Young Living's Mission: Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils

It is Young Living's mission to provide the world with the highest quality, pure essential oils.

Young Living sought to find a term that would let customers know that its oils are pure and efficacious. The term "therapeutic grade" is used to differentiate Young Living's oils from those whose purity and effectiveness might be in question.

Young Living sends its oils to world-renowned, independent laboratories to determine that the oils are unadulterated and meet AFNOR standards where applicable.

The quantitative standards set by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation) outline the principal constituents and specified range (the minimum and maximum percentage of those constituents) for certain essential oils. Young Living's essential oils meet the AFNOR/ISO guidelines on essential oils for which guidelines have been established.

But Young Living goes a step further!

All oils are further tested for quality and standards compliance upon arrival at Young Living. There is no organization at the present time that can certify that an oil is therapeutic grade. This is simply the high standard set by Young Living.

Perhaps one of the most used and studied of any essential oil, lavender has long been known as a "universal oil" and is often used for many different health conditions.

The lavender herb has been used for centuries for its pleasing floral smell, and was considered an aphrodisiac by some during the middle ages.

Today, lavender oil is often used to aid with burns, skin conditions, allergies, insomnia, repelling insects, and many other concerns. Perhaps its best known property is its ability to help calm and relax when feeling stressed.

Lavender's herbaceous floral aroma is often used for its sedative properties, and is said to help promote health, love, peace and a general sense of well-being.

Daniel G. Amen M.D., founder of the Amen Clinics, specializes in assessment and treatment of brain diseases and disorders. For many years, Dr. Amen has recommended fish oil to patients as a source of omega 3. UCLA scientists have confirmed that fish oil is indeed a deterrent against Alzheimer’s.

Early warning signs
An interesting note: little or no ability to smell lemon, strawberries, pineapple, and natural gas are indicators of possible early stage Alzheimer's.

How to support a healthy brain?

With springtime comes activity … gardening, biking, canoeing, all sorts of sports activities.

A couple of days ago, I began my serious gardening – after having been pretty sedentary during a very cold winter. After the first day of digging, stretching, lifting, and using muscles that had been “asleep” for a while, I hurt so much, I could barely move.

With an increase in burning of wood, coal, and heating oil to keep warm, and cold air keeping air pollution closer to the ground, there is typically a higher amount of air pollution in the air than normal during the winter months. This increased pollution can lead to several different respiratory problems.

According to Connie and Alan Higley, authors of the Reference Guide for Essential Oils, "Diffusing essential oils in the home or work place is one of the best ways to purify our environment. The anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties of the oils, along with the negative ions and oxygenating molecules that are released when essential oils are diffused all help to reduce chemicals, bacteria, and metallics in the air." (page 311)

Several oils they recommend for air purification include cypress, eucalyptus, fir, grapefruit, lavender, lemon (to sterilize the air), lime and rosemary.
