Bad drawing is a good chair.

What’s enchanting about the craft of caricature drawing is, we believe, the exaggeration of distinctive features. Most people like their caricature drawing only when it is drawn one step prettier than they usually are. And that is the inspiration for this project, “Caricature as Furniture Part 1.”

At the beginning, this project is an exploration of minimal illustration that has eventually expanded into pieces of furniture. We believe that objects possess power of communication; therefore, we decide to take a tongue-in-cheek look at investigating Pop and Hollywood Culture in tangible forms, in hoping that it would make the line that separates Graphic from Furniture become thinner.

Grace Jones is one of our biggest muse of all time, especially for this project. We adore her cubical appearance, (if there’s such term), and believe that characteristics can be portrayed through objects as well. We decided to hijack mainstream cultures and pop icons such as well known singers, models, cartoon and movie characters and used them as a tool for communicating. This project has turned into a playground of minimal lines, quirky forms and glitzy materials.

The result is, just like caricature drawing, a collection of chairs that is graphically sarcastic, animated in its details, and meticulously unique in the craft of upholstery.

Shaped and inspired by conifer pine trees, the stools aim to not just mirror their models, but also reveal an array of different uses and personalities.

 
The intention when designing this collection was to create pieces that would invite people to gather.

They come in pairs and in 3 different sizes. You can flip them, stack them, combine them or leave them alone. You can move them around and you can sit on them. Remove the cushion and reveal the metallic surface of the hidden table.

Origen del proyecto
Gallinas & Focas es un vino con un alto contenido humano fruto de la colaboración de amadip esment y 4kilos Vinícola. Amadip.esment es una organización para que personas con discapacidad intelectual y sus familias disfruten y mejoren su calidad de vida y dispongan de las mismas oportunidades que todos los ciudadanos. Los miembros de amadip.esment participan activamente en todo el proceso de creación del vino siendo los principales protagonistas de este proyecto.
En agosto de 2006 nace el proyecto “4Kilos Vinícola” –en Mallorca– de la mano de Francesc Grimalt y Sergio Caballero. Francesc Grimalt es enólogo y antiguo socio y director técnico de la Bodega Ànima Negra en Mallorca y es conocido por haber recuperado la variedad autóctona callet en el panorama vinícola Balear. Sergio Caballero es músico, socio fundador y codirector del festival de música avanzada y arte multimedia SÓNAR, del que es responsable de su imagen.
El nombre de “4Kilos” proviene de la inversión inicial en pesetas de sus dos socios (es decir, 4 millones de pesetas). De esta manera querían demostrar que la elaboración de un buen vino no depende de un gran esfuerzo económico, sino de una ambición por la calidad y una pasión por el producto.

Origen del Nombre
Gallinas & Focas es el resultado de una tormenta de ideas (brainstrorming) realizada por miembros de amadip.esment para dar nombre al vino. Cuando se les preguntó porqué habían escogido dicho nombre su respuesta fue clara: las gallinas son divertidas y las focas aplauden. Al mismo tiempo se les pidió que realizaran dibujos de gallinas y focas que posteriormente servirian para ilustrar la etiqueta del vino.
