The Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) will attempt to protect Windows users from viruses, spyware, rootkits and Trojans. It is meant to run in the background, without constantly bombarding users with security alerts or using a lot of system resources.Once installed, the software will automatically update. An Internet connection is required for installation and to update the latest virus and spyware definitions.

Company said it would make the antivirus software available in other countries later this year. The final version of MSE would be launched before end of the year. This software should work with most recent versions of Windows – XP, Vista and 7. It can be freely downloaded directly from Microsoft website.

The new operating system will be generally released on Oct. 22. It will be available on pre-order from U.S. stores such as Best Buy, online retailer Amazon.com and the company’s own website from June 26, 2009.

Company said it would sell the Home Premium upgrade version of Windows 7 for $49.99 from June 26 until July 11 in the United States. The discs would be shipped after general release. After July 11, the pre-order price will be $119.99, 8 percent less than the current $129.99 price tag for the comparable version of Vista, which cost $159.99 at launch in early 2007.

The Professional upgrade version of Windows 7 will be on sale until July 11 at $99.99, then at $199.99 afterwards. The comparable Vista version is the same price.

Microsoft will sell the full Home Premium version of Windows 7 for $199.99, 17 percent less than the comparable Vista version. Full versions of the more advanced Professional and Ultimate editions will be unchanged at $299.99 and $319.99 respectively.

People who buy a new PC with Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate starting from June 27 and before the October 22 release date of new OS, then they will be eligible to receive a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it becomes available on October 22nd. Vista Home Basic is not eligible for upgrade.

Microsoft has also stated to take pre-orders for Windows 7 as of the 26th of June and will offer Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for USD $49 and Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for USD $99. These prices are roughly half the suggested retail price.

The pre-order sale will start on June 27 in the U.S., Canada and Japan and next month in the UK, France, and Germany. Microsoft expects to sell out within 2 weeks at the promotional prices.

The Rs 1,600 crore, 5.6 km Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL), which will connect the suburban Bandra with Worli on the south here, is ready and will be open to the public by the end of June, a Maharashtra State Roadways Development Corporation (MSRDC) Minister Vimal Mundada said Sunday.

The Bandra-Worli Sea-Link is an 8-lane, twin carriageway cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete viaduct approaches, which will link Bandra with Worli in mumbai. HCC is building the bridge, commissioned by Maharashtra State Roadways Developemnt Corporation (MSRDC) and the Maharashtra Government.

The eight-lane bridge will reduce the travel time between Bandra and Worli from 60-90 minutes to six to eight minutes. This will save around Rs 100 crore a year in vehicle operating cost alone.

Initially the MSRDC plans to impose a 50-km per hour speed limit to enable motorists to get used to the bridge and prevent accidents. Two lanes are proposed to be reserved exclusively for buses and heavy vehicles.

The Bandra-Worli sea link weighs equivalent to that of 50,000 African elephants and steel wire used is equivalent to the circumference of the earth. The 5.6 kilometer-long cable stayed bridge is 63 times the height of Qutub Minar and has consumed 90,000 tonnes of cement, which would suffice to make five buildings of 10-storey each, a Mumbai State Roadways Development Corporation official said.

A treat to the eyes, the cost of illumination of the bridge would be Rs nine crore and the height of the cable-stayed tower is equal to a 43-storey building. MSRDC has plans to provide a viewers gallery at the top of the towers which would offer a bird’s eye glimpse of the entire city.
