Introducing the jury of the 30th FIFA presided over by Carole Laure

Montreal, February 6, 2012 – For the 30th edition of the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA), held from March 15 to 25, 2012, founding director René Rozon is pleased to appoint singer-actor-director Carole Laure (Canada) as president of the jury. She will be joined by Simon Brault (Canada), CEO of the National Theatre School of Canada; filmmaker Jérôme de Missolz (France); Christopher Jackson (Canada), conductor and Artistic Director of the Studio de musiques anciennes de Montréal; and art historian and museologist Salvador Nadales (Spain). “I am delighted with the high-quality cultural credentials of the jurists, all of whom are leaders in their field,” declared René Rozon. “An ideal formula for lively and stimulating deliberations.” Carole Laure made her acting debut in Quebec with filmmaker Gilles Carle. Together they made seven films, including La mort d’un bûcheron, La tête de Normande St-Onge and Maria Chapdelaine. She went on to appear in some thirty feature films, working with such directors as Bertrand Blier, John Huston, Dusan Makavejev and Alain Corneau, as well as in two musicals: Gilles Carle’s Fantastica and Lewis Furey’s Night Magic, co-scripted by Leonard Cohen. Since 1977, her career has involved both acting and singing. In collaboration with Lewis Furey, she recorded seven albums that were highly successful in North America, Japan and French-speaking Europe. For her concerts and eight music videos she has worked with choreographers Édouard Lock, Wim Vandekeybus and Claude Godin. As a director, her first two feature films, Les fils de Marie (2001) and CQ2 (2003), were both selected for La Semaine de la critique at the Cannes Film Festival, while her third, La capture, (2006) was presented at the Locarno Film Festival in 2007. Carole Laure was Vice-President of the Jury for the section Un certain regard at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. She is currently writing her fourth film, the working title of which is Pensée sauvage. Born in Montreal, Simon Brault has been the CEO of the National Theatre School of Canada since 1997, after coordinating the restoration and revitalization of Montreal’s historic Monument-National. He is also the initiator of the Journées de la Culture, a vast awareness campaign that was launched throughout Quebec in 1997. A founding member of Culture Montréal, he became the organization’s first elected president in 2002. Two years later, he was appointed Vice-Chair of the Canada Council for the Arts. In 2008, he received the Keith Kelly Award for Cultural Leadership from the Canadian Conference of the Arts. For many years he has campaigned for the recognition of the artistic community’s contribution to society. Simon Brault is an Officer of the Order of Canada and of the Ordre national du Québec. Beginning in the late 1970s, Jérôme de Missolz was actively involved in the new cinematic currents and experimental film cooperatives in Paris. He was behind the camera for numerous films before gradually turning to institutional films, documentaries and features. Montréal, le 20 septembre 2011 - Le Festival International du Film sur l’Art (FIFA) s’associe pour une quatrième année, au Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée, pour la présentation des Découvertes du Film sur l’Art. Du 21 septembre 2011 au 15 février 2012, les cinéphiles et amateurs d’art sont attendus sur le circuit des lieux de diffusion culturels à Montréal, pour huit représentations de films sur l’art. La saison 2011-2012 offre quatre films marquants de la 28e édition du FIFA. Le concept est unique à Montréal ! La tournée, animée par Francine Moreau, propose, après chaque projection, une discussion avec un spécialiste de la discipline et des œuvres de l’artiste à l’écran. L’entrée est gratuite. Le FIFA au th��tre de verdure danse et brique lego � l�honneur

Montréal, le mercredi 29 juin 2011 – Le Festival International du Film sur l’Art (FIFA) s’associe à nouveau au Théâtre de Verdure du Parc Lafontaine et y présentera quatre films cet été. Un programme double est à l’horaire le dimanche 24 juillet avec la projection de La brique Legoet de Jane Birkin, so french. Les œuvres portant sur la danse The Sacred Dancer (20 juillet) et New London Calling (3 août)compléteront la programmation. Le mercredi 20 juillet à 22h30 The Sacred Dancer de Diego d’Innocenzo Biswajit est un jeune garçon de 15 ans qui vit à Dimirisena, un petit village de huttes de terre dans la province indienne de l’Orissa. Il est l’un des derniers gotipuas, les enfants sacrés donnés au temple à la naissance qui apprennent à danser depuis l’enfance en l’honneur du dieu Shiva. Maquillés et revêtus de vêtements féminins, ils représentent les devadasi qui traduisent dans leur danse la nature androgyne de la divinité. Chaque jour, le jeune Biswajit suit un entraînement de fer. Mais, arrivé au stade de l’adolescence, il devra bientôt quitter le temple pour être remplacé par un nouvel enfant qu’il initiera à la danse, selon la tradition. Néanmoins, le jeune homme ne peut imaginer une vie en dehors du temple, il ne peut imaginer une vie sans la danse, son unique passion. La présentation sera précédée des spectacles Locked Up Laura et Zip Zap Zoom – Les Chambres des Jacques présentés par les Ballets Jazz de Montréal. Le dimanche 24 juillet à 21h La brique Lego de Anna-Célia Kendall En 2009, la brique Lego fêtait ses 50 ans et ses 320 milliards d’éléments vendus depuis 1949. Son créateur, le Danois Ole Kirk Christiansen, a su créer un concept révolutionnaire grâce à ce jouet indémodable : des briques en plastique modulaires qui peuvent être verrouillées ensemble grâce à un ingénieux système de plots et de tubes cylindriques. Avec deux briques à huit tenons, on réalise 46 combinaisons d’assemblage différentes, avec six briques, c’est plus de 900 millions de possibilités. Du danois leg godt (littéralement, « qui se joue bien »), le nom Lego est devenu synonyme de facilité, d’imagination, de succès, de créativité et... de design. Le dimanche 24 juillet à 21h Jane Birkin, so french de Gilles de Maistre Le parcours de Jane Birkin, chanteuse, comédienne et militante engagée dans des causes humanitaires, femme exemplaire, extravagante, attachante, émouvante, ancrée dans le réel et projetée vers l’avenir. Le film revient sur son enfance, le pensionnat dans l’île de Wight avec son frère Andrew, les vacances familiales avec sa mère, l’actrice Judy Gamble, et son père, commandant dans la Royal Navy ; ses rencontres mémorables, qu’elle partage avec une touchante nostalgie ; les trois hommes de sa vie, Serge Gainsbourg, John Barry, le cinéaste Jacques Doillon, et ses trois filles. Des extraits de films illustrent une carrière bien remplie au cinéma, des comédies aux films d’auteurs. Le mercredi 3 août à 22h30 New London Calling d’Alla Kovgan Une horde de 75 enfants envahissent entièrement la ville de New London se livrant à des jeux et des rituels dans la rue. Leur vitalité éveille des espoirs pour l’avenir, mais également la nostalgie d’une culture enfantine qui tend à disparaître des rues américaines. La présentation sera précédée du spectacle S'envoler présenté par Création Caféine et Montréal Danse ainsi que d'une courte pause. L’entrée pour ces soirées est gratuite. En cas de pluie, la représentation est annulée.
