Alexander: “I thought that I would die”

In 1984, at the age of 23, Alexander Bard became seriously ill. The doctors thought he had AIDS – and that he would die. Last Tuesday, he talked about this life-altering experience on the Swedish TV show Min Sanning.

“The doctors were convinced that I would die, and I had no reason to disbelieve them, so I thought that I would die,” he said and continued: “The first thing the doctor asked me when I came in, weighing only 47 kilograms and in an obviously sick state, was: ‘Have you taken drugs intravenously?’ I answered yes. And the second question was if I had sex with someone of my own sex, and I said yes again.”

The doctors came to the conclusion that he had AIDS. But when his condition improved after a few weeks and he regained body weight again, it turned out that they had given him an incorrect diagnosis.

At that time, AIDS just began to get attention and knowledge about the disease was very limited.

“They knew nothing about AIDS or how to prevent it since there was no way to test it,” he said.

But the time thereafter became tough for Alexander, and he started going to therapy.

“I went through the experience of facing my own death […] I realized that I had to live a different life, or become a different person than the one I had been before,” Bard explained.

“I got this idea of myself that I should have been dead, but survived. Ever since then I have known that I am one of those people living longer than they are supposed to,” he said and added that this experience made him stop taking life “so bloody seriously.”

On a less tragic note, the interview also contained short but rare clips of Army of Lovers and Barbie (together with La Camilla and Jean-Pierre Barda).

Back when we were in our teens, this bitch-fight has driven our hormones into a collective clammy frenzy. By now, the notorious clash between La Camilla and Army of Lovers has become a Swedish TV classic. When Camilla talked about her upcoming book with Nyheter24, they brought this issue up again.

When everything was still hunky-dory: Army of Lovers at the height of their career

Excerpts:

There’s a clip from an interview with Stina Dabrowski that was recorded after you got booted out of Army of Lovers. The other members say very mean things about you in it…

Yes, it was a huge shock. They had been talking behind my back and it was very, very strange.

Have you forgiven them?

That was so long ago. Everything happened so fast and I was in a state of shock. It’s all very strange. We had worked ourselves to death and jealousy started to brew up. In my upcoming book, I’ll explain more about that time and reveal things that haven’t come to light until recently. Things that I didn’t know about back then.

For instance?

Well, I can’t talk about it now. But Carina Nunstedt (co-author of the book) and I did a lot of research and dug into what happened behind the scenes. It’s interesting, I can say.

Do you still regard the members as your friends?

I like Jean-Pierre Barda very much. Alexander Bard… I also like him, really I do. We’ve been very close for so many years, so it’s hard not to feel that way. But I was very surprised to find out what happened behind my back. If he’d come forward and apologize, I would forgive him. But I guess I will have to wait for that day when he realizes that he shouldn’t have done what he did.

Camilla teases a new music project with Tobias

Camilla Henemark and Tobias Karlsson may have been eliminated from Let’s Dance on Thursday, but that doesn’t mean that their professional relationship is over.

“Me and Tobias have been talking about making music together. We are having a meeting later today and also this weekend. The project is in the works, but I can’t reveal more than that right now,” she said on Friday. While at it, Camilla also confirmed that she’s about to head into the recording studio soon.

When being asked if we can expect her to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest next year, she replied: “We’ll see, haha. There are other platforms as well, but it’s clear that it’s going to be fun.”

Camilla on Let’s Dance: Week 7 – Getting the kiss-off

In a surprising turn of events on Thursday night, fan favourite Camilla Henemark was eliminated from the contestant pool. She walked off with her head held up high, all proud of herself and what she has accomplished.

“It’s been absolutely fantastic. But I wouldn’t have gotten that far if it hadn’t been for the people at home. So I really want to thank them, even it if sounds corny. I’m so grateful, just look what has happened to me, and the journey I have made,” Camilla said.

Indeed, she has repeatedly defied her fears by entering the dance floor – week by week.

Camilla on Let’s Dance: Week 6 – Argument with the judges

Just like in the weeks before, Camilla sweated blood and tears for Let’s Dance. This time, however, the judges weren’t on her ass like vultures to a week-old carcass. Instead, they put on their fake Cheshire Cat grins and forced some compliments out of their mouths. On top of that, Camilla and Tobias received unusually high points (compared to the previous episodes).

But Camilla was not in the mood for that crap. So she basically lashed out her imaginary whip (from the “Give My Life” video) and did a major inner eye-roll before telling the three judges to screw with somebody else – she phrased it a bit differently, of course.

“This does not feel right. This is just a strategy to get me out of the show,” Camilla said.

She later elaborated: “Do I think I went too hard on them? They have plagued me for six weeks. Normally, I would have appreciated the compliments, but not when they say that everything is fine and perfect when it’s not. I’m not stupid. They thought I would get no sympathy votes from the viewers when they say nice things for once.”

Before you ask, no, she wasn’t having a PMS moment. Her allegations didn’t come out of nowhere: Prior to the show, the Swedish press already revealed the judges’ new tactic to get rid of Camilla.

The Queen is not amused

In true Razzie Awards fashion, the judges acted all surprised over Camilla’s comments, pretended to be hurt and accused her of being ungrateful. Can I get a “Bitches, please!” up in here?

TV Alert: On May 15th, Swedish television SVT will broadcast a program called Min Sanning (eng. “My Truth”) and devote an entire hour to Alexander Bard. He will talk about everything from God to death. The episode with Bard is the seventh one in a line of eight with different famous Swedes. (Thanks to RoCher)

These Swedish kids weren’t even born or still in diapers during Army of Lovers‘ heyday. Yet they were standing outside in the cold all night long, blasting Army of Lovers classics and urging people to vote for La Camilla at Let’s Dance – until the police arrived and spoiled all the fun :-(

Camilla on Let’s Dance: Week 5 – Doing the Jive with injured knees

Why Camilla had to wear knee pads

The tough schedule is finally taking its toll on Camilla.

“It hurts, it hurts throughout my entire body,” she was quoted as saying before last Friday’s show.

Due to the hard training sessions, her knees were full of water and inflamed.

“That’s how it is when you start training after having been out of condition for so long. I rehearse every day for almost six hours,” she said.

Despite all the drama, she cut quite a dash on the dance floor.

And even though some of the judges are still opposed to her, one of them at least admitted that this was Camillas best performance yet and a progress from her previous efforts.

Camilla… daaanciiiiing with tears in her eyesss (or rather pads on her knees) – but she looked great doing the Jive.

Near the end of the show, Camilla & Tobias joined the other dancing couples on the dance floor for a traditional waltz…

Camilla on Let’s Dance: Week 4 (Video + Pictures)

The bitter judges want to see her go, but the Swedish public keeps voting their fingers off for Camilla Henemark – and so she soared into the next round.

Camilla is surprised about her popularity

“I’m very surprised that people want me to stay in the competition. I was really afraid that everybody would be sick of me because of all the headlines [about the affair with the King]. I was convinced that I would have to go,” said a thankful Camilla.

Special costumes

While the other participants had already tried on their samba outfits (which are leased and sewn to fit) way before the show started, Camilla had to wait a bit longer: “My clothes are always a little late since they don’t seem to be available in my size. The costume designers have to travel through the whole of Europe and raid all drag queen wardrobes. I’m sure that one day I’ll find a note that says ‘Charlie’ and a sewn in penis sheath,” she said laughingly.

Her outfit was ready for yesterday’s episode of Let’s Dance, though – and our Queen looked fierce in it. Check it out below.
