[News]: Special Promo: Warvember

"The president of the United States is dead. He was murdered in the morning sunlight by a four-year-old boy…"
Welcome to J.C. Hutchins' Sci-Fi thriller 7th Son: Descent, a novel set in the present day featuring human cloning, dangerous technologies, and "beyond Top Secret" government conspiracies. I'm letting everyone know about an exciting publication that started as an online podcast, and now is being sold in stores everywhere. And whats more amazing than a fellow internet creator bringing his works from the free digital format to the printed page, is that he's still publishing everything for free online. If you want to check this out, listen to the book for free, read it for free, or even buy the book, check out his site over here: JCHutchins.net You could even join the ranks of his online army by participating in Warvember just like I am.
[Post a comment!]

[News]: SF Spotlight: The War of Winds

Last up in this series of plugs is The War of Winds by KEZ. In her words, it's "an epic fantasy/sci-fi story that spans in total, about 3000 years." So if you like the story, you definitely won't be disappointed with it for being too short! In all seriousness, Kez is somebody who takes her work as a webcomic author very, very seriously, and the quality of her art and writing certainly reflect that. She's also involved in numerous side-projects, links to which can be found everywhere on the War of Winds site, so the odds that you'll find something really interesting there are pretty high.

Well this marks the end of the SpiderForest cross-promotional project! Hope someone out there benefited from my participation, whether a fellow comic creator who gained a couple of new readers or a visitor who found a great new series to follow. We might do something like this again in a few months, since new comics will joining the collective in December. Till then, keep on reading!
[Post a comment!]

[News]: SF Spotlight: School Spirit

There's no other comic out there quite like School Spirit by Daniel VanderWerff. Not only is it an Australian webcomic (ooh, exotic!), but it also has some of the most unique character designs I've ever seen... believe me, nothing else looks like this comic. The big-eared, vaguely mouse-like cast of schoolchildren is well balanced and endlessly amusing, as are their frequent encounters with the eponymous "spirits." Did I mention that this comic is Australian? I did? Well it bears repeating, because it really is an important point; the story is packed with references to its down-under setting, and while reading through it you'll get the additional benefit of learning an astonishing amount about the land of dingos and cricket. It's one comic that'll definitely stay in your mind.
[Post a comment!]

[News]: My first interview!!!

Hey all, I've just had my first interview about The Artiste Manquée published on The Xcentrikz's website! You can read it right here. That site is pretty cool, it regularly hosts interviews with webcomic creators and you can check out some of their past interviews here. I'm in some pretty famous company!

So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and read my interview at http://www.camelliasoftware.com/xcentrikz/newsartistemanquee.htm! It was a lot of fun for me to do and I hope you enjoy it and learn something interesting.
[Post a comment!]

[News]: SF Spotlight: Fuzznuts

Indeed, I skipped last week's spotlight because I was busy, so now I owe the author of Chirault a favor (well, maybe half a favor, now that I've mentioned and posted a link to it here, muwahaha!) But never mind, because this week's comic is Fuzznuts by Chris Wall and Zack Granstaff. The authors' description of their comic is remarkably simple: it's about two squirrels trying to retrieve a bird feeder. At first blush this may cause you to think there isn't much to this story, as I did, but you would be wrong, as I was. In reality the storyline of Fuzznuts has a great deal of variety and creative twists that you'd never expect given that simple description, like the current story arc in which the two heroes are beamed into space by a cereal box prize. As far as Spiderforest comics go, this one's definitely on the "cute and/or funny" end of the spectrum (opposite from all the very serious graphic-novel style fantasy stuff), so definitely give it a read especially if that's your thing. It's not all cute and fuzzy though... there is quite a lot of swearing, so be forewarned kiddies.
[Post a comment!]

[News]: SF Spotlight: Precocious

What can I say about Precocious by Christopher J. Paulsen? Well it's an adorable and very humorous daily strip, starring a group of bestial schoolchildren who are perfectly described by the comic's title. The frequent updates make the story easy to follow for the impatient among us, and the site has a lot of cool extras, including the author's sketch blog. The black-and-white line art really makes me feel like I'm reading a newspaper, and the more I think about it, the more I realize what a smart idea not coloring is when you want a high volume of strip output. Too bad I've got such a love affair with that damn light spectrum. In conclusion, go read Precocious every day, and my comic can be your extra weekend treat.
[Post a comment!]
