Leandro Trossard is a key player for Arsenal and he’s now had his say on whether he’d like to see Spurs go down or not.

Trossard has been crucial for the Gunners in recent weeks and is battling it out with Gabriel Martinelli for a place in the Champions League final starting XI.

Of course, across North London, Tottenham could be relegated to the Championship if things do not go their way this weekend and West Ham can win against Leeds.

For Arsenal fans, this would be the dream scenario with their rivals.

But as for the players, just how would they feel? Well, Leandro Trossard has told Play Sports how he’d feel.

Leandro Trossard says if he wants Tottenham to go down or not

There simply cannot be an Arsenal fan out there who does not want to see Tottenham go down this season.

That, coupled with Arsenal’s own success, means it would be the perfect season.

However, for Trossard, it’s no the be-all and end-all.

Asked if he would prefer it if Tottenham went down, Trossard replied.

“Personally, no, not really.

Before not being able to resist a sly dig at Spurs’ record against the Gunners in recent times.

“It’s often three points for us.”

With Trossard such a key player for Arsenal and having a good track record against Spurs, one might expect him to have more of a feeling towards them.

The reality, though, is Arsenal are laser focused on their own work.

Seeing Spurs go down is just another note in a busy Premier League season and really, it’s a big fixture that the club is losing out on next season.

Viktor Gyokeres’ transformation in the second half of this season has been one of the more compelling subplots of Arsenal’s title-winning campaign.

But a key reason behind it may surprise a few people.

According to The Times, assistant coach Gabriel Heinze has played a significant role in improving Gyokeres’ hold-up play and link play.

These were the sort of areas that had been seen as weaknesses of the Swedish striker, as he struggled to shake off his reputation as a flat-track bully in the early part of the season.

There were clear signs of that improvement in his display against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, where he was a consistent presence and converted a composed penalty.

Heinze replaced Carlos Cuesta as one of Mikel Arteta’s assistants prior to this season.

Arteta knew him from their time together at PSG and valued his fierce competitiveness.

Roy Keane, who was Heinze’s captain at Manchester United, famously described him as “a nasty f***er” in training in his autobiography.

That intensity is exactly what Arteta wanted to bring to the coaching staff.

But his influence has also contributed to a dramatic improvement in Arsenal’s disciplinary record — from 70 yellow and six red cards last season, the highest of any club, to 50 yellows, no reds and no penalties conceded this term.

How Arsenal unlocked Viktor Gyokeres as a weapon

As much as Heinze has been credited for Gyokeres’ improvement, it has not just been down to individual coaching.

Although some had already made up their mind on the £55 million striker being a complete flop, Wayne Rooney has been among those praising him throughout the season.

Now, with 21 goals across all competitions, Gyokeres has won the majority of fans over, and it’s largely because Arsenal have found smarter ways to use him.

Rather than asking him to hold up play under pressure all the time, they look to feed him early and allow his explosive pace and strength to do the damage in one-on-one situations.

Viktor Gyokeres has found his best form at exactly the right time, but it’s no accident. Behind the scenes, the work has been going on for months.

Arsenal have got through this season by having high standards throughout the squad and those standards are all the more important in training.

All the best teams in the world train like they play and do let the standard drop.

Mikel Arteta is big on this and we saw a few seasons ago on the Amazon Prime docuseries how he demanded standards in a dressing room rant.

<use href="#list-arrow-svg"></use>READ MORE: https://www.arsenalinsider.com/news/ousmane-dembele-reveals-what-he-really-thinks-of-mikel-artetas-arsenal-team-ahead-of-facing-psg/

Indeed, that means even those not playing week in week out can have an impact by keeping things at a high level.

And according to Eberechi Eze, the most competitive trainer is very much a player who doesn’t always play.

Eberechi Eze says Gabriel Jesus is Arsenal’s most competitive trainer

Arsenal’s squad is now a winning squad after capturing the Premier League title and it’s little wonder things are competitive in training.

However, for most of us Arsenal fans, Gabriel Magalhaes is probably the name that jumps out when we think who might be the most serious in training.

But while acknowledging Gabriel is competitive, Eberechi Eze has actually named Gabriel Jesus as the one who is most competitive.

<figcaption title="LONDON COLNEY, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 22: (L-R) Jack Henry-Francis, Max Dowman and Gabriel Jesus of Arsenal during a training session at Sobha Realty Training Centre on November 22, 2024 in London Colney, England.
The Brazilian striker has not always been a regular this season but given he was one of Mikel Arteta’s first big signings, his impact at the club has been huge.

Like a few in this current Arsenal squad, Jesus faces an uncertain future this summer.

@fotmobapp
Arsenal quickfire questions with PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPION Eberechi Eze 🤩 #arsenal #eze #premierleagie
♬ original sound – FotMob

But hearing Eze pick him here tells us everything we need to know about him.

Jesus is clearly a driver of standards and competitive behaviour in training. That then translates onto the pitch and in a nutshell, is why Arsenal have delivered this season.

Arsenal have already started planning for the summer transfer window.

Andrea Berta wants to strengthen three key positions – left-wing, right-back and central midfield – and several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

One of those is West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes, but there is now some bad news for the Gunners.

Arsenal target Mateus Fernandes is likely to join Manchester United

Fernandes has made a fantastic name for himself in England over the last two seasons.

The Portuguese midfielder was very impressive for Southampton, and he has been even better since joining West Ham last year.

Fernandes’ performances have alerted several top clubs in the Premier League and abroad, and he is expected to be on the move once the window opens.

Arsenal like the £80 million-rated Fernandes and view him as a target to bolster their midfield, but their chances of signing him have taken a hit.

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg has now revealed that it’s looking like the Hammers’ star will end up at Old Trafford this summer.

He said on the United! United! United! podcast: “There are quite a few clubs in for him.

“The information I had this week was if he were to stay at any club in England, then the place he’d be most likely to go is (Manchester) United.”

Arsenal won’t be disappointed if they miss out on Mateus Fernandes

Fernandes checks a lot of boxes for Arsenal.

He is still only 21, is an incredible talent with huge potential, already has Premier League experience, and is a great option as a backup.

However, that doesn’t mean Arsenal should break the bank on him.

Mikel Arteta already has Myles Lewis-Skelly playing brilliantly in the middle of the park, and he could end up saving Arsenal millions in that role this summer.

So, if Fernandes is available for a reasonable fee, Arsenal should get him. If not, no problem!

Sandro Tonali is one of the names being mentioned for a move to Arsenal this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen again.

Tonali has developed into one of the premier midfield players in England and with Newcastle in an uncertain financial position, there are suggestions he could leave.

Arsenal are huge fans of Tonali and with a new midfielder on the list, his signing makes sense.

However, while some are suggesting a move to Arsenal or Man United is inevitable, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has suggested different.

Sandro Tonali could now end up staying at Newcastle

There is no doubting that Tonali would help improve Arsenal.

His quality and proven ability in midfield would boost an already strong squad at The Emirates.

However, according to Downie, Tonali could now end up staying a Newcastle player.

“We had a message from one of our colleagues over at Sky Italy this morning to say that there’s actually been, as far as he understood, some direct contact between both Manchester United and Newcastle for the potential departure of or potential transfer of Tonali to Old Trafford,” Downie revealed on Sky Sports.

<figcaption title="NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND - MARCH 4: Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Manchester United at St James' Park on March 4, 2026 in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom.
“And the good news for you guys is at this current moment, I’m told that is not the case. And there’s been no talks, no contact from Manchester United towards Newcastle for Tonali.

“And I have to say just the noises I’m hearing, it feels a bit it feels like there’s more chance of him staying now than probably there was a few weeks ago.”

<use href="#list-arrow-svg"></use>READ MORE: https://www.arsenalinsider.com/news/ousmane-dembele-reveals-what-he-really-thinks-of-mikel-artetas-arsenal-team-ahead-of-facing-psg/

With Tonali likely to cost north of £70m, Arsenal might well feel there are better value players out there.

Of course, within that big fee you are paying for a player who is already settled in England and crucially, does not need to get up to speed with the Premier League.

Still, it does feel like the situation is cooling a bit and maybe, that’s the right thing for Arsenal to do right now.

Arsenal are prepared to take a significant financial hit on one out-of-favour player this summer.

Miguel Delaney is reporting that the club will ask for just £5 million for Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 for £45 million, and once looked like the final piece in Mikel Arteta’s attacking puzzle.

Arriving with City teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jesus’ impact in that first season was immediate.

His energy, pressing, link-up play and intelligent movement helped propel Arsenal to their first genuine title challenge under Arteta.

But persistent injuries have taken a heavy toll, and the Brazilian now finds himself behind Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz and potentially even Mikel Merino in the pecking order as a centre-forward option.

Jesus has scored 31 goals in 122 appearances for the Gunners.

Gabriel Jesus’ time at Arsenal is up

Jesus has been an unused substitute in eight of Arsenal’s last 12 Premier League matches and did not even make the squad for the West Ham game.

He has one year remaining on his contract and is almost certain to leave this summer.

Intermediaries have reportedly offered him to AC Milan and former club Palmeiras, and there is significant interest from other clubs in Brazil.

Having also missed out on Brazil’s World Cup squad, Jesus will take his time deciding his next move.

For Arsenal, removing his wages will go a long way in making room in the budget, regardless of the fee received.

Those funds, combined with player sales, will go towards funding their summer transfer plans.

Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez remains the primary target according to Delaney, and the Gunners are also tracking Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi.

Ben White and Gabriel Martinelli are among those also expected to depart as Arteta and Andrea Berta look to prioritise adding elite quality to the title-winning side.

Arsenal are Premier League champions because they were the best team in England this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side handled enormous pressure, battled through an injury crisis and eventually overcame Manchester City to bring the title back to north London after 22 years.

However, despite everything the Gunners have achieved, there are still people trying to discredit them.

Some critics have complained about Arsenal’s style of play, while others continue moaning about their effectiveness from set-pieces.

Former Sunderland, Wolves and Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy is clearly fed up with hearing all of it.

Mick McCarthy tells Arsenal critics to ‘shut up’ after title win

Throughout the season, Arsenal have constantly had to deal with strange criticism despite sitting at the top of the Premier League table.

Some people claimed Arteta’s side only scored from corners, while others suggested they were too defensive or pragmatic compared to previous champions.

McCarthy clearly thinks those arguments are ridiculous.

The experienced manager passionately defended Arsenal and blasted the people trying to downplay what they have achieved this season.

When asked for a message to Arsenal’s critics, McCarthy said on talkSPORT: “I’d say, ‘Shut up the lot of you, you’re a bunch of clowns. They’ve won the league.

Photo by Stuart MacFarlane/Arsenal FC via Getty Images

“People who don’t play the game, who don’t manage the game, don’t understand the stresses.

“When you were nine points clear, and then they lose one or draw one, and suddenly City are playing well, it is so difficult to maintain your equilibrium and do exactly what you have been doing for all those months.”

McCarthy then praised Mikel Arteta’s men even further for overcoming Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.

He added: “It’s amazing what they’ve done. They’ve beaten Man City, who have spent more than anybody.

“And I’m a City fan, I wanted them to win it. But yet, I’m still pleased for them (Arsenal). Congratulations to Arsenal. Having finished second last year, good luck to them. They deserved it this year.”

People will always hate on Arsenal but the champions will not care

The reality is that Arsenal were always going to receive criticism the moment they won the title. That is simply what happens when a massive football club becomes successful again.

Some rival supporters cannot accept Arsenal being back on top, so they desperately look for excuses to downplay the achievement.

However, Arteta and his players genuinely will not care what anybody says now. They are champions of England, and nobody can take that away from them.

In fact, Arsenal now have the perfect opportunity to annoy the critics even more by going on to win the Champions League as well.

If they complete the double in Budapest, the meltdown from some people will honestly be generational.

Noni Madueke was not having it when the suggestion was put to him that Arsenal are facing the best attacking side in the Champions League.

Speaking to Ziggo Sport ahead of the final in Budapest, the Arsenal winger was asked what kind of game fans could expect given PSG’s attacking threat.

“We’re probably one of the best attacking sides as well though, no? In terms of the Champions League this season,” Madueke said, before a wry smile.

“I think—have we not scored the most goals? So, it’s the best attacking side and the best defensive side.”

He is not entirely right on the numbers — PSG have actually scored 44 goals in this season’s Champions League compared to Arsenal’s 29.

He is more likely referring to Arsenal’s numbers during the league phase of the competition, where the Gunners were in fact the highest goalscorers during those eight matchweeks (23 to PSG’s 21).

In terms of defensive dominance, Arsenal have been in a league of their own.

Arsenal have conceded just six goals in the competition all season, compared to PSG’s 22, and their goal difference of +23 edges PSG’s +22 by a single goal.

On PSG specifically, Madueke struck a respectful but confident tone. “Of course they’re a very good team. The reigning champions, a team we have a lot of respect for, but we have a lot of belief in ourselves and God willing the game goes our way.”

Noni Madueke is right to be confident ahead of the Champions League final

The general consensus is that PSG are entering the Champions League final as favourites, and rightly so. They are the defending champions.

But that may well suit Mikel Arteta’s side just fine.

Securing the Premier League title has lifted the weight of pressure from their shoulders, and now the players are confident.

The squad is healthy too, with Mikel Merino returning to fitness and fingers are crossed that Jurrien Timber can make a full recovery in time.

Ian Wright is among those who believe Arsenal can cause an upset in Budapest.

For Madueke personally, winning the final could be a chance to silence some doubters.

His call-up to England’s World Cup squad drew scepticism given his league numbers — just two goals and one assist.

However, he has fared considerably better in Europe, contributing four goals and assists in nine Champions League appearances, six of them starts.

He scored the goal that put them in front against Bayern Munich back in November.

On the biggest stage, he has shown up. Budapest on 30 May does not get any bigger.

Bukayo Saka is viewed by many as Arsenal’s biggest player.

The academy graduate is the face of the club, the highest earner in the squad and the player who supporters look towards in the biggest moments.

Saka has carried enormous responsibility for years now and has handled it remarkably well despite still being so young.

However, Mikel Arteta has now suggested that another Arsenal star may actually be the club’s most important figure – Declan Rice.

Mikel Arteta suggests Declan Rice is Arsenal’s biggest player

When Arsenal spent more than £100 million to sign Rice from West Ham, the expectation was that he would become one of the leaders of Arteta’s project.

However, it now sounds like the Arsenal manager believed the midfielder could become something even bigger than that.

Rice has been absolutely phenomenal ever since arriving in North London and has delivered elite performances almost every single week.

The England international’s consistency, mentality and leadership have made him one of the driving forces behind Arsenal becoming Premier League champions.

Arteta clearly saw those qualities long before Rice even kicked a ball for the club.

Photo by Richard Sellers/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images

Speaking recently, the Arsenal boss revealed on TNT Sports: “With Declan, I was so convinced that he was going to be the lighthouse of this football club because he’s got that power.

“I said, ‘If you are able to put yourself in the benefit of the team, I think the team is going to make you the biggest player in this club, and it will happen in that order.’”

Arteta then praised Rice even further for the impact he has had this season.

He added: “He’s been phenomenal. He’s been an inspiration for all the boys. When you talk about a player with that level of consistency for that many games, it’s just something remarkable, and yeah, we are here because of players like him, that’s for sure.”

That clearly sounds like a manager talking about the centrepiece of his entire team.

Declan Rice could overtake Bukayo Saka at Arsenal

Even though Bukayo Saka is still viewed as Arsenal’s franchise player, there is now a genuine argument that Rice has become just as important – if not more.

The midfielder has arguably been Arsenal’s most consistent performer ever since joining the club and is a serious contender for Player of the Season once again.

That level of reliability is incredibly rare.

Only a few months ago, Arsenal told agents that nobody at the club would earn more than Saka. However, if Rice continues performing at this level, that stance may eventually need to change.

When contract negotiations begin this summer, Arsenal may have no choice but to make Rice their top earner too.

Ian Wright has pinpointed one Arsenal player above all others following the club’s Premier League title win.

Speaking exclusively on the Arsecast podcast, the Arsenal legend was asked to reflect on the title triumph, before singling out Ben White.

“I’ll pinpoint Ben White. What Ben White has done, when he arrived for 50 million — everyone went f–king nuts because we paid 50 million for him, but he’s proven to be one of our greats in terms of signings,” Wright said.

“That man has virtually given his body up for what he’s done. He has given his body to Arsenal Football Club.”

He then drew a deeply personal comparison. “Let me tell you, as someone who has left there, my knee is f**ked now, my ankle is fused. I would do it again, and I’m sure Ben White would do it again.”

White sustained a significant medial ligament injury during Arsenal’s 1-0 win at West Ham earlier this month, leaving the London Stadium with his knee in a brace.

Arsenal confirmed he would miss the remainder of the season, ruling him out of the Champions League final against PSG in Budapest and ending his World Cup hopes with England.

Ben White’s Arsenal legacy amid uncertain future

White joined Arsenal from Brighton for £50 million in 2021, a fee that drew widespread scepticism at the time.

He silenced his critics almost immediately, playing every Premier League game in his debut season and becoming a key figure under Arteta.

Rob Holding once described him as a “mentality monster” after White played through what appeared to be a serious hamstring injury against Newcastle, perfectly encapsulating what Wright meant by “giving up his body”.

Injuries have taken their toll in recent seasons, with Jurrien Timber becoming first choice at right back.

But White had fought his way back into the team this season following Timber’s injury, and played 30 games in total.

He looked set to start in Budapest and may have even made the plane for the World Cup before the West Ham injury struck.

With speculation around his uncertain future, White may have already played his last game for Arsenal.

If so, Wright’s tribute is a fitting send-off for a player who gave everything.
