In this dark comedy, the severed head of circus magician Juan Perez the Great narrates the story of how and why it was severed. The story begins with a dreadful financial crisis that may close the circus and in desperation, the magician promises a sensational beheading act, hoping to bring back the masses to the circus. With the clock ticking and no money to build an apparatus to create the illusion, he steals an original guillotine.

En esta comedia de humor negro, el mago de circo Juan Pérez el Grandioso cuenta la historia de cómo su cabeza fue cercenada. Una terrible crisis económica podría cerrar el circo y, en un acto de desesperación, Juan Pérez promete montar un show sensacional de decapitación que bien podría devolverle sus días de gloria. Join us for this special presentation of typical music from Eastern Venezuela. The “Joropo” is a style of music played in the plains area that is shared by Venezuela and Colombia. Joropo Oriental is a rare Venezuelan version of the genre that is characterized by an improvisational style of singing, a variety of stringed instruments such as the bandola, mandolin, guitar and cuatro plus a regionally distinct style of maraca that provides the only percussive element. This group represents the masters of this endangered Venezuelan art form. This program is made possible by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Set in Puerto Rico during the late ‘80s, this coming-of-age film captures the impact of musical tastes among high school students in their social structure. Students who preferred American pop were called rockeros and considered to be part of the popular crowd.  In contrast, students who preferred salsa or Latin beats were called cocolos and considered outcasts. The story evolves when a cocolo and a rockera must dance together to compete on a television dance show.  This film will make you dance to the rich musical roots of the island of enchantment.

Party Time, ambientada en Puerto Rico durante los últimos años de la década de los ochenta, nos acerca a la importancia del gusto musical de los estudiantes de secundaria que determina su lugar en la sociedad, su popularidad y su aceptación. Aquellos que preferían escuchar pop americano eran rockeros y considerados parte del grupo. Por el contrario, los que escuchaban salsa tradicional eran cocolos y considerados marginados. La historia evoluciona cuando un cocolo y una rockera bailan juntos para competir en un programa de televisión. Una película con baile…y mucho sabor musical de la isla del encanto.
