Corporate Art Collections

So many of you have asked for a list of corporate art collections. There are approximately 1500 serious companies collecting worldwide.

This is a significant cumulative patron of art, owning and displaying several million art works ... worth billions of pounds - almost the same the value of those displayed in city museums.

The potential for growth in this area is awesome as the economic evidence for contributing to culture and creating an inspiring work environment is mounting.

If you have discovered any other online galleries maintained by corporations, we'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Tate Modern, Bankside, London

The collections in Tate Modern consist of works of international modern and contemporary art dating from 1900 onwards. The collection is on display on levels three and five of the building, while level four houses large temporary exhibitions and a small exhibition space on level two houses work by contemporary artists.

The Turbine Hall, which once housed the electricity generators of the old power station, is five storeys tall with 3,400 square metres of floorspace. It is used to display large specially-commissioned works by contemporary artists, between October and March each year in a series sponsored by Unilever. This series was planned to last the gallery's first five years, but the popularity of the series has led to its extension until at least 2012.

Tate Liverpool, UK

The gallery presents displays of work from the Tate collection alongside special exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. The special exhibition programme, presented on the Gallery's fourth floor, brings together works from national and international collections, both public and private.

Since the gallery opened in 1988, it has presented over 150 different exhibitions and collection displays of work by hundreds of different artists, some seen for the first time in the UK at Tate Liverpool.

Two decades on from the Tate's opening in Liverpool, the economy has continued to recover and has experienced growth rates higher than the national average. Inner-city development projects have brought both government support and funding to the city. Liverpool now has more museums and art galleries than any other city in the country.
