<p>Found today an Image someone (Hi Rachel) took from me at the Blue Paradise Boat in Hurghada, Egypt some months ago.  This time with my own gear. Oh Yeah .. I am a nice weather diver. Did not do any dive in Holland yet. Why not? My gear is not complete to dive into the cold waters of Holland &#8230; that is the main reason. And of course a nice diving center in Holland would also help.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today I tried Backup software of<a href="http://cloudberrylab.com/?page=cloudberry-backup"> CloudBerry backup</a>. What is so special about this backup tool?</p>
<p>For months I am using CloudBerry Explorer for S3 (I have to shame myself not register the software yet) to see what has been stored in my buckets at Amazon&#8217;s S3 service. Weekly a backup of my webserver is made and with some scripts I made the stuff is transferred to the Amazon S3 Cloud storage service. but I have not a good backup for my Windows 7 machine yet. Data is stored to my NAS devices but not yet in the cloud. And when it is in the cloud I can access it whereever I am. Pricing is fair where I have unlimited storage. Around 10 to 20GB a month seems to cost me around 5 to 8$ I believe.</p>
<p>So Cloudberry made <a href="http://cloudberrylab.com/?page=cloudberry-backup">CloudBerry Backup</a> software able to run under Windows to tranfer local data to Amazon. Personally I do not think many people have or use Amazon S3 other than that it is being used in one or another kind of service like &#8216;dropbox&#8217;. But I am techie enough, pay by CreditCard to Amazon and a happy S3 user. So Cloudberry backup is very very suitable for me, and probably for you.</p>
<p>Note: users of Dunkel or Walrus can use it as well (next to Amazon S3)</p>

<p>starting the software and you can enter configure. Very convenient is the option to import your Amazon S3 settings from other Cloudberry software.</p>

<p>After Importing the data you can select backup profiles which are already defined or you select what kind of data you want. Excluding certain file types is possible. Storing data with some compression or with an encrypted password is possible as well and not to forget: get a notice when the backup fails or is finished.</p>

<p>Of course it is possible to remove files from the backup if the original file has been deleted as well. So purging has also a function with the CloudBerry Backup Software</p>

<p>And of course you can see and follow the whole process. The backup will take some time depending on how much MB&#8217;s or GB&#8217;s needs to be transferred. The local upload bandwidth is limiting the speed. This is unfortunately not very fast for many.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Thanks to the MKV specification and the usage of a certain part of that specs by the release group IMMERSE many Mediaplayer vendor had to update their devices with a new updated firmware where they follow the spec. When not following and using a TV series release from IMMERSE there was suddenly no sound anymore (and: I noticed that with those MKV&#8217;s they already put english subtitles as well).</p>
<p>So after getting a notice, the guys at Conceptronic (I am not part of Conceptronic anymore, so do not blame me when you have an issue) jumped to their developers and after debugging and testing a first release fixing this issue was released today.</p>
<p>Find here the firmware for the <a href="http://download.conceptronic.net/GrabnGo/CFULLHDMA/CFULLHDMA_FW_UPD_v1.24.09.xx%20(test).zip">CFULLHDMA</a> and here the one for the <a href="http://download.conceptronic.net/GrabnGo/CFULLHDMAi/CFULLHDMAi_FW_UPD_v1.24.09.10%20(test).zip">CFULLHDMAi</a></p>
<p>From a reliable source the release notes:</p>

<li>Added Youtube support again</li>
<li>Updated shoutcast API</li>
<li>Fixed the MKV no sound issue</li>
</ul>
<p>I could not keep this release unnoticed.</p>

Looking at the answers I still have a lot of advanced users as blog reader. The &#8216;common&#8217; man / woman did not enter any of the questions. So the probably I had to ask the question:</p>
<p><strong>How do you &#8216;sell&#8217; a NAS device to your brother, mother in law, sister or friend without computer knowledge but having a internet subscription with router &#8230;&#8230;.</strong></p>
<p>So newsservers: eweka has too less bandwidth towards my new ISP, causing only to give me 1MB/s download where I should be able to reach 3MB/s</p>
<p>Now I switched to XSNEWS but too bad: this weekend they suffer from issues on speed and authentication as well. Terrible !!!!  It seems normal in the IT field that things break too much and too easy. archhh</p>
<p>note: I download with nzbget my usenet content directly on my NAS and without any manual action it is parred and unpacked and put in a special folder</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Omdat mijn oude werkgever mijn internet abonnement niet meer betaald, zocht ik wat anders. Een alles in 1 pakket was de meest logische keuze gezien de kosten. Dus vragen we voor onze vakantie het digitale pakket van UPC aan.</p>
<p>Terug na 1 week vakantie hebben we 1 pakket binnen. Kabelmodem en HDTV pakket. Aansluiten dan maar. Gezien mijn &#8216;netwerk&#8217; ervaring een fluitje van een cent, maar na uren wachten geen ONLINE status van het kabelmodem en ook geen &#8216;On Demand&#8217; functionaliteit.</p>
<p>Dan ga je dus voor 0,10 cent per minuut bellen met de Helpdesk. Sorry dat ik het moet schrijven UPC, maar daar zat iemand die zelf uit Maastricht kwam en niet wist dat Apeldoorn niet dicht bij Amsterdam ligt (ja in het alfabet). Dit om toch mij maar te vertellen dat ik via de UPC winkel een retour versterker moet aanschaffen.</p>
<p> Als &#8216;On Demand&#8217; niet werkt dan ligt het 100% aan de signaal kwaliteit en dat zelfde geldt voor het kabelmodem (erg vaag als er maar een kabeltje van 30cm direct op de UPC lijn hangt, maar goed geen enkel argument van mij was een goede. Er wordt vanaf deze helpdesk geen enkele poging ondernomen anders dan dat er heel gauw gesproken wordt over de 100% garantie die via een mannetje die aan de deur komt wordt afgegeven.</p>
<p>En als de klant dan een beetje tegensputtert omdat iemand niet 100% kan garanderen dat deze om 12 uur in de middag thuis is, maar dat de persoon op 5 minuten afstand beschikbaar is en je dan wel heel graag een telefoontje zou willen hebben dan werkt het belscript niet meer. Geen garanties, voorrij kosten van 65 euro, gewoon weer weg gaan  .. etc..</p>
<p>Waar is nu ineens de klantvriendelijkheid gebleven? Hier is werk aan de winkel.</p>
<p>Maar dan maak ik gebruik van een dienst: Twitter. Ik heb in een paar<a href="http://www.aroundmyroom.com/twitter/"> twitter berichten</a> mijn ongenoegen kenbaar gemaakt richting UPC (Ik heb via HP uitstekende support gekregen via Twitter, dus wellicht werkt het ook voor UPC) ..  De volgende dag zie ik ineens dat UPC via Twitter met mij contact zoekt. Ik geef wat gegevens en wordt zelfs onder het voetbal gebeld om eea door te spreken. De vriendelijkheid en de service is geheel terug.</p>
<p>Ondanks dat een aansluitmannetje in de planning staat denkt een van de 5 UPC Twitter support mensen (^ED) dat het probleem zich gewoon in de kast bij het appartement zit en dat daar het retoursignaal niet aanstaat. Dit kon helaas niet 1-2-3 gechecked worden maar een dag later had ik de bevestiging via Twitter dat dit inderdaad het geval was. Het netwerk mannetje (dat is een ander mannetje dan het aansluit mannetje) komt ook langs.</p>
<p>Vandaag ging het netwerk mannetje aan de slag. Onderburen bleken op een frequentie te zitten die bij ons stoorde. En toen dat was opgelost mocht het aansluitmannetje via zijn PC nog even de frequenties in het kabelmodem goed zetten zodat alles kon gaan werken. Niet veel later werkte onze telefoon, onze internet verbinding en het On Demand verhaal.</p>
<p>Het Aansluitmannetje die iets later kwam keek daarvoor nog in de meterkast en vertelde tegen Lilian: ik zie dat ik hier niet hoef te zijn, jullie weten exact hoe jullie hier iets moeten aansluiten, mooi patchrekje btw ;-). Mevrouw: ik ben hier nooit geweest &#8230;..</p>
<p>Al met al via Twitter en de mensen die langskwamen uitstekende support gekregen. Het is alleen jammer dat het nodig was en dat de callcenter medewerker absoluut niet in staat is om een juiste support aan mij te geven. Maar goed: er kan altijd een verbeterpunt gevonden worden. Dus even een pluim voor ^ED en de 2 mannetjes.</p>
<p>Na meer dan 10 jaar bij XS4ALL (UUCP en Internet) klant te zijn geweest ben ik er nu bijna weg &#8230; Spijt? Nee, want KPN ADSL is beter als XS4ALL Only vooral op performance niveau (overboeking van de DSL lijnen). In de 10 jaar maar heel weinig storing gehad dus wat dat betreft wordt dat nog afwachten met UPC ;-)</p>

<p>Sorry for the lack of updates lately but I am changing interests and abandoning the support of products I previously developed. Sorry but no time.</p>
