could cast the best bait,
A few fish were caught and promptly returned to their friends,
The campers watched the lake in awe not knowing where it ends.

Next up were classes including bible study and dance,
Not to forget Traditions & Customs and music classes where campers were encouraged to take a chance,
The afternoon sun smiled down on us while we swam, did crafts and enjoyed the outdoors
Then washed up for dinner that was so yummy we all wanted more.

As the sun began to set, we packed up our water bottles and flashlights,
And set off on a fun hike that is always best at night,
It would be easy to think “How could this day get any more amazing?”
But it could, and it did, when we all went stargazing!

Memories from Our First Full Day of Camp

Good morning sun!
You rise in the East and glisten on Ketchoyan Lake
A cool summer’s breeze dances through the trees
Rustling their leaves to create the sweet tunes of the Sequoias
Bullfrogs croak off in the distance while swallows chatter and chirp
Worshiping together, enjoying God’s splendor and giving thanks
Good morning sun!

It was a fantastic first full day of Hye Camp!

Some of our activities included:
Morning- Chapel, Armenian History, Bible Study, “Getting to know you” ice breaker activities
Afternoon- lakeside, archery, volleyball, basketball, soccer and arts & crafts
Evening - all camp photo, num nums and campfire

We are excited to see what today will bring.

Week 4 has started!!!

What an amazing first day of camp! It may have taken a little while longer than usual, but everyone arrived safely. After settling in everyone got to meet their cabin mates and it was off to Chapel followed by our first dinner as a camp family. Evening activities began with the much anticipated ice cream social which then led into our first campfire full of Boghos Zilch, a special performance by our directing staff and good old camp chants. All of the cabins took their pictures today and we have included them here for you to enjoy. We look forward to all the excitement in our first full day of camp tomorrow!

LAST DAY!!

Our Friday started with Divine/Badarak service. During morning classes kids got to learn about philanthropy and traditions and customs. On last day cooks spoiled us with lahmajoon and kebob for dinner! Later in afternoon kids could choose in what kind of sports activities they would like to perform in tournaments. Armenian dance is scheduled between 7 pm-8:30 pm. Our last night finished with SUPER CAMPFIRE.

WE GOT TALENT!

On Friday night, campers and staff got to perform in our talent show. Cabin 12 sang us a song. Harout showed us his different impressions. Lora and Kristen did lip singing (I want it that way). Michael&Mathew showed us their piano skills. Christine and Erik sang us a beautiful song. Luke made us laugh with his jokes. Dean Eric and cabin 10 performed us a "My Girl" song. Hayk and Knar showed us grape eating contest. Akaby and Knar made us all dance with their "hay jan hapama" song. Menas and Der Yegishe sang a song that Menas wrote himself. Armenian cooking was performed by Dean Erin and Regina. Campers are in high spirit,making many new friends and cementing old ties.

Day number three had lots planned. After morning classes, kids had Music/Singing classes taught by representatives from the diocese choir. LAHMAJOON! At Armenian cooking class, kids learned how to make lahmajoon and hospitality team taught how to pronounce each ingredient in Armenian and English. Dunlapian games were scheduled between 2:30pm -5pm. Kids practiced their knowledge in arts&crafts, canoe challenge, and field games. All birthday celebrations were scheduled in the evening, followed by a dance night with a DJ. It was such a pleasure to see for all of us (staff members) how they are having a blast and bonding with each other.

Day number two!!

Day 2 started with a chapel as usual followed by great breakfast with homemade pancakes. Many kids love to participate in fishing at 6AM!!! There was some lucky ones who got to experience how to catch a fish. Classes are scheduled between 10 am -12pm. Today morning classes were Armenian Dance, Music/Singing,Traditions&Customs and as always Bible study. Armenian dance class went amazingly well and kids could show their moves! Our chef made happy our strong side of the camp by serving steak for dinner. Night hike was scheduled at 7pm followed by star gazing at sport court and delicious num-nums (choreg).
